For Crohn's Disease, Maintenance "Asacol had no impact on my Crohn's flare-ups at all. Until the biologic medicines came out, I had no relief at all. I suggest starting with a mild drug like this but to realize that there are so many more options available today if this does not help."

For Crohn's Disease "I have been on Asacol for 7 years and have only minor flare-ups. I have had 3 'flares' in 7 years, so I am a fan of Asacol. I take the max dose of 12 per day. I also have colitis. Thanks to insurance, my cost is ONLY $200 a month."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 10 days ago. Started 800 mg, 2 tablets, 3 times/day, plus suppository at night. Diarrhea quickly went down to once a day instead of eight times. Experiencing fatigue, slight nausea, and seem to be developing acne."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I've been on Asacol 12 pills/day (4 pills, 3x/day), and I've been experiencing headaches at least 2x/week. Also, I've had side effects of fatigue & acne. Whether or not these side effects can be completely blamed on the last 4-5 months of Asacol use, who really knows. But Asacol has helped control my symptoms almost completely."

For Crohn's Disease, Maintenance "My son has Crohn's disease and has done very well on the Asacol. He has no complaints and shows no side effects. He has taken as many as nine tablets per day at one time. I've been very happy with the results, reducing his bouts of diarrhea drastically."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "It seems that Asacol is not effective when colitis is active because the coating is too thick. I took 2 tablets, after 6 hours in my body, 2 tablets came out in my diaper and the coating is still intact. I hope the manufacturer will make a thinner coating because the mathematical computation of delayed release does not match reality."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Maintenance "I am 58 and have had colitis for 16 years. I take Asacol every day, two to three times daily, and I do not get any side effects, but I do not find they help when it flares up, but keeps it under control when trying to get on with life!!! My flare-up has lasted three months as yet, but I am told it will go!!!"

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "It has been very helpful in controlling my UC. I have been taking it since my last episode along with prednisone, and it has been a lifesaver. I have had no real side effects except extra secretion of saliva, but I am starting to feel much better since starting these medicines."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Maintenance "I have had UC since I was 14 and now 64. Have had numerous flare-ups through this period, but have been very well looked after by consultants and have regular check-ups. Been well for years now, but am now experiencing a bout of I think proctitis, mucus, and wind and running to the toilet. Not due to the consultant for a few months. Started taking Asacol foam enema and am obviously intolerant, as it does not stay in and causes even more mucus. Need to change enemas. Had this now for a few months, need to change to Prednisolone enema. Or has anyone else found something that works well? A call to the consultant is required, I think."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Maintenance "Over the last 6 months since I was diagnosed with UC, I've tried as much as 4.8 g/day of Asacol: alone, with prednisone, with Imuran, IV steroids, and enema cortisol. So far, I've only had luck with the prednisone. This stuff does not work at all for me."

For Ulcerative Colitis "I was diagnosed 6 months ago with colitis. I started taking Asacol 400 mg 3x a day. I felt great immediately after the 3rd pill. No diarrhea for 2 whole days! Last night, my stomach started that weird rumbling noise. About an hour later, I had a severe headache! One of the worst I have ever had! I was on my 10th pill. One of the side effects of this medication. Be careful, always call your doctor if you have any side effects with this medication. I stopped taking this medicine, it did not work for me."

For Crohn's Disease, Maintenance "Had Crohn's/colitis for years, been on Asacol for the past 16 years, started with three pills three times daily for almost a year, then 3 tablets twice daily with breakfast and dinner. Still have few flares, but otherwise decent. No side effects."

For Ulcerative Colitis "This medicine didn’t even help me find remission. It’s not a good choice, in my opinion, for anyone with colitis that extends throughout the entire colon and rectum. Might be good for people with sigmoid, but not pancolitis."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I am taking Asacol for the last 4 years, and I am still having problems with gas and a full stomach, with or without eating or drinking. I am having inflammation in the body, increasing weight, and increasing prolactin (milk), not focusing well, and discomfort."

For Ulcerative Colitis "Sadly, I was one of the 8% of users who are allergic to Asacol, and I got very ill before the nurses suggested it may be the drug making my condition worse. Within a week of using Asacol, my C-reactive protein (CRP) blood test readings started to rise steadily from an already high score of 16 until at six weeks of still taking the drug, they reached 100. I was using the bathroom 5 times in an hour some nights and dropped weight rapidly. As soon as they thought I may have an allergy, I was told to stop taking them and went onto a decreasing dosage of steroids instead. By the time I finished the steroids, my CRP tests were normal."

For Crohn's Disease "Been taking this for 23 years - was doing quite well for a long time 4-6 x 400 mg daily. No longer working - had bowel perforation and chronic pains in large bowel and caecum. I've been on and off steroids for a year, so trying azathioprine next week. Bloods returned anaemic, low B12, so having injections. Also low TPMT - heterozygous (patients with low activity of TPMT are at a heightened risk of drug-induced bone marrow toxicity due to accumulation of the unmetabolized drug), so can only take low dose of aza. It is important to get checked for this before you start azathioprine. Let’s hope it works!! Sick of being sick and struggling to work."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Maintenance "I was diagnosed with indeterminate UC in February 2017. Since then, I am taking Asacol 800 mg, 3 tablets a day. I am not sure, but I think that the flaking rashes on my face are due to this medicine's side effect. And they hardly ever disappear. And when they do, I have them back after a few days. I was prescribed different products, none of them worked. Never had this issue before, only after I started taking Asacol."
