"I absolutely love Annovera and would highly recommend it. I was nervous about Annovera because I’ve had such bad side effects in the past on BC ( weight gain, severe depression, anxiety, loss of sex drive, mood swings, you name it I had it) and I also currently suffer from occasional migraines and prone to yeast infections so I was nervous this would make them worse but after doing a lot of research still felt like this was what I wanted to try. I have had very minimal symptoms on this, if anything it’s actually lessened my period symptoms and made me feel more mellow. The worse side effects I’ve had are breakthrough bleeding, which is annoying but I’m only on month 3, it seems to be getting better and if that’s the worst symptom I get , I’ll take it! I do get headaches the week I take it out, but they aren’t unbearable just annoying. And I did have one spell of anxiety when I took it out and had to put it back in. But weirdly anytime it’s in I’m a happy camper!"

"I was on Nuvaring for over 10 years and it worked well for me. The only con was having to wait in line at CVS every 90-days to refill the prescription or hope that the mail away option arrived in a cooled package. I was searching for a similar birth control option that didn't need to be refrigerated and I saw commercials for Annovera. I asked my Dr. about it and she told me it was new and she wasn't sure of the side effects. I figured I would give it a go. I switched from Nuvaring to Annovera in Sep 2020. I have been on Annovera for 6 months and have been experiencing several side effects. The worst of them all are the severe yeast infections and terrible itching. I have been in and out of my Dr. office and it's embarrassing and painful. I am also experiencing fatigue, sporadic nausea, irritability, & pain during intercourse. I am so annoyed that this ring has so many side effects. I am making the decision to stop taking Annovera. It's not worth it."

"I have been on ANNOVERA for a year and 1 month. I just got my new ring this month. The first 9 months went very smooth, no side effects, no mood swings, no pregnancy scares, no spotting. At month 10,11,12 I noticed spotting happening about a week before my period. This was frustrating and made me feel like I was bleeding for half the month. Getting a new ring solved this issue. Maybe the amount of hormones was becoming less? Regardless of the spotting, this is the best method for me (the pill and nexplanon made me moody and my periods were more irregular)."

"I was on annovera for a year. I’ve been on nuvaring and the implant before and this is magical compared. No side effects, no mood swings. It makes your period really light, like a day or so of spotting. I'm off of it now and I feel more mood swings and PMS symptoms than when I was on it. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it but just an observation."

"I was on NuvaRing for about a year and I LOVED IT. My insurance quit covering it randomly and I swapped to Annovera. At first I was a bit intimidated by the thickness of the ring compare my to NuvaRing, but after using it, it feels the same. It’s great so far! No side effects and you only change it once a year!"

"Have been on the Annovera ring for about 8 months. Prior to having my first child almost 2 years ago I had used the Nuvaring for 10 years. I really liked the Nuvaring just hated having to go get my prescription refilled every month. At first I really liked the annovera ring, its more bendable and softer than the Nuvaring. The last few months I have noticed multiple side effects I never had with the Nuvaring; intense abdominal pain, hot flashes during period, weight gain and intense cramping. I am going back to using the Nurvaring."

"So my experience with Annovera was great! I loved the freedom that it allowed and seemed like a step up from my previous experience from nuva ring (5+ years). It was easy to insert and maintain. No thinking! Awesome! I had taken a break from my previous birth control (copper IUD which I didn't like and that I had had for several months). Initially my chest swelled and were painful to the touch for a couple months. That’s since gone away. My periods are predictable and light (2 days after removal). However, the depression that I’ve been experiencing has been so much I think I’m going to take it out. My sex drive is at zero. I’m not sure what’s up, but I’m not in a good place. Any and all hormone BC affects me this way. I think I paid $64 with my insurance coverage."

"DONT.DO.IT. I have been placed on many different birth controls and this Annovera is by far was the worst. Migraines, vagina discomfort during sex, no sex drive, PAINFUL periods, and to top it all off I ended up with an infection that placed me in the hospital. I’m currently doubled over with some of the most painful cramps I have ever experienced. Please take it from someone who has tried everything. Explore other options."

"I used Nuvaring for 15 years without side effects and changed to Annovera because of its annual prescription, no refrigeration, or monthly hormonal waste (more environmentally friendly). I like the concept and have used it for 9 months but confirmed my suspicion on symptoms on this platform; for the past 3-4 months I’ve had on and off breast tenderness (on Nuvaring only prior to menstruation), near-daily cramping, more painful periods/PMS, and recently, hormonal acne which hasn’t happened since college and spotted for the first time ever. My immune system is weakened/compromised as soon as I've taken the ring out and find I must take it easy or catch colds. I've been exercising more/dieting but have been unable to lose any weight whatsoever. If I stray, I actually gain weight. The cherry on the cake has been my emotional sensitivity as I cry more easily – I will be changing back to Nuvaring next cycle and am curious to see how long before symptoms dissipate."

"0/10. I’m 18, and I was on Annovera for two months until this weekend when I got my period unexpectedly. Not just a normal period, but an EXTREMELY painful one. I was screaming crying on the bathroom floor shortly before I passed a decidual cast … look it up. Worst four days of my entire life. With further research, I realized I’m not the only one who has had this same experience with Annovera."

"This birth control has been a blessing. I’ve tried a few other options and none of them worked for my lifestyle. I asked my doctor about this after seeing the commercials and she wasn’t aware of its benefits, but agreed to offer it to me if I followed up with her if I had any problems at all. Besides a day or two of feeling a bit off I can say it’s been nothing but smooth sailing from there. The soft texture and easy to put in and out makes annovera very appealing. You literally forget you have it in. Try it for yourself."

"I started using this ring in November ‘20 and just took it out Feb ‘21. I don’t recommend using this birth control. This BC gave me multiple headaches/migraines, I was nauseous the first 2 days after inserting it in again and after I took it out. This BC also gave SEVERE anxiety.. Being someone in their 20’s I have anxiety already BUT this BC took it to another level. I won’t be inserting this BC again because of these symptoms."

"I tried this birth control Annovera after my last annual. I took it out after 2 weeks. The side effects were too strong for me to try to wait out the 3-4 months for my body to adjust. I had headaches, no energy, anxiety, and severe bloating any time I ate. I have food intolerance issues that make me prone to bloating & this birth control exacerbated it. I really wanted it to work because of the convenience, but I switched back to NuvaRing as I wasn’t having any issues with it to begin with."

"I have been using ANNOVERA for four days and they have been the hardest days of my life, I don’t think I’ll even keep it in a week. A couple of hours after I first inserted it I had stomach cramps and a headache but since I always get headaches I didn’t think too much of it. The next morning I woke up feeling nauseous and threw up, my body also felt fatigued so I called out of work. I went back to sleep and woke up again throwing up. I also experienced serious chills. On day three I was extremely sleepy and every time I woke up I felt hot and sweaty like I had a fever. I continuously had chills and a constant headache that made me feel super irritated. Throughout the day I had noticeable mood swings. Today, day four— I woke up with a fever and headache that has been persistent since I inserted. The back pain and stomach cramps have come back as well. The migraine is so bad that my eyes literally hurt and light makes it so much worse. I’ve also had chills all day."

"I just started Annovera less than a week ago and the side effects have been terrible. The first couple days I had a headache and nausea so bad I had to leave work. Today, day 4, I felt so depressed I could barely get out of bed. I've had depression in the past but it's been very manageable lately. Today felt like a particularly low point which usually comes after days of warning signs, not out of nowhere. It was so bad I took the ring out but I plan to put it back within the 2 hour window. If the side effects don't go away soon I'm going to switch because I can't handle a 2-3 month adjustment period like this. If the Annovera did me one favor it was convincing me to switch to non hormonal birth control soon. (This doesn't mean its not for anyone but my experience so far hasn't been good)."

"I’ve been on annovera for about six months now and I have a mixed opinion. It is really easy to use and it’s convenient for use but I’ve been experiencing a lot of side effects: I get random cramps in between that feel a lot like period cramps, headaches from time to time (never really had them before), nausea, and the main thing is that it’s affected my mood a lot. I already had anxiety before but it’s so intense now, I feel incredibly moody and sad a lot and my sex drive has never been this low. Probably going to see it out for the rest of my year but probably won’t take it for another year."

"I started Annovera because I had been on Nuvaring (which I love!) for over 10 years, but after I joined the military, I needed something more readily available than just a 3 month dose of birth control, and I had such horrible experiences with different IUDs. I have been on deployment for 6 months and have put on 25 lbs! I know they advertise that weight gain is not a side effect, but I don't know what else could be causing this. I have not changed my diet or activity level, if anything I am more active. I have had extreme breast tenderness, but not very much nausea, but I am getting annoyed with the headaches. It has also squashed my sex drive (not that I need one on deployment) But as soon as I am off deployment and can get Nuvaring, I will be sticking with that."

"I've been reading the reviews here saying they inserted annovera, and I'm just sitting here mouth open bewildered on how anyone got the thing in. I tried several times and all I got for it was a sore vagina and the pain taking its sweet time to go away. I washed it off, dried it and it was so slippery and the fact that it's round makes it impossible for me to get in at all. It just rolls away, and it's so soft that it just folds in half when I try to push it in. I have no clue what to do, and I'll have to contact my doctor and probably fight with my health insurance to get prescribed something I can actually use."

"This was the worst birth control I’ve ever taken! I love the concept but it doesn’t work for me. I tried it twice but could not get past the nausea. Both times I kept it in only one day and got so sick that I couldn’t continue on. Not only was I nauseous but I also had chills and extreme fatigue to the point where I felt lethargic. I literally couldn’t get out of bed and I felt so sick. I really really wanted to love this but it looks like I’ll be going back to the neuvaring."

"Used Jan. 2020-May 2022, Sept. 2022- Takeaway: So easy to use and stop using that I’d recommend it. Just monitor your mental health over the first months. My biggest symptom has been increased anxiety, but it’s hard to tell how much is due to this med. With this med as one of *many* possible factors, I developed OCD-like levels of preoccupation and fear three months after starting. Other Effects: - Felt mildly fatigued and achy for first few days, like I had a stomach bug, and was slightly nauseous and sensitive to certain foods - Period lightened, shortened, and became even more predictable. Cramps became milder - Thick clear or whitish discharge. I often had to wear liners or swap underwear midday. Hasn’t happened the second time around yet - *Possible* increase in screen headache sensitivity (hard to prove) - Decrease in libido and *possible* decrease in attraction to then-partner (could’ve been natural) - Skipping 2+ periods caused bleeding and darkened ring"

"I've only been on it a week my side effects so far: 1.My weight I started at 115 it bounced up to 117 perhaps due to breasts. My waist has not changed and I'm not bloated or retaining water. 2.My face does look a little puffy but for me not a bad thing cause I have very shallow cheeks and nasolabial folds are deep. This helps make me look younger I feel. Couple bumps but I know it's from not keeping my sunglasses clean 3. Emotion wise I've been a little teary but in a good way. I was previously on Effexor and it dulled all my emotions except the need for sex"

"It worked for me for about a year, no change in weight, my acne was worse while on it unfortunately. The typical larger breasts and lighter shorter periods. I did not experience nausea or any other symptom from this form of contraception like the pill did for me. Be wary though, I was constantly getting BV and yeast infections, and I used water to clean my ring every time like the instructions say when I removed it for my period. I am nursing student so I know how to wash my hands as well. Another issue is I did experience a birth control failure with my second ring and became pregnant after 7 months of use on that ring. Now I know this is a low percentage, and can always happen but I assure you I tracked my ring with the app and it did in fact fail."

"It woke me up from nausea in the middle of the night and made me throw up at 4 am. Not fun. Supposedly only 5% of people have side effects like this. I have no noticeable side effects from the pill, so this was a shock to me. I also had trouble getting it in place. I don’t feel like I could ever get it to fit how it was supposed to."

"I switched from birth control pills to annovera and I love it!!! On the pills I was having irregular periods in the middle of packs and having to take the tablet daily. I had awful acne, bloating and was always irritable. On annovera, my skin has cleared up so much it looks wonderful, it helps keep my period mild and actually shorted my cycle to 4 days! I have had little to no side effects (slight nausea the first month of use) and I don’t have to remember to take a daily pill. On top of that, I can leave it in for intercourse and not worry about using any back up method with my husband. I am very happy with annovera and plan to keep using"

"I previously used the Nuvaring. I liked the idea of it and after a year I was switched to annovera. I loved the idea of having a full year with no worries. It's comfortable, and after I finally get it in I can't feel it. However, I had trouble with bleeding while on Nuvaring but I was told it was a rogue period everyt ime. So when it started on this one, I ignored it. Well I've been bleeding full on for two months and I finally took it out. None of my obgyns cared to find out if anything is wrong in the past and I am just so tired. My sex drive was at 0, and I regularly felt my cramps."
