For Insomnia "This pill gives me an appetite, helps my depression, helps my anxiety, and helps me sleep. I love it. I don't know what I would do without it, to be honest, and if I need to be on one medication for the rest of my life, this would be it. I have been on many pills, and I'm normally really picky about side effects, but this one is just great for me."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I love Remeron! Even though it doesn't work sometimes, it definitely helps with mood, sleep, and your appetite when it does. I guess because I've taken it for so long, my body thinks it's a Skittle. But skipping a week or just taking it when needed has better results for me. Without it, I tend to lose weight every day from the effects of not eating when I'm busy. This helps me to keep my appetite and energy up until the next dosage. I hope this post and the medicine helps someone else as well. Just do not forget about the symptoms, be prepared for them, and enjoy your life on Remeron!"

Mirtazapine for Depression "I literally split a 15mg down to into 8ths because my body is so sensitive. Wow... I have been out of it for DAYS. I cannot stop sleeping. Put me in a horrible weird state like I don't know what's going on or like I'm truly awake. Just feel 'out of it'... Off of a sliver! I have read contradictory things about dosing. I would indeed say and agree with that the lower doses are VERY sedating. Very weirdly vivid (not nightmarish) dreams... I had a gene test done and this medication was on my 'lower doses maybe be required'. I can't even imagine what a high dose would do! This is completely staying on my 'NO!' list! Be careful of this medication because it is POWERFUL. I feel like I've just been high for days. Like I've just been smoking the most dank weed and I've just been stuck in this high. When I wake up, I feel like I'm manic, like I just have a huge rush of anxiety. I wanted to try this because I am experiencing 'heartburn' like chest pain that isn't acid-related at all."

For Insomnia "Have suffered insomnia and anxiety for 15 years. Slept 6 to 12 hours per week. SSRIs ineffective. Would visit Dr. every 2 to 3 months and beg for 4 sleeping tablets (I'm a Brit) because I was dizzy and almost crying with exhaustion. A new GP prescribed Mirtazapine, and I have slept a minimum of 6 hours each night from the start. Feel fantastic. Colleagues notice a difference, house is clean, bags of energy. P.S. no more horrible dreams either."

Mirtazapine for Anxiety "I had been taking Remeron for about 4 years for severe anxiety and insomnia. It works great and gets you back on a normal sleep pattern right away. Yes, the side effects do get less and less after a few weeks. I have stopped using it now."

For Anxiety "I started taking 15 mg at night about 6 weeks ago for anxiety/insomnia and mood problems. I started to feel some relief after just a few weeks and have begun to feel a lot better as time goes on. My doctor advised me to increase my dosage to 30 mg (1 pill) after 2 weeks, but I found it was too much for me and I got quite overwhelmed by the way I felt while at work one day, which was not a pleasant experience! However, since going back down to half a tablet each night, things have really leveled out for me. My anxiety is much lower and I don't feel depressed at all. At present, the best part for me is being able to sleep well most nights, as lack of sleep was becoming a real problem. I do have to watch my food and alcohol intake, but that's a good thing!"

For Anxiety "I wasn't sure whether to take this. Fluoxetine and propranolol put me in the hospital, but I decided to give it a try. The first week was amazing, I felt so much better. I'm currently in menopause and experiencing menopause anxiety, which I've never had before. I'm now on week 3 and have had a few bad days, but I understand it can take up to 6 weeks to work. All I can say is that if you've tried everything else and it hasn't worked, this antidepressant does. As for the weight gain and hunger, it only lasted the first week and I don't feel like that anymore. Compared to how I felt weeks ago, when I didn't want to be here, this medication has saved my life. I highly recommend it and don't plan on stopping it anytime soon."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I was on Remeron for about 2 years before. Helped very much with my depression. But although I often felt very sleepy near the beginning of the treatment, the massive fatigue eventually subsided to an acceptable level. 20 mins after taking it, I'm ready for bed. I can't keep my eyes open no matter what. I just restarted Remeron two days ago after more than a year being on it. As I type this, I feel fogged over, sort of sleepy, and immensely 'munchie'. As before when I took it, I'd find myself waking up several times a night going to raid the fridge and cabinets for munchie or sweet foods (and meats! definitely craved meat all the time). So again, on Remeron: eating again, sleeping some, more relaxed, less sad."

For Insomnia "I have always had a problem with sleeping, even as a 7-year-old. When I turned 40, the problem got so much worse, and the anxiety from not sleeping caused me not to sleep for months. My doctor prescribed mirtazapine, and I agree with a lot of comments on here that say it saved my life. I was ready to end it all... I take 15 mg per day at night and sleep like a baby. I am now 74, so I have taken this for 34 years. Every once in a while, I tell my husband that I don't need it anymore, and maybe I should quit taking it. He says let me know when you stop so I have a chance to move out!!! This is a wonder drug. My new doctor decided that I should go off this medication for whatever the reason. I was a total basket case after 3 weeks... I don't know what I'd do if they ever took this drug off the market!!"

For Anxiety "I’ve been taking 15 mg of mirtazapine for several weeks, and it has significantly improved my anxiety, sleep, and mood. Before this, I tried amitriptyline and tianeptine (Tianeurax) without success. Only diazepam helped slightly, but now I rarely need it thanks to mirtazapine. It also completely relieved my chronic nausea from day one. I did gain about 5 kg, but this is a positive for me as I go to the gym and had lost weight due to anxiety. This medication gave me back my motivation, creativity, and emotional balance. I experienced no side effects at all. I highly recommend giving it a chance!"

For Depression "I've been taking it for a week. I was taking sertraline before for PTSD, which led to depression and anxiety. I take it at night, 30 milligrams. It's such a relief to be able to sleep, and I can feel that my mood has improved. I feel more like myself, less cranky, which is very fun. Just little changes, but it's only been a week. I'll write back in six weeks."

For Insomnia "I have suffered from insomnia for decades to the point of job loss, self-medicating with alcohol, and then sleeping days at a time once I reached the point of exhaustion. On just 7.5mg of mirtazapine, I am a new human! I truly believe a very low dose is the way to go for insomnia. I suffer from depression, and I suspect PTSD. Melatonin, Nyquil, codeine, nytol, prescription sleep aids, even pain medications like Tramacet had zero effect on my sleep. I could be so exhausted I was impaired and still not sleep. It has only been 7 days, but on 7.5mg, I have NEVER slept like this in my life. I fall asleep in minutes, I only wake a couple of times a night, and my energy level is at a place it has not been for 20 years. I am a new human. And oddly, I have adversely experienced a decrease in my appetite. I was a major stress overeater and this has completely balanced me."

For Anxiety "I have been on many medications, and this seems to be working the best. So far, so good and only getting better. I have never really been depressed, but I did feel weird and used to worry all the time and couldn't work out why (ANXIETY). I have been misdiagnosed with ADHD and Bipolar. All those medications made me worse (Zyprexa, Lovan, Lithium, Carbamazapine, Effexor). I now take 15mg of mirtazapine before bed and have accomplished more in 6 weeks than I have in years because I don't have that weird feeling hovering around me anymore. I think it would be wise for parents with 'ADHD' kids to get another opinion because it could just be anxiety causing concentration problems."

For Insomnia "It's irresponsible for people to scream in all caps, 'DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG!!!' especially after one night. ALL research supports low-dose (7.5mg) for insomnia. Anything higher is activating (there are always exceptions) on norepinephrine. Not everyone gains weight. Diet and exercise will keep the weight off if you do gain weight, just as it will without taking it. And this discussion board is for insomnia, not anxiety or depression. Low-dose for insomnia/per peer-reviewed science!"

For Insomnia "It used to take me a good 3-4 hours to fall asleep at night, now it takes me around 20-30 minutes. I feel much more energized during the day and actually enjoy sleeping again. It has also helped decrease the amount of nightmares I used to have."

For Insomnia "I started taking mirtazapine 4 months after having a baby as my anxiety was so bad. I was literally only getting 0-2 hours of sleep a night. I broke down due to having no energy from lack of sleep, so I went on mirtazipine as a last resort. The first 2 weeks were tough. I experienced blurred vision and felt drunk most of the time, but since then the side effects have worn off and I'm sleeping 6-7 hours a night now and feel much calmer. Please give these a go if you are struggling with insomnia. They honestly saved my life."

For Insomnia "I have experienced sleep problems for 10 years, lost both parents, have a very busy life, house to run, full-time physical job. I was a complete wreck, worn out physically, to the point I couldn't function or speak even to people. I dreaded going to bed and sat up all night trying everything to get to sleep. I had to be up for work at 5.30, driving on motorways felt like a zombie. These tablets are my lifesaver. I've got my spark back, no side effects, only aches in my joints, but that's nothing to me. I feel human again, no weight gain which is fantastic. I was scared of the weight gain, but I have been fine. Don't be scared of trying them, they're a savior."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I read about Remeron somewhere online and asked my doctor for it. I take 30 mg daily. It helps with depression and helps me sleep. Take it right before you go to sleep. If you take it earlier, you might get hungry. Because this medicine makes food indescribably delicious. Get this drug. It will help you immensely. Good luck!"

For Insomnia "I am a senior and expected to be calmed by this drug. It did the opposite. The 7.5mg dose made me more alert, gave me severe dry mouth, made it harder to urinate, and never gave me a really relaxing and calm moment. Even after 12 after taking the drug, I was unsteady on my feet. The problem with these sleeping medications is that they have such varied effects on people. The doctors have no idea if these medications are going to help or going to hurt the patient. Too often it is trial and error. It's like going to a witch doctor. Maybe the sleep medicine will work or maybe not. Of course, the doctors want to help, but the reality is that they actually don't any more than the collective intelligence of the posters on this thread."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I was started on 7.5 mg of Remeron when I was having anxiety and panic attacks. Within a few days, I started feeling significantly better. A few months later, and I have had only a few minor episodes of panic. It has greatly improved my life with no major side effects."

For Anxiety "So far so good... been on all sorts of antidepressants and this one works the best! No sexual decrease like others. I do want to eat all the time but I work out and am very active. I sleep so much better now and my anxiety and panic attacks are gone. I was also prescribed 2mg Valium which I rarely take now because of Remeron. Been taking 4 weeks now."

For Anxiety "I was originally put on this to boost my poor appetite-and accidentally changed my life for the better! I sleep through the night, don't have that drugged feeling, I don't get road rage or stress anymore but can still fully feel all human emotions when pressed, including anxiety and anger. Just on a more normal scale."

For Anxiety "I have been taking mirtazapine for three months now, started on the 7.5mg then increased to 15mg, and now I'm taking 22.5mg. I was a wreck and hospitalized with anxiety symptoms when I started mirtazapine. They saved my life. I have gained weight, but that was needed as I had lost too much due to nervous stomach. I still have wobbly days on and off and the odd panic attack, but seriously not like as I did before using this drug. I couldn't take Prozac, citalopram, or sertraline, but this drug has been amazing. I'd rather have a bit of weight on me than suffer the anxiety. I'm thinking of upping to 30mg as recommended optimal treatment for anxiety. Please don't be afraid to try this drug if others have failed you. I wish my GP had prescribed this one first, it might have saved me months of bedridden anxiety. Good luck everyone x"
