For Bipolar Disorder "I've been on generic oxcarbazepine, 600 mg 3x a day for years, and it wasn't quite enough alone to control my bipolar disorder. But taken along with lithium, it seems to have finally been the combo I needed to bring me back to reality with a stable mood, although it does make me very sleepy. I was crying every day and alternatingly unreasonably angry for years and years, going undiagnosed for decades. Bipolar runs rampant in my family, so I don't know why I didn't realize that was my issue, too! Just never put it together after watching my brother and sister's crazy rages since mine was so different than that! Derp!"

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "I have been on this medicine for 5 days, and it has absolutely turned my life around... literally. I was trying Tegretol, and it worked for my trigeminal/occipital neuralgia, but made me off balance, slur my words, even on a low dose. The doctor gave me this based on those debilitating side effects, and I have almost no side effects so far and almost no pain! So hoping it will continue to work like this!"

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "Female, over 70. Have had TN since 2007. Had MVD in 2013. Pain-free for a little over 3 yrs. Episodes have returned big time. Back on oxcarbazepine, but not totally effective. Prior to MVD, I tried upping the dosage from 300 twice a day to 300 three times per day, which caused false gallbladder symptoms and depletion of sodium. I am having some blurred vision at times and nausea. If I don't take the medication on time, the shooting, screaming, electric pains hit me with full force. I still have pains throughout the day, but can deal with those. I live in fear that the bigger pains are going to hit me any minute. I think the oxcarbazepine is effective with fewer side effects, from the information I've read."

For Bipolar Disorder "I started taking Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) a week ago. I started noticing relief of my manic symptoms almost immediately. This medication helped calm my mind down from racing thoughts and manic outbursts. I've tried so many medications in the past that didn't work for me. This medication is a Godsend. Right now, I'm on 600 mg per day."

For Neuropathic Pain "I have a problem with neuropathic pain due to nerve scarring at L5S1. I take Tramadol as the primary pain reliever, but I have also been using oxcarbazepine. It seems to have more of a long-term impact on reducing pain for me. In other words, I have to take it for about a week to see an improvement, and if I stop taking it, the pain takes about a week to return. I take 2-150 mg tablets. I have observed no side effects. I have been taking these drugs for some 15 years. I always have some level of pain, but these 2 drugs have made it possible to have a mostly normal life, not otherwise possible."

Oxcarbazepine for Bipolar Disorder "I have been on Trileptal for nearly two months. I have tried many medications because I am drug-resistant. I take three tablets during the day. When I take a tablet, I can feel a very comfortable soothing in about 30-40 minutes. This lasts for a few hours, then I need to take another tablet. This is the best medicine yet. At least Trileptal provides quick relief."

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "41-year-old female has TN associated with MS. Had the gamma procedure 3 years ago, and it worked wonders. However, it's back. As I sit here today, tears pouring down my face because it hurt to cry. I'm on Lyrica, Oxtellar, and Percocet. The problem is it hurts me to swallow anything, including these pills. Has anyone had that problem? I haven't eaten or had anything to drink for two days... assuming if it doesn't subside soon, I'll need to be hospitalized just to get hydrated. The pain is out of control. Like an electric drill on the side of my face. Please help."

For Neuropathic Pain "I have trigeminal neuralgia, and I have been using oxcarbazepine for 2 years now. I thank God because it has helped me tremendously! Most days I have little to no pain. My flare-ups come less often, and the duration is for shorter periods of time. I would highly recommend oxcarbazepine."

For Bipolar Disorder "I am bipolar II and tried everything before settling, happily, with oxcarbazepine (300 mg x 2 a day). Lamictal did nothing for the hypomania, plus I lost about 1/2 my hair. Everything in between had such major side effects I could not tolerate them. I have to take the oxcarb in conjunction with Lexapro 10 mg, but I'm pretty darn stable as long as I don't have too much caffeine. I take 150 mg trazodone for sleep. The only downside to the meds is that they affect my memory, and I'm probably not as sharp as I used to be. I'm also older!"

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "I used to suffer from facial nerve pain. I'm 34, and the doctors don't know why. I've been checked for MS. Anyway, I wanted to say this medicine has improved my life 100 times over, and quite frankly, I cannot function without it. To all who suffer from facial nerve pain, PLEASE try this medicine. It's not a lifesaver for everybody, but it's worth a try for those having pain so bad that words cannot express it. Take care, my friends, and try to maintain hope."

Oxcarbazepine for Epilepsy "I got diagnosed with epilepsy on 7/3/15 after having 9 absence seizures in a 3-hour period. I was put on Keppra 250 mg 2x/day, and over the years it’s increased to 1000 mg 2x/day. The seizures weren’t going away or becoming less frequent. In August 2019, I was put on Trileptal 300 mg 2x/day after finding out I was also having complex partial seizures, and this pill was my miracle. I haven’t had a seizure since!"

For Bipolar Disorder "This medicine saved my life. I would have never been able to finish college. It took two trips to the psych ward and complete honesty with the doctor to get me the right medicine, but ever since I've been put on it-no more pounding heart, no more manic episodes, no more depersonalization. It is truly a blessing to experience life a little better."

For Bipolar Disorder "This medication, oxcarbazepine, saved my life - I have bipolar disorder. It has changed my whole outlook. Once my therapist and the Dr. got me on this medication, I wasn't sure how to act. I was happy for the first time in my life. It stopped my manic highs and lows, it took away the suicidal thoughts and tendencies I was diagnosed with. I have had it to be increased once in the last four years of being on it three times a day. Now I take it four times a day. I'm starting to get that 'feeling' again, so I was checking to see if it could be increased and found that for the bipolar treatment, it can indeed be increased. When I go in to see my Dr., I am going to discuss this further with her. Oxcarbazepine, for a mood stabilizer, worked 100% for me, and I noticed the change in me within a week."

For Bipolar Disorder "I have taken Trileptal for many years. I could not be happier with the results of this medication. It gave me the 'brakes' I seemed to be lacking due to my BP. I would fly off the handle, stay mad for what seemed like days, and for nothing. I have only had slight side effects: mild headache and some dizziness at first and after any dosage changes. But these were nothing compared to the wonderful results I've had. Good luck, everyone!"

For Neuropathic Pain "Well, I took it for 4 years for mood, however, when I stopped for 2 years, my pain came back, and then a light bulb came on 2 years later that it probably blocked my pain, as I had pain so bad for the last two years. Muscle hurts so bad. Headaches, can't get out of bed. Started 150 mg at night, within 4 days, I felt better. It takes 4 weeks to take full effect, I heard. Very pleased."

For Bipolar Disorder "I'm BP2 with an ADHD comorbidity. My ADHD has always been fairly manageable with whatever stimulant is most en vogue at the time. Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, Focalin, Vyvanse, Mydayis, etc. However, my bipolar went undiagnosed for years, and I got every SSRI, benzo, and antipsychotic out there, with only the short-acting benzos helping with hypomania for a few hours at a time. I started Trileptal about 18 months ago at a low dose and slowly increased until I found the right balance. It is wonderful. I really mean that-I don't notice it; I just feel normal for the first time in my life. Of course, it doesn't resolve the ADHD symptoms that so many people with BP also have, but my stimulants seem to be more effective even at lower doses. Since starting, I've gone from 6-7 different medications a day to just Trileptal, a stimulant, and CS (with a benzo on standby JIC). The only side effect I've experienced was some mild numbness in my legs, mostly feet, intermittently between months 2-4, never since."

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "I, like all of you, have had trigeminal neuralgia for years. Was on Tegretol for 2 years, then quite an unexpected breakthrough of magnitude 11 on a scale of 1 to 10, pains every 4 mins. My doctor prescribed Lyrica, useless, with side effects of a drunk, double vision, etc. In France, oxcarbazepine is not the medicine of choice, convinced the doctor to prescribe oxcarbazepine, in half an hour normal."

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "I have had trigeminal neuralgia now for 4 years and have had great success with Oxtellar XR. If your insurance will pay for this drug, you will be very wise to try it. At first, it made me a little sleepy and dizzy, after a while, I was okay. It has kept me pain-free. Great drug, I take 1200 mg."

Oxcarbazepine for Seizures "I'm a 33-year-old female and was diagnosed with seizures at 31. They came out of nowhere. Had an MRI and an EEG, no signs of anything, they were normal. With not being able to find what type of seizures they are, it's hard to find help from anywhere. I tried this medication, Trileptal, and it is a nightmare for me. I started with 2 tablets a day along with Keppra that I was already on. They may not work well together. But I've been on Trileptal for 1 month now, and since the seizures have picked up, which I didn't like at all. I called the doctor, who is supposed to be a seizure specialist, and she said to up the medication. And that's when I noticed they were coming more than they normally do, and I noticed upset stomach. No success with it at all!"

For Bipolar Disorder "Works pretty well for stabilizing moods, mostly manic. I take 300 mg in the morning and 600 mg at night. Have been taking for about three years. Dr. will not let me take more than the 900 mgs. Headaches for a week when starting and during increasing dose. It does mess with my memory. I can forget asking someone a question three times and sometimes have some trouble remembering words I'm trying to express."

Oxcarbazepine "This is the first drug that has EVER worked for me. I have been medicated since I was 11 and I am 32. I have trauma, I have cancer, and I am very disabled. This is to give you some insight on some of my struggles. Four days ago I started Trileptal. I am telling you that I went from hating everything to bliss. No explosive outbursts. I will leave another review when I have been taking it for longer, but try it. It doesn't interact with my Adderall, Wellbutrin, Gabapentin, OR Elavil. It is covered by my government benefits. It helps me sleep, but not too long! I can still wake up when I want to! I actually cried because it's a miracle. My only complaint is that it makes me a little foggy. I am already ADHD so the extra brain fog is a little annoying, BUT keep in mind that I DO have cancer, fibromyalgia, AND PTSD so I am already pretty foggy as is. But I still have SO much energy and that's important when you have cancer. I just love it. Please try it?"

Oxcarbazepine for Epilepsy "Taking Trileptal for 5 months. Female. 450 mg twice a day. No seizures, but memory is now horrendous, and I'm so dumb and numb. Also, the 5-7% chance of having a deformed baby is not worth it, but I'm stuck because all the seizure meds are horrid. Also, now experiencing constipation."

Oxcarbazepine for Seizures "I was having seizures off and on for almost 4 yrs. Diagnosing this was difficult because I could never have a witness or could describe the symptoms. I was averaging 1 per month, then I got worse. I had 4 in two weeks, but all of them had witnesses. I called my doctor, and he ran heart tests and an MRI on my head. That's when he said I had partial epilepsy and gave me the Trileptal. I've been taking it for 6 weeks and haven't had any problems since then. I like this pill very much, and the best part is it's only $4 a month."
