"Everyone complaining about headaches and worse pain need to toughen up and wait two weeks before giving up on Hysingla. The headaches and increased pain I think are from Norco 'withdrawal.' Your brain just needs a week to adapt to the new dosing. Those complaining about it taking a long time to start working or not being consistent are, of course, correct. No XR meds are perfect, but they prevent turmoil caused by peaks and valleys of IR meds...and that is worth it long-term. Give Hysingla a chance. The worst thing about my experience is that during titration, the doctors are following guidelines to 'round down' from their Norco dose. That's backwards, the dose should be higher with any XR."

"I'm currently on oxycodone 5 mg 3 times a day. I talked with my Dr about the extended-release option, and he prescribed Hysingla 20 mg for 24 hours. I had high hopes for this because I was hoping for continued pain relief. When my insurance finally approved me for this medication, I was happy, that was until I took my first few day's doses. It was just too strong, and I felt nauseous and sick the whole time I was on this medication. I was going to see my Dr the next month to get back my regular prescription. Hopefully, something will come on the market that works for 24 hours without making me sick."

"Hysingla really keeps the pain level from my fibromyalgia in check. I no longer feel I am on a pain scale roller coaster. I stay around a 3-4 most days. Others sometimes a 6, but no longer am I at an 8-20 on the pain scale. I also love that I don't feel dopey or tired from the Hysingla version like with Norco."

"I haven't taken this Rx for long, but it definitely is *not* the best option if you have no breakthrough meds. I'm on 30 mg, which is to last 24 hours. I'd say it does for 18. It's not horrible, but I do think people will keep complaining until they are on a higher dose. The oral bioavailability of this drug is actually lower than Norco. I take Norco 10/325 tid, and combined with the Hysingla, it's not the worst... but I feel little relief during the day. It does, however, help me a bit at night. I think docs need to give higher doses than what they are of this med because it's a 24-hour med... 30 mg in 24 hours is not a lot. Well, at least I have my Norco 10/325 to help. Also, I think this med would work better if taken twice daily! But not the worst med!"

"Due to the new laws passed that are taking effect in 2017, your doctor can no longer prescribe the massive amounts of opiates they had been for years. In my state now, the first time for pain management (like having surgery, for example) is 3 days maximum. After that, 7 days maximum can only be prescribed except in some listed situations, such as end-stage cancer patients. They must change from the short-acting narcotics to the 24-hour release, which is meant to stop addiction because you don't get the high rush from the extended release. I suggest you all research your own state's new prescribing laws and contact your representative. You will soon all need to deal with this. Most, like me, with zero notice. The drug works okay, with zero 'high.'"

"I've been taking 4 hydrocodone 10-325 for years and still hurt no matter what, have to count pills so can't take 5 or 6 a day. Now they put me on Hysingla ER 30 mg. 1 pill a day but still hurt 24-7 and can't get any more help."

"My doctor put me on Hysingla ER 20 mg a few weeks ago. Hysingla is causing major problems for me at night. I am waking up 3-4 times every night due to pain and sleepwalking. I believe I need an increase in the dosage or to be put back on my original treatment of Percocet 7.5 mg QID (4 times a day). I am scared that I might walk out of the house and into the road because of this medication. In the few weeks of being on this medication, I have left the house twice within three weeks. The last time this happened was nearly 4 years ago."

"Pain dr gave this to my son that lives in chronic severe pain for a year, then his insurance changed, and he couldn't afford $600 a month. He always told me, Dad, this stuff doesn't help with pain at all, and when he gradually ran out, he did not have any withdrawals from not having it! If it had worked, he certainly would be missing it!"

"Hysingla ER is just another lie! This medicine takes forever to work. Way overpriced! And Hysingla messes with your intestines, causing your bowel movement to become almost like clay. The maker will never tell the full adverse effects to your body."

"I have been taking Hysingla 20 mg for a month. I was taking Norco 5-325 up to 4 a day for chronic back pain post-6 surgeries. I was switched to Hysingla due to elevated liver enzymes from Tylenol. I have bile duct structure and do what I can to keep liver enzymes lower. I only took what I absolutely had to daily of Norco, averaging 2 Norco a day. Since I have started the Hysingla, I have had a moderately severe headache and nausea every day. I'm not sure which is worse, the liver pain or headache. The nausea I tolerate. I have decided to stop taking the Hysingla and go back to the Norco. I would rather take as little as possible of medication and still be in pain than have an increase in pain and be flat on my back for 6 hours with a headache."

"I am a 70-year-old female diagnosed with a condition, a vascular neurosis. Due to the opioid crisis, I was told I could no longer use Norco. I was looking for a medication to help with narcotic Norco withdrawal, as I knew this would be an issue. I was prescribed Hysingla, 80 mg. After starting to experience breathing issues along with all the other side effects, I have decided to get off of Hysingla. I am under doctor guidance and tapering slowly. BTW, Hysingla NEVER HELPED WITH PAIN... but it did slightly help with withdrawals. Also, I never had any lung disorders... and now I do! I am seeing a pulmonologist and he said Hysingla was the worst drug ever. I also talked with my other doctors, and they said it was very “wicked.” (This includes both a hematologist and oncologist.) In their opinion, it should be taken off the market. I believe my primary doctor was trying to help me because of the opioid crisis. I implore anyone who decides to use Hysingla to do the research."

"No help at all. No relief. Became very depressed. My muscles hurt badly. I was switched from 7.5 hydrocodone, which, by the way, took the edge off the pain, to Hysingla 30 mg. I noticed right away that there was a lot of breakthrough pain."

"Just started Hysingla ER 30 mg but with Norco 10/325. The pain doctor and I have been trying several IR and ER pain relief medicines. I have chronic pain after back surgery L5-L3, plus fibromyalgia and arthritis. So I hurt from head to toe, literally. I won't give up Norco until I know new meds work. That's our agreement. I have had only 3 days on Hysingla. I tried mornings, but it kept me up that night, so I switched to 9 pm. I think it peaks about 10-12 hours in. I sleep okay. I need to be able to move normally again during the day! I really can't tell I'm taking it, as I'm still taking Norco every 4 hours. They're not great either, but at least it works somewhat on back pain. I noticed on the 2nd day I'm starting to itch. If it doesn't let up, I'll have to call the doctor's office for something else. I hope not, I'd like to give a full month trial. Maybe it is too low a dose for me."

"Dr. prescribed to me and did not emphasize that my COPD was going to be so affected that I went into respiratory arrest after only my second dose of 80 mg hydrocodone. Spent 3 weeks in the hospital, and then I had C. diff for close to two years from antibiotics taken for this. All in all, I believe this medicine was targeted to poor people on Medicaid (they were the only insurance accepted for Hysingla), and it came close to destroying my life. I only hope the Dr. responsible is no longer able to practice due to the number of complaints against him."

"24-hour medicine for pain. I only got 6 hours of minimal relief. Started on the 20 mg for 1 month, then Dr. switched me to 40 mg for 1 month, then 30 mg for 1 month. It always seemed to start working long after I took it, about 12 hours, and made me extremely sleepy and tired, along with pain. In the 3 months I took it, I gained 15 pounds without even eating more or differently because I was constantly nauseous with it. Who wants food when queasy? I have been prescribed an instant release pain med and have been on it for 2 days. It works great with no side effects, and I have lost the 7 lbs of the 15 that Hysingla made me gain. Hopefully, the other 8 lbs will come off quickly too because the weight gain from the drug caused my A1C to go"

"Many people are complaining about the side effects of this medication, however, what they are describing is withdrawal symptoms. This medication is being prescribed at much lower equivalent doses than what people are currently taking, hence, withdrawal symptoms kick in. After much research and after titrating up, my suspicions were confirmed. I was experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the reduction in opioids, not side effects from the medication. Unfortunately, the manufacturer is no longer shipping the dosage I am in need of, so after titrating up for the last several months, I am now in a bit of a nightmare, having to come off this med, which was helping! The last several months were frustrating and painful, but finally, relief was well within sight, except the manufacturer is not shipping the dose I need."

"I was on Percocet 10/325 mg for about 10 years, and I asked to switch first to a buprenorphine patch, which I was too terribly allergic to and had awful withdrawal symptoms from, and then I asked to switch to Hysingla because I felt like a pill junkie and disliked the high/low cycle. Plus, I was starting to cheat and take two each morning of my 4 per day allotment. With Hysingla, I had to endure titration to get the right med strength, so I started out with 10 mg for two weeks. I barely felt relief. Then I moved up to 20 mg for two weeks, but didn't feel too much difference from 10 mg. Then I tried 30 mg for two weeks, and I could tell it was working but not well enough, so now I am moving to 40 mg. Hopefully, this will be the trick."

"I have been taking Hysingla ER for almost one year now. The doctor started me on 20 mg, and today I am taking 100 mg. No side effects for me. I rarely take Vicodin for breakthrough pain now that I seem steady at this dose. It took a while to get me to the right dose. I think it is critical for your pain doctor not to reduce or stop all pain meds when you are on the low doses. It should be done when you get to the dose that works. My doctor was great working with me to get me to the right dose without making me suffer."

"Hysingla was offered to me at a pain clinic. It was not really medically necessary, in my opinion. The cost of this medication would be $7,000 to $8,000 per year for my insurance plan portion and my own portion together. You may want to know, be aware of how much your plan has to pay and not just yourself. Further, your insurance could stop payment if they consider this drug just too expensive. I would like to know why a physician or P.A. would order this particular drug if it wasn't absolutely medically necessary, just sort of a suggestion for some small reason, and a very expensive suggestion. It seems extreme due to the high cost. Also, I would like to see the company that makes this drug publish to the public their open payments made to providers or institutions and the reason for the payment."

"I have chronic pain due to problems with my spine; it's degenerative disc related, 20 some years, with no surgery possible. I have been practicing yoga for 2 decades. I have needed pain Rx's off and on. Hydrocodone has worked best for me, leaves me clear-minded, able to do all daily living activities, most critical when caring for our then-young children. I was misunderstood by different doctors who simply will do anything to avoid prescribing what a patient actually needs. I became proactive. I take Hydrocodone 10/325 every 4 hours, (4 x day). At bedtime, I take 1 Hysingla XR 20 mg. It was my new M.D.'s idea since the intensity of pain prior to the last epidural was high - I hadn't slept many nights in weeks. I do not know how I would be without Hysingla. I also do not know how patients writing say they take it in the daytime can do so. I suppose it depends on metabolism, what other medications are taken, and tolerance of XR meds. It is still not perfect."

"I have had a bad total knee replacement and two rotator cuff surgeries that need to be redone, which puts me in basically constant pain. Pain management has me on 10/325 Norco as well as Hysingla to take at night because it will apparently help me sleep, as Norco doesn’t let me sleep. Well, neither does Hysingla, I just lay there and never fall into deep sleep, plus it does nothing for pain. The only pain reliever that works for me is Norco. Any suggestions for pain at night with sleep?"

"I was on 50 mg for MS. I didn't feel any relief. I see some praising it but say they take regular hydros too, so could it really be that good? If you have increased intracranial pressure, I would absolutely advise against taking it. After a month, I noticed my vision getting blurry even though my IIH meds were working. Normal pressure is 15, mine was 62 and required four spinal taps. After two months, I completely lost my vision in one eye. This never helped with the pain, but my doctor refused to put me back on hydros. I found the information where it said it was a risk to people with IIH. I told her, and that's when she finally took me off and put me back on regular hydros. After a week, I could see colors and lights, after two weeks, my vision completely returned. Maybe it is good for some, they didn't go blind. I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If I have to take an ER med, oxy would be my preference."

"Hysingla is truly the best option for chronic pain sufferers. Slight headaches, no other side effect. Headache goes away with breakthrough pain relief 800 ibuprofen. It does not give you that 'high' feeling other prescribed opiates do. I disagree with many of these reviews because they all don't like it and want their icy back... there is a reason if you didn't ask, but your doctor just switched you to an abuse deterrent medicine. Please stop making it more difficult in the insurance process to want to cover this drug. There are real pained people who benefit from this medicine and have their lives back."

"Hysingla is terrible! It caused extreme pain in my hips, back, and legs. It was prescribed 2 days before a cross-country vacation, so now I am stuck with this rubbish for 2 weeks at least. I've been on pain meds for 8 years, so if I don't take it, I will have withdrawal issues."

"I took 10 mg, 3x a day hydrocodone for a year prior to a new pain doc in a new state requiring I switch to Hysingla ER. I had only had one 10 mg hydrocodone for each of the two days prior to beginning the Hysingla, so this was not withdrawals. An hour after the 20 mg pill, my heart was pounding hard, short of breath, which progressed to severe abdominal pain, nausea, the worst pain of my life (easily 2-3x my very worst days with stage 3 adhesive arachnoiditis, Ehlers-Danlos, and innumerable tarlov cysts on my spinal cord), joint pain, muscle pain and spasms, and I could literally feel my CSF pulsing in my spinal cord. The doc actually made me take a second dose because she thought I was in withdrawal. I vomited the 2nd one and nearly aspirated it."
