"oi! I have been constipated all my life, tried all the otc stuff. I tried trulance before this one, did not help at all. I was very hopeful for motegrity. It worked amazing the first two days, first times I have ever had a complete bowel movement. I had some bad gas and awful pain in my back and sides. I was also quite achy, almost like I was hungover. Unfortunately, when the pain stopped on the third day, so did the bowel movements. on to the next!"

"I have suffered for years with chronic constipation. I have a diagnosis of gastroparesis and achalasia. Was hoping this would be the miracle medication, but instead, it turned out to be a nightmare. After 5 days I still did not have a bowel movement. However, I woke up on day 4 crying which is not normal for me. Day 5 woke up crying and felt life was no longer worth living. Serious depression occurred with this medication. WARNING! If you take this medication make sure you monitor your mental health. After stopping Motegrity I returned to my constipated, but happy life."

"Horrific. I took 1 tablet before bedtime and woke up writhing in pain. Strange loud stomach noises followed by gas of epic proportions which smelled sickly. Pain all day the next day. I’d rather be constipated and that’s saying a lot."

"I started taking Motegrity after failing with many other medications following problems with slow gastric motility, reoccurring SIBO and chronic constipation. At first I was taking every few days because while effective, it caused cramping and stomachaches. I went back to my GI feeling at a loss because I felt like I’ve tried everything and she said, of course it’s going to cause cramping if I haven’t had a BM in a week! She recommended cleaning myself out with Magnesium citrate for a day, then taking Motegrity daily. This has helped! I’ve actually had normal BM’s for the first time in a long time!"

"I took motegrity one day and I barely made it through the day. Started with diarrhea and extreme bloating and stomach pains. Then started getting dizzy and head hurting. By that night I had a pounding headache, could barely stand, running to the bathroom, dizziness-it was awful. I felt so sick I almost went to the ER. Day two and I still have a lingering headache and diarrhea, stomach pains and extreme bloating. Never taking this pill again. I must mention I have also tried Linzess and also experienced extreme bloating and diarrhea but none of these other symptoms."

"At first, this pill was miraculous. Then I started noticing insomnia and the most vivid nightmares/dreams I've ever had. That progressed to an acute change in my mood. I am normally a very calm person and I've been in a rage nonstop for no reason. It never occurred to me that it all started when I started this pill. I'm getting off of it and hope things go back to normal. It's not worth it."

"My quality of life has improved drastically on this drug. I had some side effects in the first week (headache mostly), but those resolved. I've tried other drugs (Linzess, Amitiza, Trulane), and they did not help me. I have a tortuous colon. My insurance company recently stopped covering this drug, but the alternatives do not help me."

"I have some pretty severe constipation issues, along with a tortuous colon and some other digestive issues (removed gallbladder, food allergies, etc). I’ve tried trulance (didn’t work), Linzess (worked at first but not consistently), along with other otc methods such as stool softeners and miralax. It gets bad though, where I have to use an enema to make things move. Since I was still having issues with a complete natural bm, my GI doctor wanted to try motegrity to “give that extra push”. Within an hour of taking this, I was doubled up in the bathroom with the worse case of vomiting/dry heaving and diarrhea- reminds me of when I had severe food poisoning. I was sweating, head felt tingling and spinning. Y’all, I lost 5 pounds. While I appreciate the clean out, I will not be taking another dose of this. Btw… This reaction is surprising to me since it took almost a full day for the colonoscopy cleanse to go into effect."

"Love Motegrity! It took only one day to work for me. I was desperate, severe constipation and even end up in the ED . I felt my current medication had to stop working so my doctor suggested Motegrity. A really miracle medication for me."

"This drug works well - no urgency, feels very ‘normal.’ But gives the most HORRIBLE CRUSHING DEPRESSION. If you have a history of depression use with EXTREME CAUTION as this causes extreme suicidal ideation. You should let a close friend/family member know if you plan to take this drug so they can keep an unbiased eye on you."

"I have suffered with IBS-C for over 40 years, nothing has helped. Last year it got worst, most likely from not moving as much. My stomach was so bloated and hard I was so sluggish to be able to move, even with laxative. I finally was make on insurance and my dr gave me samples of Motegrity. Of course I read the reviews first and was not going to take it, then I though what is there to loose. First day I took it and I felt weird at work and had a headache. Then I came back and read the "good" reviews and they lined up with my issues. I confirmed with my dr that it should be taken on an empty stomach if possible. ( NOTE I also started taking a probiotic which I think helps). Well the heavens have opened in a good way. The bloating is gone and I am going normal, like honestly if I ate better it would be 100%. I am not seeing any side effects that I'm aware of. And this is only $15 on my insurance. Try this, get samples first."

"I'm so glad I read the reviews and suggestions for Motegrity. I took my first dose in the morning and had such bad side effects, I was ready to just stop taking. Major headache, nausea, and agitation. I saw that starting at half dose and taking it in the evening was beneficial. After a week of half dose in the evening, I started with the full pill. My bad side effects were gone, and I had regular BMs without the diarrhea I had with Linzess. So glad I hung in there! I now have none of the side effects and only the benefits. I hope this continues to work as everything else has been a disappointment."

"I had a free trial (7pills) from my GI doctor. I'd never afford this because it's $300 without insurance a month. I took a quarter of a pill for several days of constipation and stomach burning. Within 30min I had diarrhea with solids. I haven't had loose stools in over a year and I was actually pleased not to give birth for once. I didn't have worse cramps than I was already having, and I didn't get a headache like others warned. I only weigh 120lb and I saw others say they had better success with smaller doses. I can say this medicine works way better than OTC stool softeners I've used if you need an immediate BM."

"I took just a 1/2 yesterday morning. Got a crazy pounding headache within 10 minutes, then was constantly going to the bathroom. Nauseated and pounding heart. I have Postural tachycardia syndrome and was flaring with adrenaline surges after taking this 1/2 once. It said it lasts 24 hours. Nope, it’s been 36 hours and I’m still feeling sick to my stomach and nauseated. I could just sip my water. I am trying to push Gatorade as I’m dehydrated. I’ve been massaging my stomach as it’s in pain and gurgling still! I guess I’ll stick to miralax in my water and stool softeners. This is not for me!"

"I’m looking for personal experiences…does taking this medication day 1 hour before first meal of the day work better than taking motegrity with food??? I’ve been taking on empty stomach in am. The good response for me is no belly ache all night long."

"I have chronic constipation and it's absolutely a life of misery. My doctor prescribed Motegrity and it works. HOWEVER, the horrific cramps and headache I could do without. The warning sign that I need to stay put close to a bathroom are the camps and nausea. The headache starts about 30 minutes after taking it. When you live with idiopathic chronic constipation as severely as I do then you kind of have to go with what works. Nevertheless I could definitely live without the side effects."

"My previous GI put me on this 3 yrs ago and it was very effective - so effective that I had to start out at a lower dose by cutting it in half. After a while, it seems like it was the worst depression that I had at the time. So I started taking it at night which reduced that side effect but it started to seem a little less effective, maybe coincidental. Eventually, I moved it back to daytime to see if it would be more effective and my mood was fine with it - it didn't seem to have any effect on my mood anymore, fortunately, but within a year it seemed like it stopped working. Just from personal experience, I suggest that anyone that feels this works really well but is finding mood problems with it to try to treat their depression more effectively in other ways to see if they can tolerate this med. As I said, eventually it stopped working. I feel for everyone on here. This is a very uncomfortable and frustrating condition. Hoping all of you find your solution."

"I don't really suffer from constipation, but I have trouble emptying my bowels completely. Dr. prescribed Motegrity. I took it 3 days in row. I didn't have the headache, vomiting or other severe side effects described by other people, but I'm not going to continue taking it. I'm glad I was home the whole time. There was no warning about when it would kick it and all of a sudden I had to rush into the bathroom. I didn't have a normal bowel movement. It gave me diarrhea, to the extent that I was just passing liquid at the end that I could not eliminate completely. So it seems that this medication is effective for some, but not everyone."

"I have been on the following drugs; Xelnorm, Amitiza n Linzess which never helped. In 2018 I was diagnosed with connective disease r/o sjogrens and lupus. Yet I was unable to have a BM at 3 weeks! I was always uncomfortable and felt sluggish. In September 2019 I was given Motegrity by a new Gastrointerlogist. This drug saved my life…after having 3 bowel blockages! This year, after now a year I was getting Motegrity for $15.00 a 30 day supply. I am a USArmy veteran and the VA will not pay for this drug because it is only in brand. This year my civilian insurance drop the medication and I am now stuck paying $759.00 per month! After begging n pleading with our pharmacist he gave it to me for $450.00! I do receive a very pension but need this medication apparently for the rest of my life in order to do something everyone else does on their own. I can not use the $15.00 savings card anymore because the test is billed to my insurance which will not reimburse the pharmacy. HELP!"

"Motegrity worked as soon as I started it. It is the only medication that has ever worked, it changed my life. I can eat regularly. I've stopped taking harsh laxatives. I'm regular and comfortable. Best medicine ever!"

"In 2020 I was hospitalized for an intestinal blockage. At that time they did not want to do surgery because it was a functional issue so the protocol was NPO for several days. After I left the hospital they put me on the Motegrity 2 mg once a day I’ve taken it for two years and I’ve gained over 25 pounds. It does work in the beginning for motility but then after a year it stopped really working I don’t know why bother staying on it for as long as I did it because the only thing that wound up happening is getting a tremendous amount of weight and becoming depressed from it"

"Motegrity does work, but the effect on me is harsh and I have many side effects. I took 2mg about six hours ago. It hit within 15 minutes. Since then I have gone to the bathroom about 15 times. I didn't make it to the toilet a few times. I'm experiencing racing heart, pounding headache, a jittery/shaky feeling, and intense nausea. I'm dizzy and weak and achy. I take many other meds for other conditions and for all I know they've left my body. There's no way I could deal with this every day. Not sure if I'll try it again, definitely not anytime soon."

"I was originally given Motegrity without trying the others because I had been following all the lifestyle advice typically given to start off. I had printouts of my daily meals, water consumption, fiber intake, macros. I was also already on a modified diet to to allergens. (I like data.) And it was clear movement for water like linzess wasn’t gonna do it. The first two months, I had to take it with Miralax, 1000 mg of magnesium, and senna at 8.6mg? It took all four to go. I went every day but it was explosive and miserable. So she reduced it down to 1mg and now things are manageable (every two days ish), but I’m constantly boiling. Y’all I’m not at menopause age yet. I shouldn’t be sweating like this. But I’ve been in undershirts in 50 degree weather and I sweat enough to completely stink in a few hours. I also regained all the sudden weight I lost prior to Motegrity in about two months (50 lbs, about 1/4 of my body). Im also queasy all the time."
