For Bacterial Vaginosis "Had BV and prescribed 2 pills a day for 7 days. Cannot drink alcohol for 10 days, which sucks but is worth it to be healthy again. I tried the gel before and it was messy and didn't work. This pill makes me feel nauseous, especially at nighttime. Bad headaches and tired 24/7. I can barely make myself get up and out of the house. I forgot to take 2 twice a day, so I had to take them longer than the 7 days. I think it worked, hope it is gone for good. I also have no appetite, nothing sounds good to eat. Force yourself to eat something when you take it and coat the pill before putting it in your mouth, the taste is horrible, like no pill I've ever had before. I dipped mine in random foods to avoid the taste (frosting, pudding, peanut butter is a good one)."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Extremely tired. It's much harder to get out of bed in the morning. Okay days, but once night falls, I'm practically falling asleep on the couch. Also, cannot stop eating! I have a ravenous, constant desire to eat at night. This is not normal for me, and I am sure I will gain a few lbs before this 7-day run is over. Also experiencing strangely dark urine, almost brownish. I have noticed symptoms (thin, whitish discharge, fishy smell) have begun to diminish (as of day 4), but are not gone yet. I also have itching and tenderness in the vaginal area now, possibly the start of a yeast infection, so I will get some probiotics. This medication completely sucks, but seems to be the most effective. Longest week of my life."

For Bacterial Infection "I went to the doctor, as for 2 months I was experiencing diarrhea and mushy stools up to 5 times in 2 hours. I had lower left abdominal pain near the belly button, severe bloating, gas, belching, and stomach burning, no appetite, body aches, but no fever. The doctor never ran tests except for H. pylori. No other testing. I got prescribed Ciprofloxacin 500 mg every 12 hours and Metronidazole 500 mg every 8 hours, both for 10 days. I'm on day 5, and the side effects have definitely made me feel worse: metallic taste, burning stomach, still mushy stools, dizzy, confused, slurred speech, fatigue, and no energy. I have begun to see a thin white thread-like substance in my stool. Abdominal pain has subsided. I have no diagnosis, which is somewhat unsettling to me based on these harsh meds. I've also noticed that stools now have no odor at all. I have found that a banana and half a glass of milk help with the Metronidazole, but I cannot wait to be done with this medication."

Metronidazole for Intraabdominal Infection "I read all of these reviews on the side effects of this medication. They scared me so bad because I have hurt for 2 weeks, and I didn't want to add more pain on top of that. But the only side effects I have had are tiredness and a bit of a headache. Only a few days into my 2-week dose, but hoping it fixes whatever problem I have been having with my intestines! Don't be afraid to take it like I was."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this antibiotic by my dentist for a mouth abscess, as I am unable to take penicillin. I was supposed to take it for 7 days. During the first 3 days, I felt very tired and run down, with slight nausea and bloating. Then came the bad mood swings - I was up and down like a yo-yo! On day 4, my general headache and neck pain increased hour by hour, far worse than any migraine I had suffered before. The pain and pressure were unbearable, from the base of my skull to my eyes! My partner wanted to take me to A&E because I was in so much pain. I couldn't cope anymore and couldn't finish the course, which lasted until day 5. I honestly thought my head was going to explode! This is the worst medication I have ever taken and will never touch it again. I'd like to add that I've had 3 children, so I know what pain is like."

For Bacterial Infection "DO NOT TAKE FLAGYL EVER. TAKE ALTERNATIVE DRUG. I am 19 years old and extremely healthy and active with no health issues or problems. A doctor had me taking metronidazole for 2 weeks. I was taking this medicine based off of a diagnosis that was false, but that’s besides the point. By the end of week 1, I was on my way out, and I don’t mean figuratively, I mean literally. I was experiencing tingling in my fingers and toes, a cold sensation, and my fingertips and toes turned blue. I threw up every 15 minutes for 3 days. My pee was a dark opaque brown color. My liver and kidney functions started to decrease, as well as my blood pressure. I was EXTREMELY lethargic, confused, dizzy, and my eyes were very sensitive to light. I lost 10 pounds that I couldn’t afford (100 pounds even now). I visited the EMERGENCY room three times due to the adverse side effects before they decided to take me off the medication that I didn’t need anyways. Read up on other reviews, people aren’t lying, this is a nasty drug."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Prescribed 500 mg twice daily for BV. Experience wasn't too bad the first couple of days, but then I started feeling extremely tired and had no motivation whatsoever. I also had a severely low mood that felt like a severe bout of PMS (even though it was nowhere near that time of the month). After 3 days, I noticed my hand being numb when I got out of bed; it went away throughout the day. The 4th day, same deal, except this time my arm was still numb at noon. Went to the clinic that prescribed this and they told me to stop taking it, and they said hopefully I had taken enough for my BV symptoms to be cleared up. I started taking probiotic caplets when I stopped the medication in hopes it will boost the good bacteria in the meantime."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This is my first experience with BV, and if I ever get it again, I plan on trying a different route before doing this antibiotic again because it was so rough on my body. Of course, if all else fails, I would do it again. My only BV symptom was odor. Doc prescribed me 7 days of Flagyl - 500 mg x 2 daily. The drug made my skin hot and flushed, internal prickly. I felt lethargic, with little appetite. My mouth felt tingly, and I would slur my words; itchy eyes, headaches, rapid heartbeat, inability to sleep, loss of personality... By day 2 of the pills, my odor was gone, but by day 4, the symptoms from the pills were almost too bad to finish. I started taking probiotics on day 5, and it was a complete game changer. All the symptoms were so much better. Plus, it lowers the risk of developing a yeast infection (common side effect of Flagyl). I take 2 probiotics with each one pill twice daily and two probiotics alone at lunch. I also made sure to drink electrolytes (i.e., coconut water) and eat food with each pill. Good luck!"

For Bacterial Infection "I've had a bloated gut for 8 months, and the gastro doctor can't figure it out. I'm always full and don't get hungry anymore. I've had every test in the book, and now he thinks it could be a stomach or respiratory infection... so he put me on this. Hasn't bothered me with taste or side effects, except that I'm more tired. They say to NOT drink alcohol even 3 days after you stop taking it. I'm taking 3 a day for 10 days... hope it helps. Last hope."

For Trichomoniasis "I was doing my yearly check-up. Pap results came back saying I had trich. I was completely shocked. 53 years old and no sexual partner for almost 2 years. But I was told I can also get it from unclean toilets. I had no symptoms, but I had been without my meds for a year, type II. I pee a lot, like every 2 hours. A yeast infection came to mind. Anyway, day 3 of 7, twice a day. The taste is bad, I felt tired at times."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "It worked and did the job it needed, but after a week of taking 2 a day, my body ached all over, my arms hurt to bend over in agony, and I felt so tired no matter how much I slept. Also took along with ofloxacin and can't wait to be over with this."

For Bone infection "Post wisdom tooth extraction - infection in bone in jaw (ouch!). My face was up like a balloon - these nasty tasting pills took swelling down in 8 hours and pain gone completely in 24 hrs. Miracle pills for me. Dentist wanted to give me amoxicillin, which I am allergic to as sensitive to most drugs. These pills make me tired a little, but in my health, I have not felt this good for years - have a feeling they might be treating an underlying nasty such as a yeast infection that was making me feel rubbish. One upside of a tooth extraction."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed 3 400 mg tablets a day orally for a week. I am now on my 7th day, and the only symptoms I experienced were tiredness on one day, but that may have been from the medication. For women who are worried about nausea and vomiting, I think the reason I did not experience that was because I never missed a dose when I didn't eat with a substantial amount of food close to a meal. Make sure you eat when you take it and not just a snack! Also try to regulate the times you take them every day, try to make it around the same time. The smell went away about day 3! Hope you all get treated and your issue resolves!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Lord, where should I begin with this medication... was told to take 2 pills for 7 days. I am on day 7, and I am so happy it is almost over! Since day 1, I have had major side effects... the tiredness is the worst. I literally laid in bed for 2 days, no motivation to even move, and that is not like me. Day 3, I started noticing a bad taste in my mouth and really dark urine. The pill definitely works, it is the side effects that are horrible. Side effects: cramping, headache, tiredness, metal taste in my mouth, I experienced some confusion and extreme stomachache, and dry mouth constantly... take with caution, please."

For Trichomoniasis "I'm on the one-time 2000 mg dose, and the taste is bad, but I had just bought garlic hummus, so I quickly popped a couple of pita slices caked with hummus in my mouth, and the taste was gone. Hummus is amazing. It's been 15 minutes since I've taken it, and I'm feeling a little tired, but I timed it so I can't go straight to sleep and hopefully wake up symptom-free!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "So I have suffered from BV for a couple of years now - without even knowing! I have noticed over the last few years that my scent had gotten really strong, and I automatically thought it was normal, but I was very, very self-conscious of it! I finally started googling it, and lo and behold... BV showed up everywhere! For me, it was strictly scent, I had no other symptoms. I am married with 2 children and only have sex with my husband. I finally went to the doctor, and within a day of 500 mg x 2 daily, I noticed a HUGE difference, and it feels wonderful. However, I absolutely hate the side effects of this drug. Oh, so tired the third day in (slept all afternoon), the nauseousness and metallic taste in my mouth is incredible, but I would take it again!"

Metronidazole for Crohn's Disease, Active "Been taking this medicine in pill form since I left the hospital for 9 days now, 3 times a day. I recommend eating with it. I feel incredibly listless and tired from it. However, at night, I don't actually sleep really well. I also have major constipation. Not sure if this is the culprit as I am taking a couple of other medications as well. I think it is a side effect. You've been forewarned."

For Dental Abscess "I started taking this almost 4 days ago for a dental cyst triggering infection/abscess. I can’t even lift my head off the pillow in the morning to get up with my teen daughter for school. I feel so lethargic, which I wasn’t before starting them. I feel so awful, my stomach is giving me excessive hunger pangs, which I know stomach issues are a listed side effect. I also had pain in what I feel might be the right kidney and keep drinking loads of water as recommended. I suffered from heartburn too, plus headaches. However, my mouth feels better."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I started this medication about a week ago today. It is my last day, thank God. Horrible experience. BV went away within the first three days, however, I felt extremely tired and nauseated all the time. I also have had diarrhea since I started. My anus hurts, to be honest, almost like it's about to fall out (sorry for the gross details). Honestly, I'd never take it again and would ask for another way of treating BV, God forbid I ever get it again. Oh yeah, and it has given me a yeast infection, I am almost sure of it. I almost didn't make it... I guess it's different for everyone, but I felt like I was going to die most days. Hope this helps."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have been on Metronidazole 500 mg, 2x a day for 5 days, and every day I have had an insanely painful headache, lethargy, hard time concentrating, and lack of appetite. My doctor did say that headaches are common, and there is a cream form, but I have decided to just fight through the side effects of the pill. My bacterial infection did clear up, and I saw signs of it clearing up within a day. It does help to take the pill on a full stomach and drink a lot of water!"

For Giardiasis "Caught giardia from our new kitten that was spreading her feces everywhere. Vet lab confirmed she had it, so my case is so far presumptive. Socialized health care in Canada means I won't get the actual results of my stool sample for up to 5 days. I'm on day 4 of 7 of metronidazole (500 mg x 2/day) of metronidazole and feeling a little better, I suppose... definitely got worse before getting better. Still, I'm having mental fog, no energy and tired, headaches, very nauseous, and depressed. Still having diarrhea, but it's not explosive like when my symptoms started. It's an awful drug. I really hope it's working."

For Bacterial Infection "Absolutely awful experience. Had 4 x 500 mg metronidazole tablets to take at once. Wish I hadn't bothered. Felt sick, migraines, tired, anxious, depressed ever since. Can't cope with the headaches. It feels like my head is about to explode. This medicine needs withdrawing from the market."

For Bacterial Infection "This medication, along with clarithromycin and Prilosec, is awful! I’m on day 5 of fourteen :( and I’m extremely nauseous, have very bad abdominal pain, am tired, and feel very weak. I can’t eat anything because I feel so nauseous. Seriously, if you get prescribed this, be prepared to feel like you’re dying. I want to stop taking it so badly but am afraid of what it would do if I stopped taking it this early. I’m taking it for an H. pylori infection."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis after having cold coagulation following an abnormal smear. I had a bad odor and swelling of the abdomen. My doctor prescribed me metronidazole 400 mg twice a day, as well as co-amoxiclav 500/125 mg three times a day. I found after taking the first few doses I felt quite drowsy and tired, and I expected this, as metronidazole is such a strong antibiotic. I felt a loss of appetite but carried on eating as normal and taking the tablets while eating. Once I was on the second day, I started to feel quite nauseous but soon found this to be if I allowed myself to get hungry, so definitely take this tablet with food! The odor was gone by day 3 and so did the side effects! A wonder drug! :-)"
