Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Flagyl also ruined my life. I was healthy and now I have panic attacks and muscle weakness. Only took 2 days' worth, but three weeks later still feeling like someone else. Dizziness and nausea. Be careful with this."

For Diverticulitis "Suddenly, I felt horrible pain inside my colon. I went to the hospital and they did a CT scan, and the doctor diagnosed me with diverticulitis. This was 6 days back, and he prescribed ciprofloxacin and metronidazole for 10 days. By the third day, I was feeling no pain, but suddenly, I began to feel nausea, severe dizziness, irritability, severe shaking, and rapid heartbeat. I went to the ER and spent more than 7 hours there taking pain relievers, and they did many blood tests, and all were fine. The doctor advised continuing the same for a complete 10 days."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was diagnosed with SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) in July of this year. Had my first round of antibiotics in August (21 days). I'm now on my 2nd round of antibiotics, this time I’m on 500 mg of Flagyl and 875 mg of Augmentin. I’m about 2 weeks in or 14 days in, and I feel horrible. Back pain, pain in both my feet and hands. Dizziness, very fatigued. All I want to do is sleep. I had changes in my urine and stools. Went to the ER because I thought I was literally going to die. I suffer from anxiety, so this medication just makes it worse. I have a racing heart rate, and all my labs and CT of my organs came back normal, thank God. Funny how meds can fix one thing but cause all sorts of other things."

For Diverticulitis "I am prescribed metronidazole fairly frequently for recurrent diverticulitis, usually 400 mg 3 times daily for ten days, alongside co-amoxiclav 500 mg 3 times daily for ten days. Co-amoxiclav I can handle all day long, but metronidazole is just really hard work. It causes severe headaches and confusion, extreme fatigue and apathy, dizziness, slurred speech. I would be severely idiotic to even attempt to drive. I get a racing heartbeat, hot hands, gurgling stomach so loud it wakes me up, my stomach feels like it turns to stone, and then there's the nausea. Relentless, overpowering nausea worsened with movement, but no vomiting. All those disgusting, unbearable physical side effects are bad enough, but worst for me is the state of mind it creates. I honestly feel a deep depression whenever I take metronidazole. Not because of the side effects, just in general. I feel so utterly, wretchedly depressed and desolate I don't know what to do with myself. It is a horrifically dangerous drug in my opinion."

For Diverticulitis "After 7 days suffering lower left abdominal pain (1st time), I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. I am 63. I was prescribed Metronidazole 400 mg - 1 tablet 3 times daily - along with 500 mg Keflex (Cefalexin) - same daily dosage. I took both for 7 days as prescribed. Very relieved to be free of the pain. Suffered dizzy spells, extreme tiredness, and felt very unwell. Stopped taking the meds 2 weeks ago. No pain, but still have not returned to my usual self. Still very tired and not quite 'real' and have the odd dizzy spell. Wonder if I will return to normal? I am also wheat and gluten intolerant - breakfast cereals are not something I can eat. Eating fiber in the form of fruit - particularly pears and apples - helps me, as does yogurt and milk."

For Bacterial Infection "My last day on metronidazole, hooray. Am so glad I found this thread. I have felt horrible for the whole week. Took it for bacterial vaginitis, given by my OB-GYN. First two days were okay. Then had really bad diarrhea and rumbling sensations in my tummy. No appetite, dizzy, felt so sick after taking it, no appetite, and my urine was brown. I didn't want to stop the course, though, because it cleared up my infection. I just wish we were told of the side effects."

Metronidazole for Giardiasis "It was such a relief to get a diagnosis of giardiasis instead of something worse that I was happy to accept a 10-day treatment of 500 mg/3x day Flagyl. As a retired RN, I knew it could be bad, and it was! Dizziness, metallic taste in my mouth, stomach pain that differed from the one Giardia was giving me, headaches, nausea, sleep disruption, random itchy spots, foul-tasting heartburn - full range of side effects. HOWEVER, I am still so grateful to have something to get rid of my parasites after suffering with them for 3 months that I just dug in and took the 10-day treatment with gratitude. It's been rough, and now at the end of the treatment, I am focusing forward on healing my GI system and getting back to normal."

For Trichomoniasis "I was given five 400 mg metronidazole pills to take at once, along with other pills and an injection. I had major side effects, I was dizzy and had diarrhea that lasted for weeks. The symptoms decreased, but the infection did not go away. I was prescribed an additional 400 mg dose of 14 pills. I took two per day and still symptoms decrease, but the trichomoniasis infection is still persistent. Nothing seems to work for me."

For Bacterial Infection "I never write reviews, but after seeing everyone else's experience, I thought I would have to share mine. I was taking these for BV, which I had for a while as I was too embarrassed to go to the doctors. They work wonders on getting rid of the BV. Around day 5-6, I was suddenly hit with cold/flu-like symptoms. Stuffy nose, headaches, dizziness. As it's close to Christmas, I thought I had just come down with a cold. But then I started feeling nausea, exhausted, waking up throughout the night and not being able to sleep. I even had to leave work early one day because I couldn't function much! I just decided to Google the symptoms of the drug, and wow! Who knows one little thing could bring in so many side effects!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this for BV along with an oral medication for a mild yeast infection. I wasn't even having symptoms for the BV, just found out with an annual PAP, but the side effects are brutal. By day 2, headaches and dizziness. Day 3-5, extreme fatigue, weakness, major head fog, loss of appetite, and though I already suffer from depression and anxiety, this medication seemed to make it so much worse. Seeing as though I didn't experience symptoms for the BV in the first place, I'm not sure if the medication is worth the side effects. I would ask for a better option."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Took 500 mg twice a day for 2 weeks for BV, it cleared the infection, but I have had major back pain and anxiety weeks after I finished the medications. It's so horrible I can't drive some days because I get dizzy. It's been a year, and still get random back pain and random anxiety attacks. Stay away from this medication."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I've never had BV before, so when I got this medication, I was relieved, thinking it'll be gone in no time. Well, I was fine the first day I took it, with slight nausea. The second day, I felt more nauseated. This is my third day, and this morning when I took it, I was soooo dizzy heading to my classes, I thought I was going to pass out. I also felt so sick from the time I got up and worsened after I took the medication. I have been shaky all day, still feel sick and dizzy. I also have this awful taste in my mouth along with a dry mouth. I am going to continue to take it because it seems to help, but it's either too strong for me, or I am just one unlucky gal that gets the side effects."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I currently had BV, so my doctor prescribes metronidazole! 2 tablets [500MG]. I’m 25, 5'4", 130 pounds! My first time trying this medicine, and I thought I was losing my mind. I started getting sleepy throughout the day, I had a migraine for 3 days straight, and became very dizzy and nauseous and didn’t know why. I thought I was pregnant! Come to find out it’s just the metronidazole. Decided to look at reviews and found this site! Thank you, ladies! I have one more day to go, but honestly, I just want to feel normal again! It does work, but the side effects I’ll pass next time."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I had very mild symptoms of BV. Really minimal amount of discharge and only an odor after sex. I googled my symptoms and diagnosed myself with BV. I didn't want to have sex again until I got it taken care of. I went to the doctor and voila... diagnosed and RX'd Metronidazole 500mg BID. I'm only on my 2nd day of the medicine. I googled taking a probiotic (lactobacillus) alongside it (3-4 hours after you take your metronidazole) because the metronidazole could upset your bacteria/yeast balance in your body and actually cause you to get a yeast infection. So I've been taking my metronidazole and then 4 hours later I'll take a probiotic pill. I am SUPER dizzy and my tummy hurts. Not digging the side effects :-("

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "This wasn't right for me. Only was on it for 5 doses, so I don't know if it helped. I puked up the fifth dose, then got dizzy and almost passed out on the ride to the ER. It settled down after a couple of hours. Had no alcohol for the past 10 days. This likely wouldn't happen to most people. But it's got gnarly side effects if it doesn't agree with you."

For Dental Abscess "It seems to be helping the infection, but the side effects are hard to deal with. Not used to being nauseous or having any kind of side effects at all. But I have found out that smoking marijuana helps with the nausea and the dizziness. Highly recommend the drug if you have an infection. But also highly recommend having a bag of herb for the nausea. I would highly recommend smoking before you take your daily dose. It stops the nausea before it ever happens."

Metronidazole for Clostridioides difficile Infection "I have ulcerative colitis, and I tested positive for C. diff and was put on Flagyl - 500 mg 4x/day. The first 5 days I could function, although I had no appetite and was dizzy and nauseated. The last 6 days I was bedridden with nausea and vomiting, an aversion to food, dizziness, and the skin on my legs went numb. It's been a week now, and the skin on my legs is still numb, although it doesn't affect my mobility. I don't want to eat anything still, but the food doesn't come back up now. However, all the symptoms of C. diff are gone. It seems to have calmed down the UC as well. So yes, it worked very well so far, but the side effects for me were horrendous."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I have really bad headaches taking this, and it's only my second day on this. I also feel very, very tired and have a heavy and foggy head. I feel dizzy as well. I feel a little sick, but not too bad, and I have a funny taste in my mouth. I have another 8 days of taking this and just hope I don't feel worse, or I might have to stop. I also have stabbing pains in my belly, which I never had before."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Pathetic medicine. I was prescribed Flagyl 400 mg, 3 times a day for 3 days. After day one, I felt the side effects immediately. Tiredness, fatigue, headaches, and increased sensitivity being the major ones. The worst part is, after completing my course, I'm still feeling the side effects. Sensitivity to light has increased along with dizziness and fatigue!"

For Bacterial Infection "I had a root canal done and was put on metronidazole. I hope never to need to take this medication again! Normally, I deal with depression, I use medication and prayer, so I am 'normal.' I get real bad headaches once or twice a month. When I took this medication after having a root canal done, my depression got worse no matter what, headaches all day, every day and night, could not sleep, and dizziness. I will think twice before taking it again!"

For Trichomoniasis "The taste is absolutely terrible! It's so strong and disgusting! If you let it hit your tongue, you're screwed! What I do is take it with a huge glass of milk, fill your mouth up with milk, drop it in, and swallow! Sometimes it works and you don't taste anything but milk, but sometimes it floats around and hits your tongue! Besides how bad it tastes, I get super dizzy after taking this pill, almost immediately I am dizzy and nauseous with a nasty headache! Of course, it helps if you eat beforehand, but the lightheaded, dizzy feeling isn't fun at all! Feels like I have my eyes crossed, it's painful. Although the side effects are horrible, I do have to say within hours the discharge completely flushes out, the smell goes away, and you're back to norm!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have taken metronidazole in the past, but this time was given it at a 2g dose (5 * 400mg tablets). This was seven days ago, and I am still recovering from what I believe to be the side effects. I felt extremely dizzy, nauseous, lightheaded, and heavy-headed. I have been emotional for no reason, with tears every day, not being able to sleep, my mind racing at 100 mph, and just feeling restless and irritable in general. I literally felt out of my mind! I thought I was suffering from permanent mental illness, my GP told me these weren’t side effects from metronidazole, but reading other reviews, I know my GP is very, very wrong! I also experienced weakness and tingling in my arms and hands. I really hope I feel better this coming week, as I’ve had a week of not feeling normal. Nothing helps, I’ve tried extra sleep (when I was finally able to), water, exercise, prayer, everything! I experienced moments of depression and anxiety."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I've been on this medication (clarithromycin, doxycycline, and omeprazole) for nine days now to treat H. Pylori and experiencing chest pains, bloating, stomach cramps, headaches, and dizziness. Five more days of these uncomfortable side effects, and I hope it'll all be over."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Was taking clarithromycin and tinidazole 500 mg twice a day - I couldn't. I took 3 doses and stopped on the 2nd day - extreme side effects - I was crying and shaking all day, nausea, stabbing stomach pains, and diarrhea. My head was spinning, and I almost fainted. Horrible. This drug is very strong and has affected me horribly. I couldn't keep taking past the 2nd day."

For Dental Abscess "I'm currently taking both of these antibiotics for an abscess. My toothache went away within a day, and my swelling has calmed down slightly, but it's become a lot easier to talk and smile again due to the pain disappearing (I physically couldn't smile to a certain degree, it hurt too much too). Side effects: I have experienced drowsiness, dizziness, and I have been feeling lightheaded, but it also really hurts when I move my head, e.g., bending down, moving my head side to side, etc. It feels like all the blood is rushing to the side I move to. Painful anyway."
