For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given Compazine for the first time in the ER. It was mixed in a cocktail for my headache. After 3 minutes, I started feeling uneasy, and I started to have a full panic attack. I’ve never felt that in my life! I ripped my IV out of my arm and started kicking the walls and stomping, they thought I was insane! I told them it was the medicine, they didn’t do anything, just released me, and I felt like my skin was crawling for 3 days. Was the absolute worst experience of my whole life!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "It has been a little over six months since I was given Compazine through my IV when I had a migraine, and I am still not right. It’s important to note that prior to the injection, I have never had any problems with mental health besides intermittent anxiety (mild). I went to the ER for a severe migraine that had been lasting a few days. I was given Compazine through my IV for the pain. I immediately had the worst panic attack of my life. I can’t even compare it to other panic attacks I’ve had because it was profoundly horrific. Wanting to escape, suicidal thoughts, terror, wanting to rip the IV out of my arm, and extreme restlessness. I have had debilitating anxiety ever since. After reading many of the reviews, I see most people feel better after a few days, but that hasn’t been the case for me. I have now been struggling with never feeling at peace or comfort. I can no longer feel love, happiness, joy, or even experience laughter. I walked out of that hospital a different person. Please avoid."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for stomach pains and nausea. I am allergic to so many pain medicines that there is little I can take. They gave me Compazine, and as they put it in my IV, they told me it could cause severe anxiety in some people. Well, I can tell you now, it was horrific. I have had one major panic attack in my life, and this was 20 times worse. I started pulling off my clothes and ripped the IV out. They had to give me a big dose of Benadryl to 'reverse' the effects. Please, please think twice and consider other choices before taking this!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "Took this for a migraine cycle, and while it helped with the migraine. When the nurse gave it to me, it made my heart race, and it made me have the worst panic attack. I couldn’t stay still because my legs were restless, and I was extremely hot and loopy. I won’t take this again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER when I was experiencing headaches and vomiting due to a new medication I was put on. The doctors gave me Compazine, Toradol, and Benadryl through my IV. After a few minutes, I experienced the worst feelings of my life. I was thrown into a huge panic attack, I couldn't sit still, my heart rate rose to over 130. I had to stay in the hospital for 5 extra hours just to get my heart rate to return to normal. It took 24+ hours for the initial panic feeling to go away, and now going on 48 hours, my head still feels all foggy and I get dizzy when I stand up for long periods of time. I hope I return to normal soon, and I would not recommend this medication to anyone!!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I feel for all of you very much. All of those bad experiences, I also had. Plus, doctors and nurses don't seem to care, at least most don't. About 13 years ago, I went to the ER for nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. I didn't feel well when I went in. As soon as they put Compazine in my IV, I felt terrible panic, restlessness, anxiety. I could not sit, lay down, or stay in one place for more than 5 minutes. I pulled my IV out and started running to my friend. I thought maybe I had a stroke. I didn't know. My friend tried to talk to the doctors. I was outside, I couldn't do anything to feel any better. I waited to die. I was afraid I would hurt someone. I was one of the top weightlifters in the world. I started banging my head as hard as I could on the concrete wall. Then I went back in the hospital bleeding. I thought then the doctors would do something to help me. They called the police, my friend got me home. I was worse. I took some Xanax. I still have anxiety from that experience."

For Anxiety "I remember thinking I wanted my migraines back because of how this med made me feel. I still feel horrible and jittery and panicky. When they gave it to me, I wanted to run, and I couldn’t sit still, and I was freaking out. I do not recommend this at all, ever."

"I went in to the ER with a headache and numbness in my face, arms, and legs. I was immediately given Benadryl and Compazine. I started to feel very restless. I couldn't stop moving. My heart rate increased, and I felt like I was checking out of reality. All I could feel was sheer panic. I wanted to run around, scream, all I could do was beg everyone to help me. Because of this, I'm afraid to take medicine, and I'm afraid to go back to the ER. I was amazed to see others had similar reactions when I was made to feel crazy during my visit to the ER. I think the people administering these medications should be aware of the side effects and have something readily available to stop the effects or be able to sedate a patient and keep them to prevent them from feeling those effects. I was not in my right mind to choose to go home and feel that I scared my family when I did choose to go home because of how irrational I was feeling/acting."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this drug in the ER for nausea and a bad headache. The nurse gave me this drug but said it was a Benadryl 'cocktail.' Immediately when I felt it pushed through the IV, my skin began to burn, and I started to have a choking sensation. Honest to goodness, I felt like I was going to die. I started to have the worst panic attack of my life. The heart monitor I was hooked up to started beeping like crazy, and my blood pressure shot through the roof. I was so scared because I drove myself to the ER. I felt like I was losing my freaking mind on this drug. The only thing the doctor on call said to me was, 'Well, I guess you are allergic to Compazine.' I was like, YOU THINK!! The next day, they let me drive myself home.... To this day, I have no memory of how I made it home, but I'm so thankful I made it safely. Word of caution, please be careful if you are ever given this drug. I feel like I have PTSD from that terrible night in the ER because of it. It's a HORRIBLE drug."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given this at the ER about 4 months ago for gallbladder-related nausea, had the worst panic attack I have ever experienced, tried to rip the IV out of my arm and run out of the hospital, have had many extreme panic attacks since. I have had panic attacks before but never within 6 months of each other. I get them at least 10 times a month now. Wish I had never taken this medication."

For Anxiety "Please do not take this medication. I went to the ER for a week-long migraine. They gave me this along with something else. I can’t take Benadryl, so I refused that. Minutes after it was put in my IV, my heart was in the 140s for hours (I already suffer from anxiety and panic attacks and was already nervous). Mind you, I’m on metoprolol as well, which lowers your heart rate, and even that didn’t bring it down. I was restless to the point of insanity, scared, anxious, and alone, and had a panic attack. I had to call the nurse who sat with me while I was having a full-blown panic attack. He was great, thankfully. After discharge, the panic, fear, and restlessness lasted hours. I couldn’t be alone because I was so scared. I am also sensitive to medication and refuse a lot of stuff due to a bad prior experience with something. This is why I do not trust anything anymore. This drug was horrible, and I recommend you DO NOT take this drug ever."

I felt like I was literally going to die, and now, thanks to this medication, I suffer from PTSD because it was so traumatic. I have constant panic attacks. Compazine has ruined my life."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Normally I am given Nubaine. However, this time a younger ER doctor was hopping on the 'no opioid' bandwagon. Everything seemed fine, then all of a sudden I wanted to rip out the IV. Benadryl made it better, but I now seem to be prone to panic attacks in closed rooms. I never had this before. Are opioids worse than this? No!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "Refuse this medication. Went in with the worst headache of my life, confusion, and a heavy, wave-like sensation in my body. Was given Compazine and Benadryl through IV, was told I’d have anxiety. I have generalized anxiety disorder and pharmacophobia, so that in itself was irresponsible, I think. Instant panic attack, feeling of being on the edge of blacking out, constant, horrible anxiety, the wave-like sensation, mood changes, and akathisia for the past month since being treated with this medication once."

For Anxiety "I went to the ER yesterday for a migraine. Was given Compazine. It gave me the worst panic attack of my life. I couldn’t stop moving. I felt like I needed to tear the skin off my body. I was screaming. I wanted to rip out my IV and blood pressure cuff. Struggling to maintain control of my body/thoughts, I lied and told them the headache was gone and to discharge me immediately or I would leave on my own. Told the nurse I wasn’t okay. She said, “The Compazine does that sometimes, but it will pass.” It didn’t pass. It hasn’t passed. I have never felt so uncomfortable. Today, I feel like my skin is crawling. I can’t sit still, can’t sleep, or lay down. I can’t focus, and every part of my body just feels off. I’ve been desperately calling any medical professional I can think of to get help/relief. I refuse to go back to the ER. I would take a severe migraine any day over how I’m feeling right now. I already suffer from depression and anxiety, and this has thrown me into a tailspin."

"I went to the ER with a spinal headache after a lumbar puncture. This medication was given with Benadryl, and it made me flip out. As the nurse gave me Compazine, I felt my ability to speak leave my body, and I couldn’t keep my mind on track. At first, it was great and really knocked the headache back. Then, the crazies started. I was tossing and turning, I couldn’t get comfortable. I felt like I wanted to run naked down the halls screaming. I started to panic and ended up sending my mom to get the doctor. It was this fear of panic and dread, all I could think was how long it would last. Initially, I refused any more medications because I was so scared. They ended up adding Cogentin after talking me down, which knocked me out because I was so upset. Not a great experience."

For Psychosis "I was given Compazine with Toradol in the ER for migraine. Within minutes, I was very fidgety, I couldn’t sit still. I started to feel sheer panic, it was an awful experience. They told me it was common. I got home, felt like I was crawling out of my skin, couldn’t go to sleep, couldn’t sit still, and was convulsing. My heart rate went sky high and my blood pressure, and I generally have low blood pressure. I started crying and couldn’t hardly use my hands and arms, I could barely even walk across the house. My husband ended up taking me back to the ER, where they gave me a 2 mg shot of Ativan. It should’ve knocked me out since I barely take stuff like that. It just took the edge off enough to come home and go to sleep."

"Got given a migraine cocktail which contained Compazine, for a severe migraine. Immediate panic attack and the lasting effects have been heart palpitations and extreme difficulty sleeping. Doctors had to give me a sedative and flush out the Compazine just so I could keep myself from damage due to sleep deprivation, but there's still traces of it in my system days later and my heart is still racing and I feel terribly anxious. I would recommend anyone getting a migraine cocktail to ask for one without Compazine. It could affect you very, very badly."

For Anxiety "I had a severe migraine for 2 days. I was in so much pain I had blurred vision and nausea. Tried to take my prescribed PRN migraine medicine, but I threw up. The ER nurse gave me pain meds and fluids in my IV, as well as steroids. She came back and said the doctor had ordered Benadryl and Compazine for me. I asked what it was, I have always been given Zofran. She stated it would help with the nausea. She added the syringe of Compazine to my 1000 ml bag of saline. But she did not mix it, the bag was already hanging. I do believe I got a much larger amount administered at one time because of how she added it to the hanging bag. Within 5-10 minutes, I was panicking, couldn't sit still, but I was too dizzy to stand. I tried ripping the IV out, crying at my husband that we needed to leave. I couldn't explain why I was upset or answer his questions other than I needed to go/get out. The IV needed out. The nurse came and stopped the IV. Took 30 minutes for the panic, terror, and confusion to pass."

For Anxiety "I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. I was given this drug for a migraine also. It was my first time ever having a panic attack. Now I’m suffering from them on a regular basis, and I believe it is because of this cocktail. It’s extremely hard for me to accept meds at the hospital anymore. I’m too terrified that I’ll have that reaction again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This is not the first time this happened to me, this is just the first time I found out what the drug was called. In the last 10 years, I have been to the ER for a severe headache and was given something in my IV. Every single time, within seconds, I felt panicked. I have explained this to the ER personnel each time, but they gave it to me anyway. This time was the worst! I wanted to pull my skin off, scream, leave everything. I couldn't stay still, and my boyfriend watched in horror as I sobbed. He tried to rub my back as comfort, and I yelled at him to please stop touching me and talking (I felt so bad). I truly think I must be allergic to this medicine. When I begged her to reverse it, she said she couldn't but some more Benadryl, which may dull the effects. It didn't work. Now I am scared to death of any medications. It has been 3 months, and even now, when I think about it, I get panicked. So traumatizing."

For Anxiety "Went to the ER for a headache that wouldn’t go away after a little over a week. Have never had migraines, but apparently that’s what the ER doctors thought I had because they gave me a migraine cocktail consisting of Compazine, diphenhydramine, and methylprednisolone. After getting the Compazine through an IV push, I genuinely thought I was having an allergic reaction. My throat felt tight, and my skin felt hot, and panic set in. But after the Benadryl kicked in, I fell asleep. I woke up with anxiety and realized the “allergic reaction” I had was actually a panic attack. I went for a CT scan afterward, and it was a scary experience being in that tight space with all the residual anxiety I had. The next day, I had insomnia and experienced depersonalization for the first time in years. Very scary, lots of blurred vision and generalized anxiety. Forty-eight hours later, and along with the anxiety, a weird side effect of excessive drooling and saliva. Great, I know. Along with a blank stare."

For Anxiety "About a year ago or so, I went to the hospital for a migraine. I've gone fairly often for migraines. Normally, it's Benadryl, and some fluids (from dehydration), and then I'm good to go. This time they gave me Benadryl and Compazine. Almost immediately, I started panicking. My heart was racing, it was hard to breathe, and I literally thought I was dying. I was in the process of trying to text my loved ones, telling them I loved them. Thanks to COVID, my husband wasn't allowed in, however, my attack had gotten so bad I begged and pleaded for them to let him in with me. The nurse who administered the medicine didn't care that I was freaking out, in fact, all she had said was, 'Well, your headache is gone now, right? Now you have a new problem.' If I could sue the hospital for this and win, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I thought I was dying, and the nurse just shrugged and said, 'Oh well, now you have a new problem.' A year later, and I'm still not normal. Panic attacks are worse and often."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Goodness me, I went for extreme abdominal pain and nausea with vomiting and was given this since Zofran did not work at home prior to my arrival. I was already somewhat concerned as my partner had been given Compazine as part of a migraine cocktail and had the worst panic attack of their life. They administered it to them right into the arm; however, mine was being put through the IV saline bag as a slow drip, so I wasn't that worried; I figured it would infuse slow enough it wouldn't bother me. Boy, was I wrong. About 5-10 minutes later, I was so warm and overheated, my hands went numb as I began to panic for what seemed like no reason. I was full-on shaking and hyperventilating, as well as feeling trapped and somehow more nauseated than before. The initial panic lasted maybe 15 minutes, but I felt on edge for the rest of the day and like I was still fighting off a panic attack."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I'm having the same experience as all the other reviewers. I was in the hospital for COVID and had a headache and vomiting. It took care of those things but gave me a panic attack and high blood pressure. The doctor told me to take Benadryl when I got home, after 75 mg, it has helped but still hasn't totally countered the effects. I've had Compazine before, but it wasn't a generic brand. Anyway, I won't be taking this anymore."
