Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Tirosint is the lesser of all the evils for me. When my levels are good (below a 2), then I feel wonderful and am functioning well. If they dip, I feel like everything goes haywire. If I'm too suppressed, my period goes crazy. Serious anxiety in the form of obsessive worrying. If my dose is too low, my period just stops, my face puffs up. I can't sleep. Neurological issues. Acne. I do better having my levels checked every 3 months. I skip my dose on lab day and take it immediately afterwards. This has kept me pretty close to the 2 range. I'm a woman, so healthcare professionals disregard me and my symptoms, so I'm just writing this hoping it will help another woman."

Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Brand name only! Levoxyl brought me back to life after being on Synthroid for the past 6 years. I was on Levoxyl since my thyroidectomy, then was forced to switch to Synthroid when it was recalled. On Synthroid, I was barely functioning, horribly depressed, very tired, moody, painful heavy periods, horrible thoughts, migraines, and motion sickness all the time! Miserable! I finally told my Dr I want to get back on Levoxyl. Thank GOD I did, almost immediately all the bad symptoms stopped and I feel amazing! I’m back to the land of the living! If you are feeling like I did on Synthroid, do not hesitate and switch to BRAND NAME Levoxyl!"

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "For the first few years, I had my OB/GYN monitoring my thyroid and adjusting my Levothyroxine… What a mistake! I never felt good, and come to find out, he was doing it wrong. Not doing the right test to monitor my levels and decreasing my dose when he should've been increasing. I started to see an endocrinologist, and WOW! What a difference. He switched me to name-brand Synthroid only (which made a difference) and checks my levels twice a year to make sure I'm on the correct dose. I feel amazing for the first time in years!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I have hypothyroid but still have my thyroid. So Levo works well for me. Lowers my TSH and even aided in weight loss. I always have better bowel movements when taking this medication. It stopped my hair from stripping out. BUT, at first, it did cause my heart to race when I was bumped up to 0.75, and it does cause fatigue. I would get really sweaty when I started taking the 0.75. I see now why they don't want you taking this if you've been experiencing heart attack symptoms because boy did this make me feel like I was having one. Only issues I had with taking 0.50 were the fatigue, but my TSH was steady going down. The side effects have subsided. Guess I just needed to stick it out. I feel better on levothyroxine than without it. It works. Prayers for healing for us all <3"

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "I was on a low dose for 2 weeks and developed a rash and sore throat. I thought it was a virus. After 2 more weeks, I developed a severe headache, neck pain, and dizziness. Stopped the medication 5 days ago and am still having issues, but the severe headache is less. Not sure how long it will be before it is all out of my system."

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "Great medication for those who have absorption issues (Celiac, dairy intolerances, etc.) and no T3 conversion problems. On that note, you will find that a specific dose of Tirosint will feel much higher than that same dose in regular Levothyroxine, for example. As a gel cap with no fillers, more medication is able to absorb into your system. Start with a much lower dose than you think you need and work your way up. Over the past 10 years, I've tried Armour Thyroid, NP Thyroid, NatureThroid, Levothyroxine, and Synthroid. With all the other medications, I always felt like I was constantly increasing my dose. At one point, I was on 200 mcg of Levothyroxine. I'm now taking 25 mcg of Tirosint 5-6 days a week. My levels have never been as 'steady' as they are with Tirosint, and it's nice to know I only need a small dose of it as opposed to depending on such a large dose on a daily basis. The only downside is the price, but it makes a world of difference."

Levothyroxine for Hashimoto's disease "I've been on Synthroid for over 15 years due to Hashimoto's Disease and also partial thyroidectomy due to a nodule. For anyone who is on the medication and says they are feeling depressed, tired, etc., check into the symptoms of hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's disease as it may be that your medication is not at the right dose. My doctor considers 'normal' TSH to be between 1 and 3, while the AMA lists it as between 1 and 5. When I am at a 4, I do not feel well and have all the symptoms. DON'T just STOP taking this medication on your own as you can have severe side effects. GO back to your doctor and discuss how you feel. I cannot take the generics as they do not work for me. Only SYNTHROID for me! (I'm on 225 a day!)"

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been taking levothyroxine for a week and a half now, and before it, I would fall asleep at work, when I was driving, or just watching TV. There was a time that I went through 5 different sleep medications in 2 months to try and figure out the right one because nothing was working for me. My whole body ached, and worst of all, my hair was falling out. The first couple of days taking the medication, my body ached really bad, but it got better. I lost 12 pounds already, and my hair stopped falling out. I am also able to get through the day without falling asleep, and because I don't fall asleep during the day, I get tired during the night! I love it."

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "While it brought the TSH into the appropriate range, the exhaustion, lethargy, constipation, etc. was unbearable. For 20 hours out of the day, felt drowsy, unmotivated, and sleepy. This is no way to live. Got on Tirosint and what a difference."

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "I've been on Synthroid (Levothyroxine) for about a year and a half now. They've changed my dose 4 times so far and I'm currently at 100 mcg. Once they keep me on a dose for a bit, I feel okay, but with every change I have a few annoying side effects. I can say that if you take it every day like you're supposed to, it will work eventually. You have to be patient, it won't make you feel great right away. It took me about 3 months. But it helped with my lethargy, weight, and even depression. It's pretty good if you take it as prescribed. If you stop taking it suddenly, the effects of hypothyroidism come back pretty quickly and severely, so I recommend taking it as your doctor states."

Levothyroxine for Hashimoto's disease "I was prescribed Tirosint-SOL in May 2020 for Hashimoto's disease. The first month was fine with slight heart racing at night. Then on July 1, I had chest pains during the night. I stopped taking Tirosint and called my doctor. At first, I thought it was COVID-19, and I got tested - it was negative. I stopped taking all thyroid medicine. I had chest pains throughout July. Well, long story short, I had an emergency triple bypass operation on July 27. I am 65 years old and without any other health issues. I do NOT recommend this medication. The side effects can be awful. I do not want anyone to go through this experience."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2017, just after the school year started, which was a few months before I turned 16. At the time, I felt really tired all the time, I felt envious of my classmates who seemed to be able to run circles around me, literally. My mom became concerned when I never got my period, so she took me to see a doctor. They ordered labs, and what do you know, I have an underactive thyroid. They immediately started me on Levothyroxine, I believe my original dose was 50 mcg, and I felt better within a month, and got my period for the first time the day before my 17th birthday, in late November. I suddenly had the energy to keep up with my friends, I wasn't freezing cold all of the time, and I felt normal, which I hadn't even realized I was missing out on, but now know how huge the difference is. I have zero side effects on this medication."

Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been on Tirosint for 21 months along with a T3 only med. But for the past month, I have been exhibiting hypo symptoms when nothing else has changed. This is for the 100 mcg dosage. I called the number on the box and reported my symptoms. The woman said she has been getting other complaints recently, too. What's important to note is that in December 2018, Tirosint changed distributors. I think there is a batch consistency issue. I am sleeping 12 hours a night, having depression (nothing changed in my life), increased joint pain, and severe fatigue. The only reason I rated it an 8 is because for the first year and a half, with the old distributor, I had no issues. I REALLY don't want to change thyroid meds again. That would be devastating."

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "Originally, my doctor put me on Levothyroxine when I first had symptoms of hypothyroidism. I continued to have the symptoms and ended up putting on a total of 43 lb! I then asked to see an endocrinologist and begged them to put me on Nature-Throid. Due to my persistence, they put me on 82.75 mcg of Nature-Throid. After 3 weeks of it in my system, I began to have energy again, stomach aches went away, slept better, and was able to work out daily again! My new endocrinologist insisted that Synthroid was better than Nature-Throid, so I will switch to Synthroid. Unfortunately, stomach aches and fatigue came back. Synthroid and Levothyroxine don't help."

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "Can't find a middle ground after using this med for 2 years. (Stopping, starting, readjusting dosage, etc.) My symptoms of hypothyroidism cross into symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and I'm stuck feeling like rubbish and not knowing what to do now. (I'm 51 years old, post-menopause.) I'm so tired of feeling bad."

Levothyroxine for TSH Suppression "I was given Euthyrox 50 mcg by Walmart instead of my usual thyroid medication. My doctors did not request Euthyrox or that the medication should be changed. I have been taking Euthyrox for 3 months and have experienced hives/welts on my left neck hairline and lower back. I am also experiencing headaches that are different from other headaches, along with joint and back pain. I may be a coincidence, but have requested Walmart to refill to my original prescription."

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "Very similar to other reviews offered. I was switched by Walmart to Euthyrox from Levothyroxine back in June. I didn't question the change (I should have and researched). I've had three primary side effects, which are sleeplessness, daily headaches, and weight gain (approximately 20 lbs in 5 months). I actually was issued Levothyroxine today as my refill. I had asked to speak with the pharmacist prior to noting the change back, so apparently Walmart got the message. When I got home, I decided to research and was somewhat relieved to read the other reviews. This is by far the worst medication I have ever taken."

For Underactive Thyroid "Had to rate this a 10. My lethargy and depression feel non-existent. Been on medication for 2 weeks. I also feel like my appetite is normal, it's been out of control for a couple of years. Also, so surprised my joints aren't as stiff, about 60% improved. I have lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks, without even exercising."

For Underactive Thyroid "Just diagnosed, my TSH has been in the 20s-30s, my T3 and T4 are at the low low range. Doctor says I have subclinical hypothyroidism. I refused the medicine for a month, lost 15 pounds, ate healthy, exercised, quit smoking, and was perfect. Unfortunately, TSH did NOT change. Started the medicine -- felt euphoric first few days. Around day 5... I felt like something was 'coming back'. A feeling that I lost 11 years ago when I was 18 years old (something I gave up trying to fix when I was 20 years old). I'm excited by the possibility that perhaps it was my thyroid and I can treat it now. Eager to see how I feel in a couple of months! I think I need more than 75 mcg. I have no side effects at all."

Levothyroxine for Hashimoto's disease "I started taking this drug, Tirosint, a year ago and initially felt more awake, energetic, and happier. I lost some weight and was back to a comfortable maintenance weight pre-thyroid issues, but in the past few months, I have gained it all back and then some more. I honestly notice no difference in my energy levels now and, in fact, notice my immune system is much worse than before. I think this may all be due to the recent change in manufacturer, as all the side effects have shown up since early this year, but I’m ready to be off this drug."

Levothyroxine for Underactive Thyroid "I was taking Levothyroxin 50mcg for the past 3 months. My initial TSH was 13 when I started Levo; within 2 months, my TSH dropped to 2.5. Although my levels were normal, I continued to have some fatigue, sleepiness upon waking, night sweats, facial flushing, anxiety, and horrible brain fog. I decided to try my sample of Synthroid 50mcg and within a week, the brain fog, night sweats, and sleepiness were gone! I wake up with the most energy I have ever had! I am still experiencing some anxiety and facial flushing which we are monitoring, but overall Synthroid is working for me! I am 32 years old and 9 months postpartum. I also take my dose at night, hours after dinner."
