Metronidazole topical "So I feel like I always either have BV or a yeast infection. I went to the gyno for severe itching and was given an oral dose for a yeast infection. That went fine. My results came back, and I also had BV, so I started the 5-day vaginal metronidazole gel. I hate it. The first couple of days, I felt weak and dizzy. I’m on the last night, thank goodness. These past three days, including right now, I’ll get a terrible headache in the evenings. I never get headaches. Super weird. Really uncomfortable. Also very anxious and irritable. Hope this all goes away after tomorrow. And I pray I don’t get a yeast infection. Literally just took medication for one."

"Very unhappy, have had BV for 4 months. Every time I take what I'm prescribed, the test after the medicine is positive, meaning it never went away at all, not even for a while. Struggling a lot because of the recurrence. At this point, I'm told I have to do a gel for 6 months, and that is if that even makes it leave. I have no sex life anymore. If I decide to take the drug, they said that's 10 months no sex. I'm in fear of my partner leaving for something that cannot be cured. Will I ever have a life again? Will I ever not feel ashamed or filthy because of this? The doctors keep prescribing things for a UTI, yeast infection, and BV 'metro' antibiotics, nothing helps. I don't want to live my life like this. There needs to be more studies to find the actual problem of why the BV is recurring in so many women who have given their whole lives up to fight this."

Metronidazole topical "Was prescribed this medicine. Had to take it every night for 5 nights. Had the side effect of thick, white, clumpy discharge, which my teledoc believed to be a yeast infection. It also itches mildly. The discharge is odorless, though, so I think it absolutely cleared the BV but gave me my first yeast infection in the process. I can't wait until my vagina is back to normal."

Metronidazole topical "I was diagnosed with BV and took this medicine perfectly for 5 days. After the first day, I got severe, crippling anxiety attacks, which are very uncommon for me. I also had an upset stomach, cramps, and diarrhea for a week. The symptoms of BV never cleared up. I started my period after day 5 of medicine, and after that, I was back to square one. It did not work at all for any of the symptoms, except the smell of the discharge was less bad, so that's why I gave it a two instead of a one. Still trying to find a medicine that helps me! This is so frustrating."

Metronidazole topical "Garbage. It takes it away for a little while, and right back again it comes. I've been going through this for 15 years now. As far as I'm concerned, this medicine causes it to reoccur, which I feel like the government and pharmaceuticals purposely did to make MONEY."

Metronidazole topical "I used Metronidazole vaginal cream 10% for bacterial vaginosis caused by washing too much. My only symptom was a yellow discharge. I was very worried to start the treatment because of the reviews, I was scared of the side effects, and I waited for a month before starting. I’m on my last day of treatment, and the only symptom I had was a bit of a headache at the beginning and, today, mild cramping. Symptoms are very minimal. I have no more discharge."

"Having suffered with BV for 2 years, I've tried all sorts to get rid of it! Natural yogurt, using 0% fragrance-free shower gel, Canesten (which worked for a little while but soon came back!) So I took a trip to the GP who prescribed me metronidazole gel. Before I took it, I read through the reviews here, and I was petrified reading all the side effects. Especially the feeling nauseous or vomiting ones. I am petrified of vomiting! But I bit the bullet and took the gel for 5 nights. I have had absolutely NO side effects at all. I feel very lucky considering the amount of ladies who have had this medication and suffered horrendous side effects! The BV has completely cleared up, I'm cured of soreness, and the awful smell! Finally!! I didn't drink any alcohol while taking the gel for 48 hours before I started using it and 72 hours after (very hard as I love my wine!) Just wanted to write this to reassure people that not everyone gets side effects :) Good luck, ladies!"

Metronidazole topical "After being treated for yeast for 8 months with little success, my doctor put me on MetroGel as kind of a last resort to soothe my itching, burning, abnormal discharge, tingling, even though my cultures keep coming back negative for everything. I've taken MetroGel before when I actually had a positive culture for BV and had no complaints. This time around, I'm on my second night and feel awful. Itching is still there, I have body aches, chills, feel nauseous. I'm going to continue using this medicine for the next 3 nights, and I'll check back in to finish the review. I also have a gross discharge, but I assume this is the gel coming out."

Metronidazole topical "For the last 6 months, I've been fighting BV that would not go away. I've been on 2 lots of antibiotics in pill form, metronidazole, that were disgusting to take and swallow, and that didn't do anything. I felt horrible when being on these, they seemed to make my symptoms worse. I had tests done and would always come back positive for BV. Finally, I went to a Gyno that listened, he prescribed me Metrogel instead of pill form, and I would always ask them for a Diflucan pill to take at the end of the course to stop a yeast infection, which it did. So, I've been on the Metrogel now for 4 days, which I was told to use twice a day for 5 days, and my symptoms of burning and itching went away on the second day. I've also had no bad side effects. By using this gel, you do get a white clumpy discharge, but that should go away when the course is finished. This is the best I've felt in 6 months and would definitely use again if needed."

Metronidazole topical "So it came back a lot since the last posting. I have had to figure everything out myself. It was hormone-related big time! Got on NuvaRing birth control for 3 or 4 months recently and have come off the last month. That helped more than anything. Reset your hormone balance with birth control. Also, BV has a hard time living when you take birth controls."

Metronidazole topical "This drug seems to work for me and get rid of the symptoms of BV, the smell and the itch, however, the BV itself seems to come back, so I think it clears the symptom but doesn't cure the problem in my body."

"When I got BV, usually it went away on its own within 2-3 days. When it lasted for months, I finally got the Metrogel, and after the first day, no more smell! Had zero side effects as well. I finally feel normal again!!"

Metronidazole topical "I started getting BV when my partner, unbeknownst to me, started cheating. We were together for a couple of years, during which I took the pills - they were hard to swallow and irritated my stomach, even though they worked, but it would come back. We broke up, and I had other lovers, having protected and unprotected sex, and didn't develop BV with those partners. I got back with my old boyfriend, and BV started up again; even though it's not classified as an STD, it seems through my research on different boards that men can spread it. Anyway, I started using the gel, and despite the clumps of discharge, it worked fantastically. My boyfriend and I always use protection, and I do not allow him to perform oral on me either, since I've found that if he does this, I will also get BV. The gel really does work though."

Metronidazole topical "I've had BV off and on for almost 2 years now. I would use Cleocin gel when it would come back, but I think my body just got immune to it, so about two weeks ago I tried MetroGel. It went away but did give me a yeast infection. I used Monistat one day and boom, the BV came back. So I'm trying the MetroGel again, but just for a longer period of time in hopes it does the job this time. Doesn't give me any side effects, which is something I stressed before taking it."

Metronidazole topical "Gave this 5 stars. I will say it helps for the moment. I have had an issue now for several months going back to the doctor because of BV and yeast infection. She gives me the Diflucan to take, then do the gel for 5 nights. Once I'm done, in a few days it is back. I'm sick of going to the doctor every month. Last visit, she had recommended fresh suppositories. Ordered them and could not do it. So, with that being said, I'm on my last night now of the gel. I got a probiotic vitamin that I will start, plus I started with the Activia yogurt and changed my soap. Fingers crossed. Side effects I agree with most: headache, cold-like symptoms, and yes, a little more tired than usual."

Metronidazole topical "I've been getting bacterial infections on and off for about 10 years, have always taken the metronidazole pills, and they give me a bad taste in my mouth, so this time I wanted to try the vaginal gel! Did not work at all! Plus, it gave me a yeast infection! Now having to redo treatment with pills! FML!"

Metronidazole topical "Dealt with recurrent infection (BV and yeast) for two years. I am currently reading through comments on many people's negative experiences with Metro and also wondering if others are having the same issue. Randomly, in my early 20s, I started to have issues with recurrent infection. I am sexually active, but I cut every potential issue out to stop these infections, yet still had the same issue. The first time having BV, I was prescribed Metro (oral), which in turn gave me a yeast infection (because antibiotics do that). I have tried every possible cure for recurrent infection, and boric acid suppositories have been the only things that work for me. My doctor put me on long-term treatment after my sixth time getting BV in the past two years, where I took oral Metro, followed by 30 days of boric acid and six months of Metro gel (I am on my first month of the gel)."

Metronidazole topical "I’m on MetroGel-Vaginal on day 3, and I’ve been absolutely fine. Only side effect was cramping and feeling sick on the first day, other than that, absolutely fine. I was scared at first because of reading reviews, but so happy I started this and took the chance. If you’re worried, don’t be, do it! Best thing."

Metronidazole topical "When I was diagnosed with BV, I was initially given a script for this medication in pill form for 7 days. I ended up back at the doctor a week later with persistent symptoms. Another swab was tested, and I was still positive for BV. I was then started on the gel. Symptoms of BV cleared within a few days, which was great. I had pelvic discomfort, felt pretty tired, and had a little bit of discharge with blood one day. I also now have a yeast infection, which is the most common side effect. Overall, I would say the gel works more effectively at treating BV symptoms than the pill, but the side effects aren’t the best."

Metronidazole topical "I've struggled with BV for a couple of years now. I've taken so many meds for this thing that it became a way of life. Always it returns! I'm also always told I have an inflamed cervix. Now I'm 11 weeks pregnant and went for my check. My cervix was severely inflamed (it bled during the pap smear). Was initially given Gynotran vaginal inserts (that didn't work). Now I've been given MetroGel inserts for 5 days. It was my last dose last night, and I noticed on day 3 cramping, then day 4-5 persistent abdominal cramping like when you hold your pee too long (which I didn't). Plus, I'm urinating a lot. Saw tiny white clumpy discharge too. Really hope this works and that I don't get a yeast infection as I'm already worried about my baby and fear using more meds during this time."

Metronidazole topical "I have recurring BV, so the MetroGel used three times a week helps a lot for a few days but has not gotten rid of it altogether. It provides some relief from BV, but I do get some side effects like dizziness, bloating, upset stomach, and tiredness. I only insert less than half of an applicator full each time, get fewer side effects from it, and it still is effective."

Metronidazole topical "Used a 5-day gel treatment for mild BV. Caused very mild cramping and moderate itching after the first dose. A day after completing treatment, I developed a bad yeast infection and extreme itching. Did help the BV, but I’m not sure which infection I’d rather have, to be honest. Some reviews say that the white clumpy discharge is just the gel coming out, which I think I also have, accompanied by yeast infection discharge."

Metronidazole topical "I was around 20 weeks pregnant when I noticed a fishy smell in my urine along with itchiness. I’m prone to getting BV, so I was already familiar with the symptoms. I went to urgent care, and sure enough, I was diagnosed with a UTI and BV. Not a fun combo. I double-checked with my OB and pharmacist if this was safe to take during pregnancy since I was a bit hesitant. They reassured me that it is and that it is Category B, which is deemed safe during pregnancy. They also explained that you can have more severe consequences when leaving BV untreated during pregnancy. I have always hated Flagyl oral route since those make me feel very sick, and the pharmacist explained that it's better to treat it vaginally rather than taking the oral pills systemically. Don't let the negative reviews steer you away from trying this and curing your BV. Trust me, I get really bad panic attacks when taking new medications, but this WORKED! No side effects aside from mild cramping and thick white discharge."

Metronidazole topical "Do not use this gel, three days in and I now have a yeast infection and the most painful bumps around my vulva. I’ve stopped the treatment; can’t believe this stuff was approved with so many side effects."

Metronidazole topical "I'm 28, never had BV before. The MetroGel was easy to use, but I would have some slight cramping after inserting it. I used it for 5 days. I do have this white clumpy discharge and a slight odor, but it isn't fishy or foul. I'm just hoping this gel hasn't messed up my vaginal pH or going to cause a yeast infection."
