For Anxiety "Mirtazapine saved my life. I have struggled with severe anxiety and depression for a few years now, and was previously on SSRIs, which seemed to make me a zombie and give me lots of unwanted side effects. I first tried Mirtazapine 15mg 3 years ago after months of misery and no sleep. The first night I took it, I slept like a baby. The positive effects were almost immediate, and the medication worked wonders for me. It truly was my miracle medication. I woke up way less anxious, and within two weeks I was so relaxed, less depressed, and I was getting all the sleep I needed and doing things again. Last month, I upped my dose to 30mg as I wasn't getting the full effects of 15mg anymore, and that's helped me become way less groggy in the mornings as I have way more energy. I find it's less 'sedating' but more calming than 15mg. I had no side effects going up - I felt great and usually I react badly. This medication felt like my last hope and it changed my life. Please don't give up!"

For Anxiety "Mirtazapine is the only antidepressant I can tolerate (tried all of the others). I need it for GAD, PTSD, and insomnia. My usual effective dose is 30mg, but I can either go up to 45mg or down to 15mg depending on where I’m at. It 'can' make you put on weight, but it doesn’t have to if you watch your diet and exercise. Also, be aware when the carb cravings hit, try to be mindful and have some protein instead. The fog should wear off after a few weeks. I find going to bed an hour earlier most nights helps waking up a bit easier."

For Anxiety "Have had depression with anxiety and insomnia 4 times in the last 10 years. Tried Prozac, went nuts, citalopram up to 60mg, did not work, sertraline, fabulous but took 6 weeks plus to get better at a relatively high dose and with horrid side effects. This time mirtazapine as had heard so many good things, I am a health care professional. Day 3 like a light bulb moment. Better. Sleeping like a baby, anxiety gone and mood back to normal. Amazing."

For Depression "I have been taking mirtazapine 30mg for now 3 years and it’s extremely beneficial for me. SSRI didn’t work well for me and/or gave me unacceptable side effects. Mirtazapine helps me sleep well, calms my anxiety, makes me more optimistic and positive… without any sexual side effects, weight gain, and now I’m not sleeping 18 hours a day or feeling sleepy at all during the day. Health care professional myself, I can’t warn you enough about all the bad reviews. People who left bad reviews seem to forget that the medication is not the only factor to consider. They were not well before taking it so there is a lot happening outside the meds."

For Insomnia "I WANT TO SHARE on 2 Feb 2020 said it all. I have also been on Escitalopram for depression for a few years now. But my biggest issue became insomnia, firstly after working night duty as a nurse, then I was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year. Had it out Jan 13, 2020 all good, but awake all night then fell asleep at 9 or 10 am, slept all day and so awake again all night. This week, my doctor gave me Mirtazapine 15 mg (but taking half tablet) then up to 1 as from next week. She told me that it seems to work better for sleep on lower doses of it, rather than taking higher doses. Took my first dose last night, after 20 min felt dozy, then fell asleep, woke once for about 15 min, then fell asleep again for the rest of the night. A little groggy today but then again I am still recovering from my brain surgery, so a bit foggy most days, overall feeling fine. Hope it continues, and good luck to everyone else."

For Anxiety "This is a very good antidepressant. It worked for severe anxiety within 3 days initially. Sertraline took a few weeks, Mirtazapine was instant. No side effects except a bit more hunger but only in the few hours after you take it, so take it at night."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I have ADHD, OCD, and depression. The moment I took this medication, my intrusive thoughts from OCD went away. I am no longer depressed, even when life should be getting me down. Everything seems bearable. I just feel like things are okay, I can make it. I've never felt like this before, really. Most of the time I get overwhelmed with life, but I think this medication has pulled me out of the dark hole I was in before. It does make me very hungry and sleepy. I take it in the evenings. It's hard to get up in the morning, but coffee fixes that for me. I don't recommend this to someone who cannot control their eating habits and gains weight easily."

For Anxiety "After being prescribed Zoloft, Lexapro, etc., over the past 5 years for my 'anxiety', I finally found this medication actually chills my constant anxiety. Mind you, I have never been depressed. I take it at night before bed (15 mg), and it slowly puts me to sleep, unlike Ambien. I do have vivid dreams but I wake up feeling well-rested and with energy. Unlike Ambien, which stayed with me the next day and zapped my energy. I say, please give this a try for your anxiety. If you are more depressed, you might need another medicine. I found all the antidepressants I've tried for my anxiety make me more anxious and, oddly, depressed. I hope this helps those with mild to moderate anxiety, as it did for myself."

For Insomnia "Mirtazapine saved my life! I don't have any side effects. I tried a lot of meds for insomnia, but nothing helped. I didn't sleep for years and years and nobody believed me. I was thinking about taking my life. Thank you mirtazapine! I am not thinking about stopping taking it."

For Insomnia "I've been taking mirtazapine for almost a year. I've had insomnia since high school, and it's gotten worse the older I've gotten (I'm 25). I tried 4 different sleeping pills before this one, and started with a 15mg dose of mirtazapine. It didn't seem to help at all, and I was still up all night and day. So I decided to take 2 at a time, and it actually worked great. I called my doctor and got switched to 30mg. I've seen a lot of reviews on here saying lower doses work best, but 30mg has worked best for me. I sleep through the night, and wake up feeling fine. No grogginess, or dizziness. Just remember everyone reacts differently. I've tried many different sleeping pills, and this one by far works the best, and it's super affordable. $12 for 3 month's supply? Done. (My doctor is one of those sticklers who won't prescribe anything that can be addictive like Ambien.)"

For Anxiety "Came off Citalopram, slow taper. Realized quickly that I couldn't survive PTSD, GAD, and OCD without medication. Was put on mirtazapine 15 mg. But I did my research! My fear was weight gain, it almost stopped me from trying it. However, I came across research regarding how mirtazapine crashes your cortisol (which is why it works so well). Apparently, this is what causes the carb cravings. So, I dropped the carbs. It was a tough 2 weeks, but RESULT! Zero craving and rather than gaining weight, I am losing. I gained three stones on the Cit, so that's even better news. I thought that I had to choose between being fat and happy or thin and crazy. Instead, my choice is between carbohydrates or protein. It's important to make sure to get a good multivitamin that includes minerals. Also, eat plenty of green leafy veg (after transition). But apart from that, which is NOTHING compared to cravings, weight gain, or coming off meds, it's a small price to pay. Do your research, it's a total game-changer!"

For Insomnia "I’ve had bad insomnia for about a week, only getting 1-2 hours of sleep here and there. I first took mirtazapine about 3 days ago, a quarter 30mg tablet, so approximately 7.5mg. About 30 minutes later, I went to bed and slept through about 9 hours. Falling asleep was peaceful. I had a type of quietude in my mind. It really just felt peaceful. I’ve been having deep sleep as well, but just that the idea of sleep is really appealing to me. They don’t make you feel tired, they just make you feel at peace with everything. I’ve had these tablets for about 3 months, but I’m very wary of taking any sleeping tablets. These are not sleeping tablets, but they quiet that part of your mind that stops you from falling asleep naturally."

For Anxiety "Mirtazapine is a miracle, but you have to take a small dose, meaning about 7.5 mg to 15 mg, no more than that. Larger doses cause too much adrenaline release, so if you gave up on Mirt before, try it again with a pill splitter at a very small dose, just before bedtime. It will help you sleep, and it has virtually the opposite side effects of SSRIs, meaning no sexual side effects, and no anxiety increase - only decrease. I take it for debilitating anxiety just as I described."

For Insomnia "I had anxiety and started taking Escitalopram 2 months ago. I knew it would take about 4 weeks for it to work. I also knew that my anxiety could first get worse before getting better. But I started experiencing severe insomnia. I used Lorazepam for a week, Ambien for 2 weeks. But those medications would help me sleep only for a couple of hours. My doctor prescribed Mirtazapine 7.5mg, but I decided to try a lower dose 3.75mg. That was the first night in about a month that I slept through the night. I took Mirtazapine for 3 weeks. I enjoyed my sleep and I loved my dreams. I did not have an increased appetite, but my appetite did improve with my overall condition. I did not put on any weight as I was watching it after reading multiple reviews here. I stopped taking Mirtazapine a few days ago without any problems at all. And I still sleep very well at nights because the Escitalopram started working and I am not having anxiety anymore. Mirtazapine is a miracle drug for insomnia. Saved me."

For Anxiety "In 2009, I had a severe anxiety attack with increased symptoms over the next year. My family doctor tried so many anti-anxiety/depression medications, none of which worked. I wasn't sleeping, and thus began with my downward spiral. I live in Canada, and Mirtazapine/Remeron was very new, so no doctor was prescribing it. Things got so bad with me that my husband decided to admit me to a clinic in Arizona. That's where I was started on Mirtazapine. When I first started it, I had such bizarre dreams but had the best sleep I had had in over a year. Because of the medication's sedative effect, it did calm me and helped me to sleep, which was exactly what I needed. Once I was able to sleep, it was easier for me to deal with the anxiety attacks - which were not as severe after that. I did have to slowly decrease the dosage, and now take 15mg one night and 30 mg the next. I can honestly say that Mirtazapine saved my life. No other antidepressant/anti-medication helped, and I tried a lot."

For Anxiety "I have been on this med for 10 years. I was severely underweight, had severe PTSD and anxiety from the military. I was lucky to sleep 5-7 hours a week. The only side effects I have experienced were weight gain (which I NEEDED) and sleep. I can take it anytime during the day or night, and the sleep doesn't hit me like it did in the beginning. It keeps my mood very even, and I don't have ups and downs. I have gone without it before for several days and other than sleeping, I had no withdrawal symptoms. Please remember that every medicine affects each person differently. After 10 years of taking this med, it still works, and I have no intentions of ever coming off of it. I have recommended this med to several people, and they have had similar experiences. I hope this helps. Get the relief you deserve and need."

For Depression "This mirtazapine medicine is amazing. It did greatly for my anxiety and depression, no more fuzzy brain. I was thinking that no medication is available in this world to cure my mental illness. I had tried every SSRI, SNRI, and benzodiazepine, but they did nothing for my disorder, rather, they gave me side effects."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I've been taking this for about a year. The sedative effects have decreased as time has passed. It gives me a huge appetite right before I go to sleep, but I can avoid it with some self-control. It also made me dizzy during the first week or two, but that has also disappeared. I have energy, focus, and humor again. It's an effective antidepressant."

For Anxiety "During a really worrying period with one of my children, I found I couldn't sleep and would lie awake with a pounding heart and shaking. This meant I felt terrible during the day, and it just got worse and worse. I eventually was referred to a psychiatrist who prescribed Mirtazapine 15mg. Well, the first night I slept all night! I was very groggy in the morning. Gradually, the grogginess lessened. I found that because I was getting a good night's restful sleep, I started to improve. It really was like a miracle for me. I have been on it now for about 18 months, the family crisis is over, and I want to get off now if I can. So, I have started taking just 7.5mg, will see how I go with that for a while, then hopefully stop altogether."

For Anxiety "I have been taking mirtazapine for 4 weeks after a terrible 6 years on sertraline. I was prescribed it for low mood and sleep problems. Let me just say... wow. I have slept every night... quickly. I take it about 8:30 every night... I feel myself actually winding down... for the first time in years I'm ready for bed and sleep before midnight! I'm sort of in disbelief with it. I feel less angry... mornings are easier getting my lil boy to school. I am possibly ADHD, so I do get big bouts of hype in the daytime, but unlike before, they don't wipe me out, and I can continue my evening feeling like a real person. I feel like I'm becoming a better mum as I've regained some sort of control over me... Early days yet, but I feel hopeful. Wooooohoo."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I’m on my 8th day since I started taking half of a 30mg pill before I go to sleep every day. It helps me have a very good night's sleep, has enhanced my appetite, and is helping me cope and deal with the hard situation I’m facing. I am satisfied with the results so far although I feel sleepy all day long."

For Anxiety "I got put on Mirtazapine 15mg about 28/29 days ago. These are the first antidepressants I have ever been on, but I have also been on propranolol before, and it did not help. So I was really scared about trying these, and honestly I can say it’s helped a lot so far. I have anxiety disorder and panic disorder. I could never normally even go in a car for about 15 minutes without getting panicky, as I had my first panic attack in a car. The other day, I was in one for about 2 hours straight, and I was okay. I never used to go out with friends or family, as I was scared I was going to have a panic attack. And now I have been out with friends and family so much in the last month. So if you're thinking about taking these but you're not sure, please give them a try, as they've really helped so far. I haven't gained any weight yet either, just be careful about eating so much as I have been craving a lot."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I had been taking Remeron for about 6 months. I am 23 years of age and have had sleep problems my whole life. For 6 months, my life was great. Everything seemed just perfect. 2 months ago, I decided to stop taking it cold turkey. BAD idea. Within the last month, the side effects began to kick in. Extreme anxiety, anger, sleeplessness, overall feeling of worthlessness came upon me. It was absolutely terrible! Today, my doctor put me back on the medicine and tonight I'll be taking it again. I am so excited to see what lies ahead. If you take Remeron, PLEASE do not quit taking it cold turkey on your own. Seek a doctor's advice."

For Depression "Taking mirtazapine also for major panic disorder and PTSD, major depressive disorder for over a decade, have tried 6-7 different antidepressants. On the mirtazapine I am significantly happier, panic attacks decreased to 1 every month if not every other month, or every few months, and even when I'm on my cycle. Panic disorder and depression were incredibly debilitating, so I didn't sleep at all since. When I was put on this, I am able to sleep through peacefully every night fully through to each morning. I highly recommend taking this with a snack or food if you have a sensitive stomach as this may cause nausea. First few weeks, had a hard time waking up every morning, irritable for the first few months. I eat more on this medication, but it's fine with me. This medication is not a cure-all, I still have my bad days here and there, but my good days override my bad ones. Have faith, stay on the medication for a bit. I wish you all the best, support and love if you are taking this and it is hard for you. You got this."

For Insomnia "Yeah, I take mirtazapine for depression. It knocks me out every night (my dose is 45mg), but all night my brain is racing with weird dreams. I wake up, it feels like I haven't slept at all. I can sleep for 12 hours + easily and feel like rubbish when I get out of bed. I don't know if it's done anything for my depression/anxiety because I've been on them for a while. I take them with 30mg of diazepam a day. Yeah, I'm a total zombie. I always used to be slim, now I'm really bloated. I think they make you crave sugar. I regret starting taking them, definitely. Stay away if you can."
