For Birth Control "I got my Liletta on May 28th, 2017. I have never been pregnant or had sex before, so insertion was uncomfortable and painful. The pinch on the cervix hurt, but the foreign object holding open my vaginal opening hurt more for me. Post-insertion, pain subsided after about 45 minutes, and I felt fine. I was mid-menstrual cycle when I got mine inserted. Days following, cramps began to develop every day and light bleeding followed. I lost my appetite and felt sleepy all the time. Light bleeding (only had to use light tampons) was consistent, and cramps got worse and occurred every day. (Cramps are the worst part by far.) At about 2.5 weeks after insertion, I began to feel some mood swings and had an acne breakout. Symptoms still occurring 5 weeks out."

For Birth Control "I had the Liletta IUD inserted two months ago. Insertion was very painful, but the experience took 5 minutes altogether. The pain following didn't last longer than a day. So far, I've noticed my periods last a lot longer, before the IUD, they would last 5 days. Now they last 8-10. I also spot almost every single day. Both of these things are manageable, but if I wasn't single, this would interfere with my sex life. Benefits: I don't get crazy mood swings like I used to on the pill, and I don't have a lot of hair growth on my body, it seems like my hair doesn't grow as fast. Cons: I'm very frustrated this month because I've developed cystic acne along my left jaw, cheek, and forehead, and I can't lose weight, whereas before I could."

For Birth Control "I've had the IUD for about 5 months. For the first month, I bled constantly with heavy clots, terrible cramps, and tender breasts. Things started to improve around the second month with only light bleeding, and now I have random spotting or a period that lasts a few days. I initially had acne, but read about black African soap, which (in conjunction with tea tree oil after showering) has eliminated it. I have PCOS and already had hair growth on my chin. It's a lot worse with the IUD in place, and I'm going to electrolysis to eliminate it. That is my biggest complaint. No weight gain (but I did experience bloating). And I've ALWAYS gained on BC w/estrogen. Once my husband felt it, but my doc snipped the strings, and it's not been a problem since."

For Birth Control "After reading all of these helpful reviews, I thought to myself... why not add my input in order to help other ladies that might also be struggling with the never-ending journey of finding the right birth control, because my God, is it frustrating. I got the Liletta IUD inserted in May 2016, so it's been in for nearly 7 months. The insertion hurt a lot, and I was in a fair amount of pain afterward (could hardly drive myself home). I bled for a month or two, and after that, it was like a dream. No periods. Perfect skin. No weight gain. I kept having to remind myself that I was protected and didn't have to worry. Then, about 3 months later, I started experiencing incredibly bad acne all over my face. Still experiencing it. Getting it out ASAP."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta inserted on November the second. I cramped, but I was fine. I have two kids, I got pregnant while on Skyla. I thought to give this a try since it has a higher hormone amount. I have been on my period now for 4.5 weeks, it's been relatively light. Nothing crazy at all, and no cramping. But now it's even more blood. My husband and I have had sex (he could care less about getting me pregnant or not). So far, I'm not pregnant. So I guess it's doing its job. But I haven't had acne, no weight gain, no change in skin... just this dang long period. But I'll give myself a longer time to see how it does."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta in February. The insertion hurt a little, but not too bad, and it only lasted a couple of minutes (I took ibuprofen 20 minutes before). I was not on my period when I had it inserted. I only had cramping for like 20 minutes after, and it was just in my legs. My first period after getting the IUD lasted for a little over 3 weeks and would switch between spotting and heavy bleeding. Since then, my period comes on the same day every month and is very light (fingers crossed it just goes away). I usually can get away with just wearing a liner. I do get leg cramps every time I have a period now, though. Usually, ibuprofen will make them go away. I haven't had weight gain or acne, but I am super emotional now. More than I've ever been."

For Birth Control "First off, had it for a year and had severe bleeding every month for at least 3 weeks a month, never stopped. Got horrible acne I still cannot get rid of. Had multiple ovarian cysts burst (which has never happened to me before). Zero sex drive, depression. My ob-gyn tried to tell me the hormone was so low none of my symptoms could be related to the drug, which is ridiculous. On a NuvaRing now, so far, okay."

For Birth Control "Had Liletta inserted mid-November 2016. The doctor did her best to make me comfortable and walk me through the process. First came the cold clamps that open your cervix. Then the doctor inserted something to measure my cervix to make sure the device would fit properly. This was a pinching pain coming from deep inside me. After this came insertion. The insertion felt like a combination of pinching, pushing, and pulling all at once. I cramped badly after. I had some spotting for 4 days following. I've had a regular period monthly since then. I have been spotting again recently, which has lasted over a week. No pregnancy though, and my acne has stayed about the same as with the pill. Hoping my period stops soon as well. So far, I am happy."

For Birth Control "First off, getting this put in was absolutely horrific. After insertion, I had to stay there for an hour of cold sweating before I was halfway able to drive home. The awful cramps lasted for 4 days. I only had two periods in the 7 months I had it. I gained 40 lbs while eating better and being more active, got awful body acne, lost hair, and have had bad constant headaches, which I have never had. On the bright side, removal is completely painless, I switched to Paragard."

For Birth Control "I just started using Liletta, and my first period was a little heavier than usual, but it’s definitely helped with stopping any pregnancy! I’m not noticing any mood changes yet. I’m breaking out a little, but that might just be my acne-prone skin. However, I do recommend Liletta if you are getting on birth control."

For Birth Control "So I've had Liletta for almost 2 weeks now. My experience with insertion was great! I had no pain during the procedure. My boyfriend says he can feel the string, so I believe my OB left it a little long. I have an appointment soon, so I will let her know. I rated Liletta as a 5 because I don't quite know if it works yet. My boyfriend came in me 2 times already. So I'm just waiting to see results. Other than that, I forget the IUD is there, I don't feel it at all. But I have broken out on my chin. I am also still bleeding since the day of insertion."

For Birth Control "I had the Mirena for 5 years, with no issues at all. My OB suggested Liletta, said it would be the same as the Mirena… It has not been the same. Insertion was painful, but that’s to be expected. Every month for the last year, I go through the same mental breakdown, I am still having periods/spotting, my anxiety levels are through the roof, and I have acne breakouts like never before. I used to be a happy/bubbly person and now I am not. It’s affecting my work/personal life and most of all, my confidence in my relationship. I never had these issues before. I scheduled an appointment with my OB for removal. I do give a 10/10 for effectiveness as it effectively dropped my libido, so definitely no risk for pregnancy."

For Birth Control "I have been on this birth control for about 5 months now. Insertion was horrible! At first, no noticeable side effects. However, now I have them all. I had always had extremely clear skin. Now I am constantly finding a new pimple on my face."

For Birth Control "Had my Liletta placed in August 2017. Most painful thing I have ever experienced. My Dr. never ordered the medication to soften my cervix (called me the day of the procedure and said, oops), so take that into account. Mind you, I have a very high pain tolerance. When this thing was placed, it took my breath away, I became dizzy and immediately started cramping. For the first month, I had bleeding non-stop (heavy period level of flow) and severe cramping. After the first month, I still had bleeding, pretty much every other day-more than spotting but less than full menstrual flow-and cramping until 4 months. Period now irregular, longer 7-10 days. My acne flares up now. I now have frequent headaches (never had that prior to Liletta). Benefits: I'm not pregnant. Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! Cramping, irregular bleeding, longer period, heavier period, PMS, acne, boyfriend doesn't like it, and headaches."

For Birth Control "I have been on Liletta for about 3 weeks. 2 weeks after my period came on, it's lasting for about 10 days so far. I just want my period to go away! And I'm acne-prone, so I'm guessing this has made it worse. Other than this, I like it!"

For Birth Control "I got Liletta in July 2016. With two shots of toradol, I still had a horrible experience with the insertion. I have never felt anything so painful. I constantly have mild cramping, pain with sex, and it made me break out like crazy. The only nice thing I have gotten from this is obviously no pregnancy, and I've had one period since July that lasted 3 days. I'm getting this taken out on Thursday due to the painful cramping every day."

For Birth Control "I got the IUD inserted in May 2016. Since then, the acne has been horrible, cramping off and on all month. If I cramp, there is sure to be bleeding, or I will pass small pieces of tissue. I have no kids, and I am seriously thinking about having it removed. Not happy at all!"

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted on 09/29/16. The insertion was painful, almost as if I was being stabbed multiple times. I had horrible cramps for about 2 hours afterwards and was sore the next day. I'm experiencing light spotting throughout the day, and it's very annoying. I'm also noticing a lot of acne (my skin has been always clear before Liletta was inserted)."

For Birth Control "34, no children. I hate hormones but finally gave in due to abnormal uterine bleeding and the hope Liletta would stop my periods. It releases a slightly lower dose of hormones than Mirena, which is why I chose it. Had 4 lidocaine shots, and insertion was still painful but not unbearable. I've had it for 5 weeks now, I bled heavily with clots and terrible cramps starting right after insertion for nearly 3 weeks. Then it lightened up to just bleeding during the day, but I was still using 3-4 tampons a day. Now I'm finally spotting, with no bleeding in the evening or overnight. I had horrific breast tenderness, moodiness, some bloating, but no real weight gain. Also, a bit of acne, which is very annoying. If my periods stop/lighten, I will keep it."

For Birth Control "I had the Liletta put in July (almost 3 months ago) with the initial insertion, a sharp and intense pain. I had about a week of intense pressure or cramp-like symptoms. I have had a constant light period, acne on my forehead (which I never have had), and weight gain. I'm not sure if this IUD is best suited for me at this point. I will call my doctor and ask her opinion."

For Birth Control "The insertion (12/30/2020) was probably the most traumatic experience of my life, I passed out afterward due to the pain and meds my doctor gave me. Four months in and I’m still getting excruciating cramps every day. They are severe to the point of taking my breath away or even vomiting. Plus, constant nausea just like morning sickness but all day. My eczema has returned on my scalp and hands/feet, with my prescription medicine no longer working. I also experience severe anxiety now. I have absolutely no sex drive anymore. I’m developing painful cystic acne on my chin, jawline, and forehead. I’m meeting with a new doctor next week for a second opinion on my reproductive health, as my current doctor has listened to none of my concerns and tells me that they’ve heard no complaints from their other patients about the Liletta. This forum obviously proves otherwise! The only positive to this IUD is that it prevents pregnancy but, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t."

For Birth Control "I swapped my Mirena IUD for Liletta because that’s all my OB/GYN offered. I was told the two are the same. I was frustrated that I was not informed I would be given a different IUD until I was sitting in the chair for my procedure. Like many others here, the pro has been that I haven’t gotten pregnant, but I’m experiencing weight gain, face acne, and sensitive skin on my face (face wash products I’ve always used now burn and irritate my skin), and I’ve got painful cramps days before my period and longer periods. I might take it out, especially seeing these reviews. I miss my Mirena. Also, my libido is ridiculously low. No clue if it’s all related to Liletta or what, but these are definitely changes."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted exactly a month ago, and it was the most painful experience of my life. If I knew it was going to hurt so bad, I wouldn’t have done it, but I’m glad I did because it’s been good so far. I haven’t bled at all, which is nice. My skin is breaking out like crazy though on my chin, which is hormonal acne. And my period was supposed to come today, but instead, I have insane cramps similar to when I got it inserted. I hope my skin clears up because I really like Liletta so far, and so does my partner!"

For Birth Control "I've had Liletta in for almost 3 weeks. I got it put in the day of my last cycle. Insertion was extremely painful, and I cramped so bad that I was unable to move. The pain was intense and lasted for two days after insertion. Since having it in, I’ve had extreme on-and-off cramping daily, mild spotting, and my skin has been breaking out. It’s my fertile week, and I feel like I’m on my period. I tried having sex a week after insertion, on the one day I wasn't spotting, and it was extremely difficult for me to even stay wet (which has never been a problem). Sex was also slightly uncomfortable. I’m trying to wait a while before deciding to remove it, but it’s honestly causing issues that I’ve never experienced before."

For Birth Control "Dang, this word count! I'd love to share my full experience, but here's the quick version. Insertion sucked, but I would do it again looking back. I was prescribed misoprostol and a strong NSAID to take prior to insertion. Very bad cramps for 5 to 6 hours. Think of if you've ever had to go home from school because of bad cramps in your teens. Brownish discharge for a couple of days, then clear until my period. First period lasted about 16 days, pretty normal for an IUD. Second period was 4 weeks later for 5 days. Periods are now 3 months in between, only lasting 1 day of light spotting. No mood swings at all compared to the pill. More body acne, but it's manageable. Slight cramps are very rare. Overall, love it!"
