For Psychosis "When thiothixene was discontinued, my doctor prescribed fluphenazine. It is for psychosis. It is working as well as my previous medication. No side effects at all. Both of these medicines have changed my life for the better. Absolutely no side effects and absolutely no symptoms. I have lived a long, healthy, productive life with the help of these medicines and absolutely no side effects."

For Psychosis "My 19-year-old son had severe hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. He has tried Trilafon, Latuda, Haldol, risperidone, and nothing worked. His psychiatrist put him on Fluphenazine Decanoate Injection 50 mg, and all the above issues have finally gone away. This medication does give him a little more anxiety, but as time went by, it got better. The day of the injection is a little harder, but stick with it and give it a chance to work. This medication was the lifesaver for my son."

Prolixin (fluphenazine) for Psychosis "I was given Prolixin one day, and a couple of days later, I had a very bad grand mal seizure that wouldn't stop and ended up in intensive care. No apologies from anyone, just a $35,000 hospital bill. No admission that this pill caused it. Due to all the abnormalities that can show up on an EEG, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and brain damage. I've seen a neurologist since then, and I have neither. This pill is dangerous."

Prolixin (fluphenazine) for Psychosis "I've taken Prolixin since the '70s. It has saved my life. I'm scared of the possible side effects, but the trick is for all of the movement episodes I take 2 mg of Artane each time I take the Prolixin, it takes all the side effects away. ...try it!"

For Psychosis "I have taken this medication since December of 2016 for schizoaffective bipolar type. It has helped immensely with psychosis, such as hearing voices. I did not get much weight gain with this med compared to other ones, such as Risperdal. I mainly get restlessness, but it's the price I have to pay to remain stable and currently take propranolol for the side effect of restlessness."

For Psychosis "I was given an injection of fluphenazine in 2020 towards the end of the year for schizophrenia. It gave me akathisia. For about 7 months now, I have been unable to sit still or stand still for some time, and sometimes it makes living life difficult. This has been the greatest suffering I have gone through, a nightmare on earth experience. A condition that does not allow you to rest. I have tried propranolol, and it did not work for me. I have also tried Artane (trihexyphenidyl), which has helped me to some degree but not 100% cure from the akathisia. However, it has been improving over time, and I'm hoping it completely goes away someday. I stopped this drug (fluphenazine) and was switched to olanzapine 10 mg for schizophrenia, and I'm also taking mirtazapine 30 mg for depression."

For Psychosis "I have been using half cc of fluphenazine for years. Ever since I was 24 years old, I am 62 now. For schizophrenia, it works great. No signs of illness. Just had to change from a 4-week to a 3-week dose for irritability, it works for me."

For Psychosis "Fluphenazine is an excellent drug, no side effects or negatives to taking it. I take this drug with Latuda and a few other meds, and it helps me with the reduction of psychosis, hallucinations, and delusions."

For Psychosis "Been on Fluphenazine since 1992. Dosage has varied over time! 1mg to 5mg tablet per day. Has been a game changer for me. No side effects. No weight gain. Have tried other medications at the doctor's request but couldn’t handle the side effects."

Prolixin (fluphenazine) "My son is terrified of this drug and all of the phenothiazines. The worst thing it gave him was gross akathisia. They gave him extreme physical pain and gross akathisia where he paced like a caged lion 24 hours a day, seven days a week until he dropped exhausted. Horrible medicines."

For Psychosis "I have been on generic Prolixin for schizoaffective for about 3 years, and everything went great. I've only put on about 10 pounds within the last three years, but have not seemed to lose any weight on this pill. My delusions were fine for those three years. Up until now, my pill has now seemed to just stop working, my delusions and depression have come back, so it's time to change to a new medication."

For Psychosis "I have been off and on fluphenazine for the past 8 years. There wasn't a time that I was completely off antipsychotics. I tried a handful of them, and prolixin, along with clozapine, lamictal, hydroxyzine, and cogentin are what keep me out of the hospital. I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews on this medication. My advice is to give it a try. It does not make you gain weight, and it helps with hallucinations, paranoia, concentration issues, depression, and anxiety. I have no side effects except drowsiness on the injection day and the day after, but it is worth it. Prolixin also comes in pill form, which I've been on as well, but the injection is more convenient, and I always have a steady dose in my system just in case I forget a pill. Pill boxes work so well, in terms of compliance with my other medications though. I take 37.5 mg every 2 weeks, and I'm dx'd with paranoid schizophrenia."

For Psychosis "Prolixin is better than Zyprexa because it supposedly doesn't make you gain weight. My nurse and doctor both said it doesn't make you gain weight, so I started taking 2.5mg of Prolixin after quitting Zyprexa. Zyprexa made me gain 40 pounds! After quitting Prolixin and not taking any meds at all I noticed that I gained a lot of weight, but I don't remember having any problems with weight gain during the 2 months that I was on Prolixin (but then again I was barely eating. I was only taking a few bites per meal). Prolixin might cause weight gain and it might not, but it's better than Zyprexa and it didn't make me drowsy."

For Psychosis "I was diagnosed with schizophrenia somewhere in November 2020. The doctor gave me an injection of fluphenazine and told me it would stop the voices I was hearing. Unfortunately, this drug was not for me; it gave me akathisia, and this lasted for about a year. The whole of 2021, I've had akathisia, but I thank God that it is gone and I don't have it in 2022. I thought it would be permanent, so I wondered how I would survive. Fortunately, it does go away and could take that long. I was taking Artane to help manage the akathisia. Artane didn't really stop the akathisia, but it helped me to endure it and not feel like committing suicide because of it. Right now, I'm tapering off the Artane until February 2022. I had also tried propranolol, but it wasn't helping. Also, after figuring fluphenazine wasn't the right drug for me, the doctor switched it with olanzapine 10 mg, which is helping. I'm also taking amitriptyline 50 mg for depression; I struggled with that too."

"I have severe schizoaffective bipolar type 1. Fluphenazine is a horrible med. Absolutely terrifying. Worst med I've ever taken. I had the horrible feeling of imminent death. I would never recommend this even to my worst enemies. Take Abilify instead."

For Psychosis "Works very well, side effects are rough. First side effect I had was retention, then shaking, then I could not sit still. But after a little time on medications for side effects, the symptoms got a lot better. Do not like that I have to get it every two weeks, but for me, it works really good."

Prolixin (fluphenazine) for Psychosis "I needed to get on the lowest dose acceptable because it made me very tired, but it controls the symptoms very well: no more paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, etc. The best one I've tried so far."

Prolixin (fluphenazine) for Psychosis "Seems to work on quieting the racing thoughts. Just a bit scary to think of the possible side effects. Still better than the metabolic syndrome that is a byproduct of the newer medicines."
