"Been taking this for over a year with minimal side effects. It lowers heart rate and metabolism. However, make sure your doctor determines the cause of your hypertension. If you are not responsive to different blood pressure medications, asked to be checked for aldosteronism!!!"

"I am a 22-year-old male. Parents and grandparents both had high blood pressure and passed it right on to me. I have been taking Bystolic for about a year now and had excellent blood pressure. HOWEVER, I am extremely tired all of the time. If I do not get at least 9 hours of sleep, I am tired through the day. Before I started taking it, I was fine on 7 hours of sleep. I even have to take naps sometimes because I just can't stay awake. I have chest pain about once a week that lasts for an hour or so. Doesn't hurt, but very uncomfortable. Also, I have gained about 25 pounds in the past year. Blood pressure is good, but side effects are rough."

"I'm a 24-year-old female with a chronic heart condition. In November, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, 131/105. The doctor placed me on lisinopril, then added Bystolic. I've now had a blood pressure of 95/65 and feel tired a lot, but on the plus side, no chest pain and decreased swelling in arms and legs."

"I am a 43-year-old male. I recently was diagnosed with high blood pressure 190/104. My doctor started me on 5 mg per day for the first month. Raised it to 10 mg per day in the 2nd month and 20 mg per day in the 3rd month. Recently, I started having random and uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea. I am also tired all the time with low energy levels. I am an electrical contractor. Before I started taking this medicine, I was a high-energy, multitasker. Now, although my blood pressure is under control, I am tired most of the time, and at times I can't seem to think clearly enough to perform the complex logical tasks that my job requires. The diarrhea is sometimes uncontrollable."

"I was 29, dealing with stress that raised my blood pressure when I was placed on 10 mg of Bystolic. It worked immediately, and I felt it had no side effects besides helping me sleep most nights uninterrupted. After taking the medicines for 8 months, I began feeling lightheaded and got blood pressure in the neighborhood of 90/50, so I stopped use with support from my doctor. I've been getting healthy readings since. However, at my doctor's visit, I realized I'd gained a pound a month since starting Bystolic. I first quit cold turkey, on my own-bad idea-I experienced mild vertigo and the 'heavy leg' feeling some people have reported (which I also felt on the drug). Now it's out of my system, and I feel great-much more alert, energized, and losing weight much more easily."

"I am an almost 77-year-old lady and being treated for atrial fibrillation and hypertension. Bystolic has effectively controlled my high pulse rate and lowered my blood pressure, but it makes me terribly tired. I think I will try taking the medicines at night in hope that I can sleep the tiredness off. I was so interested in the weight gain comments. Now I have something to blame those extra pounds on!"

"I take Bystolic 10 mg for high blood pressure and high heart rate. It controls my blood pressure wonderfully but doesn't help my heart rate nearly as well, tends to wear off after about 6 hrs. Also experience some stomach upset, but no other side effects."

"I am a 43-year-old female, 5'7", 130. Been on Bystolic for about a month. BP went from 160/113 down to 93/58 in about 2 hours in the doctor's office. Went to the doctor due to dizziness and ended up with high blood pressure. Naggy little headache, but I also had oral surgery in the last month, so not sure which one it could be. I walk every day for 70 minutes, 14 miles. No side effects so far."

"I am a 40-year-old African American female. I have had uncontrolled high blood pressure for over 7 years, and it has caused slight damage to the left side of my heart. I am seeing a cardiologist who has tried about 7 different medications within the last year to treat my condition. In March of this year, they gave me samples of Bystolic 10 mg to take along with my 300/25 Avalide daily. At first, the results looked very promising; however, this medication was recently approved in January 2008."

"Do not take the Bystolic pill with other meds. If you do, you will get a bad feeling, including dizziness, a lightheaded feeling, like blacking out. Take it by itself and put 3 hours in between other meds."

"I've been taking 20 mg Bystolic for about a year. A lot of things I like about this drug, but some that I do not. It actually seems to make me calmer, and I believe it helps my social anxiety slightly. What I do not like is it seems to make my hands and feet numb. One time my toe was so numb it turned white and scared me quite badly. Also, I have woken up in the morning, and my arm has been numb. My arms and feet will tingle at times. I thought maybe I was just too inactive as I did not exercise at all, so I started exercising (walking) a few times a week, and for the most part, that problem has greatly diminished."

"Bystolic seemed to work pretty well for my blood pressure. Oddly enough, it helps keep my heart rate in check (I have severe anxiety). It seems to slightly reduce my panic attacks as well. As for sexual side effects, I have no clue, I am 55 years old and do not do it as often as I used to."

"This is my first time on any high blood pressure medication. My new primary care physician noticed that recently it's been high during my visits, so he decided to put me on Bystolic. The day he put me on this medication (before I started it), I was driving to work in the morning and suffered what I can only assume a panic attack feels like (which is why I went to my doctor later that day). My heart was pounding through my chest, my face and arms went numb, chest pain, and dizziness. Anyway, I have been on it for less than a month and have seen no negative side effects yet, and my BP has been normal. The only reason I didn't give this a 10 is because I have only been on it a short amount of time. We'll see if I get the same results over time."

"I was prescribed Bystolic 2 weeks ago to control HBP. It was 194/104 at the Dr. office. I had previously been prescribed Zebeta, which I liked, but it caused my heart rate to go down to 40 bpm. It also caused some stomach issues, but did lower my BP. Then I took ramipril and had a horrible cough, burning in my chest, and my throat swelled up almost immediately. I am very sensitive to medicines and only take 2.5 mgs of this, and it lowers my BP at that dose, but it still creeps up during the day. Also, it completely kills my appetite, which I can live with for now, and also some stomach upset at first, but seems to be getting better. I hope they don't up my dose. I like having very few side effects. Good luck."

"Great stuff, best blood pressure medicine so far. Almost no side effects, alas libido. If you are a jealous type and it's killing you that your girlfriend is partying without you... this is the medicine to take. It reduces sexual desire to a degree where you don't care. It's strange because I have (had) a good sex drive. It's almost like the female world lost her power over me."

"I am a 53-year-old African American female. My doctor said that my heart rate at rest was too fast, blood pressure was borderline, and I had mild left ventricle thickening. He prescribed 2.5 mg of Bystolic. I always feel like I have a chlorine taste in my mouth, my breathing does not seem as deep, and I have a strange sensation in my chest all the time. I feel more sluggish during exercise, but I have lost 16 pounds since on the medication since October. I am on a low-fat diet and I walk 2 miles daily. I think it is a good medication; I just wish I didn't have to take anything. I'm just not the same."

"I'm 39 years old, and I've been experiencing high BP for a few months - 190/140. I was on Effexor, and the doctor immediately took me off that and replaced it with Viibryd and added the Bystolic 10 mg. Definitely feeling better...no more heartbeats THUMPING in my head. Been a bit dizzy/lightheaded, but I'm attributing that to the change in antidepressant, but after reading everything...not quite sure. I've had some loose bowels too, but who cares as long as my pounding heartbeat is gone. I never felt bad before, but the medicines have given me some peace of mind."

"I just found out I had high blood pressure in April 2011. From April until August, I tried seven different BP medicines, and they were all too strong, to say the least, and made me sick to the point that I could not function and gave me severe headaches. My BP was all over the place, way high, then it would bottom out. My cardiologist suggested I try a beta blocker since I started having panic attacks as well, and it would help my heart rate slow down a bit. I started Bystolic 5 mg on August 1 and found out that one was way too strong, so they lowered my dose to 2.5 mg and I started taking it at bedtime. Taking it at night really did the trick and the lower dose is much better for me, and my BP is staying steady at about 117/72. So far, so good."

"I've been on Bystolic for a few weeks, and it's true that it controlled my rate very quickly. I have had a fast heart rate with apparently no cause they can discover. Like an average of 95, then 105 walking. Now, the rate is 68. Amazing. My pressure was also higher and now, it's better."

"The Bystolic did lower my b/p, but I have had a 30 lb weight gain that has been deemed 'metabolic syndrome' by my physician. He did a complete blood panel. My HDL is lower than it has been in 15 years, I have no thyroid problems. According to him, the only thing it could be is the medication has slowed my heart rate 20 beats at resting. I walk nearly 2 miles every day, up and down hill on the family farm, I can barely get a 120 heart rate. My legs and butt look great, my upper abdominal and thoracic area has increased by 10 inches. I had never had fat in the thoracic area until I started this medication. Upon reading the hypoglycemic side effect and the warning about multiple severe allergy 'anaphylaxis' treatment, I don't know why my MD recommended it."

"Didn't reduce my pressure the way I wanted, usually between 130/80 to 140/90. Was good for my rapid heart rate and usually brought my diastolic rate down. Unfortunately, I became tired a lot, which I cured by taking good vitamins from GNC. It calmed me from occasional anxiety. It made me sleep well, and I stopped having headaches. Unfortunately, I had acne, which I have never had in my life, labored breathing, some hair loss, blurred vision, and I became very anxious after six months of being on the drug, which made my pressure escalate. I have switched medication now, and my doctor is weaning me off slowly. I have gone from 10 mg to 2.5 mg. It's a great drug if it works for you, but it is not for everyone, and the side effects vary."
