Mirtazapine for Depression "I have suffered from severe disabling anxiety and depression for over a year now. I'm a paramedic and father of 2 children and it greatly affected my ability to work, or even go to work, and also my ability to enjoy my children when I had them. Lost 30-40 lbs. After trying every SSRI on the market for 4 weeks and finally developing suicidal thoughts, I checked myself into a hospital. Within 4 days of starting Remeron, depression was completely relieved. Still have anxiety at times, no panic attacks. VERY FEW SIDE EFFECTS. Had sweating the first 2 days, that's it. GREAT MEDICINE FOR ME!! I'm eating again and feeling great!"

Mirtazapine for Depression "I was on 7.5 for a few months after deaths in the family. Remeron works WELL. No side effects except it being hard to wake up, hence coffee. EXERCISE & LIMIT CARBS while on it. Many people say it’s impossible to come off Remeron. It’s Not. Yes it’s not easy, but it’s doable. If you do a slow, gradual taper over several weeks or months, depending on your specific situation, you will be off no problem. I’ve been off for about a week now, and I tapered over 2 months more or less, to the point of taking micro doses (a tiny crumb of a pill) in the final days. Make sure to have the natural calming agents: Fish oil, Magnesium Glycinate, Ashwagandha, CBD oil, Melatonin, GABA, Chamomile tea, & Vitamin C. Have a good healthy diet with organic foods, exercise daily, and meditate before going to bed. The people that struggle coming off came off too fast, or tried cold turkey. If you have bad insomnia and need temporary (weeks/months) help sleeping, this is a VERY GOOD drug."

For Anxiety "I’m taking 30mg of mirtazapine with 150mg venlafaxine. (Started 11 Jan) Sleep is better, but it has completely set my nerves on edge. Like you jump out of your skin when anyone comes behind you, or the phone rings. Has anyone else experienced this?"

For Insomnia "Wow, this med Remeron is a lifesaver for me. The sleep is deep and restorative. My Dr had me take 7.5 mg and then after a week, upped it to 15 mg. Even 7.5 mg was a bit too much, so I'm cutting a 15 mg tablet into quarters. Finally, something that works for my insomnia. Make sure you take it early enough so you can get at least 8 hours. The first night I slept for 11.5 hours and could have slept longer. That's why I'm cutting the 7.5 mg in half to see how that works for me."

For Anxiety "I love Mirtazapine, the best anti-d out. I take it for anxiety/insomnia. I can sleep. I cannot believe it. This drug has been the best sleep aid I've ever had. You won't get a benzo feel, but if you truly have troubles falling asleep and staying asleep, give it a go and I promise you will sleep."

For Anxiety "I have been on 15mg of Mirtazapine for 8 weeks now with no major side effects. The amount of panic attacks and anxiety I experience has been reduced significantly and I also now have the energy during the day to be active. When I do begin to spiral into anxious thoughts, I am now much more able to pull myself out of these thoughts and distract myself. Before this, it was not possible. However, I should note, I also made significant lifestyle changes such as better diet, more exercise, and reading, which I believe have also had a large effect on my mood and mental health. The medicine enabled me to make and maintain these changes."

For Insomnia "I have been on 15mg at bedtime for 10 years. I take this with 10 mg of Lexapro. I tried countless medications to help with crippling GAD. I was not able to sleep, lost a lot of weight, cried all the time. It was a horrible year and a half. I am 60 and have been this for 10 years. It is true all meds work differently on everyone. Just don't give up hope finding a combination that works. You will find it! It also helps to find a support group if you can so you know you are not alone. Never think for a moment God has abandoned you. You will be able to help someone and bring hope to someone else. It is so hard but keep trying to find what works for you."

For Anxiety "This drug worked extremely well for me. I am hypersensitive to meds, which had prevented me from trying anything earlier. I also prefer to try natural medicines. My husband was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma and ended up in the ICU, where he was on death’s doorstep. After this, I ended up with severe anxiety and panic attacks. No natural medicine was helping, and I needed desperate help as I was looking after my husband. I requested Mirtazapine from my GP as I had been on it once before many years ago. I only take 1/8th of a 30 mg tablet (3.75 mg). Upon taking it in the evening, I went into a very deep sleep and woke the next morning without anxiety and feeling quite strong and resolute. I have been that way ever since and am now able to function normally and make rational decisions without being too emotional. This medicine has been a godsend to myself and my husband. Hopefully, my message will help somebody else."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I NEVER REALIZED HOW BAD I WAS UNTIL I STARTED FEELING GOOD AGAIN!! Remeron has changed my life. I had anxiety and depression, and I had tried Zoloft, Buspar, Wellbutrin, and am on Lexapro still. Some of my worst anxiety symptoms were nausea, lack of appetite, and vivid dreams. I am currently on Lexapro 15 mg with 7.5 mg Remeron that I started a little over a week ago. I was scared to try it because I am sensitive to medication changes, but the first night I slept amazingly, fell asleep easily, and woke up with a quiet mind. I still had vivid dreams, but I did not have an anxiety-producing reaction. I was scared I would never find an answer to my anxiety disorder, which resulted in depression as well. Highly recommended if dealing with insomnia, vivid dreams, and lack of appetite. I did not have any weight gain but did have food cravings for the first day or so, but other than that, this drug was side effect-free. The weight has finally been lifted off my shoulders, and the mind is much quieter."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I'm a 43-year-old woman and I've been on 30mg Remeron for over 10 years now. It was prescribed for major depression and generalized anxiety disorder. I was NOT sleeping at all. When I first started taking it, I was a walking zombie for about 2-3 months (got some much-needed sleep), however, after that, it's like someone opened a window in a dark room. I was feeling 80% normal (prior to taking it, I was in the negative). I'll take 80% any day. You should take it an hour or so before bedtime because it has a huge sedative effect. Take care in the beginning because it's potent to begin with. It takes time for it to start really working, so don't be put off by the zombie state, it does go away."

For Anxiety "I was diagnosed with GAD about 10 years ago along with depression and panic attacks. I was prescribed Zoloft, and it helps with depression but not my anxiety. I have a real hard time sleeping too. So I decided to see a new psychiatrist, and she prescribed mirtazapine 7.5 right before sleep. I started taking it and immediately noticed a quiet difference in my sleep. It doesn't knock me out like other medications did, it's like a relaxing feeling. After about a month, I started noticing the want to talk more at work and to do more around the house. I was feeling more like myself. So, it helps with my anxiety too, a bonus. I urge you to try it and see if it helps. I thought I had tried everything out there."

For Depression "I've taken Mirtazapine (30 mg) in the orodispersible version for severe depression with insomnia and other disorders. This medication really helped me out, it has literally saved me. I'm a whole different person after the cure with it. No side effects on me. I recommend taking it in the evening if possible because this antidepressant has very strong antihistamine properties (I no longer had allergic rhinitis or urticaria from pollen and dust), so it leads to marked sleepiness. For this reason, it is useful in case of insomnia. My overall opinion is excellent, it pulled me out of a very bad situation of inner suffering that I thought was unfortunately chronic over time. I have not had any withdrawal symptoms after discontinuation. This antidepressant does not affect neither the sexual drive nor the sexual function."

Mirtazapine for Depression "My main problem is a pretty bad insomnia/anxiety. I tried several natural products over the last 3 years (melatonin, Valerian root, Tea, GABA, Magnesium, etc.) as well as using good sleeping habits. I just couldn't support the lack of sleep anymore (hundreds of nights without sleeping in the last year) so my GP prescribed me with Zopiclone & Trazodone. It didn't work, and my anxiety went pretty bad. I finally pushed my GP to prescribe Remeron. After one week, I regained my sleeping cycle at 15mg. Little to no side effects for me except I feel a bit sleepy until 10 AM. Really mild antidepressant, far from SSRI's really bad side & withdrawal effects. Try it without fear."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I was taking mirtazapine for around a year and had I been in a better space I would have gotten off it as soon as I realized it was causing certain effects on me. Minor side effects: sluggishness, major weight gain. I was prescribed this medication due to having poor sleep, but it made me have vivid awful dreams - sleep paralysis multiple times a night. I used to sleep for 14+ hours, usually in the day due to being worried about falling asleep for the nightmares. It caused me to miss lots of university - I was so tired and drowsy I could not physically get up. I wish I had been able to understand the effect it was having on my body and stop them sooner. I was severely suicidal. I made plans almost daily, even walking to the shop I thought about walking in front of buses. It was a truly awful time in my life, made worse by a medication which did not suit me. I’m glad it has worked for some, but if anyone I knew personally were to tell me they were taking it, I would advise them not to."

For Anxiety "I have been on this med mirtazapine for 11 days. I have anxiety, panic attacks, and PTSD. I have had very little anxiety and no panic attacks. I am on 7.5mg. I also suffer from health anxiety. It has also taken the edge off that. The only thing I don’t like is I am tired almost all day, but I will take that over panic attacks any day."

Mirtazapine for Depression "Probably the best antidepressant I've taken in terms of overall effect and side effects (minimal side effects). Also, I noted the improvement in days, vs weeks for SSRI/SNRI's. It's not like being hit by a dose of Ritalin but just was a general sense of wanting to get back in the game, feeling ok, but not 'locked in' - still have a good range of emotions."

For Insomnia "I've had very severe insomnia for over 35 years. I have tried many, many prescription and over-the-counter pills, as well as CBT, a wide range of alternative treatments e.g., hypnotherapy and homeopathy. I was prescribed Mirtazapine 2 years ago (no idea why it wasn't prescribed before), and it's actually working. It's not perfect. I still have lots of nights of poor sleep, but often I feel normal and capable of facing the day, and that's amazing for me. I am not depressed, not overweight, and have an otherwise happy life. Mirtazapine, I love you."

For Anxiety "This antidepressant is something else. It has changed my life for the good. I finally found a medication that actually works for me. Anxiety gone within a few days, sleep is blissful, you might gain a few pounds but nothing you can't manage. The hidden reason why this is the best medication = 0 side effects. Literally. No emotional numbness, no sexual side effects, no excessive sweating. It has been a life changer. I take 7.5/15mg before bed and sometimes 30mg in the morning if I need energy. Fantastic medication. Also cheap!"

For Insomnia "I’ve had insomnia and GAD my whole life. I remember my first sleepover at 5 years old - I didn’t sleep a wink. I’ve tried lots of meds over the years and to some extent I’ve had success with high doses of melatonin, benzos, and doxylamine, however these drugs are not good for you if you use them daily so I always felt guilty. Finally I went to my GP for extreme fatigue and brain fog and she started me on Mirtazapine 15mg. She suggested I try just a few times a week as needed. It knocked me out cold for 10 hours straight and I was very groggy for 2 days after, and like my emotions were just numb. However, I was expecting side effects so I persisted. After a few weeks, the weirdness went away completely and I was advised by a different GP to just have it every night to let it build up in my system. I feel like a completely new person!! 36 years of nighttime hell and now I sleep 8+ hours every single night with no anxiety and wake up feeling fresh and great. Amazing!"

For Insomnia "This drug has been a lifesaver for me. I tried Ambien, Sonata, Trazodone, etc., for 15 years but came across Mirtazapine prescribed by my PCP. He gave me the 30mg tablets and, not knowing any better, I took a whole tablet my first night at Walt Disney World. I missed the next day asleep! I've used Mirtazapine for 10 years now, using only 3.75mg at night, and it still works for me. I take the 15mg tablets and cut them into 1/4 to get my dosage. The greatest thing about Mirtazapine for me at this small dose is it will still allow me to go back to sleep even after I get up 3-4 times at night to urinate. In the past, once I was awake, it was 2-3 hours before I went back to sleep and was miserable the next day. As I said, this has seriously been a miracle sleep drug for me at the low dosage."

For Anxiety "Started taking Mirtazapine December 31st because of my eating disorder that makes me picky with food and lack of appetite. My main goal was to get rid of my major anxiety. First month: nothing major happened with my anxiety. More headaches than usual. I wasn't depressed in the first place, but Mirtazapine made me feel like my life actually got more manageable and that I had more energy to do things, like study. They increased my dose every 3 weeks because I was still having anxiety. I am now on 40mg and my anxiety is better. I do, however, think it's because I have a better outlook on life. My appetite is a lot better, during these 3 months I have gained around 4kg. I never have bad eating days now so I eat regularly. About my sleeping habits: I've always been a night owl. Nowadays, if I take it around 8 PM, then I am asleep by 11:30. On the weekends I wake up around 8-10 AM on my own. I don't feel tired throughout the day."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I've taken this medication for four weeks before leaving a review. I was previously on Sertraline for four years, which helped but caused regular headaches and made sleep problems worse. Mirtazapine helped with sleep immediately after I started taking it. The first few days, I could have slept all day but soon got into a regular sleep routine. After eight to nine days, I noticed that my mood had stabilized, and within the first two weeks, I was feeling much calmer. Extreme and erratic thinking had been subdued. This may have been, in part, due to improved sleep as well as the medication itself. After three weeks, I noticed a very real difference as my 'brain fog' disappeared. This was an almost overwhelming improvement. I am 50 years old and have suffered from depression/anxiety since childhood. My education and work life have been adversely affected by a lack of concentration and 'agitated' thinking. For the first time in my life, I am able to sit at my desk and work for hours at a time."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "30mg every night for PTSD, panic disorder, and major depression. Dealing with childhood trauma like physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault from a young age. Mind doesn't race as much, don't have dangerous thoughts anymore. I still experience panic attacks, occasional chest tightness if I think about it, but panic attacks have significantly gone down to at least maybe once a month if not every other month. I have gained a few pounds. If you have a sensitive stomach, eating right before or after taking this medication else you'll feel bad waves of nausea. My parents hid panic disorder as a child and lied to me about it, so I started experiencing them much more often in high school. Have I honestly never felt better mentally. I can't say enough good things about this medication! Wait it out if you really think this will work for you. I had tried over 6 medications, this one works miracles, and my mental health is 70-75% better."
