For Bacterial Infection "This medication, along with clarithromycin and Prilosec, is awful! I’m on day 5 of fourteen :( and I’m extremely nauseous, have very bad abdominal pain, am tired, and feel very weak. I can’t eat anything because I feel so nauseous. Seriously, if you get prescribed this, be prepared to feel like you’re dying. I want to stop taking it so badly but am afraid of what it would do if I stopped taking it this early. I’m taking it for an H. pylori infection."

For Bacterial Infection "Doctors need to discuss side effects of this medication in detail before letting someone go home with it. I was prescribed a 7-day treatment, twice daily 500 mg tablets. Day 1-5... Definitely felt very tired and almost high, like I was on drugs. Somehow I continued to work every day. Increase in urination as well as the metal taste. Day 6-7 were the worst. I got the worst case of hives all over my entire body. Raised little red bumps. I wasn't too nauseous throughout the entire process because I made sure to eat bread or crackers before and after taking each pill. Also, my hair started falling out more than normal. The withdrawals were horrific. Felt like I had the flu and couldn't get out of bed for a day. It's day 9, and things are better."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I rated this medicine a 6 because I can't say it worked. I am not saying it didn't, but I never had itching or a really foul smell with BV, so if it went away (which I'm sure it did since I just took my last dose), I didn't notice a big difference. Now the side effects are really noticeable. I have never been sensitive with medication side effects, but I seemed to have gotten a lot of the 'rare' symptoms: dark urine, metallic taste, different kind of discharge (no smell), fast or skipping heartbeat, dizziness, a little disoriented (light-headed), nausea, and tired. I would not like to take this medicine again. Was prescribed 2x day for 7 days, 500 mg."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This medicine has the worst side effects. If ever needing treatment again, the gel will be the only option. No matter if you eat with, before, or after taking medication, it makes you feel absolutely horrible. I also believe it overrides your birth control if you're on it, cycle came early. Nauseous daily, tired daily, appetite loss for sure, indescribable taste left in mouth, just all around a horrible experience. 7 days of pure suffering."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Day 3 of medication and pretty much all BV symptoms are gone. Thank God!! Hopefully I'll never need this again... once was enough! Fortunately, I did not experience horrible side effects... maybe just tiredness."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I have experience with a lot of other antibiotics, but this one has been by far the worst. The taste is so bad I threw up one of my doses, and the taste doesn’t wash away with water, it lingers. It helped with the infection, but it also wiped out all the good bacteria in my gut. This isn’t unheard of from antibiotics, so I’d supplement with probiotics as well. Food doesn’t sit in my body for longer than 10 minutes, and the lack of food is giving me bad headaches, and my body is so tired."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I don’t know how effective it is because I’m only on day 6, also taking another antibiotic and Prilosec. I’m so sick, nausea, diarrhea, weak, tired. I really hope it works because I can’t take this much longer!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "After having sex with a new uncircumcised partner, I noticed the next day I had smelly urine, different-smelling discharge (not fishy, though), and tenderness in the vulva region. Doc said I had a mild case of BV. I opted to treat it with Flagyl vaginal gel, but that didn't work, and I was still symptomatic after the 5-day course. Went back for a culture, and doc said not only did I still have BV, but I also had a yeast infection. Took one Diflucan for the yeast and then started Flagyl again, but this time in pill form, not the vaginal gel. No nausea, but weirdly the pills make me feel very lethargic and a little spaced out. Also, I have a decreased appetite."

For Bacterial Infection "Had to take this for an infection where my wisdom is coming through. It got rid of the swelling, but I couldn't finish the course. I was throwing up a lot, couldn't even keep water down. Got terrible diarrhea with it as well and was constantly tired. The stomach ache that kept going from a stabbing to an aching pain and constantly lingered just made me irritable, although irritability is also another symptom. All around terrible to take."

For Diverticulitis "I was given Augmentin to treat a bad flare of diverticulitis. After 9 days, symptoms suddenly got worse. Went to the ER and was admitted to the hospital for 5 days for IV Flagyl and Ceftin. Flagyl is worse than the diverticulitis. Constant explosive diarrhea, extreme nausea, weak, tired, anxiety to the point of panic, and elevated BP. Took 5 days in the hospital and then 5 days oral once discharged. My diverticulitis pain has subsided, but the constant diarrhea makes my colon feel like it's been beaten with a baseball bat; I feel internally tender and bruised. Two days after the last dose, still have episodes of watery diarrhea and brain fog. I hate this drug, but the Augmentin didn't work, I am allergic to sulfa drugs, and there aren't many other options for diverticulitis."

Metronidazole for Trichomoniasis "This medicine works, but the taste is so bad. The second day of being on it, I started throwing up. The sickness went away, but I'm still getting major headaches, and I feel exhausted. I was prescribed 30 of them for a colon infection due to not being able to go to the bathroom, which caused the infection to spread into my stomach."

For Dental Abscess "I had a tooth abscess for months; the dentist said I need to do root canal treatment (RCT). Pulp removed, filled in medication, will be seeing my dentist again in 3 weeks to finish off the RCT. In the meantime, she prescribed me 2 antibiotics to take concurrently for 5 days: Metronidazole (Metrogyl) 400mg x 3 times; Augmentin 650mg x 2 times per day. Just started the 2nd day, so far so good. I try to eat with a full meal or at least a toast with hot chocolate. Had experienced a bit of stomach discomfort, skin rashes (comes and goes), and feeling tired/sleepy, not to the extent of nausea. Most of the abscess is gone; I hope the abscess will be completely gone before my 2nd follow-up on RCT. And avoid alcohol."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Been taking metronidazole for H. pylori, along with clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and pantoprazole. It is awful, the horrible taste remains in my mouth all day and night. Extreme tiredness and pain between my shoulder blades. I am on day 9 of 14 and don't feel like I can take it anymore. Will never do this again."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed metronidazole for 7 days, 2 times a day, to treat BV. For the BV, it worked wonders. It was gone within about 2 days. As for the side effects, it was horrendous - and I rarely experience side effects with medication. By the second day, I was awfully tired, irritable, and nauseated. I also thought I was going to pass out a few times. As soon as the side effects started going away, I had to take the next dose. It’s tolerable when you desperately want to treat BV, but beware of side effects."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I am on day 3 of this stuff after being switched from vancomycin due to a reaction I was having from it. This is the most awful medication I have ever been on. This stuff makes you feel wicked out of it. I spent all morning crying. I’ve been depressed, extremely exhausted, agitated... My bottom left eye turned pink about half an hour ago, and I’ve got no idea why?! Brain fog to the extreme, I don’t even feel like this is real life. All started from C. Diff, I can’t stress how important it is to wash your hands. I've turned into a germaphobe."

For Bacterial Infection "I'm on 400 mg three times a day and doxycycline 100 mg once a day for a week. So far, I've had some nausea, headaches, and keep getting waves of tiredness. Not good as I work the night shift, and I'm tired enough as it is. However, it is doing the trick as my infection is clearing up. Just recommend when you take them, put the water in your mouth first, then the pill, and swallow it quickly as it tastes bad."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "This is the absolute WORST antibiotic I have ever taken in my life. I have been to the ER 3 times with horrible stomach spasms, nausea, and foggy brain, and no doctor could figure out what was wrong. The latest visit was today. I have finally decided to do my own research and ended up here. *The metallic taste lasts all day long and is disgusting. *After about an hour of taking it, it's like a wave hits me, and I become dizzy, disoriented, and foggy. *I have been so tired, barely able to keep focused at work. *No appetite and no thirst. *Dark urine. *Vomiting. I have lost 8 lbs on this medication, and I am cutting it short today. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy."

For Bacterial Infection "I give it a 7 because it's the most effective for diverticulitis. Came out of the hospital last week. I had diverticulitis with perforation. I'm on day 5 of Flagyl, and honestly, I would rather be in the hospital. The nausea and stomach pain are unbearable. Even with food, I have to take Zofran to keep from vomiting. My head also hurts. I'm past exhaustion but can't sleep, and the diarrhea is awful."

For Bacterial Infection "I'm on a 7-day course, 2 times a day on Metronidazole. I felt fine the first 2 days, no side effects really. But yesterday (day 3), I could hardly eat, I was sick and dizzy, vision is a bit blurry and hard to focus. Also, thinking is slower and speech has slowed. Day 4, which I am on now, my head is fuzzy, I'm hungry, but the thought of food is making me feel worse, I can just about drink water and have been exhausted. Still feel slow and sluggish, speech is still slow and even struggling to write this! I have noticed it's working, but these do mess you about!"

For Bacterial Infection "I never have reactions with medicine, but I did with this one. From day one, I have had extreme nausea, headaches, dizziness, and exhaustion. I took 2 pills per day for five days and couldn't complete the bottle. It got to the point that I decided that it just wasn't worth it. I have reached out to my doctor to see if she can put me on different medication to treat my BV."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed this medication for BV. My prescription was to take the pill 2x a day for 7 days. It is now day 8, and I still have about 5 pills left to take. This pill has given me hell. The first pill I took had no side effects, the second gave me EXTREME nausea, and by the third pill, I found myself running to the restroom to throw up. I have limited my dosage of taking this pill (1 pill every day or every other day) because the side effects are too extreme. I am extremely tired and drowsy, and my body feels too weak and distracts me while I am working. However, the smell was gone day two after starting the treatment. To say the least, this pill works but comes with horrible side effects! Take with a big meal."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "My BV started after unprotected sex with a new man (more fool me!). My doc gave me 2g metronidazole as a single dose, which cleared up the BV, but then it came back. Twice. I wasn't having any sex at all, never douched, no semen involved. Plenty of journal articles suggest that BV can be caused by bacteria that are sexually transmitted, I think so too! My doc gave me the 7-day course of 400mg 2x a day, symptoms cleared up, got a yeast infection, that's cleared up, now everything has been better for a month, so hopefully, it's all behind me now. It was horrible! The 2g single dose didn't work and made me feel awful for 48 hours: headache, dizzy, tired, nauseous. The 400mg 2x a day for 7 was okay, I took it with food, avoided alcohol, and felt sluggish."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "Day 7 of 14 on this med, I came down with C. diff after a round of Augmentin and Biaxin 3 weeks before that. I too had nausea, but that got a little better once I could get solid food in my stomach with ginger ale and Nauzene in my pocket for the quick draw. I can't shake the weakness feeling, tired, run down, just spent. I have been unstable on my feet and confused. I can't tell if the C. diff is winning or metronidazole is winning. I hate to spend the money, but vancomycin has to be worth a shot."

For Bacterial Infection "Ok, 1st on day 3, the side effects hit me hard from the tiredness, headaches, room spinning, nausea, and dizziness. I never experienced anything like this before from taking any type of medicine ever. I'm on day 4 now, and I feel fine, but hopefully tonight I won't have another awful night like last night. If I ever get another bacterial infection, I'll just pay for the gel stuff. This med is the devil itself in clearing my infection, but the side effects are awful. Glad I only have 3 more days."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I was diagnosed with C. diff December 29th after taking amoxicillin clavulanate. I was given Flagyl 500 mg 3 times a day for 14 days. I am 8 days in and feel awful. Nauseous, loss of appetite, light-headed at times, slight headache, fatigue, but restless, no energy. Mostly nauseous in the mornings. Ended up in the hospital January 3rd and got IV fluids as I was dehydrated. Praying for a fast recovery for everyone with this. Drinking a lot of water right before and after taking the medication helps."
