Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "One of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I was given Reglan through IV. I began sweating profusely and became very agitated. It progressed until I was inconsolable. I began begging my husband to help me escape the hospital. He told me I was crying and slapping myself. I was pacing around the room, sitting down and then immediately standing back up. My eyes were darting around. I remember being very suspicious of everyone around me. Anxiety does not even cover it. I've had panic attacks before and this was something else, something much worse. The only way I was able to keep myself from exploding was by hurting myself. I dug my nails into my skin and pinched myself till bleeding. Truly one of the worst experiences of my life. Please don’t risk this medication. There are other options."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Given IV with Toradol & Benadryl. My headache went away almost immediately. Soon after that, I started shivering and trembling. I dismissed it, thinking I was just cold because of the hospital temperature & the IV fluids. I also had to pee so bad that I unhooked it myself because I could not wait for the nurse to come in and help me. I was so restless and anxious that I drove home, knowing the nurse told me to call a ride, but it's like I couldn't control the urge to just make it home and go to bed. I didn't realize that all of those symptoms were side effects of the medicine until I got home & started to tremble more & was unable to sleep. Since then, I've been having panic attacks & anxiety, muscle stiffness & twitches. DO NOT TAKE."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "OMG! This is the first time I have ever seen anyone else besides myself have an issue like this with Reglan. The first time I got it was while waiting to have surgery, and the longer I sat there, the more panic-stricken I became till I was just sure if I stayed I was going to die in surgery, so I pulled the IV, got dressed, and went home. When it wore off, I felt crazy, so I called the nurse at my surgery, and she said it happens frequently and we should try again using plain saline, not even Ringer's solution. I was fine the second time around. I also get it from Compazine, Phenergan, and Ativan. They call this reaction Akathisia. The ER gave me Cogentin and a couple of Xanax, and it was gone in 15 minutes. Awful, awful feeling!"

For Migraine "I'm 18 and had a lumbar puncture done on 12/29. I've had a severe migraine ever since, so on Tuesday, Children's Hospital told my mom to take me to the ER. Once there, they gave me this, and let me tell you, from someone who suffers from terrible panic attacks, this was genuinely one of the worst ones I've ever had. Ten minutes in, I started feeling restless and started moving and moving because I literally wanted to rip the IV out of my arm and run out. I got up and I started sobbing, and I felt like I was going to die. I really wanted to just rip the IV out, and I was terrified that I was going to. Mom had to call a nurse, and they gave me Benadryl, and that knocked me out. A day later, though, my severe migraine is back. Not worth it, guys. Nope."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was given a cocktail of Reglan and Benadryl for a migraine at the ER. Within no time, the migraine was gone, but a few minutes later, I got an awful panic attack. I thought I was going to die. I wanted to rip the IV out of my arm. When this happened, my boyfriend got the doctor, and she said this happens to about 50% of people. Since I'm so small, they started with only a half dose of Benadryl to make me sleep, but after I couldn't sleep because of the side effects from Reglan, they gave me the other half dose. I am lucky to have had my boyfriend there to get a nurse and calm me, and I'm lucky they could give me more Benadryl. I will not take this medicine again. If you have to take Reglan, bring someone to help you, but I suggest not taking this at all."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Reglan caused me to experience major anxiety and panic attacks within minutes of receiving it via IV. Made me feel like I was dying. The anxiety attacks took a few months to subside. Horrible drug, wouldn't recommend to anyone."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this in my IV while admitted for severe dehydration. Within 5 minutes, I had a full-blown panic attack that Xanax couldn't even touch. They did not tell me any of the side effects I have now read up on after that experience. I had to be discharged against medical advice because the attack was so severe I was going crazy in the room. I tried to rip my IV out from it bothering me so badly after that, and they luckily came and took it out. It all started with the IV making me feel insane. My whole arm that it was administered in felt like I wanted it gone from my body, that it was some foreign object touching me. I will never take this medicine again. I couldn't tell you if it helped the nausea or not because I ended up throwing up from the panic attack."

Metoclopramide for Lactation Augmentation "Was prescribed this for increasing my very low milk supply (I'm breastfeeding). I was excited because I feel horrible not being able to breastfeed my newborn. Took literally 2 or 3 pills over a couple of days and suddenly had severe chest pain, chest tightness/pressure, couldn’t breathe well, and had an anxiety/panic attack during the middle of the night. I’m 3 weeks postpartum and have struggled some with anxiety and heart palpitations (due to PVCs I’ve had forever just getting more elevated), so I assumed it was just postpartum related. But it got so bad I freaked and thought I had a pulmonary embolism or something since those can happen after birth. Went to the ER, had blood work done and a CT scan to rule out anything life-threatening. Got home just stumped... until I realized the only thing I’d done differently was take Reglan. Looked up these reviews and knew that’s exactly what caused it! Will NOT be finishing these."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Went into the ER for a migraine that was bothering me and had me leave school early. They didn’t explain much about the drug, but they gave it to me anyway with a combination of Benadryl. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had in my life. I was feeling anxious a few minutes after taking it, but I wasn’t expecting it to become the most horrifying and insufferable experience in my life. I felt like I was coming out of my skin and wanted to rip the IV out and the skin off my body. I had a panic attack that lasted a long time and couldn’t stop freaking out. I remember looking at the nurse and asking her, “What did you do to me?” as extreme paranoia and panic flooded through my mind. A doctor came by and offered Ativan to help. I couldn’t trust them and declined a few times, even though I am really into pharmacology and knew it would help, but my paranoia made me feel like they would give me something else and kill me. I ended up taking it, and it helped."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I went to the ER for a migraine that was lasting several weeks. They gave me Tylenol and Reglan (after having told them of my history of anxiety). Within minutes of the Reglan, I started to have the worst panic attack of my life. I couldn't keep my legs still, my whole body kept jerking, I wanted to rip out my IV and run, I was crying loudly, and I was pulling on my hair. My husband said I looked like the Exorcist. The ER doctor said that can happen if the nurse pushes the meds too quick, but the nurse denied doing that. They gave me a half dose of Benadryl, which did nothing, followed by another half dose. About an hour later, I was exhausted, no longer freaking out, but still occasionally twitching. Never again. I list it as a med allergy now. My anxiety is still increased 7 months later, and I don't know if this is to blame."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Just like many others have said, I was given this in the ER for nausea and vomiting. TERRIBLE!!!! Do NOT let a doctor give you this medicine!!!! It makes you feel mentally insane and violently ill! Your entire body shakes, intense muscle cramping and contortions, nerve pain, panic attacks, have the urge to rip out the IV and escape the hospital bed, dizzy, confusion, uncontrollable body movements. Like many others have said as well, this medication can truly be PTSD inducing, especially if you have a history of anxiety/depression. I thought I was insane until I saw the amount of people with the same bizarre side effects. And it didn't even touch my nausea or vomiting issue in the slightest! Can't believe this medication is even used still in ER or hospital settings. Stick to safe nausea medications like Zofran (ondansetron). The only one I trust, even if it doesn't always work. At least it won't drive you to insanity."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "This drug needs to be removed from the market. I experienced a concussion and was administered this medication intravenously in the emergency room for migraine and nausea. Immediately after receiving the drug, I felt dizzy and as though I was going to faint. Within minutes, my heart rate skyrocketed to 190 bpm, and I had the worst panic attack I have ever experienced, and I am a combat veteran. My entire body began shaking uncontrollably, and all of my muscles clenched up tightly. This continued for around 45 minutes. The medical staff provided Benadryl to 'reduce' the side effects, and the doctor informed me that 'those side effects are normal.' Are you kidding me? They did not even ask whether I had a history of anxiety or mental illness. Unfortunately, I suffer from anxiety disorder and PTSD, and this experience triggered a significant PTSD episode with crippling anxiety that persisted for over two months after taking this medication. If you have pre-existing anxiety, avoid this medication."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Yesterday, I went to the emergency room with severe vertigo that I had for three days prior, and a migraine had started two days after the vertigo. It was painful, it was the first time I ever went to an emergency room for a headache. They were very worried I could not walk due to the severe vertigo, so they decided to give me meclizine and Reglan in an IV drip and something for nausea. Within 10 minutes of the IV, I began shaking uncontrollably all over, and my muscles were twitching. My stomach was burning horribly, and I literally felt a panic so severe I thought I was dying. Finally, it became so bad the doctor gave me a Valium, and within 10 minutes, I felt back to normal. Reglan was the problem, and I NEVER want that feeling again!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "Please do not take! I wish someone had told me this, and I wish I had read the reviews. This drug, metoclopramide, gave me akathisia, something that I didn’t even know existed. This drug is poison. I couldn’t stop pacing, still restless, have horrible restless legs now, panic attacks constantly, anxiety. It’s been two months since, and still going."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Horrible, it’s been over 2 years, and I swear I have PTSD from it. I had it twice. The second time the nurse told me it was probably injected in the IV too quickly, that’s why it caused panic. She did it slowly, and within seconds the same thing happened: panic, anxiety, like my body was going to go nuts, but my head hurt so bad, and I felt sleepy, so it was this crazy internal battle. I’m afraid to take any medication now or go to the hospital with severe migraines, so I just suffer. How can these even be allowed to be administered to people? Worst experiences of my life."

For Migraine "Awful medication. I still can't get over the reaction I had to it. Went to the ER on Friday because I'm 9 months pregnant and my BP had skyrocketed. I only had a small headache, but they insisted on giving me this Reglan rubbish and Benadryl via IV. As soon as it went into my system, a nightmare broke loose. I felt dizzy, panicked, and started to shiver badly. Fight or flight kicked in, and I almost ripped the IV out. My poor husband just kept saying, 'just calm down.' Yeah, right... I was sure they were trying to kill me and my baby, and I just kept saying, 'I want to go home' and 'get this sh*t out of me, they're killing me.' Finally, the nurse came back, saw what was happening, and flushed the IV line, all while nonchalantly telling me about how another patient had this reaction and ripped their clothes off. Nice! I felt better after the flush in about 5 minutes. After this, I will insist on knowing what drugs they give me. No Reglan or metoclopramide ever. Ban this stuff!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "My daughter is 8 weeks pregnant and was prescribed Maxolon for morning sickness. A few hours after taking it, she had a feeling of anxiety and couldn't concentrate on anything. She was wandering aimlessly around the house, not knowing what to do. She would try to sit down but couldn't settle. Later that day, she experienced a full-blown panic attack. Couldn't breathe, trembling, cramps. She went straight to her doctor, who did not connect the symptoms to the medication. Her husband asked them to call the ambulance, however, the hospital did not make the connection either, sending her for a CT scan and blood tests. Over the next week or so, she was in a constant state of anxiety, unable to care properly for herself or her son. Unable to drive or be left alone. She had 2 more visits to her doctor, who diagnosed panic disorder and referred her to a psychologist. After doing our own research, she has stopped taking Maxolon and is beginning to feel normal again."

For Migraine "I was given this medicine in the ER for a horrible headache 2 years ago. My heart rate instantly shot up to 150, and I couldn't sit still. I wanted to rip my IV out. They pumped me full of Ativan to try and get me to calm down. My legs and toes started moving on their own, and they kept me in the hospital for 3 days!!! I now am plagued with horrible panic attacks, and my toes still move on their own. Never take this drug!"

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this drug Reglan while I was in labor. I was vomiting every 2-3 contractions and felt awful. Prior to receiving the medication, I was very calm and taking deep breaths through my contractions. Within minutes of receiving the IV Reglan, I had a HUGE anxiety attack and began flipping out, saying that I couldn’t do this anymore, just take the baby out. I was literally alligator rolling on the bed. I was in a full-blown panic attack. It took my husband and the nurse 10 minutes to calm me down, and I was still vomiting during contractions. The rest of my labor went fine, and I didn’t panic at any other point."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I received this medication for nausea while 39 weeks pregnant. I initially received Zofran, and when that didn’t work, they gave me Reglan. I was not informed of the side effects I would feel. I have really bad anxiety when it comes to side effects after receiving Benadryl through IV 2 years ago. My IV site was infiltrated, and the Benadryl leaked into my bloodstream. Since then, I’m anxious about receiving anything other than fluids through IV. Anyway, they gave me the Reglan. After 10 mins, I was inconsolable. I couldn’t find a comfortable spot. I started to breathe faster, I felt under the influence almost. An extreme panic attack. I was trying to keep myself from shaking. I got chills. I told my husband to hug me (he usually does this when I have an anxiety-induced attack). He had to hug me for 15 minutes. If he let go, I just kept getting up and down. I wanted to cry, I felt like screaming, I felt like jumping out of my own skin. I kept telling myself to relax. It was crazy."

For Gastroparesis "My stomach doctor put me on this medicine. Having tons of trouble with my stomach since my gallbladder and gastric sleeve surgery. I am in constant pain. I take Prozac for PTSD, depression, and anxiety. I am willing to try new meds. This stuff made my skin crawl. I had the worst panic attack I have ever experienced. It made my stomach hurt worse. Felt dizzy and couldn't think right. Gave me a bad headache. Worst ever. I was taken to the ER where I was given Ativan and then some Valium. Stopped taking it, and within a few days, everything was okay."

For Migraine "I'm so relieved to know I'm not alone with this awful 'migraine cocktail.' I suffer from chronic migraine and had one so bad last week I went to the ER. I told them I'd been twice before for debilitating migraines, and dilaudid was the best solution. Instead, they gave me a cocktail of Reglan, Benadryl, and Toradol. They injected the whole dose at once, and I had the worst uncomfortable, restless, panicky feeling I've ever had. I thought it was Benadryl making me tired, but after reading all the reviews on here, it has to be the Reglan. Refuse this terrible drug, even for anti-nausea. I was so restless I almost ripped out the IV. Worst experience ever!"
