"I have been taking prednisone bi-monthly because my cold/cough gets worse and wheezing gets to a point where my oxygen level starts dropping. It's been almost 3 years now, and doctors do not have an answer why or what is the trigger. Do I have anybody here with similar symptoms but was cured?"

"This was my daughter's first prescription for prednisone, along with benzonatate for cough. The morning after beginning meds, she woke up covered in itchy, hot, red hives. The doctor said it must be the benzonatate, so she quit taking that and continued the prednisone (the step-down blister pack dosage schedule), and the hives only got worse. Yesterday was her last dose of prednisone, and today she is as rashy as ever and says her skin feels swollen and tight. But at least we got lucky -- something like 60% of allergic reactions to corticosteroids are of the anaphylactic type, and she hasn't had anything like that, knock wood."

"I use prednisone twice a year. Spring and winter. I get a cold, and then I end up with a chest infection. My combined inhaler, Fostair, helps briefly, but the short burst steroid treatment usually works. I usually take 40 mg for 5 days, see if it makes a difference. If not, I then take a second dosage, another 40 mg for 5 days, which usually does the trick. I do get side effects like jittery, insomnia if taken in the evening, and I get a bit wired, where I talk a lot and cannot sit still. Moon face with lots of water retention, and the last time I ended up with a UTI, but that's because I went into a paddling pool on my last day of taking back-to-back steroid treatment."

"So recently I had to go to the ER because I couldn't get rid of a flare-up. They gave me some prednisone, and the next day it was like I didn't have asthma, I could breathe. The only problem was I had to pee a lot. I only have to take 1 pill 1 time a day for 3 days, and the best part is I can be around a trigger like dust or cold air or stress, and it doesn't affect me very badly! I would definitely recommend it if you can't get rid of an attack or flare-up."

"It stopped the cough and wheezing. I was on 20 mg to start and then cut back to 10 mg and then 5 mg. I've not had anything work as well."

"I had the flu, which flared up my asthma. Prednisone does work, but it causes me to sweat really bad and causes cramps in my body. Grateful that it's a tapered med."

"Usually, I try to take a drug without reading up on side effects, but this medication had me consistently checking for reactions online. It did help my asthma, but the allergic reactions and side effects kept me out of work the whole time I was on it. My vision became blurry, the nausea was daily, and swelling of my tongue didn't become manageable until I was down to 10 mg. Let me clarify, I was on this medication for almost two months, starting at 60 mg. My sugar went on a roller coaster ride..... they started giving me meds to deal with the side effects, which helped. I will never take this medication in the future. Listen to your body and speak up for yourself. I believe my problem is that I'm allergic to something in it."
