For Insomnia "I took flurazepam for over 20 years with absolutely no problems whatsoever, and now I am one of the many struggling with withdrawals after it was discontinued. I understand the nightmare that many of you are going through. I called Mylan out of desperation and was told that the 15 mg was re-released last week. I dropped my prescription off today, and it will be in stock for pick up tomorrow. CVS in my area was not able to get it at this time, but Walgreens did. Don't wait for an announcement or any notification. You have to be proactive and get your prescription and get it filled. I am hoping this is the solution to this agony since I am on a tapering cocktail of other medications that I will now have to discontinue. Like many of you, I simply want my life back. I tried my best to struggle through the withdrawals, but they are so severe, unpredictable, and lengthy that I made the decision to go back on the medication. Best of luck to all of you."

For Insomnia "I have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome, as well as insomnia, for 3 decades. I've tried them all. Flurazepam is so inexpensive and works great for me. However, it is almost impossible to find pharmacy-wise because no one is making money from these old meds. So, since patients cannot fill their scripts, doctors then have no choice but to hesitantly discuss off-label pills that are available at every pharmacy: pricier, heavy-duty antipsychotics as a bludgeon that might cause sleep, but more often cause only restless legs, weight gain, and akathisia. It is very unfortunate that great doctors' expertise is disregarded in favor of the almighty dollar to the extent that we are unable to fill 'non-profitable' prescriptions."

For Insomnia "Everything others report here is true. Flurazepam is infinitely better than any of the 'equivalents' my doctors made me try due to worries about 'half-life,' etc. But I've been taking flurazepam since the days when it was Dalmane, and it is a lifesaver. No hangover or loss of alertness the next day. A sure sleep the following night -- what my wife and I call the 'dead cat bounce' -- and no side effects. I almost never take it two nights in a row to avoid tolerance buildup, but with the dead cat bounce one doesn't really need to. This is an old-fashioned medication that is still ahead of its time."

Flurazepam for Insomnia "I had a hysterectomy and was suffering from no sleep at all. My doctor gave me Ambien, and it did work for the first few nights, then sleepless nights returned. A few days ago, he gave me Dalmane, and I couldn't be happier. I am sleeping all night now. However, I do have a slight headache in the morning."

For Insomnia "Like others here, I had been on flurazepam 30 mg for decades. After many sleep tests, this was the only one that actually helped me until it went off the market. After the long delayed reappearance recently was reported, I kept checking with my pharmacy for a while. I use a CVS here in Massachusetts. No luck. But finally, and I hope it helps others, I was told by someone at CVS that their system does not order a supply until there is an Rx order from a customer/doctor. I had been waiting for availability before I asked my doc to send the Rx. But I found out that the CVS wouldn't get any before there was an Rx. Sigh. So I told all this to the doc, and she sent an Rx, and a couple days later I got the pills. First time in over a half year that I've gotten sleep for more than 3.5 hours. And it has worked for two nights now. Good luck to others. Hope this helps."

For Insomnia "I used to take 30 mg flurazepam nightly for chronic insomnia. Once it was taken off the market, my Dr. tried many substitutes, all with drawbacks, including ineffectiveness. I started taking flurazepam again recently and am unimpressed. At 15 mg, it did nothing. I was awake the entire night. I tried it again the next night and was still awake. The third night, I bumped it to 30 mg and finally drifted off after 4 hours of lying there wide awake. I'm not sure what to do next, but it's really disappointing that my old favorite doesn't help like it used to."

For Insomnia "I was on flurazepam for forty-five years. I took 15 mg every night! Sometimes I would take them before bedtime and other times in the middle of the night! Never had a problem with aftereffects and woke up each day ready to go! I could travel anywhere, anytime! Anytime except when I went to pick them up last November. O.M.G. the big stock problem. Under the guidance of a pharmacologist, I am now on my fifth month of a withdrawal program! So tempted to go back to my former self and not put myself through this ordeal! The worst part is the tinnitus, which is constant. Thank God the volume differs each day! Now that I’ve gone so long, I’m going to stick with it for at least another four or five months! At 83 years old, I wonder if it’s worth it. I am afraid that they might stop producing it again! Anyone out there going through withdrawal? I am presently weaning off lorazepam."

For Insomnia "Have used for years without any side effects. My problem is staying asleep after the first 4 hours. I take it after I've had a few bad nights; no hangover, I still wake up during the night if prompted by noise (or having to use the bathroom), but lets me go back to sleep. It truly is a wonder drug. Discovered it in graduate school; took daily for 30 days prepping for comprehensive exams. It gave me 8 hours a night, allowing me to maintain my concentration during the day, and then I just stopped after the exam and didn't take it again for 10 years. I also use it when I travel--it's wonderful for jet lag. Perhaps it is addictive for some people, but we all have different chemistry. I am a high functioning professional, and this sleep aid helps keep me functioning; it does not impede my functioning as other sleep aids do. Simple drugs like this--compared to Ambien et al. that scramble your brain--need to be preserved. Perhaps writing to Roche would help?"

For Insomnia "I've been taking the generic of Dalmane for over 13 years, and it works very well most of the time. I've never had any problems filling my prescription at Rite Aid until recently when the pharmacist said that the company who makes it (Roche) isn't making large lots of it. Apparently, that's why it's been difficult to get on a regular basis. There have been times I've waited a week to pick it up after calling in the prescription, and I can honestly say, I've not experienced any side effects other than what I recall before I started taking them... not being able to sleep. Before Dalmane, I tried other sleeping medications, and they didn't work, or I was concerned about side effects: Ambien just worries me. Oh well."

For Insomnia "I have been on Dalmane for 20 years... then could not find it anywhere! It is horrible! I could not sleep, started to shake, could not find words when talking... then the nausea! My daughter talked to a pharmacist, and he suggested Temazepam because it is the same family as Dalmane. That has helped, but must check with my doctor for dosage to get until Dalmane (flurazepam) is out of my system. It is terrible that a drug so many people used to get some sleep is discontinued! I am furious with Roche! They have made me so sick! I feel sure that all the comments were just like me... something to help... not misuse. Why did they just stop selling it? I thank the pharmacist for telling me about Temazepam. It has helped me."

For Insomnia "I took flurazepam 15 mg every night for 29 years until it became unavailable. It worked well, and I never had any side effects. When it became unavailable, I had severe withdrawal effects only partly controlled by alprazolam. Recently, flurazepam became available again, and I have taken it twice at bedtime; unfortunately, this new batch causes very bad stomach pain and back pain -- I never had anything like that before in the 29 years I took it. It might be from China or India, but there's no way to find out because the drug manufacturers are not required to make that information available. I'm wondering if anybody else has had a similar reaction to the new product."

For Insomnia "Flurazepam is a great sleep aide. I have no hangover effect and it helps get the normal sleep pattern on schedule. I take this after not getting good restful sleep. I take it for 4 days, then after that my body goes to sleep without it. I have been on this for 19 years, no problems."

For Insomnia "I have panic disorder coupled with sleeplessness. I have tried all kinds of medicine for sleep, and none of them worked except one that they took off the market. I've been on flurazepam, which is the generic for Dalmane, and I go to sleep every night just like a normal person would, and I do not wake up hungover. Been on it for 15 years. No, it's not covered by my prescription drug plan, and there's no other generic for Dalmane. This is very upsetting for me as I cannot sleep without taking it. Maybe there's something else on the market that might work, but I don't want to be hungover."

For Insomnia "I suffer from insomnia and GAD. I am 75 years old and have been taking Dalmane/Flurazepam for the past 55 years. When taking that long, it became my friend and I never increased. Went to pick up my prescription in June and could only get 20 pills vs. the 90 prescribed. When I asked why, I was told discontinued. I then contacted six other pharmacies and the same. I am now on Clonazepam 0.25 mg, and it isn't enough for sleep. I am going through some withdrawals and getting an average of only 3 - 4 hours of sleep. Really upset with 'Big Pharma.'"

For Insomnia "Been using Dalmane twice a week for over 30 years. Have always had chronic insomnia, to the point where I could go as many as three nights in a row with no sleep at all. Dalmane works wonders for me. It doesn't knock me out, just gives me the push I need to finally get to sleep. It does cause a slight bitter taste, and I find that I am slightly irritable sometimes the next day, but that is a small price to pay for 8 hours of sleep. Never have to take it two nights in a row and once went an entire year without it and experienced no discomfort or anything resembling withdrawal symptoms. I come from a family of anxious insomniacs. Dalmane has been a blessing for me."

For Insomnia "I had been on a 30 mg dose of flurazepam for over thirty years to help me get a good night's sleep. I've suffered from fibromyalgia for many years, and flurazepam is the only prescribed medication which has helped me break the cycle of sleeplessness and bodily pain. When Mylan Labs put it, inexplicably, on backorder in 2019, I went through a period of intense fibromyalgic pain and discomfort. Thank goodness Mylan Labs in Canonsburg, PA, has begun production of it again as of last week for the 30 mg dosage!"

For Insomnia "Ok, was here back in July, only 6 weeks of no flurazepam then. Going on 7 months now and life has been completely altered. This is entirely due to heightened anxiety (which I did NOT have before) and still can't find a substitute. Also told it was going to be available on Dec 6-9th only to call and find out about the additional delay. This has been a nightmare! The thought that this can happen again is a NIGHTMARE!! I envy the people that still have some available to use? HOW? Where do you get it from? Happy Holidays!! Thx MYLAN!"

For Insomnia "I was on flurazepam for 55 years. I had no idea it was discontinued until I went for a refill. I ended up in the hospital dehydrated, low blood pressure, calcium way down, about to lose my mind. I am still struggling, but after reading this, I am hopeful I can get some more soon. PS I used temazepam, but it doesn't do much."

For Insomnia "I'm in the same boat as many others. While I did not take flurazepam every night, I certainly relied on it when I needed a really good night's sleep - maybe once or twice a week. I'm struggling to sleep through the night without it. One good night's sleep will carry me over a few nights. Ambien puts me to sleep, but is only good for about 5-6 hours, so I wake up at 4-5 a.m. and have a hard time going back to sleep."

For Insomnia "I have been taking flurazepam for over 40 years, and it has been very helpful with insomnia and also anxiety. I have very few pills left, so have tried temazepam 15 mg and 30 mg, and both doses have been pretty ineffective. I hope flurazepam does come back in December. Has anybody found a good substitute for flurazepam?"

For Insomnia "Lifelong insomniac since my early teens. Was prescribed flurazepam (Dalmane) in my early twenties. Absolutely life-changing. 2023 was devastating when Mylan stopped production. I was prescribed alternative benzodiazepines that I still have residual side effects from. Chartwell started producing flurazepam late in 2023, and I started taking it again in January 2024. Works like it always has. Effective with minimal side effects. My only complaint, as others mentioned, is the sudden, massive price increase. Went from $20/month to $600/month overnight."

For Insomnia "This is a terrible thing. They should have known this when they took so many people off Dalmane in the late 1980s and early 1990s, who went through terrible benzodiazepine withdrawal due to the drug's very long half-life. Nothing can make me sleep like flurazepam 30 mg, other than a barbiturate-derived medication. During this shortage, I’ve found I’ve been able to have my pharmacist order them from West-Ward Pharmaceuticals. Thank God I went 2 months without this medication when they withdrew the brand name Dalmane somewhere a little after 2010, and it was terrible. If you need this medication and there aren’t really any other options, you should be able to have it. If used correctly, it gives me restful sleep every night."

For Insomnia "I also had been taking flurazepam, not necessarily nightly, but when I had to get up early and needed to be ready to go without any kind of 'drug hangover.' I still had refills left in July 2019 but was unable to refill them. I was forced to try other meds for sleep issues. Temazepam did not work, and Ambien 5 mg works great for six hours, so if I head to bed before 11 p.m., I've noticed over time that six hours later, I am wide awake, and there is no falling asleep again, even if it is 5 a.m. or even 4:15 a.m. Nothing fun about this. Maybe my BP will settle down when I can finally get a good night's sleep. Hoping this medication will be available soon."
