"Got prescribed this with an antibiotic for sinusitis. Felt better the first day, but as I continued the meds, I noticed severe anxiety, moodiness, and sweating. My brother also says I've been talking excessively, so the racing mind is probably a side effect. I have 5 more days to go with the prednisone. The prescription was for 10 days."

"I've taken this twice now, the first time for severe hives and the second time for a sinus infection. Both times in high doses (60 mg)/day, tapering down after several days. It is effective and quickly, however, I hate the side effects. I would not recommend taking it at night as it gives me tons of energy and keeps me awake. I tend to get hot flashes or steep changes in temperature and VERY irritable. When you are in so much discomfort, you'll take anything to make it go away. I guess the pros benefit the cons, although I'm not fond of this medication overall."

"I was on prednisone for about a week, taking 20 mg twice a day, and was fine while on it, but once I got off, I started getting all the symptoms. It has now been about 2 weeks, and some symptoms are going away, but others are not. My dose wasn’t tapered off, along with me missing a dose. Is that why the side effects are still hanging around? Also, did anyone experience extra saliva? I haven’t seen many say they have and was just curious. Please help me."

"I am taking 20 mg twice a day for sinusitis that I've had for over two months. I am on day 3 of a 5-day course. The side effects are very bad, but my condition has improved. Last night, I actually slept, first time in 2 months. I'll be glad when the last pred. pill is gone, having trouble driving because of dizziness."

"In 2017, I had a virus, and it attacked my sinus, right side deviated septum. The pain was a 10, in the right eyebrow area, and the only thing that worked was prednisone 20 mg given by my PA, Advil, and Tylenol too. All was great up to July 2019, again a virus, same problem. This time, my PA was on vacation. I told the doctor what had worked in 2017 and gave her the exact prescription paper, and she said she ordered the same for me. Well, I trusted her and never checked the dose, I just looked at the instructions on how to take it. By the 4th day, I had a little relief, but I realized that in 2017, by the second day, I had relief. Sure enough, I looked, and she had ordered 1/2 mg of the 2017 dose! After 4 days of taking all the meds, it came back bad, like the first time. I did use Benadryl sinus and headache med, 1/2 tablet, and it did help some. I went to see the sinus doctor, and they agreed that the dose was too small and not long enough. They gave it to me the same as in 2017, and by the second day, I had lots of relief, so we will see if, at the end, it does work and does not come back like in 2019."

"I have been a long-time sufferer of allergies since childhood and was diagnosed with chronic obstructive polyps as an adult. My allergy specialist recommended taking prednisone because I am at extreme risk for sinus surgery. I took this medication in hopes that I could be able to breathe again through my nose, but alas, to my dismay, the medication had no effect whatsoever on shrinking my polyps in both nasal cavities, and my nasal passages remain inflamed. The first round of doses of prednisone I took for one week straight at 20 mg and tapered off, and the second round started at 60 mg per week, tapered down to 20 mg for the fifth week. Still no change, no shrinkage of nasal polyps, and inflammation remains so bad that I am unable to get any sleep. When I am forced to mouth breathe to sleep, I stop breathing altogether and wake up. I'm tired, frustrated, and anxious because I'm unable to breathe through my nose."

"Update: side effects of prednisone were weight gain (temporarily), anxiety, insomnia, difficulty concentrating. These issues began to clear days after the end of treatment. My initial post was 10/10 on December 30th. The latter side effects are difficult and interrupt daily life the most, depending on your daily routine and work responsibilities. Exercise was extremely easy, and my lungs felt great, so I was able to run and continue weightlifting during the entire treatment. See December 30th for full treatment dosage. From 10/10 to 7/10, good for short-term use (x<14)."

"I was given this medication by my allergist for a sinus infection that was causing so much sinus pressure that it made me have a sinus headache every day. I took some cold medicine, but it only reduced the sinus pressure and pain. After 2 hours of taking my first four pills of prednisone, I noticed the sinus pressure was almost completely gone. It is now the next day, and I have no more sinus pressure, and I can breathe again."

"Over 3 weeks, I had a sinus infection. Determined to let it take its course, I almost got through it until this last leg of the heavy mucus stage, which was like glue. I couldn't talk or cough it up or clear it from the back of my throat all the way to my chest. Hot showers on my head, nasal cleansing, nose sprays, nothing worked. I saw my doctor yesterday, and he told me he would prescribe me prednisone to relieve the inflammation that was in my head to my chest. It was for one dose and prescribed a nose spray. I took the two pills with food last night, and in a very short time, I could feel the tightness in my sinuses that was giving me the headache throughout the three weeks disappear. When I woke this morning, I did not have the heavy congestion and tightness in my head, throat, and chest. I can blow my nose and release the mucus built up from overnight now. What a relief the prednisone gave, is all I can say."

"The problem was post-nasal drainage along with all the sinus pressures. My taste changed to the point if I even smelled meat cooking, it would gag me. Eating it was even worse. It turns out my sinuses were completely blocked, just full of infection. So it was surgery for me, but pre-surgery he had me take the 60 - 10 mg prednisone taper (6 days). Day 2, my smell returned, I was overjoyed. A day later, I could eat again, even more joy. I'm off of it now, but the same drainage has returned and I can't eat meat. Today I started on a 60 - 10 taper of pred. It's been 4 hours, and I already can tell the difference. I'm within a month of Medicare (which makes it pretty much free), so I'll go back to the ENT. Hopefully I won't need another surgery and just occasional pred. No real side effects... except, oh wait, my wife said when I was on 60 mg, I needed a sign around my neck stating 'approach at your own risk, high prednisone at work.' I guess I was a little testy, but I couldn't tell."

"Doctor gave this as an antibiotic for a sinus infection, 20 mg once a day for 10 days. First couple of days of taking it, started having severe dissociation and racing thoughts, anxiety went up to an all-time high. (I've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder/anxiety since I was 6.) Started to develop depression so bad that I couldn't think or even go to work, suffered from intense panic attacks, all the while not realizing what was causing me all these problems. I thought I was going mentally insane until on the 6th day of taking this hell drug, I then googled searched the side effects and realized what had been causing my horrible mental breakdown. Immediately stopped taking it, and after two days (and two charcoal detoxes), I feel somewhat normal."

"I was prescribed prednisone for sinus infection and ear blockage. My wife told me I didn't need a steroid. I was prescribed this by an urgent care 'doctor.' I was given a 14-day antibiotic and the steroid. While taking the steroid for 12 days, I gained 6 lbs, had severe insomnia every night, diarrhea 2 or 3 times a day, no energy at all. I was extremely irritable and very difficult to be around. I should've listened to my wife and requested what works for me, Z-Pak, and went on my way. No more doc in a box for me and no more prednisone."

"By taking too many prednisone steroid shots, I developed diabetes and went into ketosis. My sugar levels were at 300. This medication really works and made me feel wonderful. But now I can no longer take it. Any suggestions."

"I am currently experiencing a terrible bout of sinusitis and am unable to breathe through my nose, which causes me a great deal of anxiety as I am not a mouth breather. I was unable to get any meaningful sleep. My doctor put me on an 8-day plan of prednisone with a dosage of 4-10 mg for 2 days, followed by 3-10 mg for 2 days. I am on day 4 of the treatment, and my breathing has improved greatly. The side effects can be tough for a few days, including anxiety, depression, and lack of sleep. I have not slept in 30 hours and took 2 lorazepam to calm my anxiety, which seems to be working. I am hoping to have a decent night's sleep. If I ever have to take this treatment again, I will because I cannot tolerate the symptoms of not being able to breathe."

"I've been on Prednisone round about 5 weeks ago with a few other tablets. I noticed something very good, by the way. This is my 3rd Prednisone course. This one was strong, 2 weeks of Prednisone up to 8 pills per day. The 2 previous ENT visits diagnosed me with nasal polyps. I could not smell, taste, or even breathe through my nose. It's been 5 weeks since I last took Prednisone and now I have my smell, taste, and can breathe easily. I just hope it stays like this. The previous time, it came back within 5 days of finishing the Prednisone."

"I was prescribed prednisone after visiting the ER for a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection I caught following a long flight. I have a history of frequent sinus infections, but this was by far the worst. The symptoms included full-body aches, extreme pressure in my face, ears, and nose, and I even lost my hearing due to the blockage. At the ER, I was given a dose of prednisone, and I was prescribed a 50 mg tablet daily for four days. Within 1-2 hours of the first dose, the pressure in my head started to lift, and I began to feel significantly better. I’m currently on my third day of treatment, and the results have been fantastic. What’s even better is that I haven’t experienced any side effects, which I believe may be due to my naturally low blood sugar. Since prednisone is known to raise sugar levels, I think this might explain why others with normal levels experience more negative side effects."

"Little dizziness, but when I had a sip of a mixed drink (alcohol beverage), the dizziness got worse. I experienced pounding in my ear. This medicine did not clear the fluid the doctor saw behind my ears. I can’t give a positive review of this medicine at this time."

Prednisone "It is one of the only things that opens up the sinuses to allow them to drain well, so the infection can heal. Otherwise, the infection never clears out and you can get a clogged-up sinus canal."

"This drug was horrible for me. I have been having horrible sinus symptoms for a month and a half now, face throbbing daily, feeling dizzy and exhausted, etc. Got prescribed prednisone 60 mg for 5 days, then tapering down for 10 days. I only took it for 3 days, and it made my condition 10 times worse. I already have intense anxiety disorder problems that I occasionally take hydroxyzine for. After taking prednisone, my life became a nightmare. Worst anxiety of my life, no sleep for days, seeing and hearing things that aren't there, waking up drenched in sweat, elevated blood pressure, 2 ER visits, etc. My symptoms were so bad that I was too terrified to take it again and stopped taking it with no tapering. It's been 2 days since then, and I am still experiencing insomnia. Maybe it's because I didn't taper, but oh well. I would rather suffer through the withdrawal symptoms for a few days than continue to introduce this drug into my system. I will never take steroids again!"
