For Bacterial Vaginosis "I got prescribed 500 mg metronidazole twice a day for 7 days for BV. By day 4, I had extreme nausea, dizziness, irritability, and trouble falling asleep. On day 5, I woke up with awful stomach cramps, got out of bed to throw up, and ended up fainting. I felt mentally out of it the whole time I was on them. It cleared the infection, though. I don't really want to experience this again. Also, the taste is god-awful."

For Bacterial Infection "After taking Flagyl for 3 days, I had nausea, dizziness, migraines, started losing vision in my right eye, and felt numb down the right side of my face, almost stroke-like. Stopped immediately and will never take it again."

Metronidazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Most horrible side effects: bitter taste in mouth even hours after administration, balance problems, confusion, surroundings seem unreal, like walking in a dream (not a good one), concentration problems, general malaise, not able to eat anything but oatmeal and mashed potatoes. Extreme weight loss. Had to stop after 11 doses. Stomach worse than before. I have to add that I also had Amoxicillin and Protonix at the same time, maybe the combination was at fault for this extreme reaction."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "When I found out I had BV, my doctor prescribed me with metronidazole. My doctor told me to take all 4 pills at once with food and water. On the second day, the odor was gone. Then the discharge was slowly going away. I was looking up the side effects of metronidazole. I did have a metallic taste whenever I ate or drank something, and I felt kind of dizzy at times. But I must say, it is all worth it to have a healthy body again."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I had a vaginal infection and was prescribed Flagyl to cure it. I hated the immediate awful taste in my mouth, and it dissolved immediately upon hitting my tongue. I only experienced the awful taste and some slight stomach upset as side effects. The infection began to clear up after 3 days of a 7-day prescription. I recommend it, and drink something fruity with it. Also, DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL AT ALL while on this medication OR FOR 3 DAYS AFTER YOU STOP TAKING IT. You WILL have severe vomiting, heaving, and dizziness."

For Trichomoniasis "I am 6 weeks pregnant, and I found out I have trich. I am taking Flagyl 500 mg for trich. I have to take it for 7 days! I am on day 3. I have been feeling dizzy today, have stomach pain, and have been tired. I have pooped today, and it was black and brown, I have never had my poop be black before. I can't wait until this is over with. This taste is so freaking nasty. Never again having unprotected sex without knowing the status of the partner first! Always be safe and wrap it up, and know your partner's status first."

For Diverticulitis "I was diagnosed for the 1st time at the ER after a CT scan. Cipro 2x and Flagyl 3x per day were prescribed. I can't feel any pain b/c I'm too focused on the nausea, dizziness, bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Day 2 - I had an important meeting to attend (that I could not miss), the metallic taste was awful, and the smells when I walked in the room made the nausea unbearable. Out of desperation, I popped 2 pieces of mentos spearmint gum in my mouth and sucked on them, and within minutes felt so much better. The mint soothed my stomach and I was functioning. I went on to another meeting thereafter and did just fine. Thereafter, I tried peppermint candy but it didn't have the same effect. I'm on a clear liquid diet too, which doesn't help."

For Dental Abscess "Prescribed metronidazole 200 mg three times a day for 5 days alongside amoxicillin 250 mg, same dose. After 24 hours, the horrific pain in my tooth has gone, and aside from a dizzy spell yesterday, I have not noticed any side effects. Also taking ibuprofen for the pain but have cut back on that now that it's gone. So glad to be feeling normal again! Have not drunk any alcohol as advised by the dentist."

For Diverticulitis "34 yr old female, 500 mg-3 x 10 days. I do think it's healing me, but I started having side effects from this from the first day I took it. Severe anxiety, dizziness, insomnia, lethargy, diarrhea, ringing in ears, hands shaking, night sweats, metal taste in mouth, couldn't focus, and was overall very irritated. By day 3 & 4, I started having severe depression and uncontrollable crying, flu-like symptoms, and by day five, I felt homicidal!! I'm currently on day 6, and luckily I missed my last dose, or else who knows what could've happened! I am going to finish out my script, but I may cut it back to just 2 a day. I'll be so glad when this is over with!"

For Bacterial Infection "Omg, I loathe taking these pills, it's all I can think about all day, and I'm only on day 3 of a 7-day treatment for BV. I feel awful: severe headache, fatigue that has kept me in bed all 3 days, nausea, loss of my appetite, dizziness, bloated, gassy, muscle aches like I have the flu. Is there nothing with fewer side effects to take for this? I barely had any BV symptoms to start with, I feel like a dysfunctional zombie. There's no way I'm gonna make it through 4 more days. I can't function like this. Everyone's body is different, my body doesn't react well to this."

For Bacterial Infection "Was prescribed metronidazole because of my diarrhea in the event it was caused by bacteria. Worst experience ever. Gave me oral thrush that has been impossible to get rid of. Made me dizzy, couldn’t sleep, anxious, depressed. I felt totally out of my mind to the point I had to meet with a psychiatrist. I never mentally felt like that in my life. Horrible medication. Took for maybe a week and a half until I couldn’t do it anymore."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was prescribed this med for 14 days with clarithromycin, bismuth, and omeprazole to treat H. pylori. After four days, I was having horrific panic attacks in my sleep, severe depression, and felt like I was losing my mind. Had to completely stop it. After four days without taking any, I am still feeling anxiety, feelings of de-realization, weakness, dizziness, and like I cannot regulate my internal temperature. It is getting a little better but still feel like garbage. I am allergic to penicillin, so the doctor wants me to see an allergist so he can prescribe levofloxacin. H. pylori is no joke, but these meds are like poison!"

For Dental Abscess "Worked wonders for my dental abscess. Midway through my A-levels, a wisdom tooth in my lower left side of mouth decided to come through, causing severe pain and subsequent pericoronitis. Dentist prescribed me three 400mg pills for a total of 5 days. He warned me of side effects that could negatively affect my performance in exams. The metronidazole was extremely effective in reducing the pain - paracetamol simply wasn't effective enough. It also reduced my massively swollen cheek within 2 days - the metronidazole rapidly cured my abscess and I feel no pain anymore. I did experience some side effects - my chest felt tight, I felt slightly dizzy and uncoordinated most of the time, it was harder to think deeply, and I had a reduced appetite. I was anticipating the worst after I read all these negative reviews, but in my personal experience, the drug was extremely effective, and I would recommend it to anyone."

For Trichomoniasis "I was just diagnosed with trich by my gyno. She prescribed (metronidazole) the one dose when you take 4 pills at once. I ate food and then I took the metronidazole at 8 pm. Immediately I felt dizzy, and my mouth tasted of a chalky substance, but I felt it working. My discharge stopped, and the smell is going away. No more side effects other than the dizziness. But I want to know, do you go back for a follow-up?"

For Bacterial Infection "Given for 7 days, twice a day for bacterial vaginitis. I dipped the pill in honey and took it after full meals with lots of liquids. Never tasted it at all. Side effect of dry mouth with slight nausea but ate a little more on top of the dose. I'm now on the sixth day and feel horrible. I don't know if I actually have the flu or if this is a side effect of the medicines. I'm achy, have chills, feel dizzy, have a sore throat, and headaches. Don't want to continue if these are serious side effects, but if I stop, it may cause treatment to have been in vain! It has cleared up all symptoms of infection, though."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed the 500 mg x 4, taking all pills at once treatment. Became incredibly nauseous after a few hours, dizzy, dry eyes, a bad headache. Started feeling dissociative suddenly. Eventually started to become very anxious, evolved into a severe panic attack where I could not land for hours. Reached a point where I really thought I was losing it and contemplated calling for health professionals until someone came to me and could help calm me down. But I still felt a complete loss of reality and rationality, and I have never experienced this much lack of control before. It did better the symptoms for the bacterial vaginitis, but in the future, I would rather do any other treatment than this."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I took a week's worth of pills of this for a second BV flare-up (tried Tindamax the first time, and the BV came back), and I am confident enough now to write a positive review. All side effects (discharge, foul odor, stabbing pain) subsided by either the third or fourth day. So far, so yeast infection, but I am being very proactive and taking probiotics daily and eating lots of yogurt. Side effects were very minimal and manageable, just a bit of fatigue, dizziness, and light sensitivity. Nothing horrible. PRO TIP: Wrap the pills in bread before you swallow them. No metallic aftertaste at all if you do this!"

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I have taken Flagyl multiple times for BV. I hate it each time. I tried clindamycin, but it wasn’t as effective. I took the pills with chocolate milk for the first few days, then orange juice. Then I finally saw where to wrap a fruit roll-up around the pill. I wish I would’ve known about that a long time ago. It helped a lot. My side effects were: dizzy, drowsy, stomach ache, heartburn, kind of blurry vision, headaches, back pain, frequent urination, dark urine, not much diarrhea, nausea. Finally, I didn’t have a metallic taste, but the aftertaste was awful. After taking the medication, it did give me a yeast infection, which was expected. Really, please try the fruit roll-up method, it helped a lot even with my last tablet."

For Diverticulitis "Metronidazole is horrible. Was diagnosed with diverticulosis. The first day was bad, but every day I get worse. While the pain in my lower left abdomen has subsided, the medication has made me so sick I cannot even function. This is day 6 out of 10. I will call the doc tomorrow and tell them I need something else. Each day it gets worse. Feet and hands are ice cold, feel like I am going to throw up all day and night, dizzy, chills, bloated, fever, lethargic, and out of sorts. Absolutely horrible."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed this medication, metronidazole, for Trichomonas, four pills for one day. I took the pills, I got dizzy, lightheaded, and my heart was racing. It felt like a panic attack, so I just calmed down, and it went away. Other than that, I felt fine, a little nauseous, but I ate some chips or something, and it went away. I drank water for the rest of the day, no juice or anything else, just water, and had a full meal."

For Diverticulitis "If I could give a neg 100, I would. I hate this drug. Horrible side effects, I'm still dizzy and have brain fog after 3 months. I had a severe headache, vomiting, severe anxiety, horrible brain fog, fatigue, no appetite. I still have anxiety! Cipro or any fluoroquinolone is usually prescribed with this. I have to say shame on all the doctors who give any fluoroquinolone out since Bayer themselves and the FDA sent out warning letters. The FDA safety review found that both oral and injectable fluoroquinolones are associated with disabling side effects involving tendons, muscles, joints, nerves, and the central nervous system. These side effects can occur hours to weeks after exposure to fluoroquinolones and may potentially be permanent."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I really don't understand all the negative reviews for this medicine. I've been on it for three solid days now and have had absolutely no issues. I'm taking 500 mg, one pill twice a day. I've been taking it after lunch and dinner and haven't had any issues with diarrhea, nausea, or dizziness. As for people complaining about the taste of the pill, how are you even able to know what it tastes like? It should be in your mouth for less than a second, just swallow it down with a glass of water or some orange juice."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed to take this twice a day for 7 days for bacterial vaginosis. I will never allow a doctor to prescribe me this ever again! The taste comes from nightmares for starters, and good LORD, the side effects are NOT worth it! Constant nausea, dizziness, everything tastes like fecal matter, fevers, restlessness, overall weak and uncomfortable. This cannot be good for you. I didn't even have any side effects with the BV itself, it's this medication that has been making me feel like death!"
