"My neurologist gave me Tegretol for ten years. I also have MS. Then it stopped working, I was at 1200 mg. Then, after three months of pain, she switched me to oxcarbazepine, which worked after being on 1200 mg for 2 weeks. Then I only had problems for two weeks after the dentist had to refill a tooth. Nerve got excited and had to calm back down. But my neurologist told me this would be my last try at medications. The only side effects I get are after an hour or two, my eyes become hard to focus, and if I am fatigued, walking becomes off and unbalanced."

"In 2006, my Trigeminal-Neuralgia came on. I was told by a neurologist to take Tegretol. I let it go until 2008 when the pain became very long and intense. I took Tegretol 1200 mg until 2022. In 2023, I was put on Oxcarbazepine because no other medication would work. It took a week to start working at 1200 mg, and now I'm on 1275 mg. This is my last chance for medication. My neurologist told me I would have to have surgical help next. So far, so good! Thank you, Lord. This is a real blessing, despite some side effects. My eyes get some disturbance, and my balance is definitely affected. Sometimes, it takes 1/2 hour later, or 1 hour later, or 2 hours later to find my chair. I rely on this medication in my daily life."

"I also have TN. This is the most miserable condition known to man. I started on this drug about 7 months ago at 600 mg twice a day. There was some relief but had to add another drug for 85% control. I get extremely tired. I feel as if I am losing muscle strength. Still, I will continue this combination until the next recheck."

"It decreases my constant pain due to atypical trigeminal neuralgia. I am on treatment for TN for about four months and find it so effective, and I am able to do my day-to-day activities without any disturbances."

"Upon taking oxcarbazepine for trigeminal neuralgia (TN), I noticed that it never gave me any relief. Dosage was increased, and still no relief. I feel it was a waste of time to keep taking it."

"I started taking oxcarbazepine for TN and am now at 1200 mg daily, which prevents the shocks, but I'm having these weird 'zingers' to my left cheek and eye. Does this happen to anyone else?"

"I was given this medication for the possibility of nerve pain. At first, I was diagnosed 150 mg twice a day, which equals 300 mg. However, after 2 days, that didn't work for me at all. Then I was directed to 300 mg twice a day, which worked for about a week. Afterwards, and currently, my pain specialist upped my dose to 750 mg. He's telling me that after 5 days, with no improvement, he will increase it to 900 mg. I swear, being in pain sucks, but this is some good medication. I hope this helps."
