"I've been on norco, 5x a day with 4 nucynta for about 8 years. I don't want to get doped up on some insanely strong opiate thats makes me sleepy and unable to function. I am able to get things done on this current regime. I have multi-level cervical herniations, c6-c7 fusion, and suffer from Fibromyalgia. No fun. My Dr. switched me to Hysingla 40mg with two 7.5 lortab with tylenol to reduce my over-all tylenol intake...He wants to protect my liver. Which I totally agree with. 30 mins after I took the Hysingla ER, my mouth became dry, My Blood Pressure shot way up to stroke range, and I felt like death warmed over. I have taken just about every pain med at one time or another, for any of my 7 surgeries and I have never felt this bad because of a ER med. This Hysingla med made me feel bad enough to go to the hospital."

"Due to the new laws passed that are taking effect in 2017 your doctor can no longer prescribe the massive amounts of opiates they had been for years. In my state now, first time for pain management (like having a surgery for example) is 3- days maximum. After that 7- days maximum can only be prescribed except in some listed situations such as end term cancer patients. They must change from the short acting narcotics to the 24 hour release, which is meant to stop addiction because you don't get the high rush from the extended release. I suggest you all research your own States new prescribing laws and contact your representative. You will soon all need to deal with this. Most like me, with zero notice. The drug works okay, w/zero "high"."

"I’ve been suffering from chronic pain for 6 years now due to 3 lumbar herniated discs and osteoarthritis. I’ve been taking Norco 10/325 4 times a day with okay relief. Recently my doctor had me try Hysingla 40mg and honestly it just doesn’t work! It only lasts about 16-18 hours and it made me feel very lethargic, anxious and I would have a lot of breakthrough pain throughout the day plus it was $413!! and my insurance refused to cover it. After talking with my doctor he switched me to MS Contin. That medication so far has worked so much better than any other extended release opioid. If you suffer from chronic pain I recommend you try MS Contin. It works great and it’s very cheap even without insurance"

"I have been taking Hysingla 20 mg for a month. I was taking Norco 5-325 up to 4 a day for chronic back pain post 6 surgeries. I was switched to Hysingla due to elevated liver enzymes from Tylenol. I have bile duct structure and do what I can to keep liver enzymes lower. I only took what I absolutely had to daily of Norco. Averaging 2 Norco's a day. Since I have started the Hysingla I have had a moderately severe headache and nausea everyday. I'm not sure which is worse the liver pain or headache. The nausea I tolerate. I have decided to stop taking the Hysingla and go back to the Norco. I would rather take as little as possible of medication and still be in pain than have increase in pain and be flat on my back for 6 hours with headache."

"Pain Dr gave this to my son that lives in chronic severe pain for a year then his insurance changed and He couldn't afford $600 a month . He always told me, Dad, this stuff doesn't help with pain at all and when he gradually ran out he DID NOT HAVE Any WITHDRAWALS from not having it! If it had worked he certainly would be missing it!"

"I haven't taken this Rx for long but it definitely is *not* the best option if you have no breakthrough meds. I'm on 30mg which is to last 24 hours. I'd say it does for 18. It's not horrible but I do think people will keep complaining until they are on a higher dose. The oral bioavailability of this drug is actually lower than Norco. I take Norco 10/325 tid and combined with the Hysingla it's not the worse... but I feel little relief during the day. It does however help me a bit at night. I think docs need to give higher doses than what they are of this med because it's a 24 hour med... 30mgs in 24 hours is not a lot. Well, at least I have my Norco 10/325 to help. Also, I think this med would work better if taken twice daily! But not the worst med!"

"Dr prescribed to me and did not emphasize that my COPD was going to be so affected that I went into respiratory arrest after only my second dose of 80 mg. Hydrocodone. Spent 3 weeks in the hospital and then I had c-diff for close to two years from antibiotics taken for this. All in all I believe this medicine was targeted to poor people on Medicaid (they were the only insurance accepted for Hysingla)and it came close to destroying my life. I only hope the dr responsible is no longer able to practice due to the number of complaints against him."

"Hysingla was offered to me at a pain clinic. It was not really medically necessary, in my opinion. The cost of this medication would be $7000 to $8000 per year for my insurance plan portion and my own portion together. You may want to know, be aware, of how much your plan has to pay and not just yourself. Further, your insurance could stop payment if they consider this drug is just too expensive. I would like to know why a physicians or P.A. would order this particular drug if it wasn't absolutely medically necessary, just sort of a suggestion for some small reason, and a very expensive suggestion. It seems extreme due to the high cost. Also, I would like to see the company that make this drug publish to the public their open payments ,made to providers or institutions and the reason for the payment."

"Been on Hysingla 6 months now; this is my 3rd posting about the experience. I'm using 40 mg ER and have given up. Just too darn tired all the time and 12/24 hours still in back pain so what the hell, I'm gonna ask the Dr to put me back on 10/325 Percs 4 times daily."

"I'm currently on oxycodone 5mg 3 times a day. I talked with my Dr about extended release option and he prescribed Hysingla 20mg for 24 hours. I had high hopes for this because I was hoping for continued pain relief. When my insurance finally approved me for this medication I was happy, that was until I took my first few days doses. It was just too strong and I felt nauseous and sick the whole time I was on this medication. I was go to see my Dr the next month to get back my regular prescription. Hopefully something will come on the market that works for 24 hours with out making me sick."

"24 hr medicine for pain, I only got 6 hours of minimal relief. Started on the 20 mg for 1 month, then Dr switched me to 40 mg for 1 months, then 30 mg for 1 month. It always seemed to start working long after I took it, about 12 hrs and made me extremely sleepy and tired, along with pain. In the 3 months I took it, I gained 15 pounds without even eating more or differently because I was constantly nauseous with it. Who wants food when queasy? I have been prescribed and instant release pain med and have been on 2 days. It works great with no side effects and I have lost the 7 lbs of the 15 the hysinglia made me gain. Hopefully the other 8 lbs will come off quickly too because the weight gain from the drug caused my A1C to go"

"My doctor just switched me from 30mg of MS Contin to hysingla 20mg once a day. Mind you I have been taking the same thing for over 4 years. This hysingla is a joke!!! After 3 hours I was in so much pain I thought I was dying!! Felt like I was going to be sick, and not from the medicine, it was because I was in so much pain. Whoever said this lasts for 24 hours is completely ridiculous. Worst ever!!"

"I am a 70 year old female diagnosed with a condition a vascular neurosis. Due to the opioid crisis, I was told I could no longer use Norco. I was looking for a medication to help with narcotic Norco withdrawal as I knew this would be an issue. I was prescribed Hysingla. 80 mg. After starting to experience breathing issues along with all the other side effects, I have decided to get off of Hysingla. I am under doctor guidance and tapering slowly. BTW, Hysingla NEVER HELPED WITH PAIN...but it did slightly help with withdrawals. Also, I never had any lung disorders...and now I do! I am seeing a pulmonologist and he said Hysingla was the worst drug ever. I also talked with my other doctors and they said it was a very “wicked” . (This includes both a hematologist and oncologist) in their opinion, int should be taken off the market. I believe my primary doctor was trying to help me because of the opioid crisis. I implore anyone who decides to use Hysingla to do the research."

"No help at all. No relief. Became very depressed. My muscles hurt badly. I was switched from 7.5 hydrocodone, which by the way took the edge off the pain, to hysingla 30mg. I noticed right away that there was a lot of break through pain."

"Just started hysingla er 30mg but with norco 10\325. The pain Dr and I have been trying several IR and ER pain relief medicines. I have chronic pain after back surgery l5-l3, plus fibro and arthritis. So I hurt from head to toe literally. I won't give up norco until I know new meds work. That's our agreement. I have had only 3 days on hysingla. I tried mornings but it kept me up that nite so switched to 9pm I think it peaks about 10-12hrs in. I sleep ok. I need to be able move normal again during day! I really can't tell I'm taking it as I'm still taking norco every 4 hrs. They're not great either but least it works somewhat on back pain. I noticed on the 2nd day I'm starting to itch. If it doesn't let up I'll have call Dr office for something else. I hope not I'd like to give full month trial. May be it is too low dose for me."

"Many people complaining about side effects of this medication, however, what they are describing is withdrawal symptoms. This medication is being prescribed at much lower equivalent doses than what people are currently taking, hence withdrawal symptoms kick in. After much research, and after titrating up, my suspicions were confirmed. I was experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the reduction in opioids, not side effects from the medication. Unfortunately, the manufacturer is no longer shipping the dosage I am in need of, so after titrating up for the last several months, I am now in a bit of a nightmare, having to come off this med, which was helping! The last several months were frustrating and painful, but finally relief was well within sight, except the manufacturer is not shipping the dose I need."

"I was on Percocet 10 / 325 mg for about 10 years, and I asked to switch first to a bupephrine patch, which I was too terribly allergic to and had awful withdrawal symptoms from, and then I asked to switch to hysingla because I felt like a pill Junkie and disliked the high/low cycle. Plus, I was starting to cheat and take two each morning of my 4 per day allotment. With hysingla, I had to endure titration to get the right med strength so started out with 10 mg for two weeks. I barely felt relief. Then moved up to 20 mg for two weeks but didn't feel too much difference from 10mg. Then tried 30 mg for two weeks and I could tell it was working but not well enough, so now moving to 40 mg. Hopefully this will be the trick."

"This is an update to my posting late Jan. Now after 4 months of titration I'm at 40mg. But disappointed. I could sleep 12 hours each night if allowed to, constantly tired. And taking a new hysingla pill every 15-18 hours for bleed-through pain. Definitely missing my old four times a day Percs, but I'd be doubling up on those too I'm sure. So Dr says live with it. Pain level at 2. But never any better. And that's disappointing. Dr won't go higher."

"Hysingla is terrible!! It caused extreme pain in my hips, back, and legs. It was prescribed 2 days before a cross country vacation so now I am stuck with this rubbish for 2 weeks at least. I've been on pain meds for 8 years so if I don't take it I will have withdrawal issues."

"I have been taking Hysingla ER for almost one year now. Doctor started me on 20mg and today I am taking 100mg. No side effects for me. I rarely take Vicodin for breakthrough pain now that I seem steady at this dose. It took a while to get me to the right dose. I think it is critical for your pain doctor not to reduce or stop all pain meds when you are on the low doses. It should be done when you get to the dose that works. My doctor was great working with me to get me to the right dose without making me suffer."

"I have had a bad total knee replacement and two rotator cuff surgeries that need to be redone, which puts me in basically constant pain. Pain dr has me on 10/325 Norco and as well as hysingla to take at night because it will apparently help me sleep as Norco doesn’t let me sleep. Well Neither does Hysingla, I just lay there and never fall into deep sleep plus it does nothing for pain. The only pain reliever that works for me is Norco. Any suggestions for pain at night with sleep?"

"I have chronic pain due to problems with my spine; it's degenerative disc related, 20 some years, with no surgery possible. I have been practicing yoga for 2 decades. I have needed pain Rx's off & on. Hydrocodone has worked best for me, leaves me clear-minded, able to do all daily living activities, most critical when caring for our then-young children. I was misunderstood by different Dr.'s who simply will do anything to avoid prescribing what a patient actually needs. I became proactive. I take Hydrocodone 10/325 every 4 hours, (4 x day). At bedtime I take 1, Hysingla XR 20 mg. It was my new M.D.'s idea since the intensity of pain prior to the last epidural was high -I hadn't slept many nights in weeks. I do not know how I would be without Hysingla. I also do not know know how patients writing say they take it in the daytime can do so. I suppose it depends on metabolism, what other medications are taken, & tolerance of XR meds. It is still not perfect."

"I was on 50 mg for MS. I didn't feel ANY RELIEF. I see some praising it but say they take regular hydros too so could it really be that good? If you have increased intracranial pressure, I would absolutely advise against taking. After a month, I noticed my vision getting blurry even though my IIH meds were working. Normal pressure is 15, mine was 62 and required 4 spinal taps. After 2 months, I completely lost my vision in one eye. This never helped with the pain but my Dr refused to put me back on hydros. I found the information where it said it was a risk to people with IIH. I told her and that's when she finally took me off and put me back on regular hydros. After a week, I could see colors and lights, after 2 weeks, my vision completely returned. Maybe it is good for some, they didn't go blind. I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If I have to take an ER med, oxy would be my preference"
