For Underactive Thyroid "I was put on Cytomel for drug-resistant depression by my psych. It worked great for several years, then the pharma company started buying from Canada, who bought it from India. I went downhill like a sack of rocks. Then I couldn’t get Cytomel at all and was put on generic liothyronine. It got bad enough with energy, jitters, and cognition that I now have home healthcare. Finally, after two months of not having any, I felt better. Not great by a long shot. I got a new bottle that I had hidden and started taking it again. Just like when switched to generic, I stay freezing cold for several hours, then start sweating. I think I’m going off."

Liothyronine for Underactive Thyroid "Palpitations even at a small 5 mcg dose. I would use Taurine to offset palps.. Itchy pin-like sensations on arms after 1 year of use! Like needles coming out of skin! It took about 3 weeks off use to get rid of it. I use natural desiccated NP hormone during the Cytomel."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been on dual therapy, BRAND NAME ONLY Synthroid and Cytomel, for 2 years after battling hypo symptoms, dosages, and generics for 12 previous years. NBO Cytomel is unavailable evidently until 2/19, so I started generic liothyronine (Signapharm) about 6 days ago. Awoke 2 days ago with terrible hives/rash all over and severe and very scary facial swelling. Urgent care gave me a steroid injection and suggested Benadryl, which helped immensely, but symptoms are lingering. Totally at sea now as to what to do. Might try another generic as that seems logical, and I know from a previous episode that without T3 for very long, I'll crash face first."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had complete thyroidectomy in 2012 and was put on Synthroid 175 mcgs. My TSH was completely suppressed, which is fine, no issues. But I could not lose the weight and still felt fatigued. Last week, I asked to have Cytomel added to my Synthroid. This new doctor (I had moved to another state) dropped my Synthroid from 175 mcgs to 137 mcgs and added 10 mcgs of Cytomel. It has been a week, and I feel horrible. I asked the doctor to up the Synthroid to at least 150 mcg, and she refused. I am finding a different endocrinologist. I want to give Cytomel a fighting chance, but the drop in Synthroid was far too much too quick."

For Underactive Thyroid "1st time user. Hashimoto's diagnosis. Dr. prescribed 10 mcg per day. Having a bad feeling about the dose, I took only half of the dose, and I am glad I did because the side effects were immediate and strong. My heart was racing, I couldn't concentrate at all, as if I had ADHD. I've been extremely thirsty despite appropriate hydration. Day 2, and now I have a rash on my legs and torso. I am quitting this treatment right now."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "After diagnosis of Grave's disease, I was given Synthroid. Took this alone for 20 years. Dosage was lowered from 0.150 to 0.125 when thought to be causing irregular heartbeat. Had an 'oblation' of nerves around heart area that was causing irregular beating and remained on 0.125 dosage feeling better. A new endocrinologist had me add liothyronine in a custom 'compound' dosage of 2.5 mcg and lowered Synthroid to 0.112. One measurement was high, the other low, hoping to balance the two. Didn't feel a lot of improvement. Noticed I was more irritable with an upset stomach. Tried it for 2 months but quit-wasn't happy with it. I've started taking it again and have small improvements in mental clarity, regularity, but get migraines."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have had hypothyroidism for 20 years, and it caused my hair to fall out in clumps and caused swelling, especially my face, which made me feel self-conscious. I am now taking liothyronine (T3) along with levothyroxine. It made a huge difference within a week of taking it. My face is back to normal, and I couldn't be happier just with that alone. My hair stopped falling out from the first day of taking it. If anyone is struggling, just don't give up and keep asking different doctors that are willing to help. It is very expensive even with my insurance, but well worth it in my opinion."

For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking Sigmapharm brand liothyronine. Almost immediately, I got terrible tremors that last for hours. I was taking a very low dose, 25 mcg. After a week, I also got a hypoglycemia attack, and I am not diabetic. Discontinuing and going to try Perrigo brand liothyronine."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "So this is kind of more of a question for other liothyronine (I take 25 mcg 2X daily on an empty stomach) users. So I am about 5 weeks or so since having a thyroidectomy, and as soon as I was awake from surgery, I was on liothyronine. Did anyone in the beginning have hot flashes and tremors in hands (I’ve had these since I was a kid)? And also, is there a real difference between generic and brand name? If so, why? Thank you in advance!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Cytomel is a godsend medication... If your thyroid is removed and you're suffering from hypothyroidism, don't take Synthroid. It makes your hypothyroidism worse. Or don't mix it. Just stay with Cytomel and wait for the magic to work immediately."
