Naltrexone for Opioid Use Disorder "I was an addict for 20 years. Mainly opiates. I decided to seek help and got into a mat program that provides Vivitrol injections for free and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). That's awesome and everything because I've been wanting to be on Vivitrol for at least a year, but I didn't think it was possible because I didn't have insurance. So I went through the whole withdrawal process because you have to be clean to get the shot, and then when I got the shot, I thought everything was going to be great. I was wrong. The first five days I could not eat or sleep. After that, I have been feeling a lot better, but my anxiety has been through the roof. And the injection site still hurts sometimes, even after 3 weeks. Next week I'm due to get my second shot, and I'm hoping it will be better. It kind of seemed like I was on chemo because the first 5 days after the shot had such terrible side effects."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "On 50 mg for 5 days, taking it in the morning. I'm 50 years old, in and out of rehab, my last 3 walked out. I'm presently attending pretreatment for intensive outpatient. Want my life back, alcohol has been a way for me to deal with problems. The 1st day was bad: very achy muscles, joint pain, very tired, bad headaches, want to sleep, anxious, nervous. Too many side effects to even think of drinking. The 5th day was worse than the 1st day. Wondering if the injection is any better than the daily dose."

Naltrexone for Alcohol Use Disorder "Received my first injection of Vivitrol and had a reaction the next morning to the drug. Swelling in the face and chills with sweats alternating and anxiety. With the drug, however, I did notice a lack of desire for drinking, but it's hard to compare with the reaction I'm having. The doctor is pulling me off of this medication."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "Absolutely horrible. When I tell you this medication made me want to jump off of a bridge, I would rather have a hangover. I took 50 mg naltrexone and split it to 25 mg, having a feeling that this probably would get me sick, and thank God I split this pill. Within an hour, I was shaking, chills, feverish, ANXIETY THROUGH THE ROOF, my head felt like it was 50 pounds. I kept rolling over, trying to make it stop in the bed. I got so desperate I went and put ice in Ziploc bags and put it on my head, chest, and neck. I couldn’t even move or comprehend a sentence. THE BRAIN FOG WAS INSANE. I felt like my head was not even on my body. Luckily, my boyfriend grabbed me a bunch of Pedialyte, chicken noodle soup, liquid IVs, and saltine crackers with Advil because I do not know how. I am so fatigued, hopefully, in the morning I will feel better. This was the worst. Never again."

Naltrexone for Opioid Use Disorder "While on the shot, I had extreme fatigue and couldn't orgasm. Those aren't horrible, except the orgasm part. It's getting off the shot that has given me constant headaches that nothing touches, extreme anxiety, and irritability. I feel crazy, my mental health is not right. This is not my first rodeo, I was sober for 15 months through AA before I relapsed and got on the shot after a treatment center. This is not normal for me, and the only thing that's different in my life is I was on the shot and now I'm not. I recommend it for someone struggling, being sober is better than dying from the disease. Though the way I have been feeling could have easily made me go change the bad way I feel if I didn't have the support I do."

For Opioid Use Disorder "I've been on Vivitrol implant for 3 weeks. I now have severe anxiety, headaches, my brain feels scrambled, it's hard to explain. Sex drive is gone, not suicidal, but I have suicidal thoughts. I don't have a desire for opiates, probably won't get another implant at the end of 2 months. I feel worse than I did going through withdrawals. IDK, my brain's a mess."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "I have never taken this medication but have had it in my cupboard for a few months now. I'm a heavy drinker, probably the equivalent of 15 drinks a day, but fortunately have never hurt anyone... physically or emotionally because of it. I drink socially and alone, but it always makes me happy and makes me feel like I'm busy... mentally. My sleep has become affected drastically, negatively, and my anxiety and OCD are becoming an issue. I'm excited with the thought of taking this, but I'm afraid of it not working or, if it works, how different my life will be... better, I'm sure, hopefully, but still... I also wonder if you can take this on and off based on upcoming events, or is that an insensitive question with all of this..."

For Opioid Use Disorder "I was on methadone for 4 years at 140 mg and tried twice to taper down and get off. But the withdrawal symptoms going down each time caused stress, anxiety, and I failed both times despite my true desire to have my life back. I went to the Colman Institute desperate for help to get off deathADONE! It ruined my life, I got fat, I was lazy, unmotivated, and it ruined my T count also. I checked in on the 23rd having taken my last dose of methadone on the 18th and used some H till 3:30 on the 22nd. In eight days I took urine that was totally clean of all methadone and H. Then they made a small incision and put in a naltrexone pellet. Today is May 9th and I'm doing great. All of a sudden my smells come back, my taste, all my senses!"

For Alcohol Use Disorder "I have been drinking nightly for 2 years now to sleep, and it became excessive. My psych prescribed this to me, and I took the 1st dose last night per directions. It's 11 a.m., and I am jittery, can't focus, shaking, and my muscles hurt. Didn't sleep a wink last night. Should I split the dose? Take a different time? I drank a beer to help me calm down, but it tastes like crap. Thoughts?"

Naltrexone for Opioid Use Disorder "Listen up. It's probably worth the risk of trying it for a month to see if you get the side effects or not. I did, I got extreme anxiety, depressing thoughts, and fatigue. Constant stretching and 0 motivation in the first five days. Then it gets a little better, so I don't know, it drove me to go smoke meth, but I didn't do heroin or want to. And now that I have made it through the 5 days of side effects, I guess I could say it's worth it."

For Fibromyalgia "It was fine for a few days taking naltrexone, but then, ten hours after I'd take it, I had crippling nausea, anxiety, was sweaty, and shaking. I thought I might have eaten something bad, so I rode it out. It happened the next night, at the exact same time as before. I began to suspect it. The same thing happened again at the same time. I told my doctor, and we stopped it. It was just 1 mg. This drug feels cultish. It's really hard to find someone to prescribe it. My rheumatologist wanted me to take it, but she said she couldn't write it. Why? And look into the trials done with LDN. One of the books about it tries to convince patients that testimonials are just as good as double-blind testing. That's not how science works. It supposedly treats a laundry list of things from cancer to MS. That's a red flag. Please research this. You'll find people without medical licenses prescribing it and people getting their ability to prescribe it taken away. It's a very suspicious situation."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "Naltrexone requires that you set the dose. My doctor put me on 50 mg for binge drinking on weekends. That was too much. It had me anxious, jumpy, fatigued, and sedated all at the same time. I started splitting the pills in half, and it was still too much, so finally, I started taking them whenever I needed to take the edge off. These pills work immediately!"

For Opioid Use Disorder "So I started taking the pill naltrexone this morning. I was on day 9 of being off Subutex and was taking the Subutex for 5 years following an opioid addiction for several years prior. I had it very rough the first week of being clean, then things started getting a little easier. Other than the occasional anxiety, insomnia, and just plain no motivation to do anything. I first was prescribed clonidine to help with anxiety, and really it's to lower heart rate. One minute I would feel okay, the next very sluggish. Did 2 days of this, then went to the naltrexone. I felt pretty good this morning before I took the pill, and now it's like I'm back into withdrawals...anxiety, sweats, muscle aches...it just seems to be very discouraging. Should I continue the naltrexone?"

For Opioid Use Disorder "Horrible reaction to a drug, gave me chills, restless legs, anxiety, pain. Like opioid withdrawal, but I was using it after 7 days of abstinence."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "I took one 50 mg tablet. A short time later, I became tense and irritable. The next day, very tired, irritable, dizzy, nauseous, unable to cope with even the slightest noises or interactions with people. Everything upset me. I did stop drinking because the feeling reminded me of a terrible hangover. Hope it goes away soon. It's been 2 days."
