For Allergic Rhinitis "I cannot use montelukast again. I used it for one month, and it gave me bad side effects: painful stomach, shortness of breath, blocked nasal, headache, anxiety, panic, sleeping issues. I stopped two months ago, and some side effects are still here with me. What an awful drug."

For Allergic Rhinitis "My 8-year-old son and I have the same problem of allergic rhinitis, though he has asthma. Every morning was the worst and consumed 1 roll of tissue paper to wipe our noses while coughing and sneezing at the same time. We have been to his doctor, and he was prescribed montelukast for his allergy and an inhaler for his asthma. So far, his asthma is quite gone now, and his allergy has also slowly improved, and he’s not suffering from sneezing every morning, with no coughing at all. It happens sometimes that he has difficulty sleeping, but maybe it's the side effect of this drug. As long as he has no more asthma and allergic rhinitis, I'm happy enough. This montelukast probably is not good for everyone because it might give a different effect to your body, so don't take it without your doctor’s advice. On the other side, I am still suffering from my allergic rhinitis until now since I got another brand name of medicine from my doctor and have to stop it, and maybe I will try to take montelukast instead and see how it works."

Montelukast for Asthma "Singulair helps long term to control asthma. It does affect moods. I take it at bedtime, sometimes, it makes me have insomnia. I’m not sure about headaches, as I take inhalers that could cause that."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've taken both Singulair and Montelukast. The first time I took Singulair, several years ago, I had nightmares filled with horror. I quit taking it. I now take Montelukast and still have unusual and eerie dreams, but they are not full of the horror of those from several years ago. I also find it difficult to sleep more than a few hours at a time, partially because of the dreams, which wake me. However, it controls the night coughing better than any other drug I've used, from prednisone to Advair. I will continue to take it unless the side effects worsen."
