For High Blood Pressure "I was prescribed indapamide 1.5 mg because other meds ending with 'pril' gave me a constant dry cough and Candesartan gave me a stuffy nose, flu-like symptoms and urinal tract infections. I take Amlodipine 5 mg which is fine. From the onset of taking indapamide (6 months in total) I got tinnitus in one ear only, which was annoying but tolerable due to how this med reduced my BP along with Amlodipine to 'normal' readings. There was a slight increase in urination but after 4 weeks this subsided. Last night in bed the tinnitus got worse and to my horror I lost my hearing in my left ear only, completely (scary). I was completely deaf in that ear. I immediately stopped taking indapamide and after 24 hours my hearing started to come back with a remarkable drop to non-existent tinnitus too. I will not be going back on indapamide again another BP lowering drug that does not agree with me. So I guess it's back to the Dr to see if there is any other drug that I can use in combination with Amlodipine."

For High Blood Pressure "I took Indapamide along with Losartan 25mg for 2.5 yrs with no noticeable side effects. Annual blood tests. On GP visit this was reduced to 6 months in future without explanation. Around 9 weeks later my wife thought something wrong at 4.10 am, put on the bedside light to find me unconscious and not breathing with blood all over pillow. 999 call bought instructions for CPR till fire brigade arrived (x2 paramedics on fire truck) followed by ambulance. Three days in hospital 2 on a drip and supplementary oxygen. No driving licence for six months as this was a seizure. Only explanation from GP is low Sodium, and refuses to respond further.. Ambulance crew told wife another minute would have been too late. I have no memory whatsoever of the first two days. So, it works real well........if you don't mind a near death experience."

For High Blood Pressure "I was put onto Indapamide 2.5mg to lower my BP. The first day was fine the second day I noticed my mouth and throat were drying out and I felt very giddy. The third day I could not put the glass of water down I drank and drank but the dehydration was immense. I was suffering severe giddiness and feeling of fainting with a headache that was causing migraine auras. I felt confused and with usually a very good memory could not remember any of my PIN numbers generally totally muddled with a hangover type headache. The thirst continued, unbelievable thirst I drank so much water I spoke to my doctor and he reduced the amount to 1.25mg Prolonged release.. This I reacted to in exactly the same way and by this time day 6 I was feeling very ill indeed as nausea and sickness had added to my symptoms. By day 7 I spoke to my doctor and stopped taking it. It took me a couple of days to not feel thirsty and the confusion subsided too in the same amount of time."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been taking indapamide for hypertension for a few years now but recently (within the last few months) my kidney function has been reduced (lowest 41), stopping taking it improved my kidney function (back to 51) but my BP increased to over 180/100 in a matter of weeks. I restarted taking it and my BP lowered to 130/70 within 3-4 weeks, however my kidney function reduced again to 40 so have been advised to stop taking it again until an alternative can be prescribed. I have had complete ED (erectile dysfunction) for 4-5 years now but can not tie this directly to this medication but will hope that taking an alternative will help relieve this condition."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been prescribed Indapamide 1.5mg modified release over the last month as I have high BP. I had previously been prescribed other medications but was concerned by the side effects they caused me. So far this medication appears to be most effective at keeping my BP in the healthy range. The only issue I have noticed so far is increased frequency of urination leading to me usually having to get up once in the night to go to the toilet. I could certainly live with this. I retain concerns about the potential for there being longer term unintended consequences of taking medication for the rest of my life and am taking other actions with the hope that I may not need this indefinitely. This includes trying to become more informed on the topic, loosing weight, increasing exercise, dietary changes and the use of some complimentary meds."

For High Blood Pressure "I was taking amlodipine for a few years, but my blood pressure was still too high, and was getting badly swollen ankles, but I had no other side effects. My doctor put me on Indapamide 2.5mg in December 2022, and it has lowered my blood pressure but by too much now, It's early February 2023, and my blood pressure got to 100/50. I also have headaches every day (I don't usually get headaches at all), flushed cheeks, feeling edgy and wound up, dizzy, tired, and just generally unwell. My doctor reduced my dosage and give me a slower-release version of Indapamide 1.5mg instead and I have to take blood pressure readings 4 times a day. My blood pressure readings are better, but I feel so unwell on these tablets, the headaches are the worst. It's 5 am and I still have not slept. If I still feel ill on this lower dose after a week, I am coming off them."

"I gave up smoking in June this year, and put on a whopping 4 stones. My ankles swelled and I got out of breath by just walking a few minutes. Since taking Indapamide I feel much better. No swellings and best of all being able to walk without stopping every few minutes to rest."

For High Blood Pressure "Been taking it about 3 months, came here looking for anyone else experiencing pins and needles in their hands, I know it's not that bad but it's not something I've never had before. These symptoms only seem to have shown up since being put on Indapamide 2.5mg for blood pressure; It seems to come on in the late evenings which is strange as the Indapamide is taken first thing in the morning with breakfast. Might have to tell my doctor I need yet another medication switch..."

For High Blood Pressure "I was interested to read: "Because most of these data are from long-term studies (up to 40 weeks of treatment), it is probable that many of the adverse experiences reported are due to causes other than the drug." My adverse reactions occurred within ten days of starting 2.5mg Indapamide, but have improved (though not been eliminated) by a drop to 1.5mg. My concerns include constipation; erectile dysfunction, loss of libido, tiredness, above-range serum urea level. Leg oedema and hypertension have improved."

For Edema "Started Idapamide 1.5 mg in the am for hypertension with leg edema. ( Had to change to indapamide from CANDESARTAN after developing vasculitis and skin rashes ) First week , I had lost weigh because of frequent urination . BP was up and down, not controlled well . Second week , noticed bloating and feeling gassy ( burping a lot ) . BP was controlled in the afternoon but higher in the mornings . Had the idea that the medicine wore off at night making BP in am higher . Frequent urination was not experienced anymore thus , weight is maintained . Third week , still gassy but BP in am and pm well controlled . Still edema noticed but later on the day after walking , standing for long hours. Still bloated . My take on this medication, 1. Give it time to work for control of BP 2 . If side effects can be experienced after a week of taking it . If they are that bad and affects your daily living , consult your MD"

For High Blood Pressure "I was originally tried 2.5 mg but was too high a dosage, making my BP drop too much and my renal function problematic. I then started 1.5 slow release. Although side effects not quite as severe, my BP still got too low and renal function affected. With approval of my doctor, I tried cutting the pill in half and quarters. Perfect result! Most days I take a quarter tablet (5 days per week) and 2 days half tablet. I check my BP daily to keep on top of. Renal function normal and BP readings in region of 117/72 most days. I am female aged 68. So relieved I've worked out a solution. I also take 32mg Candesartan daily which, on its own, wasn't enough to keep BP stable. I live in UK so cost of prescription covered by NHS."

"I am 45 years old now. I have suffered with chronic kidney stone formation since my late teens. My mid-20s to my late 30s were characterized by landing in the ER every summer in agony as the latest stone decided to emerge from my kidney. Agony. Each summer for 10 years was a trip to the ER for a shot of morphine and a scan, sent home to try to pass it myself. For me, 75% of the time, the stone never made it out so it resulted in surgery to remove it. It's quite grim going through this almost every summer, on your back, and out of action for weeks. So, out of desperation, I went to a new Urologist and after he dealt with my latest stone (Feb 2020), he put me on 1.5mg indapamide to prevent new formations. Now, four years on, I have not developed any new stones, as confirmed by my latest bi-annual CT scan. Total game changer!! I can even eat certain foods that were off-limits before as they were the main culprits: nuts, spinach, and beetroot."
