Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "By far, the best T4 brand. I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism while in Germany. There, I was given Euthyrox - which was absolutely terrible. So terrible that I decided it was better to stop taking the drug and face all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. It's worth mentioning that a class action suit against Merck, the German laboratory responsible for Euthyrox, was successful in France. Now, back home, my endocrinologist changed my medication to Synthroid (same active substance, different brand), and she also told me that many patients had faced the same thing while on Euthyrox. It's been a bit more than 6 months, and I'm feeling absolutely fantastic. Depression is gone, hair loss is gone, lost tons of weight. Recently, I had my dosage reduced from 200mcg to 175mcg. I take it systematically every day right after waking up on an empty stomach. Really changed my life. + I'm also taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg (for 7 years now) and cholecalciferol. No interactions or heart palpitations."

For Underactive Thyroid "Levothyroxine is awful. I've been taking it for 7 years, and the side effects (nausea, brain fog, depression, PVCs, PACs, air hunger, muscle twitching, muscle pain, and stiffness, headaches) began 5 weeks after starting it. I've been up and down the TSH range, and nothing helps. The horrible side effects are worse than the disease. I've tried Mylan, JSP, Sandoz, and Tirosint. Endocrinologists are only concerned with TSH, with no capability for critical thinking. If all that matters is keeping TSH within range while ignoring everything else, this can be more effectively done by a computer. If you want to remove all quality of life, this is the drug for you."

Levothyroxine for Hashimoto's disease "I have been on 2 different dosages of Synthroid for almost 20 years. In January of 2009, my doctor decided to take me off 1 of my dosages, that was the worst experience of my life. I went into withdrawals, fatigue, and depression all over again. I am now just getting back on my other dosage, keeping my fingers crossed it will all work out for the best again."

"It kept me alive, barely. I struggled with depression, rage, mood swings, suicidal ideation, chronic lethargy, constipation, and body aches, etc., for 30 years! I switched to natural desiccated thyroid, and life is worth living now."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "More recently, I got put on a generic and have had lots of problems! My life has been miserable! I have a different PCP, and these people do not seem very knowledgeable regarding thyroid (which I believe is very common). At the same time, I was also under a lot of stress, so I thought the stress was causing my symptoms, except the stress is over and the symptoms are still there and getting worse and worse. I was taking good care of myself, eating well, getting lots of exercise, taking supplements, etc., but everything I was doing was not helping. Saw my PCP, and she is putting me back on Levoxyl. This was an awful experience. My heart rate was very low, I was extremely cold, I lost about half of my hair, and my skin was extremely dry no matter how much cream I put on it. And a lot of other symptoms too. Depression was bad. Joint pain and stiffness. I had swelling under my eyes, and my hands were swollen. And at the end, I was extremely fatigued. The rating is for the generic medication."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been on this medication for 5.5 years, and at first, I'd felt great. Things were going well until 3 years ago when I'd started having side effects. Weight gain every year (10 lbs), even though I'd worked out and ate pretty healthy, couldn't sleep, depression got worse, mood swings, sometimes I wouldn't have a period, extreme fatigue, brittle nails, and muscle ache. Every time I'd taken blood work, the test came out fine. I'd gotten tested for everything else and nothing seems to work. Just recently, I'd started crying myself to sleep because of the mood swings. I'm also falling asleep while driving because no amount of sleep keeps me up. I'd finally done more research because my doctor only suggested two medications. I'm calling today."
