For Diverticulitis "34 yr old female, 500 mg-3 x 10 days. I do think it's healing me, but I started having side effects from this from the first day I took it. Severe anxiety, dizziness, insomnia, lethargy, diarrhea, ringing in ears, hands shaking, night sweats, metal taste in mouth, couldn't focus, and was overall very irritated. By day 3 & 4, I started having severe depression and uncontrollable crying, flu-like symptoms, and by day five, I felt homicidal!! I'm currently on day 6, and luckily I missed my last dose, or else who knows what could've happened! I am going to finish out my script, but I may cut it back to just 2 a day. I'll be so glad when this is over with!"

For Diverticulitis "I was put on this medication for diverticulitis, along with Cipro. I have been taking it for 7 days. I feel like I have been hit by a truck! No energy, sick to my stomach, diarrhea, along with a feeling of never being able to get comfortable. I have 7 more days, 3 times a day, to go! I don't think I can do it! I feel absolutely miserable. Just left a message with the Dr to see what they say about stopping it."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed Flagyl 500 mg for trich and BV to be taken twice a day for 7 days. All I have to say is thank God I'm on my last day with this med. I've had horrible side effects, like constant headache, nausea, tiredness, loss of appetite, and it feels like I've been hit by a car. On the bright side, though, I no longer have a discharge or odor whatsoever. I definitely learned my lesson about having unprotected sex, that's for sure! Well, good luck on this med, it does work!"

For Dental Abscess "Taking 400 mg of this x 3 per day plus penicillin due to an infected wisdom tooth. It's definitely clearing up the infection, but I've been feeling sick, had weird dreams, the sweats, and lethargy. Pretty heavy duty, but no more toothache, so I guess it's worth it."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I may have some small side effects from metronidazole, like occasionally I'm like, damn, I'm really tired, or hmm, maybe I shouldn't eat anymore of this, but it's minimal. I had bacterial vaginitis (BV) for years, I was feeling pretty run down anyways, and it wasn't any worse. After the first dose, I immediately felt WAY better. First day, smell and discharge were gone, and my undies were dry (TMI - sorry, but what a glorious feeling). I was surprised and still anxious about the side effects that were supposedly gonna show up. They never did, and every day, though tired, I felt better and better. I separated each dose by 12 hours on the dot every day. I would eat a reasonably decent-sized meal 30-60 minutes before I took them, and okay, yeah, they taste horrid, like Buckley's, but worse, lol. I used applesauce, but I think the kiwis were way better at masking the taste, honestly. Don't be scared of them, and remember it's usually only people with bad side effects that comment, never usually the people with no side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "Within a couple days of taking Metronidazole, the infection cleared up, in that aspect, I feel 100% better! But the symptoms of the antibiotics are terrible. My entire body aches, I feel exhausted, my toes and fingers are tingling, I have no appetite, I have to force myself to eat something in order to take the medicine, bad diarrhea. I have a couple more days of this, and I can't wait to be done!"

For Diverticulitis "I have had diverticulitis attacks 2 times/year for several years and have been successful treating it with Keflex or Cipro. For whatever reason, my gastro MD added metronidazole in combo with Keflex this time. After 4 days, I'm stopping the metronidazole because of side effects. Metronidazole did not ease the diverticulitis pain faster (still took 3 days for pain to subside), and it has made me tired, lethargic to the point of not even getting dressed. Pressure in my head and severe cramps. I'm a high-energy, upbeat person, and this droopy soul doesn't suit me. I'll stick to the Cipro, change up my probiotic, and avoid Flagyl in the future."

For Diverticulitis "Been on Cipro 2x & Flagyl 3x for 7 days after diverticulitis attack. Feeling hungry but don't want to eat. Feeling lightheaded, a little nauseous at times, no energy, no ambition. Flagyl taste is disgusting. No way I was going to be able to take that 3x a day for 14 days, so I cover it with peanut butter and then swallow (just like the dogs)!! Pain was pretty much gone after a couple of days, but the hardest part is the bland diet and no or very little calcium. Think some extra spicy hummus brought this on. May have to give up the hot peppers."

For Diverticulitis "39-year-old mom of 4. On my 2nd bout of diverticulitis (1st one 7 years earlier), I was given 10 days of Flagyl & Cipro. I took them together twice a day, and then the 3rd Flagyl by itself at night. I noticed a minimal yucky taste when taking them, but by the time I had finished my water, it was usually gone. I had a metallic taste approximately 3 times total that lasted just minutes. By the last part of day 2, I was feeling better, day 3 there was no more pain. By day 4, there was some discoloration of urine - rusty colored to orange. I never ever felt anxious, nauseous, had diarrhea, or felt tired. Overall, great experience with the combo of meds!"

For Diverticulitis "Metronidazole is horrible. Was diagnosed with diverticulosis. The first day was bad, but every day I get worse. While the pain in my lower left abdomen has subsided, the medication has made me so sick I cannot even function. This is day 6 out of 10. I will call the doc tomorrow and tell them I need something else. Each day it gets worse. Feet and hands are ice cold, feel like I am going to throw up all day and night, dizzy, chills, bloated, fever, lethargic, and out of sorts. Absolutely horrible."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I am currently taking this antibiotic, I am on day five. I honestly can't wait until it is over. I am an athlete in college, and I can say that ever since taking this, it has affected my performance. I also wish I would have started this earlier because it has me extremely tired and fatigued, and this is FINALS week. I get constant headaches, an awful taste left in my mouth all day, and I don't really have much of an appetite either. I've also been having horrible abdominal pain that sometimes isn't tolerable. I really do hate the side effects, but I will go through this if it will make me better. The discharge as well as the foul smell has gone away, which is what motivates me to keep taking this. I have only two more days to go. Wish me luck!!"

For Diverticulitis "Given Cipro and Flagyl for diverticulitis. To complicate things, I take thyroid meds first thing in the morning and blood pressure meds and supplements at night. Trying to create a way to fit everything in is hard. I take both Cipro and Flagyl together in the morning but then eat breakfast with no dairy, which is hard for me. The best thing is eggs! Drink Kefir mid-morning and then Flagyl at lunch with no dairy.... Take the last Flagyl and Cipro at 8 or so, but have to wait two hours for evening meds. Pain is gone, but I feel tired, nauseous, and have a metallic taste in my mouth! Glad I am retired, as I could not do this while working."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Ok, so I didn't know what was going on. This medicine has totally changed. My side effects are nausea, lower back pain every time I stand, mouth taste blah, and tired. Oh, gas and diarrhea. I'm so glad tomorrow is my last day. The best advice I can give is to eat heavy."

For Diverticulitis "I hate this drug. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I have to take it 4 times a day for 14 days. My doctor is sadistic. I'm so nauseous I can barely breathe. Even on anti-nausea meds! I have no energy. I can't sleep. My head hurts. This feels 10x worse than the flu. But it works. It will help heal the diverticulitis. It always does. And every time it sucks."

For Bacterial Infection "I have never ever written a review on any product, but I feel the need to write this one in hopes that I will help others. I was put on metronidazole and cipro for diverticulitis, and I feel awful. My diverticulitis has improved, but I have terrible stomach and headaches, but the worst side effect is tiredness. I am exhausted beyond belief! I could fall asleep ten minutes after I get up in the morning. This exhaustion continues all day!"

For Dental Abscess "Been taking this medication for the second time, first for an abscess, then a tooth was taken out, now for dry socket, and I can't wait to finish them. I feel awful - so tired all the time, (slept all over New Year) feeling drowsy, headaches, blurred vision. Finish them tomorrow, thank goodness. I've been taking 200 mg 4 times a day for 5 days, just hope it's the end of my nightmare."

For Dental Abscess "Was prescribed 200 mg of Metronidazole 3 times a day along with 500 mg of Amoxicillin for a dental abscess. I've taken Amoxicillin several times before, and I know I have no adverse reaction, so all of the side effects must be due to the Metronidazole. Had a severe wisdom tooth infection which completely locked the right-hand side of my jaw, and was prescribed Metronidazole by the emergency dentist. Seems to be working as I'm now on day 4, and my jaw has mostly unlocked and the pain and swelling have reduced greatly, but the side effects are horrible. I'm so tired constantly and feel as if I have no motivation to do anything, which is awful at work. It's also given me anxiety, a really tight chest, and heart palpitations, which aren't helping the anxiety. I have headaches and brain fog, and my stomach definitely doesn't feel right. If possible, I would recommend requesting another form of antibiotics. They've been just about bearable for me, but I wouldn't take them again unless there was no other option."

For Trichomoniasis "I took the single 2g dose for trich yesterday. I was hesitant because of all the other reviews, but I’m also not one with hypersensitivity to meds, nor am I on any other prescription medications. I take a daily probiotic and mega B vitamin. Anyway, I took the dose after work and with a meal. The taste isn’t great, but it’s nothing to spazz about either. After a couple of hours, I felt tired and only slightly nauseous, I briefly felt like I was going to throw up (watery mouth) but didn’t. I went to bed, had vivid and odd dreams (strange listed side effect), a mild metal taste in my mouth as expected, and I have slightly darkened urine. It’s only been 24 hours, but I can tell the major symptoms are starting to go away. Take with food on a day off/after work and wash down the pills with some sort of juice. None of the symptoms from the meds are as bad as having trich or BV, so I highly recommend!"

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I have been prescribed metronidazole for 14 days for PID not related to STD. I am on my day 4, and I have to say, I don’t know how I will do 14 days. I am feeling really sick, insomnia has hit me hard, exhaustion, metal taste, cold sweats. I wonder if I can reduce the dosage or call my GP and see if he can swap it with something else."

For Diverticulitis "After 7 days suffering lower left abdominal pain (1st time), I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. I am 63. I was prescribed Metronidazole 400 mg - 1 tablet 3 times daily - along with 500 mg Keflex (Cefalexin) - same daily dosage. I took both for 7 days as prescribed. Very relieved to be free of the pain. Suffered dizzy spells, extreme tiredness, and felt very unwell. Stopped taking the meds 2 weeks ago. No pain, but still have not returned to my usual self. Still very tired and not quite 'real' and have the odd dizzy spell. Wonder if I will return to normal? I am also wheat and gluten intolerant - breakfast cereals are not something I can eat. Eating fiber in the form of fruit - particularly pears and apples - helps me, as does yogurt and milk."

For Diverticulitis "Have taken metronidazole several times over the past 20 years for diverticulitis, and it works. The side effects are not pleasant. Metallic taste in the mouth, lethargy, not sleeping, changes the taste of everything consumed. But it certainly works at getting rid of the infection. To me, the side effects are a doddle after having so much pain, discomfort, and about 20 bowel movements a day, as no other antibiotic works for my diverticulitis."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "There are worse things than death. This is one of them. I am NEVER sick. Epitome of good health. Took clindamycin for tooth infection. Contracted C. diff. Horrible. This medication is like chemo. On my 5th day of 14 of 3 500 mg pills per day. 20 times a day to the restroom has subsided. Side effects are excruciating. Weak, headaches, fever, metallic taste, no appetite, cramps, bloated, dark urine, lethargy, depressed, etc. There has to be a better way. I am so tired of this. Week 3 of my summer ruined and gone. Big Pharma should try the drugs on management instead of the innocent animals that have died."

For Bacterial Infection "I never write reviews, but after seeing everyone else's experience, I thought I would have to share mine. I was taking these for BV, which I had for a while as I was too embarrassed to go to the doctors. They work wonders on getting rid of the BV. Around day 5-6, I was suddenly hit with cold/flu-like symptoms. Stuffy nose, headaches, dizziness. As it's close to Christmas, I thought I had just come down with a cold. But then I started feeling nausea, exhausted, waking up throughout the night and not being able to sleep. I even had to leave work early one day because I couldn't function much! I just decided to Google the symptoms of the drug, and wow! Who knows one little thing could bring in so many side effects!"
