Ramelteon "Usually take clonazepam, but was too early for refill, so Dr. prescribed Rozerem, which cost me $57.00 because the deductible wasn’t met. Took at 9:30, it’s now midnight, and just took melatonin liquid and two Advil PMs. Obviously, Rozerem didn’t do squat!"

Ramelteon "I have tried Rozerem off and on for several months, and I found it to be effective at helping me fall and stay asleep. But I'm seeing a pattern of a hangover effect the next day that leaves me feeling very depressed and listless, which is not something that I have had with Ambien or benzos. So I'm probably going to stop taking Rozerem."

Ramelteon "So recently I got prescribed with Rozerem. I've been having trouble falling and staying asleep. I told my psychiatrist that I wanted to try melatonin, and he gave me Rozerem. It's been four days since I've been on it. Two out of four of those nights, I had very vivid dreams and nightmares. On the second day, I had two nightmares in a row. On the fourth day, another nightmare, and I've been up for two hours. It's 5:41 am at the moment. I wanted melatonin so I could sleep at night and lucid dream. I'd rather be active and do whatever I want in my dreams than live in this reality. I sleep when I'm overly stimulated and just overall depressed. I'm happy that my dreams are very vivid, but when I'm having a nightmare, I like to be aware so that I can either change my dream or just wake up. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. Yes, Rozerem works for putting me to sleep, but if you don't want to potentially have nightmares, I don't recommend it."

Ramelteon "I have taken it at least 10 times. It is very expensive. And it worked only 1 out of the 10 doses. I am now trying to avoid caffeine and aspirin, which is very difficult to do, and will see if it works better."

"This is an awful drug. I took it one night. Although I slept on it with only getting up once, the side effects the next day were intolerable. I was so nauseous for days afterward and couldn’t even drink water. It caused a hormonal balance, which caused breakthrough bleeding and crying spells for hours at a time that lasted days. Who can function like that?"

"As a mild sufferer of insomnia (I usually get it every 3-4 years for a few months at a time, and then it goes away), I started taking this to help taper off the low dose Mirtazapine I've been taking for 3 years (doctor's orders to get off that antidepressant). I followed the instructions and tried for 7 to 10 days so Ramelteon could get into my system, as other reviewers mentioned. I had success with it for the first few nights - good sleep. I think that was a placebo effect because, after the first 5 days, sleepless nights came back with a vengeance. Two or three good nights and then two or three sleepless nights. My body was so tired I could barely lift a book to read before going to bed, but my brain was not turning off, and I was tossing and turning all night. I had a rapid heart rate, dry mouth, dizziness, and a migraine-like headache the following day...and still uneven sleep. After taking this for nearly a month, I am stopping it and begging my doctor for another script of Mirtazapine."

Ramelteon "I am a day sleeper and was only sleeping about 3 hours a day and waking several times during that 3 hours when I was just taking Ambien. I have started taking Rozerem in combination with Ambien, and I am now sleeping about 6 hours a day. The first few days I felt very drowsy, but that has gone away, and now I feel wonderful and rested."

Ramelteon "This product does not work very well at all in a low dose. I took it the first night and got some sleep. After that, no effect. I don't wake up in the middle of the night, I just can't go to bed and go to sleep unless I am up most early AM hours."

"I've had insomnia for years. I was taking Trazodone to help me sleep (other sedatives in the past). I wanted to get off of that because of the side effects of long-term use, and I began to try ramelteon. I have taken it for 3 days, and it is horrible so far. I lay awake, and then after about an hour or so, I began to have extreme feelings of sleeplessness, anxiety, and became extremely fidgety. I have heard you have to give this medicine a few days to work. I will try it for 2 weeks because I can only suffer for so long. Wish me luck! I may pair it with some melatonin and see if that helps."

"Big zero for chronic insomnia. Extra wide awake 'til 6:30 a.m., finally passed out for maybe an hour off and on. Note that if you are taking beta blockers, those deplete melatonin and make it more likely this med is a big zero unless also adding melatonin."

Ramelteon "Rozerem has been very effective for my sleep-onset issues, with little side effect. However, some days I feel extremely tired (sleepy) throughout the day at random points. This severity of sleepiness really only seems to occur the day after I have taken Rozerem (I do not take it every night if I can help it)."

Ramelteon "I'm on day 5. For me, it hasn't been as bad as others have had it. It's effective for making me fall asleep, but I still wake up early. I actually dream versus not before, so that's a good sign I'm going into a deeper sleep. The next day, I feel more tired though. A big part of sleep is not just meds, I, like others, rely on them too much. There is so much you can do in addition to sleep meds. Like proper sleep hygiene, no TV or screens at least an hour before bed, stress relief through exercise, maybe yoga, whatever works. It's a lot of personal responsibility that people don't take, including me. I'm trying though."

"I started using Focalin for my ADHD in June of 2023. My insomnia worsened real bad, however, my focus and energy levels were great. I was prescribed ramelteon on November 4th. I've been taking it for just over 2 weeks. It worked the first night and has been working well every night. I feel a little less energetic during the day, but the tradeoff is worth it for me."

"Ideally, I like to try different supplements and medicines to understand the sleep quality. I use a sleep tracker and keep journals of my sleep. Ramelteon for me is hit or miss, it has induced sleep, but it does not keep me asleep longer less than half the time I have it. One night I have a good sleep duration, but the next day I sleep but wake up with weird nightmares and then cannot go back to sleep. So I have stepped away from taking this anymore as for me as an athlete. I am going back to Ashwagandha, which improves SWS and REM in my sleep and controls disruptions, if not makes me fall asleep when I want to. I am going to try CBD isolates as an alternative. Although I don’t take this daily, only when my sleep cycle was varied."

Ramelteon "I have just started on Rozerem and find I still wake up several times a night, however, I sleep hard in between waking up. I slept very light and almost consciously before taking it. So, I am happy with it. Best of all, it is not an addictive drug or narcotic! Thank God for something that helps better than nothing and not addictive."

"I've been having terrible insomnia for weeks and asked my sleep doctor (neurologist) for something to help me. He prescribed this, and I am incredibly disappointed, especially since I had a difficult time getting it approved by my insurance. It literally does nothing for me. I laid in bed for hours as usual and probably didn't actually sleep for more than 30-45 minutes. I took a second pill and actually feel more awake. I don't understand why this is even on the market."

"I tried this for sleep a couple of years ago, and it didn’t work. But then, about six months ago, I gave it another try, and it has been helping with falling asleep and staying asleep. It isn’t super strong, but does seem to make some difference. Better than melatonin."

"This medication made me feel like I was having a full-fledged nervous breakdown. I haven’t seen anyone else post this problem. I had to stop it after a full week of going through immense mental breakdowns. I hope someone has an answer as to why. It’s not listed as a side effect. :("

"My doctor put me on this sleeping pill, yeah, if that's what you want to call it. Put it this way: I never remembered being asleep, but I do know the next morning all I want to do is sleep - I feel like a zombie on drugs, but without sleep. They need to take this mess off the market."

"This medication is great. For a while, I had the hardest time falling asleep and being able to sleep throughout the night while getting a full 8 hours. Now, I can fall asleep within an hour of taking the medication. I sometimes wake up during the night but can fall back asleep within minutes. For me, I do experience hangover effects and have to take a midday nap to sleep the rest of it off. Therefore, I don’t take the full pill; I take little bites out of the pill each night lol. Not taking the full pill could contribute to still waking up in the night, but I can still feel mostly rested anyways."

"Asked doc for something to help with insomnia that was not a psychotropic. Rozerem is useless. Aside from not helping me sleep, it increased my racing thoughts and made me fidget, aka flip and flop for hours."

"Felt it kick in but didn’t fall into a deep sleep. It was twilight sleep with vivid dreams and nightmares. After 2 hours, I woke all the way up and my heart was racing. Even if it takes weeks to see benefits, how do you get past the first night? I’m actually scared to take it again."

"I am taking this pill for the last 2 months, and this is really helpful in getting a sound sleep. The only side effect I have noticed so far is haziness in the morning hours, and at some odd hours of the day."

"Did not work for me at all, in fact, I felt it made the insomnia worse. I was shocked at how expensive this drug was. The first night was horrible. I even called the pharmacy to see if I could return it because my copay was $80.00, so quite expensive for something that didn't work for me. They couldn't take it back, so please check to see if they can give you a couple of day samples from the pharmacy before you buy a 30-day supply. So I gave it 2 more tries, so 3 nights total, and had to revert back to Xanax, which knocks me out because 3 days straight without sleep made me so frustrated and irritable. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Hope it works for other people."

"I was hoping this would be the magic pill for my insomnia, but this is my third night of taking this, and it’s 3 am as I am writing this. I don’t understand why it’s so expensive. It does absolutely nothing for me. I’m glad to see others had positive effects from it, but not me - I don’t know what else to do!"
