For Atrial Fibrillation "Had a freak 1-time afib event. 54-year-old Male. No history of heart issues in the family. Rushed to ER with a heart rate of 152. Felt weak, sweaty, generally terrible. At the ER, the heart went back into rhythm, was given Xarelto 1 per day 30mg for precaution. Saw a doctor 6 days later. Felt horrible for every day on this drug. Pain, dizzy.. felt like I was being poisoned. Got worse every day. If I didn't get off this poison, I would have lost my job, as I could not function! The doctor at the cardio clinic took me off this drug immediately after the stress test came back perfect, and all blood work perfect. Been off this now for 6 days and almost free of side effects. Still some episodes of anxiety, tiredness, and dizziness. Started feeling better the next day after stopping. Stay away from this drug at all costs.. I'm wondering if I will ever feel normal again.. I was only on it for a week and wow.. unbelievable."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Please do not take this drug, my husband died on this. He had been on Warfarin for 7 years with no problems. Cardiologist swapped him to Xarelto, within 5 months he was coughing up blood, having dizzy spells, aneurysms, lung problems, I could go on. He was convinced it was this drug and the more I read about it, the more I have to agree. He died in June."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I was put on Xarelto after a small P.E. in the lower lobe of my right lung and have not felt right since. I am tired all the time, have no energy, migraines, dizzy, and also increased anxiety. The reason I decided to take Xarelto over the other blood thinners was because of not having to go to the doctor monthly, which I believe is the only good thing about this medication. Can't wait to go off of it in a month. I'm so thankful to read the comments and see I am not the only one suffering these side effects."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I have been on Xarelto for 7 months. I had bleeding in both eyes the first month, bleeding from hemorrhoids after that, and still do. My joints and muscles hurt so bad, and it's actually hard to walk at times. I have swollen legs, feet, and hands. I do know I am overweight and 71 years old, but my blood pressure is controlled on meds. I do have afib, but I want off this terrible medication. The doctor told me they are all the same and I need to stay on it. Coumadin made me terribly sick, dizzy, and tired. I am ready to give up and just take natural thinners."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Never had a PE, but I became sedentary, sitting for hours working on my laptop. I also stopped drinking lots of water. The only reason the hospital found for my saddle PE was long hours of sitting & reduced water intake. Water keeps blood flowing; so does exercise. I passed out & woke up with sweating, nausea, couldn't breathe; then my heart went into a-fib. The ER did a CT scan & found a 6-inch clot! Took Xarelto 15 mg. twice daily, then 20 mg. once daily. My awesome hematologist ordered a battery of 19 separate blood tests after I'd been on Xa for 6 months. With good test results & no further clots, dosage reduced to 10 mg. once daily. Side effects: hair loss (I had thick, long hair; over 60% now gone), bizarre dreams, muscle twinges, headaches, dizziness, increased skin/nerve sensitivity & bruising, tiredness, extreme weight gain. I barely eat 2 meals daily, but gained 40 lbs. since taking Xarelto! I hope to be weaned from this drug, but I know God & Xarelto saved my life!"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Had DVT in my calf, had a couple of clots get stuck in my lung 2 weeks after starting Xarelto. Now, after 2 1/2 months on it, I get headaches, dizzy, lightheadedness, weakness in legs and arms, and tingling in arms and hands. I had to leave work today because I was so weak. Going to have doc take me off it."

For Pulmonary Embolism "When I became ill over a year ago and developed blood clots in my lungs (P.E.), my doctor put me on XARELTO 20 MG. I have not developed any more blood clots, Xarelto took care of the blood clots. Occasionally, I do get some side effects: dizziness, shortness of breath, and aches, and a little bit of pain in my legs. I can overlook these, considering that Xarelto takes care of the blood clots in my lungs, so I'm still here, living a normal life, doing the things that I enjoy. All medications have side effects."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I was treated at a local hospital for minor chest pains. The chest X-ray and EKG came back normal. Advised docs that the pain was mountains pass 10; however, I was subsequently prescribed a narcotic, which I refused. Two days later, the pain returned, so I visited the local VA hospital. A subsequent CT scan determined a PE in my right lung. Docs prescribed me 20 mg Xarelto for 90 days. They later extended my medication due to a heterozygous mutation because they wanted to do further research. I’ve exhibited symptoms of dizziness (initially), minor leg pain, and fatigue. Anxiety increased over time because neither of them were excruciating, and I never had any shortness of breath. After telling the doc of my initial symptoms, which I no longer have with the exception of the minor leg pain, he assumed that it was in my imagination. Three months later, I broke out in hives. I was upset at the fact that they basically refused to discuss the side effects."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Perfectly healthy, no blood clots, 'PE,' 'DVT,' ever. Exercise every day. Four weeks after the vaccine developed 'PE,' multiple blood clots in the lungs close to the heart. Put on Xarelto and numerous monitoring and blood tests. I was not told of potential side effects that this drug has, severe kidney issues and liver issues, which all show up in the blood tests, but then they now send you to other doctors. I could never sleep, horrible dreams. My face broke out in horrible acne that I had never seen, I was dizzy and never felt right at all. After 8 months, with clean blood tests ever since I got them. I wanted off of them. Oh, no, I was chastised like a small child and told I have to be monitored and take these pills for a long time, and now we want you to see other doctors for the above issues that I never previously had. I weaned myself off of them, don't recommend them for everybody. I was scared to do it. My acne went away. I sleep better, my balance is better, and my anxiety after doing this is better."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Have been on Xarelto now for 2 months without any complaints. I've not had the out of the ordinary dreams that others have reported. I am an endurance athlete, and other than deconditioning from a forced no-exercise restriction for 4 weeks, I cannot say that this medicine limits my performance. I must say I have had some very short-duration dizzy spells on occasion, but definitely not the norm. My insurance required that Xarelto be preauthorized prior to getting it. So far, I am very happy with its performance and convenience."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I have been on it for 2 years and have started having irregular heartbeats, sore joints, dizziness, tiredness, to the point that I don't even want to get out of my chair, and a lot of other side effects. I am working to get off this drug, I don't like what it is doing to me."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I had been taking warfarin for many years for antiphospholipid syndrome and been pestering my Dr. if I could switch to Xarelto instead, as I'd had enough of the constant INR tests. Finally, my haematologist agreed. (The drug is not normally prescribed for my condition.) I was given 20 mg to be taken once daily with breakfast. The first two weeks passed with no problems, but on the third week, I had a really bad dizzy spell and almost fainted. Fortunately, I managed to sit down before I did faint. I spoke to my haematologist, and she suggested that I take it just before going to bed instead of the morning. So far, it's worked. With my condition, migraines are a symptom, and they have gotten slightly worse since taking Xarelto. But I still much prefer it to warfarin & INR tests!"

For Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "Xa inhibitors such as Xarelto are increasingly becoming more commonly prescribed and are very effective in treating antiphospholipid syndrome (an autoimmune disorder that causes 'sticky blood,' resulting in clots) as an alternative to warfarin, particularly in the cases of patients such as myself who had unstable INR results. The side effects have been minimal and possibly can't all necessarily be blamed on Xarelto as I take many other medications, some with similar side effects such as tiredness and headaches. The worst side effect for me is dizziness, but my specialist recommended I take it just before bed instead of in the morning as the dizziness wears off within several hours."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Don't like it. My legs hurt. I'm dizzy. I want to stop taking it. Seeing all the commercials. Doctor says my DVT is a thing of the past, but he keeps me on it till August. Going to get a second opinion."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I have been taking Xarelto for about a year and has landed me in emergency twice. The first time I had heavy bleeding in my stool, urine, and mouth. This past Monday, I had an ambulance pick me up after having a really strange dizzy spell with numbness in my head and immediate heavy bleeding from the mouth. I will not take this medication anymore, I'm sure it will kill me if I continue taking it."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Two DVTs and life situations had my docs place me on Xarelto. I've had all the side effects: migraines nonstop for a month. The lower dose helped, but still vet them every couple of weeks. Hair falling out in clumps, dizziness at the start. Heavy periods, but that ended with a move to an IUD. Still, for the side effects, the lack of blood testing and with my high-stress life, thankful for these meds. But look forward to being off them."

For Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "Developed multiple PEs as a side effect of the oral contraceptive pill - after discharge, I took Innohep with Xarelto for 2 weeks, then Xarelto alone for 6 months. Taking Xarelto instead of warfarin stopped me from becoming even more of a pincushion from needles and prevented frequent hospital visits. I experienced next to no side effects, aside from feeling cold and dizzy occasionally. I was lucky with my government's healthcare as they covered virtually the entire cost, but it would have been very expensive otherwise (about €300 a month)."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I've been taking Xarelto for 5 months for a blood clot in the brain. I've felt a range of side effects including: dizziness/vertigo, headaches, photosensitivity, lesions on my nose, ear, and tongue, sinusitis, nausea, diarrhea, heavy menstrual bleeding, and general aches/fatigue. Basically, any kind of infection I get is much worse than it would be normally. I haven't had any major bleeding events, but my periods have been debilitatingly heavy. As far as effectiveness, it has worked for me, and I have not developed any further clotting, which is the most important thing. Not sure if other blood thinners are as effective and have less severe side effects, but if they are, it probably would have been worth the extra trips to the doc for me."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I really do not like this medication at all. It makes me feel so sick and tired. It gives me panic attacks, especially at night. I get dizzy, foggy, tired, nausea, heartburn, chest pain, back pain, leg pain. I’m supposed to be on this for 6 months, but I don't know how bad this medication will be for me before then. I guess it’s keeping my clots at bay, that’s the only positive about this med so far."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "Put on Xarelto 15 mg twice a day for thrombosis in the left arm. The first week was awful. I was dizzy and lightheaded, especially within an hour of taking the medicine. My doctor did warn me I had to take it with food and at the same times every day. After a week, I am not feeling lightheaded. I do, however, have joint pain, especially in my hands. My joints hurt a lot once I wake up in the morning. Have to take it for another week twice per day then will be put on 20 mg once a day. Give it some time to work."
