For Depression "I started taking MethylPro after I was prescribed Deplin and could not afford the monthly cost once my insurance discontinued it. MethylPro has actually made me feel better than ever, I believe I was having a reaction to one of the additives in Deplin, and it was making my skin itch. I no longer have that issue, and I feel the effects more quickly on the MethylPro. It has allowed me to no longer be on antidepressants, and two months ago I started taking one with cofactors. I'm now training for a half marathon in March. Life is now fulfilling, and I'm full of energy, L-methylfolate has been a game changer for me!"

For Depression "I am a 63-year-old man (a psychologist) who has had treatment-resistant depression for many years. In the past ten years, I also have had frequent (10-15/month) migraines-migraine and mood disorders often appear together. I started on Deplin 7.5 mg/day along with Zoloft 50 mg/day last month. I had been on Zoloft alone previously with no improvement. After 3-4 weeks of no change in mood or functioning, my psychiatrist increased the Deplin to 15 mg/day and the Zoloft to 75 mg/day (not a high dose). Within a few days, I experienced an increase in energy and a sharp decrease in depressed mood-to the point where I'm feeling back to what 'normal' was decades ago. I have been through numerous antidepressants and never experienced this."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I've been using antidepressants for quite a few years now. I seem to have gone through the entire list of antidepressants. My latest script is Escitalopram Tabs, 10 mg. We recently added Abilify and this Deplin Caps, 15 mg. I've been feeling a bit better. One of these two gives me an awful case of heartburn! Painful it is. I'll mention it during my next appointment. Now, as before, I can't watch anything with intense emotions as I'll break down and start crying. At age 52, I find it a bit annoying. Before I added these last two medicines, I found myself crying more frequently than not. The movie 'UP' really freaked me out. Anyway, I'm disabled with intractable pain. That's what started all the depression stuff."

L-methylfolate for Folate Deficiency "Deplin has changed my life. If I had the choice of winning the lottery with unlimited funds or this medication, I would choose Deplin every time. I am 49, female, with ADHD. I suffer debilitating symptoms from it, the worst being poor memory and impaired executive function and focus. After taking 15 mg for just 3 weeks, I saw results. My memory went from that of an 80-year-old dementia patient to the memory I had as a young adult. I'm able to focus and actually get stuff accomplished and checked off my list every day. I was lifted right out of the sinking depression I was in due to the helplessness of living with a short-term memory problem. This pill needs to have a public service announcement made to everyone. So many people could be helped."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I was having major anxiety and insomnia stemming from shoulder surgery. I wasn’t sure what was wrong with me. I eventually found a psychiatrist, and he prescribed Klonopin. That made me more depressed. I decided I needed a better psychiatrist. After meeting with this doctor, he decided to do the genetic testing. Three days later, I found I have MTHFR. Compound heterozygous. I've been on Deplin 15 mg for over a year. I also take 10 mg Lexapro per day. Anxiety is better, and I’m not nearly as angry. Changed my life for the better. Better late than never. I’m 54."

For Depression "I'm 47 and heterozygous for both MTHFR mutations. I just came out of a deep, dark depression with the help of Effexor. I started taking 0.5 milligrams of methyl folate (yes, a very low dose) about a month ago. Even this small amount of methyl folate (in combo with methyl B12) affects me deeply and immediately. I take it before 8 in the morning, and it still influences my sleep that night. I have never been an active dreamer, but on methyl folate, I dream A LOT. I seem to feel more awake and active in the afternoons as well. I agree with the commenter about being on methyl folate for a period of time before deciding if it works for you. You may feel the effects immediately, or later on. There may be ups and downs."

For Depression "Tried Neurofolin today. As I was considering giving it to my late teen with low mood and energy, I thought I would be the guinea pig first. Had a positive experience. Felt focused and alert all day, with sustained results and improved mood and outlook. A little jittery, but personally managed okay with that."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I took Deplin during a former depressive episode, but in a much smaller dose. I cannot say if it helped with the effects of depression. During this episode, my doctor recommended taking 15 mg. I was taking Deplin for 3 months. I was having unbearable anxiety and began looking carefully at the side effects of my meds. Deplin can cause severe anxiety, along with other negative side effects. There is an article online called ‘Anxiety Nutrition Solutions’ by Trudy Scott with Dr. Benjamin Lynch. He is a major supporter of methyl folate. He talks in the article about the different side effects patients can experience on Deplin, severe anxiety among them. If you’re taking Deplin and are feeling anxiety, please read."

For Depression "I've suffered from depression since my early thirties. At that, was when it was diagnosed. I've tried most of the antidepressants, and for short periods of time, they certainly have assisted me in coming out of some pretty dark places. Now, into my 50s, I'm tired of taking the medication and do not feel that it has been assisting me. Recently, I have tried Nurofolin, and I can't believe the difference. I weaned myself off the antidepressants and then began taking your folin. Within two weeks, my mood was lighter and my anxiety reduced considerably. I have now been taking it for well over three months. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who has done the work and now just wants something to keep their mood balanced. Of course, this is not for everyone, but in my experience, I am so grateful to finally find something that truly helps without the chemical side effects."

For Depression "Wow, this stuff is amazing! It did not work at first, but my sister, who is a nurse, told me that because I had gastric bypass, I probably need to take more than the 15 mg because gastric bypass patients do not absorb nutrients very well at all and need supplements. I am now taking 45 mg per day without any side effects. And the negative thinking has all but disappeared. I had a DNA test done as my new psychiatric nurse practitioner, after having listened to my woes of having no success with meds or ECT, immediately insisted that I take the DNA test. As she suspected, I have not one but two mutations on my MTHFR gene, which decreases my ability to process folic acid in a big way. She suggested that I try Inositol/Choline too."

For Folate Deficiency "Life changing. After 3 years of trying different SSRIs that didn’t work for my depression or severe anxiety, I finally did a gene test and not only found 5 medications that were suitable for me, but they saw that I had the homozygous C667T MTHFR mutation, meaning my folic acid conversion was pretty much non-existent. This made so, so much sense for a lot of things that happened to me, and I began taking 75 mg of Pristiq (SNRI) and 15 mg of l-methylfolate supplements. After several months of these meds, therapy sessions, and even starting exercise again, I am a changed person. The hamster wheels in my head have finally slowed down, I’m not seeing darkness (figuratively) all the time anymore, and I haven’t had a panic attack in months. These results and these capsules have saved me."

For Depression "tl;dr: 5-MTHF, methyl folate calcium salt, whatever it's called by the manufacturer, some forms work better for some people than others. My depression responded poorly to nearly every antidepressant on the market for 10+ years. Turns out I'm homozygous for the MTHFR mutation. Started taking 1 mg L-methylfolate pills by Superior Source, increasing every few days to hit the recommended 15 mg/day for depression. Had an immediate improvement in energy, and my other meds, like Allegra, started working better. I also tried OptiFolate 7.5 mg, MD Life 5 mg, and NOW 5 mg. My depression symptoms and skin picking came back on each of those. My psychiatrist finally wrote me a prescription, and now I'm on 15 mg pills made by Breckenridge. They work as well for me as OptiFolate: not very well at all. YMMV (your mileage may vary), I've seen reviews on Amazon where people responded much better to OptiFolate than Superior Source. Do your research, and try different makers if one doesn't work for you. I'm waiting for a new prescription."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I had been struggling with depression for many years. Had many bad experiences with the usual anti-depressants, SSRIs and such. After doing the gene psych test and finding out I was homozygous for the MTHFR gene, I asked my doctor if I could try Deplin, and he said yes. After just three days, it felt like my depression had mostly gone away. After three months, I continue to feel better still. This drug has really been a miracle for me. And I have experienced zero side effects from it. I take the 15 mg. I take it in combination with 7.5 mg of mirtazapine. I hope this helps somebody who is on the fence about taking Deplin. It is a little bit pricey, but for me, it has been worth every penny."

L-methylfolate for Depression "For the past several years, I have been trying to find the right balance to deal with the anxiety and depression of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have been on Citalopram for the depression, and that seems to work well. It has been hard to find an antipsychotic that works, and currently, I'm on Latuda. I'm also on a mood stabilizer, Lamictal. My doctor added Deplin. Long story, I wound up without my Latuda and Deplin for about 6 weeks. In 6 weeks, I was off the charts on the ups, and my old patterns were popping up. Not good. I went back on the Latuda and began evening out, but still had too much up. Now I've been back on the Deplin for a week, and I feel completely numb. Trouble sleeping at the right times, trouble being awake or at least alert at the right times."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I am taking 225 mg of Lamictal for depression. The Dr. wanted me to try this along with the Lamictal. I took it once, at bedtime, and woke up with the worst headache I've had in my entire life, and it lasted all day. Also had very loud ringing in my ears, which lasted all day. Not good. Needless to say, I did not take it again, so I cannot comment on its effectiveness."

For Depression "Very good supplement for the treatment of depression. It's definitely good as an add-on to prescription antidepressants. Most people with mental health issues are lacking in folic acid, and l-methylfolate is the most potent kind of folate."

For Depression "I have battled depression and anxiety for 15 years and was prescribed Klonopin. Over the years, I have remained on Klonopin, in addition to Paxil, which was added 6 years ago. I didn't see any significant changes in my depression, but my anxiety was under control. After trying several antidepressants with no significant change in my depressive mood, I was frustrated. My doctor prescribed Methylfolate, and today is my 2nd day taking the medicine. I woke up this morning with hope, energy, and excitement. It has been years since I have felt excited about what a day in my life would unfold, and it happened today. I feel like I am participating in life today as opposed to being a spectator."

For Depression "I thought Deplin was helping my depression at first, but soon realized that the severe anxiety and insomnia I was experiencing coincided with when I started taking it. Granted, I take other meds, but I had zero anxiety and practically no trouble sleeping before I added Deplin. It’s a shame because at first I thought it was helping me, but the side effects were intolerable."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I was so hopeful hearing about the possibilities of Deplin and depression. I've tried twice, once at 15 mg for about a week, and had bad headaches. My doctor suggested taking half (7.5 mg) the dose to see if my body would adjust at a lower dose, and unfortunately, it hasn't. In the early start, though, my mood was better, and I was sleeping restfully while on it for a short time. The headaches are like migraine severity. They start in the neck, up the back of my head, and towards my ears. They last for a few days, during which I have to take Aleve just to be able to manage the pain. It would have been great to see if this would continue to improve my depression, but it's definitely not worth the painful side effects I experience."

L-methylfolate "Prescribed for my young daughter with autism and epilepsy, anxiety - hair pulling, but the dose was too high and caused even more anxiety, so found reducing it from every day to once a week, and sometimes just twice a month makes a huge difference for her to receive the benefit without the heightened anxiety. I muscle test for the amount and timing, and notice when she is pulling her eyelashes, hair, or eyebrows."

For Depression "So, here goes. I started taking Duplin about five years ago after I found out I was missing sets of both genes. It really explained a lot of what I went through as a teen. I noticed a life-changing difference. I have to explain that I am a young 60 years old. This may or may not hit a nerve with you, but I seriously think that this drug has put my libido in overdrive. Can anyone relate? I am going to cut them in half from now on and see if this helps."

For Depression "I have been on this med since March 2017. At first, I didn't think much of it. Until recently, I ran out for about a week and was too lazy to run to the hospital's pharmacy to retrieve it. I can't tell you how much of an effect this will have if you have depression and major depression. I was also checked for the gene mutation where you lack folic acid. I guess this was the cure? It definitely helps, and you have to be consistent. I do also suffer from migraines, and once in a while, I'll get those postdrome symptoms. If this was given to you, please make sure to take it. There are some good benefits, friends."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I am heartened by the 6 reviews. I have just started on Deplin. I have been on Remeron for two years. I cannot tolerate serotonin-type medicines such as Prozac and Lexapro. Remeron worked beautifully at first, but the effects have slowly worn off, and my anxiety and mild depression returned. I pray Deplin will work for me and I can regain my enthusiasm and joy in life. I am happy for those of you who have been helped. Wish me luck."

L-methylfolate for Depression "I take Lexapro 20 mg, which works well for my anxiety but not quite so well for my depression, and I was always tired. I started taking 15 mg Deplin and quickly started to feel more energy. I have more motivation now and just feel better in general. I do have the homogenous C667T MTHFR variant and also had a slight folate deficiency before starting."
