MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I got bv from stupidly using body wash in the nether regions, completely regret it! I’ve never used antibiotics but my doctor gave me metrogel. So far no irritation and the smell is gone completely. Currently, I am experiencing discharge but no cramping so far. The only thing I fear is that I may get a yeast infection but hopes are high."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I’ve been suffering from BV non stop after high school. I’m 22 and it is very annoying I feel like I’m not clean if that makes sense but the doctor did tell me a lot of women have this issue just because we’re women. They prescribed me metrogel one dose every night for 5 nights I can’t tell if it is clearing up my discharge because I have the medicine coming out when I wake up it looks gross but I read it’s normal. I’m done with my gel and took one dose of diflucan (anti yeast) after my gel and on the 4th day since finishing medication I still have symptoms and the gel is still inside. I got discharge with blood and got scared but I read that’s a side effect. I guess I just hope my BV and yeast goes away I didn’t even know I had yeast to begin with. I’ll keep y’all updated hope this helps."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I've struggled with BV for a couple years now. I've taken so many meds for this thing that it became a way of life. Always it returns! I'm also always told I have an inflamed cervix. Now I'm 11 weeks pregnant and went for my check. My cervix was severely inflamed (it bled during the pap smear). Was initially given Gynotran vaginal inserts (that didn't work). Now I've been given metro-gel inserts for 5 days. It was my last dose last night and I noticed on day 3 cramping, then day 4-5 persistent abdominal cramping like when you hold your pee too long (which I didn't). Plus I'm urinating a lot. Saw tiny white clumpy discharge too. Really hope this works and that I don't get a yeast infection as I'm already worried about my baby and fear using more meds during this time."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I was due for a Pap smear and after a couple of weeks my physician's office called me advising I had an overgrowth of bacterial in my vagina. I couldn't understand that as I never complained of any itching, odor, or smell, I just went in for a pap smear. After 5 days of administering this gel I developed a severe pain when I urinate. I called my physician and I was told to drink cranberry juice and take the cranberry supplement by AZO this didn't work, now I'm taking an antiobiotic Ciprofloxacin Hcl 500 mg for 10 days, twice a day which caused intense itching. Thursday is last day for pills and then I take the 1 day pill Fluconazole tablet 150 mg. What a horrific experience with the gel, it burns my clitoris"

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I used Metronidazole vaginal cream 10% for a bacterial vaginosis caused from washing too much. My only symptom was a yellow discharge. I was very worried to start the treatment because of the reviews, I was scared of the sides effects, and I waited for a month before starting. I’m on my last day of treatment and the only symptom I had was a bit of headache at the beginning and today mild cramping. Symptoms are very minimal. I have no more discharge."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "So I feel like I always either have BV or a yeast infection. I went to the Gyno for severe itching and was given an oral dose for a yeast infection. That went fine. My results came back and I also had BV so I started the 5 day vaginal metronidazole gel. I hate it. First couple of days I felt weak and dizzy. I’m on the last night thank goodness. These past three days including right now. I’ll get a terrible headache in the evenings. I never get headaches. Super weird. Really uncomfortable. Also very anxious and irritable. Hope this all goes away after tomorrow. And I pray I don’t get a yeast infection. Literally just took medication for one."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "This is for anyone scared to take this!! I was so scared to take this after reading the reviews. I put it off for so long and suffered from BV for 8 months. Discharge and horrible smell. I wish I would have used this sooner!!! Do not hesitate to use this it gave me my life back!! Smell and discharge were gone after one day. I used it for five days. It is easy to insert I had no side effects no burning no discomfort. The gel clumps up into white chunks that come out when you use the bathroom. But it was worth it!! I took a probiotic also to prevent a yeast infection. I’ve been bv free for a month now!!"

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "Was prescribed this medicine. Had to take it every night for 5 nights. Had the side effect of thick white clumpy discharge which my teledoc believed to be a yeast infection. It also itches mildly. The discharge is odorless though so I think it absolutely cleared the BV but gave me my first yeast infection in the process. I can't wait until my vagina is back to normal"

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "AWFUL medication. I had absolutely 0 symptoms of BV, but it came up in my pap during my physical. My doctor started me on the pill and I could hardly make it 1.5 days. Wasn’t able to focus, felt drunk, nausea, extreme fatigue, ear congestion, and so on. I quit taking it immediately. My doctor then prescribed the topical gel, which I believe was a huge mistake as it caused extreme and intense burning on the outside of my vagina. Then onto the vaginal gel insertion. I had to do 2 awful rounds of this. Worst cramps, nausea and fatigue I’ve ever experienced. Bloating was so uncomfortable, I could hardly wear some of my clothes. It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve been off the medication now and I’ve still had waves of side effects. My gut bacteria and vaginal ph are completely out of whack. All I want to do is sleep, my migraines have intensified and bloating is still an issue. Do not take this medicine especially if you didn’t have symptoms of BV to begin with!"

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I have suffered with BV now for over 6 months and it has caused a lot of issues with my mental health and sex life. After being tested for every STD under the sun ( just to rule out as we didn’t know what it was at first) It was misdiagnosed as thrush from a doctor at the clinic. The symptoms persisted as what I was given for the thrush didn’t clear it (as it wasn’t thrush) I went back to 3 doctors who told me it was BV. I have now taken 3 courses of oral antibiotics and they don’t work for me. I was then prescribed metronidazole gel (5 day course) and wow ! Just wow ! The results after the first dose are incredible. No more overbearing smell, no funky discharge. Not having to change my underwear and shower like 4 times a day. One thing I will say is just be aware that the gel WILL GIVE YOU A WEIRD STRINGY LUMPY WHITE DISCHARGE! it’s just the gel working and flushing out the infection. I was scared by this at first but later found out it’s normal xx"

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I, ladies! As most of us, I was prescribed MetroGel by my OB. After complaining of consistent BVs for the last 3 years, I have only used it for 2 nights so far, and I have a lot of discharge. Some with a hint of blood and at other times just a lot of clear discharge. I assume my vagina is flushing out all the bad bacteria. I have gotten up several times at work to use the restroom because of the discharge. Since reading so many of the reviews, I am just going to wait it out as this is my first time using MetroGel."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "When I was diagnosed with BV, I was initially given a script for this medication in the pill form for 7 days. I ended up back at the doctor a week later with persistent symptoms. Another swab was tested and I was still positive for BV. I was then started on the gel. Symptoms of BV cleared within a few days, which was great. I had pelvic discomfort, felt pretty tired, and had a little bit of discharge with blood one day. I also now have a yeast infection, which is the most common side effect. Overall, I would say the gel works more effectively at treating BV symptoms than the pill, but the side effects aren’t the best."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I was diagnosed with BV and took this medicine PERFECTLY for 5 days. After the first day I got severe, crippling anxiety attacks which are very uncommon for me. I also had an upset stomach, cramps, and diarrhea for a week. The symptoms of BV never cleared up. I started my period after day 5 of medicine and after that, I was back to square one. It did not work at all for any of the symptoms, except the smell of the discharge was less bad, so that's why I gave it a two instead of a one. Still trying to find a medicine that helps me! This is so frustrating."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "Dealt with recurrent infection (BV and yeast) for two years. I am currently reading through comments on many people’s negative experiences with metro and also wondering if others are having the same issue. Randomly in my early 20s I started to have issues with recurrent infection. I am sexually active but I cut every potential issue out to stop these infections yet still had the same issue. First time having bv I was prescribed metro (oral) which in turn gave me a yeast infection (because antibiotics do that). I have tried every possible cure for recurrent infection and boric acid suppositories have been the only things that work for me. My doctor put me on long term treatment after my sixth time getting bv in the past two years where I took oral metro followed by 30 days of boric acid and six months of metro gel (I am on my first month of the gel)."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "For the last 6 months I've been fighting BV that would not go away. I've been on 2 lots of antibiotics in pill form metronidazole that were disgusting to take and swallow that didn't do anything. I felt horrible when being on these, they seem to make my symptoms worse. I had tests done and would always come back positive for BV. Finally I went to a Gyno that listened, he prescribed me metrogel instead of pill form, and I would always ask them for a diflucan pill to take at the end of the coarse to stop a yeast infection, which it did. So I've been on the metrogel now for 4 days, which I was told to use twice a day for 5 days, and my symptoms of burning, itching went away on the second day. I've also had no bad side effects. By using this gel you do get a white clumpy discharge, but that should go away when the coarse is finished. This is the best I've felt in 6 months, and would definitely use again if needed."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "After being treated for yeast for 8 months with little success, my doctor put me on metrogel as kind of a last resort to soothe my itching/burning/abnormal discharge/tingling even though my cultures keep coming back negative for everything... I've taken metrogel before when I actually had a positive culture for BV and had no complaints. This time around, I'm on my second night and feel awful. Itching is still there + I have body aches, chills, feel nauseous... I'm going to continue using this medicine for the next 3 nights and I'll check back in to finish the review... also have a gross discharge but I assume this is the gel coming out..."

"Having suffered with BV for 2 years, I've tried all sorts to get rid of it! Natural yoghurt, using 0% fragrance free shower gel, canesten (which worked for a little while but soon came back!) So I took a trip to the GP who prescribed me metronidazole gel. Before I took it, I read through the reviews here and I was petrified reading all the side effects. Especially the feeling nauseous or vomiting ones. I am petrified of vomiting! But I bit the bullet and took the gel for 5 nights. I have had absolutely NO side effects at all. I feel very lucky considering the amount of ladies who have had this medication and suffered horrendous side effects! The BV has completely cleared up, I'm cured of soreness, and the awful smell! Finally!! I didn't drink any alcohol while taking the gel for 48 hours before I started using it and 72 hours after (very hard as I love my wine!) Just wanted to write this to reassure people that not everyone gets side effects :) good luck ladies!"

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "Gave this 5 stars, I will say it helps for the moment... I have had a issue now for several months going back to doctor cause of BV and yeast infection, she gives me the diflucan to take then do the gel for 5 nights. Once I'm done in a few days it is back. I'm sick of going to the dr every month. Last visit she had recommended fresh Suppositories ordered them and could no do it. So with that being said I'm on my last night now of the gel. I got a probiotic vitamin that I will start plus started with the activia yogurt and changed my soap.. fingers crossed ... side effects I agree with most , headache. Cold like symptoms and yes a little more tired than usual ..."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "Used a 5 day gel treatment for mild BV. Caused very mild cramping and moderate itching after the first dose. A day after completing treatment, I developed a bad yeast infection and extreme itching. Did help the BV but I’m not sure which infection I’d rather have to be honest. Some reviews say that the white clumpy discharge is just the gel coming out. Which I think I also have, accompanied with yeast infection discharge."

MetroGel-Vaginal (metronidazole) "I started getting BV when my partner unbeknown to me started cheating. We were together for a couple years during which I took the pills- they were hard to swallow and irritated my stomach even though they worked but it would come back. We broke up and I had other lovers having protected and unprotected sex and didn't develop BV with those partners. I got back with my old boyfriend and BV started up again; even though it's not classified as a STD, it seems through my research on different boards that men can spread it. Anyway, I started using the gel and despite the clumps of discharge it worked fantastically. My boyfriend and I always use protection and I do not allow him to practice oral on me either, since I've found that if he does this i will also get BV. Gel really does work though."

It provides some relief from BV but I do get some side effects like dizziness, bloating, upset stomach and tired. I only insert less than half of an applicatorful each time get fewer side effects from it and it still is effective"

Got on nuvaring birth control for 3 or 4 months recently and have come off the last month. That helped more than anything. Reset your hormone Balance with birth control. Also BV has a hard time living when you take birth controls."

"Very unhappy , have had BV for 4 months , everytime I take what I'm prescribed the test after the medicine is positive meaning it never went away at all not even for awhile , struggling a lot because of the recurrence. At this point I'm told I have to do a gel for 6 months and that is if that even makes it leave. I have no sex life anymore if I decide to take drug they said thats 10 months no sex. I'm in fear of my partner leaving for something that cannot be cured , will I ever have a life again ? Will I ever not feel ashamed , or filthy because of this? The doctors keep prescribing things for a UTI, yeast infection and BV "metro" antibiotics, nothing helps . I don't want to live my life like this , there needs to be more studies to find the actual problem of why the BV is recurring in so many woman who have given their whole lives up to fight this ."
