For Bacterial Infection "DO NOT TAKE FLAGYL EVER. TAKE ALTERNATIVE DRUG. I am 19 years old and extremely healthy and active with no health issues or problems. A doctor had me taking metronidazole for 2 weeks. I was taking this medicine based off of a diagnosis that was false, but that’s besides the point. By the end of week 1, I was on my way out, and I don’t mean figuratively, I mean literally. I was experiencing tingling in my fingers and toes, a cold sensation, and my fingertips and toes turned blue. I threw up every 15 minutes for 3 days. My pee was a dark opaque brown color. My liver and kidney functions started to decrease, as well as my blood pressure. I was EXTREMELY lethargic, confused, dizzy, and my eyes were very sensitive to light. I lost 10 pounds that I couldn’t afford (100 pounds even now). I visited the EMERGENCY room three times due to the adverse side effects before they decided to take me off the medication that I didn’t need anyways. Read up on other reviews, people aren’t lying, this is a nasty drug."

For Bacterial Infection "Started on Metronidazole 400 mg 3 times a day to treat PID/BV. Since taking this, my original stomach pressure, pains, and fever have gone. However, I am now feeling dizzy, nauseous, and have a sore tongue. Started it on Tuesday, so only have 2 more days to go, thank goodness!! Has anyone else experienced the dizziness and nausea?"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "People keep saying it makes them dizzy/nauseous, however, it's probably because they don't eat a full meal or had alcohol or mouthwash. The pill can only work with a full belly or half full, not empty, otherwise, you will feel sick. As for alcohol, I took one glass of vodka and Red Bull, and the next morning, I felt really bad. If you wrap the pill in a tiny piece of bread, it will easily get swallowed without tasting, this is a handy trick for those who struggle to swallow pills in one instance. I have taken METRO for 3 years, probably once every 4 months, as my bacterial vaginitis is reoccurring, and it's good, better to have medication go on the inside than directly put on the vagina, I think!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Wow! This medicine is HORRRRRRIBLE. I’ve had so many side effects taking this for 7 days: diarrhea, dizziness, feeling weak, abdominal pain. I’ve been off for 3 days now, and my poop isn’t back to normal. I have this discharge from hell. I visited my primary care provider today, and she told me to wait it out to get back to normal. This is after I ran to the ER and told them the same thing. Nobody can help me at this point. I’ll NEVER take this medicine again in my life. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Fingers crossed I get better soon. *sigh*"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This drug cleared the BV immediately, so in that sense, it's highly effective. However, my side effects have been so awful that I had to lower the rating by a lot. In 4 days on this medication, I've been increasingly nauseous, dizzy, disoriented, and excessively sleepy. Haven't wanted to get out of bed in days. Had to call my doc and be switched to the gel, which is unpleasant but less intrusive on my life. Prescribed dosage was 500 mg (LARGE) tablets twice daily, which sounds standard. But I am 5'3" and 106 lbs, and I'm wondering if others who have had issues with this medication are also smaller/lighter than average and perhaps we are suffering from an overdose being given the same amount of drug as someone bigger?"

For Bacterial Infection "After taking 6 pills for two days, I feel super dizzy and weak. My arms and legs feel like jello, I had to crawl to the bathroom. The rest of the time, I am laying in bed. BP, heart rate, and oxygen are normal. Intense headache and dizziness. This drug really wipes out your mental capabilities like you’re on a roller coaster. My family doctor said to stop taking it immediately and monitor me before going to the ER."

For Dental Abscess "After having a blood blister that was black burst in my mouth by an abscessed tooth, I felt really ill. Eventually, I went to the dentist, who put me on this medicine. One thing I will say, it's very, very, very strong! And as I don't normally take medication, it knocked me out! I had broken sleep, waking up every few hours or so, tingling in my hands, very bad dizziness and nausea, constipation, coating of my tongue, anxiety, as I'm mentally ill, and very spaced out and feeling medicated. Had no choice though, either I took it or ended up in the hospital! Last day taking it today and hoping and praying the infection is cleared up."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I am a 20-year-old female who has been healthy my entire life, went on a trip to Hong Kong over the summer, and when I came home is when I experienced odd bowel movement. It wasn’t until 3 months later I found blood in my stool and vomit and immediately went to the ER and tested positive for C. diff (the doctors were so confused as to how I could contract it). I'm not sure if my trip was the cause, but it seems likely. I was prescribed Flagyl, and within 2 days my bowel movement was a bit better, but the side effects are horrible. I have constant nausea, brain fog, dizziness, headaches, panic attacks, and the stomach pain is unbearable. I am currently on day 5/10, 3 pills a day, 500 mg each. I am seeking the ER once more in hopes to find out what is really wrong because there is no way this medication is working! I have never been more sick and dependent on other people to help me even get out of bed in my entire life. All these reviews make me feel less crazy!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This is my first experience with BV - the only noticeable symptom was a change in odor. My doctor prescribed me 500 mg 2x daily of Flagyl for 7 days. By day 2, the odor went away, but I developed bad symptoms from the antibiotics - such as flushed face and upper chest, insomnia, anxiety, irritability, headache, earache (ringing in ears), dizziness, change in speech, and discoloration of urine. On day 5, I began taking probiotics (2 probiotics to 1 antibiotic ratio), and the symptoms almost completely diminished. I plan to continue taking the probiotics as a permanent part of my daily regimen in order to avoid future infections and/or develop a yeast infection. Also, make sure to eat a solid meal with each pill."

For Bacterial Infection "What a horrible medicine. Today is my 6th day of this medicine. It should be taken off the market. Always feel dizziness like an earthquake is coming. Can’t drive my car to go to work. Very upset with this medicine. Please don’t take it."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this medication for a bacterial infection. My dose was two 500 mg tablets twice a day. On my 6th day, I went in anaphylactic shock. I had noticed that I was dizzy on the second day and extremely fatigued. Apparently, I’m either allergic or one of those rare cases. Also, if you vape, quit vaping while taking this medication. Worst experience ever."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I've just finished these and felt a bit strange and dizzy. Was glad the 7 days were over! However, 3 days now since I finished them, and today I am feeling awful, terrible diarrhea and sickness, so it doesn't necessarily finish when you stop then. You still shouldn't drink alcohol for at least 2 days after stopping them!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have had several BV experiences and have taken this medication each time. It does get rid of the symptoms, and I usually never had any side effects until my recent experience of BV. The symptoms are so horrible. I have really dark urine, pelvic pain, dizziness. When I lay down, the room spins, and I feel just completely awful. But it does help get rid of it."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed this for BV. First tablet, within 15 minutes of ingesting, I felt high, confused, slow, drowsy, forgetful, and clumsy-almost felt like a dementia patient. (Wasn't nice at all.) A few hours later, I started getting intense STABBING PAIN in my back, sides, feet, hands, arms, even in my neck and private bits! The pain was so intense it made me cry out loud! I popped the second pill, and I still had the side effects from the first tablet, apart from constantly feeling like I was 360 degrees spinning and off balance on top of it all. It's been over 12 hours since I took my second pill, and the side effects are still there. As I'm sitting here writing this, I feel so out of it. I've called the GP and am waiting for a call back as I'm scared to take the 3rd pill. Don't want it getting worse."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I'm on day 3 of 7. So far, it's been terrible. As most others have said, the taste is absolutely horrific. The most bitter thing I've ever experienced in my entire life. Definitely makes you want to throw up. I have been using the peanut butter coating idea, and it most certainly works. I coat it pretty good and actually don't taste a single thing anymore. Yay!!! However, because you have to coat it so much, you may feel a slight choking sensation as it goes down, but trust me... it is so worth it. Other than the taste, I've had a lot of the side effects. Really dizzy, sick to my stomach, weak/numb-type feeling, extreme exhaustion. But it really does work in getting rid of the infection! Usually after just a couple pills."

For Bacterial Infection "My doctor prescribed metronidazole for a bacterial infection (2 pills a day for 7 days). I had to stop taking it after 5 days, as the fatigue was so bad I couldn't do anything without feeling as if I'm going to pass out. I also experienced bad headaches, stomach cramps, and dizziness. It's been 24 hours since stopping it, and still the fatigue is extreme. Calling my physician this morning. Will never take this again."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "Taking this medication for 10 days for C. diff. I am on day seven right now, and it's been horrible. 41-year-old female, had bloody and mucus and bad diarrhea. I think medicines have fixed the diarrhea and bloody mucus for now, but I am so dizzy. I feel even sicker in other ways. It's causing me major shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, confusion. Found out the hard way that even putting lotion on my face or body that has any alcohol in them will make you feel even worse on this medication."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Unfortunately, still dealing with the horrible side effects 5 months after stopping a 5-day course of this (1000 mg/day). I have severe nerve damage, can't walk or sit up since my body feels so heavy, loss of appetite, pain in hands and feet. A few days after discontinuation is when the severe dizziness started and still remains. The first month, I had severe muscle spasms all over my body, which led to muscle wasting and loss of 15 lbs. My spine and neck sway back and forth when I stand up. I strongly regret taking this medication since my life has been ruined by it."

For Bacterial Infection "Took Flagyl for 2 days until I found out there was no infection in my colon after having a CT scan. Still experiencing side effects, tingling in hands and feet (that I was having a problem with before the meds), but the meds made it worse. Dry mouth, headache, and some dizziness, and a bit of brain freeze, and I've been off of it for 3 weeks, light sensitive as well. I'm so glad I didn't have to take it the full 7 days, and pray I never have to take it again. I was also prescribed Cipro, but only took one pill because I found out it caused neuropathy and other problems, but it's possible that even that one pill added to the side effects I'm still experiencing. Seeing all the other comments makes me know I'm not crazy."

For Bacterial Infection "Prescribed this for BV infection. On the second day, I started to feel like I had the flu! Terrible stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, runny/stuffy nose, tightness in my nasal passages-making my eyes feel tight, extreme fatigue, weakness, aches, chills, and finally, headaches with dizziness! No exaggeration here (I think it affects people differently). This was some nasty stuff for me! I thought I was going to have to go back to the doctor until I read about these side effects. At one point, I felt so awful I thought I was going to have to go to the ER! Overall, I mean the BV infection IS gone, and I'm still kickin'. Lol. Best advice was to EAT something when you take the pill... chicken noodle soup & crackers was my go-to that helped!"

For Amebiasis "Worst medication I have ever had. I started off vomiting once a day, then twice a day. My hands were tingly, and my feet. My scalp went tingly too. I felt so dizzy and thought I was going to pass out. This was just awful. At first, I thought this might have been symptoms of amoeba, but it was from the antibiotic - metronidazole is a powerful drug. Unfortunately, I had all these symptoms on an island and had to return to the mainland. The more competent doctor on the mainland stopped the flagyl and prescribed dioxanide furoate. Metronidazole is used to treat the parasite, however there are also eggs associated with the parasite, and they will hatch as well. Metronidazole treats the parasite, diox treats the eggs. These will show in stool separately."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "After being prescribed these for a pelvic infection, I was worried about potential side effects. I have been taking them twice a day for just over a week now, but haven't had any sickness or nausea, I am happy to report. I have, however, noticed a metallic taste in my mouth, a bit of a numb tongue, change in taste, and the first few days I felt a tad dizzy, like I was recovering from a hangover. I have also noticed an increase in my fluid intake and bowel movements, although nothing unpleasant."

For Bacterial Infection "I took 500 mg metronidazole, 3 times a day for 10 days, a total of 30 pills to treat IBS-D (diarrhea), SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), and a possible parasite. Almost every day I had mild nausea, bloating, dizziness, fatigue, frequent urgent stools, dry mouth, and headaches (it could have also been from my anxiety about taking it). I had violent vomiting after the 4th pill and diarrhea after the 15th pill. My doctor then told me to reduce the dose to twice a day instead of three times a day, and I felt a lot better and was able to finish the dose. You must take it after a full meal to avoid nausea. I coated the pill in molasses and drank it with milk to mask the taste. I was so nervous to take it after the horrible reviews I read, but it was manageable, it just felt like I had a cold/flu for 2 weeks. However, I would not take it again, it didn’t work for me in the long run."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I got bacterial vaginosis two months in a row from the birth control I was on. The first time I took Flagyl, it worked like a charm. My infection disappeared within a few days, and I felt a lot better, no side effects or anything. This month, I got prescribed for it again at 500 mg 3 times a day for 7 days. I got two days in and got hit by a train. The nausea and dizziness from this medication forced me to call off work twice. I finally downed the dose to 2 a day and now I'm forced to eat every 2 hours to avoid the nausea. I also had to start taking probiotics to avoid the C. diff that other users got. Overall, I'd say try something else. When it was bad for me, it was like being run over by a cart on fire."
