"Started on 100 mg at night. Went to 100 mg three times a day. Now at 200 mg three times a day. Missed my afternoon dose, and about 8:00 pm my heart started beating 110 bpm. I believe it was because I missed that dose. Wondering if your body gets so accustomed to it, your heart runs fast without it. Day after, no issues after taking my gabapentin. Think I may wean off and cut back. I do not want to get into a rabbit hole and end up at 3600 mg a day and no way to get off it."

"Gabapentin is the only thing I have found that reduces the chronic pain of a pinched nerve. I did gain a lot of weight since it has reduced my motivation. I also have acne, which I never had before. Muscles feel tight, and when working out, they become sore quickly. No sense of anxiety, very calm. A lot of small side effects, including almost zero sex drive, but the reduction of the burning, crushing needle-filled sensation in my foot is worth it. Great medicine for severe, chronic pain."

"I have been taking gabapentin for approximately 18 months. The reason for this is following 'botched' surgery, I developed a hematoma 5.5 cm. I had further surgery to remove the hematoma as it was lodged in my abdominal wall. I have been left with a neuroma and neuropathic pain. The only side effects I seem to have suffered are a gain in my weight, and I cannot drink alcohol as it makes me feel sick, but the drug has brought me tremendous relief from pain."

"I have fibromyalgia, OA, as well as RA. I had been on morphine 1800 mgs daily for almost 8 years, and it helped me escape from the abusive man I was married to (now divorced) and went through the total hell of withdrawal I've never experienced since that 20-year marriage! The withdrawal of the opiates was worth it to get myself and my 2 teen sons' lives in order. I'm currently on gabapentin 300 mgs a day, and what a miracle drug it's been without the hateful narcotics!"

"Was prescribed gabapentin for neuropathy from type 2 diabetes. Developed swelling of feet and ankles, but did not help the 'numbness' of my feet and ankles. Praying for something that would help with the numbness without the swelling occurring!"

"Taking gabapentin 1200 mg daily. Still have severe burning and stabbing pains in my hands and feet. I have no side effects, thankfully. Nerve conduction study in 4 weeks. I just don’t think it’s working. This all started after a traumatic birth of my youngest."

Gabapentin "I am using this medicine for peripheral neuropathy (caused by Velcade), and it was marvelous for me. It stopped the feelings of stabbing pins and needles straight away in my hands and feet. I am taking 100 mg 3 times a day and have only been taking it for a week."

"CATSPAW, I read your post. Hang in there. You say your legs hurt at night? I am going through the same thing. I have difficulty walking too. What I suggest to use (I use too) is to get yourself a pair of medical-grade, knee-high compression socks. These will help you heaps, as they did for me. I wear them all day and even when I go to bed. Hang in there. Hope this helps."

"Last year I went off gabapentin as I wanted to get a pilot's license. The FAA was so nasty because I have diabetes that I guess I will never get the medical clearance. Lately the neuropathy got so severe I couldn't stand it, so I gradually worked my way back up to 900 mg a day. What a difference. I may need more later. I did notice a few pounds packed on, and a bit of a blur in my eye with the new lens implant. Now that I know it is the gabapentin putting the weight on, I can be more careful as I want to maintain my figure. Lyrica made me nuts, and I had terrible mood swings. Once I got up to 700 mg of gabapentin, I noticed a big relief."

"Pain relief is limited and barely noticed. I take 1800 mg a day and still need 6 Percocet per day to get enough relief to function. I've tried to stop the gabapentin and couldn't do it without withdrawals. I have forgotten to take medicines with me while out for a long day and also had withdrawal symptoms, which include severe stomach pain and diarrhea."

"I take 800 mg of gabapentin 4 times a day, plus Savella 50 mg x2, plus a special B complex 2x a day. While my pain is better, I can't exercise, walk any real distance, and dread evenings when my legs hurt worst and feel like lead. I am a tightly controlled diabetic with an A1C of under 6, and yet the neuropathy is, at times, unbearable. I was diagnosed with diabetes 4 months after my symptoms started and was checked for diabetes regularly. I don't get it. I have done everything I can to control this disease. I also had 17 spinal procedures, including ablations to kill the nerves. Nothing helps. Any suggestions? Don't know how much more I can take."

"I've had hip surgery, which had a lot of damage to my nerves, and now MS. The Dr. wants me to try 100 mg a day, and I've just started 3 days ago, so I'm not sure if it's really working yet. I am hoping it does, but I do not think that 100 mg 1x a day is going to do it. He wants me to try this dose for 2 weeks and see how it works out, but I'm not too sure it is. Yesterday I had pain so bad in my legs and feet I couldn't even walk at all. It's horrible, especially when you have a 10-year-old and an 11-month-old, you cannot be down in bed, not even for 10 minutes during the day. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced the same dosage at first."

"I have severe sciatica due to lower back degeneration. I also have what I believe to be lipedema, a fat metabolism disorder that causes severe leg pain. I was told that I had lymphedema and then vascular disease. My legs are symmetrically out of proportion with my upper body and chronically swollen. Very difficult. Anyway, I'm taking Percocet, and I started pain management last week, and the Dr. wanted me to try gabapentin again, as I have used it before. I've had/have a clotting disorder, blood clots. I can't take NSAIDs. I took it last night and this morning, and I actually was able to walk down the stairs. The Dr. told me gabapentin is NOT for the pain, as that is what I thought. It's for the inflammation."

"I have been taking 150 mg of gabapentin once each weekend day before bed. I have noticed a diminution of the foot burning over the one month I have been taking it. My doctor suggested that I titrate its use over time and according to pain subsidence. It also helps me sleep better."

Gabapentin "Makes me feel very tired and quite unwell (low mood, upset, sad, etc.). Don't seem to get much pain relief, although it takes the edge off the worst pain. Not sure about it, but think I am negative towards it because it is an anticonvulsant drug and I am using it for neuropathic pain. Positive comments from this site may make me try and think better of it!!"

"My surgeon's PA has me on a very low dose of hydro (had back surgery less than 2 weeks ago), and after a week of still being in pain, he added Gabapentin 600 mg 3x/day. I woke from surgery, and the bottom of my right foot was no longer numb, below my knee to my foot, the pain was near gone (prior to surgery, my ankle hurt so bad it felt broken 95% of the time), and the pain in my thigh and hip was rapidly decreased daily. Yay, my surgery was a success! So the only real pain I continued to have was from surgery itself (they shaved bone from L5 and removed a bulge). After being on Gaba for about 1 week, numbness is returning. I've experienced this before from another nerve medication, so I KNOW it's the Gaba! I see him next week, but I'm reducing the dose gradually to 0 by then. More side effects like others too."

"It seemed to help at first, however, I have had several days of 10+ pain in my feet after walking over 10,000 steps at work. Last night at work, the pain was so severe that I was writhing in pain while attempting to chart on a patient. I was originally told to take 3 100mg tablets a day, however, I have used as much as 1200mg when the pain was so severe, like last evening (January 12, 2020). I have been on gabapentin since September 30, 2019, and today (January 13, 2020), I will see my doctor and ask for an alternative and if I need to see a pain specialist."

Gabapentin "I have severe diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and I've been administered several different medicines to treat my symptoms. I find Neurontin is best for me, but I have to take at least 1200 mg three times a day. Sometimes more. And I worry about that, but I can't live with the constant pain."

"I will just say avoid this medicine if you can. The benefits do not outweigh the risks. By week 3, my pins and needles got 10 times worse. I even started to get small tremors. I decided to stop the medication. It’s been two weeks and I still have not recovered. I’m worse off than before I started. I regret ever trying gabapentin. I would only use this medicine as a last resort."

"I am a 1.5 or latent autoimmune diabetes (LADA) diabetic with fibromyalgia and severe PN. I was given gabapentin 300 mg to start, and I am now up to 3 times a day. I get very drowsy from the medication, but without it, there is no way I can sleep or walk. It has been very helpful for me, though I am once again having troubles sleeping and wonder if an additional pain medication might help manage the gabapentin in relief or if perhaps I should try a different medication. I'm not sure if there is a tolerance level for gabapentin, but for small PN and nerve issues, it has been a very effective medication."

"I have SLE lupus. I'm a diabetic, and I'm on dialysis. I'm currently taking gabapentin 300 mg daily. Before dialysis, I was taking 300 mg 3 times a day. The nephrologist says taking more than 300 mg daily would be harmful to me, and because of the decreased dosage, I still have the pain. It's more like a really intense burning and itching sensation. I can't go anywhere or do anything because right now the only relief I get is when I'm rubbing my feet. Sometimes it does this, and my blood sugar is normal, like right now. My podiatrist won't change back my prescription based on what my nephrologist says. I'm miserable right now and don't know what else I can do. Please somebody help!"

"This is the only drug that works for me. I use it in combination with a holistic remedy (Nervefix) as well as 500 mg a day of alpha-lipoic acid and chelated magnesium and a host of other herbal medicines for various other complications and for general health. I am trying to reduce the Neurontin, but it is very difficult as it does keep the neuropathy at bay."

"I was diagnosed with neurosarcosis. I was in so much pain until I started this medicine. I have taken it for 6 years now, and I take 2400 mg a day in 3 doses. I, like so many others who have commented, can feel the pain coming back about 30 mins before my next dose. I would not be functional without it. As time has gone on, I have noticed more forgetfulness but can blame it all on the medicine."

Gabapentin "I've been on this medicine since reading about it online last year. Anyway, I now take 2400 mg/day, and my severe face/ear pain is virtually gone. Once in a while, I can feel some pain, but it's minimal and doesn't last the days it used to. Excruciating pain to the point I can't even stand the touch of a brush on my scalp on that side of my head or a face cloth on that side of my face... it's wicked pain that I'd do almost anything to get rid of. This medicine works well. I take no other pain medicines other than Advil or Tylenol for other minor pain."
