"I have been on Trilafon (perphenazine) for about 4 years. I'm on a low dose, 4 mg x 3 times a day. From what I understand, this medicine is a lot more gentle than most medicines that would treat bipolar, schizophrenia, and other forms of psychosis. It's not good for the elderly, as the higher the dosage you get, the more at risk you are for tardive dyskinesia (or tremors of the face, arms, and hands). I am 28, and this medicine worked when Lexapro, Geodon, Haldol, and risperidone wouldn't. I am given it for psychosis. In addition, I am on 40 mg Viibryd and 0.5 mg of Klonopin. I would recommend this medicine."

"I loved perphenazine except for the movement side effects, but Valium helps that. I was recently put on Haldol and had a psychotic break, so my doc put me back on perphenazine. It helped lower and tame my voices. It’s a wonder med, don’t rule out the old meds completely, they work. This is someone with schizoaffective disorder."

"My son has been hospitalized 4 times in the past 5 years. The doctors have prescribed a myriad of concoctions over these years. I've seen my son go from a healthy 160 teenager to a 210 lb unhealthy, sluggish, overmedicated, sad shell of a person. When he was introduced to perphenazine, he seemed to come back to life. But, unfortunately, as soon as we see real results, he quits taking the pills and it all starts all over again. How can I get my son to stick to taking his medication? Any suggestions?"

Perphenazine "I had a very bad experience with perphenazine. I ended up with severe joint pain, difficulty breathing, chest pain, a weird spinning sensation in my face on the right side of my nostril, on my forehead, and on the right side of my temporal area. I had difficulty urinating and horrible insomnia. It has been well over 6 months since taking up to 12 mg for only a few (about 2-4 days), and I am still having problems. I started on only 4 mg back in Dec 2013 and took the same dosage up to Mar 2014. I stopped because I could barely urinate. Then, I started having weird movement as stated above in my face, but not as bad as the movement when I took 12 mg. Then, I was told that I needed to start back on this drug for the movement to disappear."

"I have tried a ton of different meds for schizophrenia but all of them either have unbearable side effects or they don't work well enough. I used to be on Zyprexa (Olanzapine) before but it made me gain a ton of weight, it made me really sleepy during the day, and it didn't even work as well as Perphenazine! The weight gain stopped after switching to Perphenazine, and I'm no longer very sleepy during the day. I was really scared to switch to an older drug, but I'm really glad that I tried it. It's still not a miracle cure, but it's a lot better than everything else I have tried. I highly recommend you give Perphenazine a chance! It's also pretty cheap since it's an older drug. My doc recommended that I split the dose in half and take half in the morning when I wake up and the second half before going to bed."

Perphenazine "I was prescribed this in 2014 when I was 13 years old. It gave me permanent side effects. They include, widened waist that I cannot shrink, weird movements with my face. I have to do patterns in every single part of my body. It made my eyes look opposite ways, which now in 2019, is still there but not as bad. It made me gain weight, it made my skin dull and grey, like I was dead. I wish I could include a picture. It made me have a permanent tremor, too. It's a horrible drug. My posture now sucks, and I can't breathe if I try to fix it. I can no longer tan after I took it. I was tan my whole life, now my natural tanning peels off, and I am white. I was never white."

"My sibling was taking this drug. At first, it seemed to make her better. She would complain of difficulty swallowing, neck stiffness, and constipation. After 3 months, she went into a delirious state overnight and complained of a headache. She was hospitalized in a catatonic state, had an MRI and CT scan, which revealed fluid buildup. All medical tests to find the cause of the fluid buildup came back negative. This drug's side effects are cerebral edema (fluid buildup) and NMS (neuroleptic malignant syndrome). The fluid buildup only became clear during the CT scan."

"This medication is very good for anxiety. It worked wonders for my anxiety and paranoia. Helps lower the voice in my head telling me people are out to get me. Zyprexa works well too, but I have problems with my memory. It’s hard to deal with, and I am wondering how I can deal with the anticholinergic effects from these medications. Any suggestions?"

"I just got prescribed this several days ago, and it is already helping. I've been on Rexulti for several years for my schizoaffective disorder-related psychosis. However, a couple of weeks ago, I started going through an episode, and it just wouldn't go away. So, four days ago, I found myself in psychiatric urgent care to treat my episode, and they added the perphenazine in addition to my normal Rexulti, and what I can say is it's already working pretty well. I'm already pretty much back to my normal self. So, what I can tell so far is this is a pretty good, effective medication for schizophrenia and other types of psychosis."

"I have been on medicine from 2016 to 2018, gained 30 to 40 pounds. Sometimes it is hard to do anything, and I cannot focus very well. In the last 4 months, I am having to shuffle my feet and feel like I might fall over. Wish to find other medicine doctor can give me."

Perphenazine "Great drug! Helped get rid of my delusions. I’ve been on it 5 years now and the dose I am taking is 8 mg at night. Also take 1 mg Cogentin to prevent the shakes. Risperdal and Seroquel didn’t help me. Thankful for this drug. Saved my life."

Perphenazine "This really helped my PTSD and major depressive symptoms. Much better than Seroquel. Movement side effects when I got up to 12 mg a day. Lowered my dose back down to 8 mg a day and the movement side effects went away."

"I was put on this drug, perphenazine, when my psychosis got 'a little' out of hand after other medications failed. I experienced a very rapid recovery while on Peratsin (perphenazine) and did not need long-term therapy on the drug. I start the drug occasionally when rapid thoughts and feelings of mania/psychosis start to appear, always helping to resolve and stabilize me. It worked wonders for me, but I do know the dangers of the drug, like developing tardive dyskinesia, which scares me."

"It was an OK experience for me! I don't think I hit the full effects of it just yet, but Paxil @40mg seems to work much better for me. Tired of trying meds that don't make me too sleepy as well. Also, my appetite was low, so I lost a few extra pounds. If I don't see results in another 4 weeks, I'll ask my doctor to put me on Rexulti."

"I suffer from hebrephrenic schizophrenia, but that diagnosis is now obsolete. Presently, my illness is characterized as undifferentiated schizoaffective disorder. Symptoms included hearing voices, easily distracted, and violent rages for no reason. My previous treatment was with Mellaril, but for the past 2 years, my life has improved dramatically. I am on 32 mg/day of Trilafon, 20 mg of Valium, 20 mg/day Celexa, 1500 mg/day Depakote, and 25 mg/day dextroamphetamine. This is the most effective combination of drugs that I have ever taken, except my anxiety may require an increase in my Valium."

Perphenazine "I was put on this drug, erroneously I believe, as I was only suffering a major depressive episode in 1974. From that time until I went through menopause in 1997 (23 years), I had the side effect galactorrhea. I was never pregnant or post-breastfeeding during that time and took no other medication with that side effect."

Perphenazine "I had a similar experience. Tremors in hands (not really noticeable to someone watching unless they were looking for it), but relief from the delusions I was experiencing. My problem has been going on for over 16 years, so I anticipate it will not magically disappear (and it didn't), but the clarity of thinking I experience with this medicine really helps me."
