For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 16 years old with no kids. The insertion of the Mirena was very painful, and I mean so painful that I teared up and felt very dizzy after. I have used birth control pills in the past for heavy bleeding and cramping, but I got breakthrough bleeding. The first day of getting it inserted was probably the worst day, now I'm just spotting! But I do recommend this device to other teens/women who have heavy periods!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I got my Mirena last September, and I bled for 3 weeks. My doctor trimmed my cord, then I didn’t bleed but for every 2 months. It’s now November, and I haven’t had a period since February. However, this morning I am spotting just a little bit, no cramps or anything. Overall, I love it."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "DO NOT GET THIS DEVICE!! Got Mirena inserted in late February and had 3 months of constant bleeding and uterine pain I don’t even want to call cramps. I’ve never experienced this type of pain before! It had me on the ground in the supermarket, clenching my stomach. I tried for 6 months and had 3 doctors try to remove it, but they said the strings were too short. After three months, the pain only came around when my period came (yes, I still got my period). My period became 10 days instead of 5. I felt so trapped in my body. After my second trip to the emergency room because of the pain in September, the doctor finally was able to remove it. Every doctor I had told me to wait it out and the symptoms would go away, and they never did. Absolutely worst decision I’ve made."

For Birth Control "I got Mirena as a birth control solution and a solution to my very heavy, 8 days - 10 days painful periods. I wasn't suggested it by a doctor, I pretty much came to the decision myself. I had been on the pill, which didn't affect me negatively at all (still got very heavy periods though). Before that, I was in the Depo shot, which made me bleed non-stop for three months. So I was very skeptical about Mirena. I've lost my periods altogether, and I've noticed that when I'm supposed to be on my period, I don't have any type of discharge or anything of the sort. What I do notice is when I have a very stressful situation, I get discharge for 24 hours, brownish discharge. No pain, no weight gain, brilliantly perfect!"

For Birth Control "I got the Mirena today, literally an hour ago, and let me just tell you exactly how nervous I was. I had an anxiety attack going in, I was so scared to get it. I had nearly backed out so many times because I kept reading the reviews, but I am so glad I got it. The pain is quick, literally so fast you can't even react to it. I'm cramping mildly and bleeding (which is normal when something is inserted in you). I definitely recommend this to anyone, and if you're scared, don't be. It's literally a 5-minute procedure, and it's quick and easy. Pain goes away so fast!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have always controlled my periods and the heaviness of them with the pill. When the pill no longer worked to control my heavy bleeding and huge clots, the Mirena was suggested to try, otherwise, I would need a hysterectomy. I have to say the Mirena is the best thing I have ever done. I wish I had done it years earlier. Once inserted, I had a light period every second week for about 6 weeks. Then nothing, no period at all. I do get slight spotting maybe every 3 months. Honestly, this is the best thing for my health. I feel so much better, no more pain, heavy bleeding, clots, or anemia, and I have much more energy."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "It’s been 14 months since I had the Mirena inserted under anesthetic to help with heavy bleeding and severe pain. Two weeks following insertion, I had the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I got off the bus and almost collapsed to the ground. All normally, apparently. I bled consistently and quite a bit for about six months. Now it switches from very light to just a bit lighter than a period. I stayed on the pill until just recently to help with cramps and bleeding. I use a liner every day, there is enough discharge that I couldn’t not wear one. If you don’t mind light to moderate bleeding/pain almost all the time, then I would recommend it. At least keep it in for twelve months. The first six months or so are pretty bad, but it does ease up. Don’t get discouraged at first."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had my IUD inserted at the start of my period, and it seemed as though my period was about the same for the first two days. Then they began to lighten up and ended with the same duration as a period. The duration between my periods seemed to be about a week longer, but when I did start, it began lighter than normal and lasted a week before becoming heavier and still bleeding heavily for now two weeks (3 weeks total now). I don't seem to have cramps or PMS, however, I'm hoping to end sooner rather than later because I don't dig the bleeding duration at all, as this in itself is becoming a birth control of abstinence by default for obvious reasons, and the point of birth control is to avoid pregnancy when 'sexually active.' I no longer have a sex life at the moment, which is making me a bit hostile, however, I am going to ride this out and hope for the best."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had a copper IUD for 5 years, no issues other than heavy bleeding for the first 3 months after getting my IUD. I had the Mirena IUD for 6 days, always felt pressure (to the point it was causing pain and could barely walk), so I had to have it removed, bleeding, and severe moodiness. From what I've researched, the side effects of Mirena are extreme compared to the copper."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Had Mirena inserted January 6th, it’s now the 25th. I have bled every single day since insertion. Some days just brownish discharge but almost always requiring a pad. As time has gone on, it’s becoming heavier and a light tampon is required. I’m 100% wishing I had found these reviews prior to insertion. Really hoping this doesn’t make me bleed for 6 months to a year! Had it inserted solely to control my heavy periods, not for birth control. Insertion was uncomfortable, but nothing horrendous, and I didn’t take any ibuprofen before or after. Just some light cramping. Went in right after my period, and no anesthetic was used. They also had a student midwife place it, but I’ve had 3 children (6 years ago), so maybe the people who had such painful insertions hadn’t had children. So far, I’m super unhappy with the light bleeding, but I have no other issues or symptoms at this time."

For Birth Control "I'll be 43 this year and have a 9-month-old. The doctor recommended Mirena for birth control and to help with my very heavy periods. I had the IUD put in on Oct 12, 2019, and I haven't had one complete week without bleeding. The doctor said 3-6 months, but I don't think I can wait that long. My sex life is non-existent! (I guess that makes it a good birth control lol.) I'm not okay with that. Not to mention my husband feels the strings poking him (it's uncomfortable), and I don't feel the same anymore, there is always a constant pressure like a mild cramp. First-time IUD user, not a fan, going to look at other options."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I went in to get the Mirena because I have May-Thurner Syndrome, and the blood thinners I'm on are causing very heavy periods, so my hematologist recommended the IUD to lessen the bleeding. I was very nervous for the procedure, and they said I bled more than usual with the placement of the Mirena. It's been almost 48 hours since I got the IUD, and I wanted to see if I could feel the string. The doctor said he put medicine to help stop the bleeding, and when I use the bathroom, there might be a discharge of something that looks like coffee grains. So I'm thinking it's normal, but when I tried to feel the string, I felt a weird blob and pulled out a tan, soggy something that I think is a napkin of some sort. I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to get all of the tissue out. I was scared the IUD was coming out, but I think they left a damn napkin in me, for almost two days without telling me! I'm still not sure how I feel about this."

For Birth Control "I really wanted to love the Mirena because other BCs haven't worked well for me, and I liked how I didn't have to worry about taking any BC, but I'm getting my Mirena removed in a few days after having it for 2 years. I held off removing it to see if things would improve, but it hasn't. Issues: - Random dizzy spells that go on for a week or two. I've never had dizziness before getting the Mirena IUD inserted. - My boobs are so sore and sensitive 3 weeks of 4 every freaking month. - I would randomly bleed, and in the past 6 months, I've had period signs every two weeks. - I CAN feel it. I'm fed up with the rubbish that I am told that you 'can't feel it'. Yes, I can. It made sex uncomfortable, either feeling it move or sharp pain. It got to the point my body shut down from wanting sex because it was afraid of feeling that pain. My husband is on the bigger side, and also he winces when hitting the string (yes, I've had it trimmed to curve around my cervix). Would not recommend."

"So far, so good with Mirena. I do not really have pains. I did sort of stop having regular periods. The first month was so bad though...bleeding every day and spotting every time I thought it was finally over. So far, it's my second month, and I do not have a period, but I have like brown-colored blood, which I am assuming is just my uterus getting rid of old blood. Pain was moderate at first, but not so much now. Honestly, it did feel as if the bleeding would never end, but it did stop. Just have a little patience and monitor yourself to make sure that there is nothing abnormal from how your body is changing. Keep in mind that the body has to adjust to the higher hormonal dose that this IUD provides. Just hang in there and be positive!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 23 and had Mirena inserted in December 2018. Insertion was terrible for me, almost passed out, but should have eaten before like they recommended. The first day was the worst cramps of my entire life, and I was bedridden. However, many other people I know who have IUDs say they were just a little uncomfortable the day of, so that definitely varies from person to person. Anyway, no noticeable weight gain, and my periods became very light after the first few months, and I was so happy, but now, since August, I have been almost constantly having some form of bleeding or brown discharge. When I have a full-on period, my cramps are bad. Not any worse than when I was on the pill, but they're not better. Since August, I maybe have a week or ten days of a break here and there from the bleeding or brown discharge. It is extremely frustrating, I am so relieved (and sorry) to see other people have had this experience because I was starting to freak out. Going to a new OBGYN to see what she thinks."

For Birth Control "I love it! I'm 20 with a 2-month-old, and it was uncomfortable when I got it inserted, and I had cramps and bleeding for the first day. After that, nothing. I'm in love with it. Definitely recommend it."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've had Mirena in for 4 1/2 months now, and I'm still bleeding. I'm going through about 2-3 tampons every 24 hours. I've gone through about 6-7 snaps where it'll stop for a day or two, and then it starts right back up. I'm out of town for a few months, but as soon as I get back, I'm having it taken out. I haven't gotten pregnant during those snaps, so I guess it's effective if you're willing to spend your life bleeding."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have had the Mirena for 13 months now. I had light bleeding in between periods the first two months and then just a light brown discharge between what should have been periods ever since. I had cramps the first 8 months, but they were sporadic and disappeared within 30 seconds each time I felt one. I would get occasional cramps when I should have had a period. No skin breaking out, no mood swings at all. I want to KISS the person who invented this. And it didn't hurt when I had it inserted. Felt like a huge menstrual cramp for about 30 seconds and that was it, and I have never had a baby. So far, so good!"

For Birth Control "I had the Mirena inserted 7 months ago. I took 800 mg of Ibuprofen beforehand and experienced only minor pain upon insertion. I had some mild cramping throughout that day, but afterwards none. I still have fairly regular periods-every month, light bleeding with a little bit of cramping. I was told that after about 6 months my periods would probably disappear, but I'm still waiting for that to happen. No weight gain, acne, or change in mood or libido. I love it! Very satisfied."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Inserting Mirena felt like getting an abortion, worst 10 min of my life! Got this January 2016 and I'm still bleeding, not heavy but enough to wear a pad or regular tampon. Sometimes I think the bleeding has stopped, and next thing I know I'm bleeding all over again! Not sure if I want to keep this in still."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 34, that had this Mirena device inserted after the recommendation of my doctor. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 22 and was placed on the NuvaRing. From October 2015 to October 2018, I was on the Skyla (no bleeding from insertion and minimal of 3 periods annually). I had Skyla removed to see if I could ovulate. On or about July 10, 2019, I took a pregnancy test as I had two weeks of abnormal bleeding. I ended up being pregnant (I had no clue). On July 12, 2019, I learned that I miscarried. All too fast! On Nov. 26th, I had the Mirena inserted. She told me I could have bleeding up to a month. WELL... going on 43 days and I have bled from light to heavy, red to brown back to red. I really hope that it ends soon. I feel exhausted and moody. My sexual libido has disappeared, I get the occasional cramping, and can I mention I am exhausted. If I continue to bleed after the 6-month mark, this thing is coming out and I will go on the Skyla. At least I know how my body operates."

For Birth Control "I have had Mirena twice. The first time was after my 2nd child. During the insertion, I had 2 small cramps that did not last long. When it was all done, I had no cramping and no bleeding for a year. I had it removed because I was going to try and be a surrogate for my aunt. Sadly, it didn't happen. But I was blessed with my very own baby boy later on. I had Mirena inserted again after my son's birth. This time, I had a little more cramping during the procedure. Afterwards, I bled heavy for 10 days with mild cramping. I had a week of nothing, then another 10 days of random bleeding. Now it's been about 3 months since the procedure, and I have not had any bleeding, but I do get lots of cramps, and I am having a hard time losing weight."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have had the Mirena implanted to help fight the uterine cancer stage 1, grade 1. I was told that I would just have abnormal bleeding for a few days. Also, that the periods would become lighter and shorter, then eventually, I wouldn’t have any more periods. That wasn’t the case at all, I had gained weight, major mood swings, and heavy spotting every single day. I’ve had it implanted 6 months ago, and I still have heavy bleeding. I still have to make sure I carry spare pads since I randomly bleed heavily. I’m at my wit's end, I keep being told that I just need to push through this time since it will get better. I honestly don’t feel like it will and really wish I was more informed of the other side effects before agreeing to having it implanted since I don’t feel like my old self."
