For Bacterial Infection "I've used this before with no problems, but this time-wow. It definitely gets rid of BV, but the side effects are awful. First, it tastes terrible. My taste has been off all week. I feel nauseated all the time, have diarrhea, and feel depressed. And I'm so tired. I had one pill left, and I will not take it. Hopefully, next time I can be prescribed something different."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Before I started this medicine, I was so worried because of all the reviews about bad side effects. I can honestly say I did not have a bad experience at all. I was on 500 mg twice a day for 7 days. The 2nd day I was on it, I had very slight nausea in the evening, but I started watching T.V., and when the show was over, my nausea was gone. The 3rd day, I had some wine, and I was on my 2nd glass when I remembered I'm not supposed to drink while on Flagyl. I just finished my last dose and haven't experienced any more nausea or anything. I've been lethargic the last 2 days, but that may be due to getting my period. Not everyone has a bad reaction!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I have really bad headaches taking this, and it's only my second day on this. I also feel very, very tired and have a heavy and foggy head. I feel dizzy as well. I feel a little sick, but not too bad, and I have a funny taste in my mouth. I have another 8 days of taking this and just hope I don't feel worse, or I might have to stop. I also have stabbing pains in my belly, which I never had before."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I went on a holiday to Thailand and developed a bloated stomach with wind and later diarrhea. The doctor prescribed Flagyl to kill any bugs in the intestine. We know that in these countries it is rather easy to get a bug from foods. After many trips, I finally got a Bangkok belly. After taking 400 mg three times a day, I felt some relief the next day. Felt good. Then the next day, I woke up feeling terrible. I had sneezing, a runny nose, a feeling of tightness in the nose (harder to breathe), asthma, dry lips, rashes on the hands, body aches, lack of appetite, feeling lethargic and tired, along with wind in the stomach and slight nausea. Diarrhea was almost gone. Most side effects were happening to me on the fourth day."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Pathetic medicine. I was prescribed Flagyl 400 mg, 3 times a day for 3 days. After day one, I felt the side effects immediately. Tiredness, fatigue, headaches, and increased sensitivity being the major ones. The worst part is, after completing my course, I'm still feeling the side effects. Sensitivity to light has increased along with dizziness and fatigue!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "So I started taking this metronidazole yesterday at a dose of 500 mg twice a day for 7 days for bacterial vaginitis. I have had 3 doses so far, and I feel like garbage. I'm so nauseated, and my back is hurting, and I feel exhausted. I don't think I'm going to be able to take tonight's dose. Tomorrow I'm calling the doc and see if I can get something else. The good news is my discharge has stopped, and I feel better down below now, but it's everything else. I have never felt so bad from an antibiotic in my life."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this for an unspecified vaginal bacterial infection. The first day of treatment stopped my symptoms completely. (Vaginal irritation, constantly full bladder feeling, and achy, uncomfortable feeling in my uterus.) Relief lasted about two days before they reappeared with severe and increasing pelvic pain and pressure, unbelievable exhaustion, nausea, and a horrible feeling of being off and disconnected. I am exhausted, but wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep. The pain and pressure in my pelvis is unrelenting, and nothing helps whatsoever. I feel absolutely awful. It's the only thing I can focus on. Until I read the side effects and realized the drug is doing this, I was terrified that something was seriously wrong."

For Dental Abscess "I was absolutely terrified of taking this medication after reading other reviews of severe side effects as I was going on holiday with an 18-hour flight! I was prescribed these for a week due to an infection after wisdom teeth removal, and it started to bring the infection under control after around 3 days, and I fortunately did not have any noticeable side effects bar feeling a bit more tired than normal. I had one night of severe sickness, but I attributed that to jet lag/heat rather than the medication, as it was on day 7 of the treatment."

For Diverticulitis "All I know is that 2 days into this course of treatment with Flagyl and Cipro, my horrible left lower quadrant pain is gone. I do feel a little down and lethargic, but who cares? I'm able to get some things done and get through a day at work. I do have a little headache, and another medicine, Amitiza, seems to give me congestion in my head, but it helped relax the colon spasms. I am so grateful, though, because I was in horrible pain for so long and didn't know why."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I'm on Flagyl and cephalexin for diverticulitis. Today is day 4, and I feel lethargic. I was in the ER 2 days in a row for pain. Today, I'm feeling nauseous and getting diarrhea. I do not know if I can make it for ten days. (I am allergic to ciprofloxacin, penicillin, sulfa.) As soon as this is over, I'm going to the immunologist to test if, after 35 years, I can now tolerate some of the antibiotics I am allergic to because I have lung, urinary, and now this is the second bout of diverticulitis."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "So the infection cleared up in a matter of two days, but I've been dizzy, lightheaded, short of breath, coughing (I smoke every now and then, and I've been feeling it), weird appetite. If I don't drink enough water before I sleep, I wake up feeling almost hungover. Essentially, I feel weak and tired, and the pill tastes awful. Thankfully, today's the last day."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I'm taking Flagyl for what I guess is a bacterial infection, but I've been taking it for a few days, possibly even a week, and I can't really tell a difference. All I know is that I have an inflamed colon, and I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy in December. I'm taking 500 mg three times a day for 14 days, and sometimes I do miss a dose every now and again. Could this be why I haven't noticed much change? I haven't experienced any side effects aside from feeling a little tired because I always take it after a meal. The only thing I have to complain about is that it's uncoated, so it tastes pretty bad, but if you just take a mouthful of drink first, then drop the pill in, it really helps with the taste. By the way, I'm only 17 years old."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this medication twice daily for 7 days to treat BV. Like many others, I experienced the metallic mouth, but this was the least of my worries. The abdominal pain, bloating, constant nausea, loss of appetite, and acid buildup in my gut became unbearable. Initially, I contributed the tiredness and nausea to my early pregnancy, but at times the pain was more like labor. Finally, I contacted my OB, who advised probiotics to get my gut back in balance since the meds had most likely killed off the good bacteria. It's taken me the better part of 2 weeks to feel like myself again. I'd rather live with BV and never take these meds again."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Ok, so I'm 21, just so everyone knows. I'm taking this medication for 7 days at 500 mg twice a day. It's been pretty rough. The first tablet, I was so tired, sensitive to light, super sick, headache, chills that felt like a fever, sweating, no sleep. The second and third day, all the crazy symptoms went away, and now I'm seeing dark urine (which is gone if I drink more water than usual), a horrible metallic taste in my mouth, no appetite, I'm super bloated (the kind that you can't suck in, if you know what I mean it's almost like my stomach is swollen), and I feel so nauseous, it's awful. These are the symptoms I have right now, and they're honestly awful. I also still get cold at night. I'm on day 3 and I literally can't wait to finish this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "TLDR: Cleared up infection but rocked me with pretty bad side effects. I was on Metronidazole for 5 days, three tablets a day at a 400 mg strength for a tooth infection. The dentist prescribed me this as I am allergic to penicillin. Day 1 - 2: Felt alright, tooth pain went away pretty quickly. But from Day 3 onwards, I developed some pretty bad flu-like symptoms: fever, flushing, nausea, fatigue, tiredness, and my entire body was aching. By day 5, my lower back was in a fair amount of pain, and I had to take cold showers and paracetamol to control the fever and sweats."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I was diagnosed with C. diff about a week ago. They think I got it from taking Cefdinir for acne for way too long. I don’t know if this drug is working for me. I guess I’m not going to the bathroom as much as before, but I’m very constipated and I have absolutely no appetite. Then when I do eat, my stomach pays for it, so I try to refrain from eating altogether. Today is day 6 on the meds, and I’m experiencing severe pain when urinating like I have never felt that before!! :( It's awful. I’m beginning to feel lifeless. I have no energy to do anything, and that’s because I have to return back to work in two days. I thought medicine is supposed to make you feel better with time, not worse. I really hope these symptoms start to subside."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Had to take this for a week straight, 2x a day. Makes your body super tired, diarrhea, loss of appetite, slightly irritable, dry mouth, upset stomach (cramps), also back and thigh pain. All in all, it seems to be working on my lady parts. Good luck to anyone else!"

For Dental Abscess "Gum abscess, new dentist prescribed metronidazole. First day, I took three as was advised. Sweating, feeling tired, depressed, and irritable, thought this was just part of the process after a bad tooth and gum issue. Day two, after another sleepless night, and the symptoms got worse. Severe swelling to the face, up around the eyes, and also very little pain relief. Thought it was part of the process, but by God, it was miserable. Not hungry, unsettled bowels, etc. This pain did not let you sit down, I had to walk around the house for three hours after taking this medication. Again, I thought it was part of the process. Another sleepless night. (I was taking paracetamol and anti-inflammatories too.) Day three, stopped, still in pain."

For Dental Abscess "I have been taking 400 mg metronidazole three times a day alongside 250 mg amoxicillin three times a day for a tooth infection. Day four and pain is reduced but not gone, but I feel so incredibly poorly. I look gray, feel sick all day long, awful headache, chesty cough (not sure if that’s just coincided with a cold), have no energy, and can’t eat. Dry mouth with horrific metallic taste too."
