Insulin glargine for Type 2 Diabetes "I would say I have experienced the same as many here. I was on Lantus, a very expensive insurance carrier forced me to take a cheaper drug to enhance their profit margin and not only forced me to buy from their preferred provider, CVS Caremark, but also switch to Basaglar. Since switching, my sugar has dramatically increased, especially in the morning for fasting blood sugar. This has forced me to increase my dosage, which doesn’t always work. I just got new insurance, and I sure as heck am getting back on Lantus!"

Insulin glargine for Type 2 Diabetes "The drug is very effective. The only problems I have had are low blood sugar levels while working in hot environments. In Saudi in the spring and summer months, I would constantly go low while working in the heat."

Insulin glargine for Diabetes, Type 1 "Started using Basaglar and have crashed 2 times, 1 day after using it. Had to call 911 as it made my blood sugar drop from 169 to 40 in 1/2 hour. Never had that happen before with Lantus and never had to call 911 for low blood sugar. Will just be taking Novolog unless my insurance agrees to let me use Lantus."

Insulin glargine for Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been diabetic for 24 years and have used Lantus for about 20 years until my insurance said this winter that it would not cover it. I was changed to Basaglar and told that it was “basically the same,” but it's not!!! In 8 months, my A1C has jumped to a 10% from a 7-8%. My blood sugar drops really low in the morning without real explanation, and then it creeps up to ridiculously high levels no matter what I eat. I am very low carb and I exercise, but nothing helps. I am also unable to lose weight, and I feel terrible. This medication is a disgrace!! If you can even call it that. I am glad to see that I’m not alone in having these issues."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I was using this after using Lantus for many years. I have to say it has taken some trial and error, but a once-a-day dosage works well for me. One unit more or less, though, and I'm either low all day or having issues keeping my glucose down without constant glucose monitoring and quick-acting doses."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Semglee is toxic! I have taken Lantus and Basaglar based on insurance's wishes. My great doctor wrote this prescription, and I have taken it for one week with horrible results. My blood sugar would drop drastically low at 10 pm, midnight, and 2 am, even after consuming 20 carbs each time! Then my blood sugar would skyrocket to 300+ from 4 am until morning. Garbage and deadly!"

Insulin glargine for Diabetes, Type 1 "My endo switched me from Lantus to Toujeo about 8 weeks ago. It has been a disaster for me ever since switching. I have extreme highs and lows. I go to bed with blood sugar normal and wake up with it approaching 275 or higher. Occasionally, I have a high blood sugar and will take a Humalog correction, often with no effect. I constantly have high blood sugars for most of the day. This did not happen when I was taking Lantus. Now, the only times I can have steady blood sugars on Toujeo is when I don’t eat! This is unacceptable! I do agree with some other comments here: Toujeo is a substandard insulin and should be taken off the market immediately! BTW, I am a type 1 diabetic since 1977. Toujeo is terrible!!!!"
