Metronidazole topical "I have been having BV problems for a couple of years after I had my babe. Took this for the first time this week. Looks like it helped with BV, but caused some pretty bad symptoms: headache, stomachache, nervousness, some discharge with blood, cramping, insomnia, and intestinal issues. Hopefully it does the job!"

Metronidazole topical "I was around 20 weeks pregnant when I noticed a fishy smell in my urine along with itchiness. I’m prone to getting BV, so I was already familiar with the symptoms. I went to urgent care, and sure enough, I was diagnosed with a UTI and BV. Not a fun combo. I double-checked with my OB and pharmacist if this was safe to take during pregnancy since I was a bit hesitant. They reassured me that it is and that it is Category B, which is deemed safe during pregnancy. They also explained that you can have more severe consequences when leaving BV untreated during pregnancy. I have always hated Flagyl oral route since those make me feel very sick, and the pharmacist explained that it's better to treat it vaginally rather than taking the oral pills systemically. Don't let the negative reviews steer you away from trying this and curing your BV. Trust me, I get really bad panic attacks when taking new medications, but this WORKED! No side effects aside from mild cramping and thick white discharge."

Metronidazole topical "I've been battling BV off and on for 3 years now. I've used the gel now at least 5 times (once a night for 5 days), and I honestly have no idea why I keep going back to it. It never works for long (BV comes back right after the period), and it always leaves a side effect worse than the BV. Right now I'm dealing with constipation and UTI side effects (but no UTI, was tested), and my last treatment was almost 2 months ago. Never again. I will try and maintain with probiotics and Rephresh from here on out. Stay away from MetroGel!!!!"

Metronidazole topical "I was honestly scared to try this medication with all the reviews I’ve read. I had little to no side effects. My side effects were just a little bit of cramping and discharge with a little blood. Symptoms were noticeably better. Just stay away from alcohol."

Metronidazole topical "I started taking the MetroGel a few days ago and have been hospitalized twice since for severe stomach pain and cramping, nausea and vomiting, sweating, and breast discharge. This drug is horrible. None of the ER doctors put two and two together to find that my symptoms were a result of the gel. My own GYN doesn’t believe that the symptoms are related side effects, but it says right on the package that these are ‘less common’ side effects. I just figured it out last night and now I’m trying to get it out of my system."

Metronidazole topical "I’ve been dealing with BV and yeast my entire pregnancy. Not to be gross, but it’s been so bad my discharge has been green. My doc recommended Nuvessa, and I took it last week. The green is gone, but now I’m itchy. I’ll see next week if the BV is gone or not. I pray it has, this has been nothing short of a nightmare."

Metronidazole topical "I, ladies! As most of us, I was prescribed MetroGel by my OB. After complaining of consistent BVs for the last 3 years, I have only used it for 2 nights so far, and I have a lot of discharge. Some with a hint of blood and at other times just a lot of clear discharge. I assume my vagina is flushing out all the bad bacteria. I have gotten up several times at work to use the restroom because of the discharge. Since reading so many of the reviews, I am just going to wait it out as this is my first time using MetroGel."

"Okay, everyone, I got the metronidazole pills for BV and was too afraid to take them. Terrified to the point I continued suffering and demanded my doctor get me the gel. Once I had the gel, I was still very afraid and refused to take it. After a week of symptoms, I finally got the courage to take HALF a dose of the gel. I felt fine. Tonight is night 2, and I took a FULL DOSE of the gel 3 hours ago. Still completely fine. Please don’t let these reviews scare you, people are so dramatic when it’s not needed. If you’re afraid, I suggest inserting only a little bit, see how you react, then insert more 2 hours later or so, continue, and so on and so forth. Good luck, ladies, and again, it’s not nearly as bad as everyone is saying. I have ZERO SIDE EFFECTS, forgot I even used it."

Metronidazole topical "Awful medication. I had absolutely 0 symptoms of BV, but it came up in my pap during my physical. My doctor started me on the pill and I could hardly make it 1.5 days. Wasn't able to focus, felt drunk, nausea, extreme fatigue, ear congestion, and so on. I quit taking it immediately. My doctor then prescribed the topical gel, which I believe was a huge mistake, as it caused extreme and intense burning on the outside of my vagina. Then onto the vaginal gel insertion. I had to do 2 awful rounds of this. Worst cramps, nausea, and fatigue I've ever experienced. Bloating was so uncomfortable, I could hardly wear some of my clothes. It's been 3 weeks since I've been off the medication now, and I've still had waves of side effects. My gut bacteria and vaginal pH are completely out of whack. All I want to do is sleep, my migraines have intensified, and bloating is still an issue. Do not take this medicine, especially if you didn't have symptoms of BV to begin with!"

Metronidazole topical "I am angry at the negative reviews that misled me and had me afraid to use the gel. I am on my 3rd night and have not had a bad experience yet. The only thing I noticed was a slight cramp (barely noticeable), a slightly metallic taste in my mouth, and a little clumpy white discharge the next day (vagina cleansing itself out from the medicine working…not a yeast infection). No burns, no nausea, no sickness, no loss of appetite, and no burning. I even skipped drinking wine or alcohol to make sure it didn’t increase side effects, although it’s less likely to happen with the gel vs. the pill."

"I have struggled with BV for years! I gave up on going to the doctor because everything they prescribed to me did not work! I finally decided to take back control of my health and my life and decided to go back to the doctor. I was prescribed the metronidazole gel 0.75%. Last night I did my first applicator full and my discharge and fishy odor are completely gone. I have decided to take two probiotics every day to replenish the good bacteria in my body. So far, so good. I will update after my 5 days are up."

"I was prescribed MetroGel for BV, took the medication for 5 days like it said, and Sunday night was my last dose, that weekend on Saturday, I had a drink. I only had the one, and I got sick that night. I figured that was just from the alcohol. But I woke up the next morning and felt nauseous. And throughout the day, my nausea kept getting so much worse. I was running to the bathroom every 10-15 minutes to throw up. Tingly hands. Hot face. Dizzy. I had an idea it was because of the metronidazole, but all the forums I checked say wait at least 72 hours. For me, it seems the medicine was still in my system for 5 days. I thought I’d be fine, but no. I wanted to share because I feel so sick, and I wanted to complain but also let someone know. Do not drink, don’t risk it. It feels worse than a hangover. And to be safe, I would wait a week before drinking. Don’t be like me."

Metronidazole topical "I've had BV for over a year and used Nuvessa for the first time a week ago, no side effects, and I haven't had any odor since! I'm so grateful because my odor was my biggest insecurity. I am still a little worried for when I finally have unprotected sex with my boyfriend."

Metronidazole topical "So last year I had my very first yeast infection and BV. Recently I started eating a bunch of probiotics since I didn’t want to have to keep taking antibiotics that were killing my good and bad bacteria. I had sex with my boyfriend and there was an odor that shouldn’t have been there. So I went to the doctor. She said we found a little amount of BV and the tiniest bit of yeast and gave me the gel. But I had told her the medicine I don’t react well to because it always puts me back with a yeast infection, which I had no symptoms of, it was just an odor. Now, day two of taking the gel, my vagina is on fire from the yeast, and now I’m actually suffering from something else now!"

Metronidazole topical "Have been using the actual gel for two days, and I'm fine. A little burning and mild diarrhea at most, but that is it. I followed the directions, if you follow the directions, you should be fine. It clearly states not to have sex while using the medication."

Metronidazole topical "I’ve used this for one day, and this is my second night using it, and I feel horrible. I feel like I’m on my period, nausea, cramps, lightheaded, and dizzy. I couldn’t walk up my steps because of my cramps. All I want to do is sleep, and what’s funny is that I’ve used this medicine before, and it was never like this. I want to stop using it. 3 days left, and I don’t think I can do it."

Metronidazole topical "The first three days of this medicine were fine. The fourth day, I called off work. Felt like I had a head cold and dizziness. The fifth day, I was able to go to work but felt dizzy and had no energy. I’m glad this is my last day taking this medicine. I also noticed clumpy white discharge on the 3rd and 4th day (feels like a yeast infection), but if it is, after I’m done taking the last dose of this medicine, I’ll go ahead and buy yeast infection medicine. Really don’t want to ever take this medicine again."

Metronidazole topical "I went to the doctor due to noticing a sweet smell or ammonia-type smell when I would urinate. I thought the problem was an underlying disease like diabetes. They tested me and BV is what fit. I have just finished my final dose last night out of 5 days. The thick white discharge seems to be a common thing, but the smell of my urine specifically hasn't changed, which is what led me to the doctor. Anyone else have a similar experience?"

Metronidazole topical "For the longest time I’ve battled with BV. I want to say 3-4 years now. I always thought my pH was out of whack! Which I know BV makes it out of whack too. Anyhow, I finally went to a doctor, did a test, and sure enough - BV. I got the antibiotic pill form. Worked great! And then I got it again! - It slowly started to get worse, so again, went back, got the pill medication again. And then just recently - I did a telemed call because I already knew what it was - what I was experiencing. I refuse to throw my legs in the air again and put those uncomfortable tongs inside me again. I was given a yeast infection pill and a generic version pill of the Flagyl. I noticed it didn’t do crap. It didn’t clear it up! I had another appointment, was finally offered the gel! Never knew it existed, and I'm so happy I got it! Day 4 of treatment and I noticed a major difference. By day 2! I’ve had no side effects :) 10/10"

Metronidazole topical "I've been on the gel for 3 days. First diagnosed with a UTI with no growth. Finished Cipro and still had symptoms. Second round-pelvic exam & swab. Still had bacteria & yeast, so was prescribed MetroGel. No side effects, but hasn't helped my issue. Waiting for 2nd culture to come back to see if still UTI and wasn't sensitive to the Cipro and need something new. Pains from hell."

Metronidazole topical "I am in my late teens, and I am currently using the MetroGel. I am on my second day of using it twice a day. I have had very little side effects. I have had a mild headache to no headache, but very faint. That is about the only side effect that I have had from using this product so far, and it is very helpful."

Metronidazole topical "When I was first prescribed Nuvessa for BV, I was a bit skeptical at first. Nothing worked in my favor because BV would always come back. With using this, I could even have unprotected sex with my boyfriend, and all is good, I saw no evidence of BV. Usually, my pH used to be thrown off after sex."

Metronidazole topical "I was diagnosed with BV. I seem to get it every 2 years, but now I'm getting symptoms. I was treated in October for BV with this gel. It is really gross. Because you're inserting gel, that all comes out at some point. Which is the worst. Having all that stuff between your legs when you're trying to go through your day. Well, I finished that, to immediately get a yeast infection. Which they don't tell you. But 9x out of 10, you get a yeast infection. So I treated that. To only still have BV when I went to my annual in December. Looks like I'll be doing this again.... At this point, I feel like it's a whole lot of suffering for nothing."

Metronidazole topical "Had BV second time now, first was tablets, made me feel drunk, so I'm avoiding the tablets, and this second time I'm using the gel. All I can say is side effects are stomach ache, wind, and diarrhea. I was told to use it at nighttime for five nights, and I'm on the second night."

"I wanted to offer some good advice after all the negative reviews, though I know everyone is different. I have had both the metronidazole tablets and gel for BV and have just finished the gel, which I found far better than the tablets, though they just kind of knocked me out a bit. The gel has been fine, it’s really easy to insert and doesn’t seem to fall back out like the self-treatment gels. The smell was gone the first morning after treatment. I’ve had no thrush after stopping treatment, which I assumed would be likely. I’ve had no ill side effects at all, minus feeling pretty shattered for one day, but can’t guarantee that’s the gel. I avoided starting the course for weeks after reading the reviews but got fed up with the effects of BV. I’d recommend the gel. I was okay on the tablets too, but they definitely had more side effects than the gel, I was worn out and generally just low for the whole course of the pills."
