Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Was given Reglan in the ER for dehydration caused by hyperemesis in pregnancy. Within a few minutes, I wanted to rip out my IV and run out of the hospital. I felt so exhausted but couldn’t control my body movements and just wanted to run away. It was terrifying. They gave me IV Benadryl soon after, and that helped a lot. The Reglan helped my nausea and vomiting so much. They gave me a script for home, but I will definitely be taking it with a dose of Benadryl. Hoping that’s enough to counteract these horrible side effects in the future. Be VERY CAREFUL with this medication. Make sure they have an order for Benadryl to use in case you have these side effects. And make sure the nurse pushes it very slowly if administering through an IV."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this medication for nausea at the ER while I was about 9 weeks pregnant because the Zofran didn't work. Worse reaction of my life. I jumped up and started passing out on the floor, felt like I needed to crawl out of my skin. My heart rate was tachycardia. It was worse than the nausea, and it didn't help. I did get it through an IV with Benadryl because they said it makes people want to crawl out of their skin. Not worth it even with severe nausea."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was diagnosed with 'Chronic Migraine Disease' 18 yrs. ago. I have tried too many medications to list. Almost all of which have not worked for me. About 9 yrs. ago, during a trip to the emergency for a migraine, I had the worst nausea. I was given Reglan for the first time. Not only did it stop the nausea, it calmed my migraine down! I wasn't even given any Dilaudid. I couldn't believe it! I was later prescribed Reglan along with Maxalt. This combo worked the best for me. However, my doctor quit using Maxalt. So, while searching for new meds, my doctor gave me a prescription of Reglan to at least help with the nausea. Not only did it help with that, but if caught early enough, it would stop my migraines. I love Reglan!"

Metoclopramide for Gastroparesis "This medicine is a nightmare! Took the pills today to get rid of yucky burps and nausea. Started feeling even more queasy, then my chest felt like it was going to explode. Got sleepy and jittery at the same time and had anxiety through the roof. Hours later, still feeling mildly crazy, and all it took was 10 mg. It fixed the symptoms but wasn't worth the side effects. Don't do this to yourself. Stay away!"

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "OMG! This is the first time I have ever seen anyone else besides myself have an issue like this with Reglan. The first time I got it was while waiting to have surgery, and the longer I sat there, the more panic-stricken I became till I was just sure if I stayed I was going to die in surgery, so I pulled the IV, got dressed, and went home. When it wore off, I felt crazy, so I called the nurse at my surgery, and she said it happens frequently and we should try again using plain saline, not even Ringer's solution. I was fine the second time around. I also get it from Compazine, Phenergan, and Ativan. They call this reaction Akathisia. The ER gave me Cogentin and a couple of Xanax, and it was gone in 15 minutes. Awful, awful feeling!"

Metoclopramide for GERD "I have acid reflux for 10 years and have been on every PPI and H2 blocker on the market. Nothing worked. Did test after test, nothing was found. Started getting nausea (extreme nausea), and nothing helped. Finally, my doc prescribed me Reglan (mind you, she said she only uses this as a last resort before surgery is considered), and BAM! Worked amazingly. I still take Zantac to help against small bouts of reflux, but Reglan has helped me gain control back of my life! I had side effects at first (nothing major, I just felt restlessness in my legs), but they eventually went away! 10/10 100% recommend!"

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Just like many others have said, I was given this in the ER for nausea and vomiting. TERRIBLE!!!! Do NOT let a doctor give you this medicine!!!! It makes you feel mentally insane and violently ill! Your entire body shakes, intense muscle cramping and contortions, nerve pain, panic attacks, have the urge to rip out the IV and escape the hospital bed, dizzy, confusion, uncontrollable body movements. Like many others have said as well, this medication can truly be PTSD inducing, especially if you have a history of anxiety/depression. I thought I was insane until I saw the amount of people with the same bizarre side effects. And it didn't even touch my nausea or vomiting issue in the slightest! Can't believe this medication is even used still in ER or hospital settings. Stick to safe nausea medications like Zofran (ondansetron). The only one I trust, even if it doesn't always work. At least it won't drive you to insanity."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I have had nausea for years, and nothing worked, so my doctor gave me Reglan. At first, it worked, and I was so happy, then the side effects blasted in! I have never been sicker in my life. I was unable to get out of bed. I lost my mind for a long time. I even named the sides of my bed. The right side was chocolate, and the left was vanilla! I could not get comfortable. I lost around 100 lbs because I couldn't eat. My kids thought I had gone crazy. THEN the worst side effect, Tardive Dyskinesia, set in. It is an untreatable disease that caused crazy facial tics and body movements. This disease NEVER goes away. I have been bedbound for 8 years because of this drug! DON'T TAKE IT!!! It has a black label that warns of the horrible side effect."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this in my IV while admitted for severe dehydration. Within 5 minutes, I had a full-blown panic attack that Xanax couldn't even touch. They did not tell me any of the side effects I have now read up on after that experience. I had to be discharged against medical advice because the attack was so severe I was going crazy in the room. I tried to rip my IV out from it bothering me so badly after that, and they luckily came and took it out. It all started with the IV making me feel insane. My whole arm that it was administered in felt like I wanted it gone from my body, that it was some foreign object touching me. I will never take this medicine again. I couldn't tell you if it helped the nausea or not because I ended up throwing up from the panic attack."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was in the ER last night for a severe migraine attack. The doctor asked what I normally get, and that's Toradol, Zofran, and steroids through IV. They came in with this Toradol, Reglan, Benadryl mix. Literally, 2 minutes after the meds were administered, I felt the need to jump out of the bed and just go home. I was burning up inside, restless, and still had the headache. So when I see other people posting almost the exact same thing, I totally get it. The National Headache Society did a study, Benadryl is actually one of the drugs NOT recommended to treat migraines. I was told Reglan treated the 'pain.' Nope, it actually just controls the nausea by getting your stomach to empty/process the contents faster. I had the same migraine when I woke up. Now the Toradol I know helped, it usually does to some degree. But getting a steroid shot/injection is usually what keeps the migraine from returning. Personally, I just don't think the doctor had a lot of knowledge regarding the treatment of migraines."

For Gastroparesis "Was on Reglan for years, but as I have gotten older, I have seen issues with effectiveness and really set back over the last 2 to 3 years. Very discouraging, and the nausea took away all appetite, so I have had weight issues and inconsistent blood sugar started to take hold much more, up and down. In Feb of this year, I started taking a spray, 15 mg Gimoti metoclopramide, and it has given me better results than ever with oral metoclopramide."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I went to the hospital for a migraine and vomiting. Within seconds of administering the IV of Reglan, I sat straight up, couldn't stop rocking back and forth, felt like I was losing my mind and wanted to run out of there until my legs fell off. I was begging for help. It really does feel like you are being tortured. I remember looking over at the clock, and it was 2:00 in the morning, thinking 'why didn't I just stay home and suck it up,' but at least now I know. I had a similar experience with Compazine (also used for nausea)."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I’ve had migraines for over 30 years. It took a few ER visits for me to realize that Reglan took away my nausea, took the edge off my pain (never completely took it away), but made me paranoid and anxious!!!!! I tell them I’m allergic because I will never take it again. Toradol is great! The injection burns, but the migraine relief begins in less than 10 minutes. Pain is gone in 20 minutes. I ask for it by name!!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was first given Reglan after my third bowel obstruction surgery, and it worked very quickly. I was on it three times a day for three years. The long-term use caused nausea, 50 lb weight loss, visual disturbances, fatigue, Parkinson-like shaking, suicidal thoughts, and irritability. I would not recommend this to anyone."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Last night, I was in the ER for nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. Reglan was added after Zofran and meclizine didn’t totally resolve symptoms. Same as others, I experienced the worst agitation of my life. Screaming, thrashing, begging them to knock me unconscious. It was horrific. They gave me Ativan and Benadryl, eventually, I fell asleep. They said, oh, some people react this way. I can’t believe they continue to use a drug that does this."

Metoclopramide for Gastroparesis "68-year-old male in relatively good health. After having my gallbladder removed 10 years ago, my digestive tract causes a painful 'tightness' in my chest and nausea every time I eat. I just completed 10 days of Reglan pills (5 mg 4x per day) and feel much better. Tightness gone, nausea 85% gone. Mood lightened. Quality of life improved. Too bad 'pharma' can't come up with a version of Reglan for longer-term use. Looks like I'm going to have to 'cycle' to avoid TD symptoms. Still taking omeprazole every other day for acid control."

Metoclopramide for GERD "I was prescribed this medicine for GERD. I had not been able to eat or drink anything for a couple of days, so I was feeling pretty terrible anyway. After I started to take this medicine, I became extremely depressed and anxious. I could not stay awake for more than 20 minutes at a time, and that entire time I was so nauseous I didn't want to be awake. I had terrible back pain, and I was shaking like I had been out in the Arctic. Finally, my dad told me not to take the Reglan and to see what happened. I skipped my 10 P.M. dose and woke up about 10 A.M. the next day. I felt completely fine, other than my back was still sore. I lost three days of my life to this drug, and I can't believe a medicine that is supposed to help you can do so much harm."

For Migraine "Had a horrible, horrible headache for 3 days, so I called a doctor I knew. I told him I can't open my eyes, I'm dizzy, and my head hurts so bad, and I'm nauseated and hardly can stand up or see. He said go to the ER now, so I called my mom. When we got to the hospital, I walked into a glass door, didn't even see it or feel it, just know my head was pounding. Once I got in back, they gave me a cocktail of Toradol, Benadryl, and Reglan. Within 30 minutes, my blood pressure was down from 199/100 to 130/77, and the headache was gone. I felt the weight lifted off my head. Thank you, RN at SRMC. I will remember that cocktail always."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I went to urgent care because my nausea has been unmanageable. I don’t throw up all day like I did with my first born, but the nausea makes it impossible to really eat or even take sips of water. I threw up my water yesterday, and it was the final straw, sending me to UC. The doctor ordered 2L of NS and a Reglan push. I too felt like taking the IV out of my arm, but I was also uncomfortable and shaking because, of course, the NS doesn’t feel so comfortable entering your body. I felt pretty ill for 15 minutes, then I knocked out. Honestly, after, I felt way better. The nausea was nonexistent, and I actually had an appetite where I was craving foods again. I didn’t want to take Reglan, but I’ve tried all the tips and tricks one can do. I do not want to take it again just because I don’t like taking medication during pregnancy, but it really helped. Today I’m back to barely having any appetite, for both food and water."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was prescribed Reglan during my first pregnancy for hyperemesis gravidarum, and now I have to get an allergy band every time I go for medical treatment. Within half an hour, I began to experience uncontrollable muscle spasms, and although I only took this medication once in the morning, the spasms did not completely go away for a full 12 hours. During this time, I felt extremely nervous - like I wanted to unzip my skin and run away. Reglan did absolutely nothing to curb my extreme nausea and vomiting. Thankfully, my baby was unaffected."

For Migraine "I was given the IV 'migraine cocktail' also when in the ER for a severe migraine. The nurse told me the Benadryl could make my chest feel heavy and possibly anxious. Benadryl was pushed slowly via IV, and I started feeling relaxed and sleepy. THEN came the Reglan! After the Reglan was administered, my relaxed, sleepy state reversed, and I felt like I wanted to rip the IV out of my arm. I felt so hot, like I was boiling from the inside out. I was so nauseous, my heart rate went way up. I was in full panic mode, feeling like I made a huge mistake!!! I told my husband to get the nurse, and when he finally found him, he did nothing for me except tell me to calm down! Ugh... Never again will I put myself through that. Reglan... NO THANKS!"

For Migraine "Same as with all the others. Went to the ER for a bad migraine and was given Reglan, Benadryl, Toradol, and a steroid (dexamethasone). The nurse said the Reglan was to stop the nausea and the Benadryl was to “help” the Reglan work. Almost immediately, I began shaking uncontrollably. Everyone thought I was having an extreme panic attack and kept telling me to try to calm down, but I couldn’t stop myself from shaking. It was worse in my legs than anywhere else, and I was really restless, rolling from side to side. I eventually was able to “fall asleep” for about 30 minutes (it wasn’t really sleeping, more like semi-conscious passed out) and the shaking subsided. Still, it was pretty unpleasant. And to top it all off, the migraine came back within 24 hours. Sumatriptan/Imitrex works great for me, so I will insist on it next time I wind up in the hospital for a migraine. I don’t know why they didn’t just use it this time around. The whole Reglan experience was pretty awful."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Had a myelogram on a Friday. By Sunday, I had the worst headache in my life! Tried to get through the pain, but by Monday morning, I was told to go to the ER. I told them I had a spinal headache, not my typical migraine. They gave me IV fentanyl, which calmed it for 20 minutes. They then gave me the 'cocktail' of Benadryl, Reglan, and Toradol. Within minutes, I was shaking violently and couldn't control it. It made me so nauseated. I thought I was going to either have a seizure or a heart attack! It didn't give me any relief at all-not even sleepy. After several unsuccessful pages to anesthesia for a blood patch, I said I had enough and wanted out of there (after more than 6 hours in the ER)."
