"This insulin, my insurance switched everyone who used Lantus to this, and it really doesn't work. My sugars have been high ever since using it. SMH. Just wish it was effective since it's the only one like Lantus that my insurance will approve."

Insulin glargine "I would rather have my insulin pump that also displayed my blood sugar every 15 minutes. I really miss my pump (taken off by a doctor in the emergency room). I learned later my pump was fine, I had been given faster insulin to put in it, so it was the insulin, not the pump. I will ask my doctor if I can put it on and use it tomorrow when I see him. The SoloStar was fine, but I miss my pump."

"I was using this after using Lantus for many years. I have to say it has taken some trial and error, but a once-a-day dosage works well for me. One unit more or less, though, and I'm either low all day or having issues keeping my glucose down without constant glucose monitoring and quick-acting doses."

Insulin glargine "I am a type 1 diabetic who was taking Lantus for years with an average A1C of 6.8 to 7.4. Insurance switched me to Levemir, which faded after 20 hours and increased my A1C to the high sevens. Then, I tried Basaglar in spite of all the bad reviews it got. Well, don't believe everything you read! This stuff is even better than Lantus! My A1C dropped from 7.9 to 7.3 the last 3 months, which still included about 1 month that I had still been taking Levemir. I feel great! Thank you, Lilly!"

Insulin glargine "Worse insulin ever used! Basaglar is very unstable & won't hold glucose steady. Glucose roller coaster from 30-489, forced to keep glucose higher because of instability & lows that last for hours directly after dosage. Since learning of $35 monthly cap on insulin, I am planning on returning to Lantus, which I must purchase without insurance. Half the time Basaglar will not work. Learned it is a 'follow-on' insulin, in other words, experimental! Even Humulin N works better!"

Insulin glargine "I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 45 years. I have been using Lantus with Humalog for probably over a decade. At one point, I switched to Levemir due to insurance. It worked well, even just once a day. Then, insurance switched, and so did my coverage; it was back to Lantus. Most recently, my doctor wanted to try me on Tresiba, which claims to last up to 42 hours and have better blood sugar control. However, after many issues with trying to get the right dose, along with many highs and lows, I decided to go back to Lantus. I am trying to take it in the morning at 6 a.m., rather than at 9 p.m. when I used to previously, as I would always run low in the middle of the night; it was peaking like 6 hours or so after injection. It's only been a few days, so far, so good. I'll stick to Lantus - morning or evening!"

Insulin glargine "I was struggling to work out what was best and how to cope with seemingly nonsensical results. I had found it difficult to inject larger amounts (above 30 units), so I began splitting my daily dose. Initially half in the morning and half at night. I was told to raise amounts by 4 units at a time but stick with it for 4 days, same if I needed to reduce it. When getting close to the right amount, reduce the change but stick to 4 days. This has been useful information, and I'm now mostly only changing 1 unit at a time. I eventually worked out that the nighttime dose was doing nothing for me, so I'm now once per day (still split into two injections). It's been pretty good for 3 years now. I did try rapid in the morning dose to try and reduce the ~10 a.m. peak but was taken off it as nothing seemed to change it, particularly as I've been following a strict keto diet for about 5 years now. Generally, the clinic comments on my good control (by HbA1c). I'm mostly in the range of 50-55 units/day."
