For Birth Control "I am on my third pill of my second pack, and I have decided to stop. I feel absolutely terrible on this medication, but I noticed I feel the worst in the first week of the pack. I have pre-existing anxiety and depression, and Junel Fe 1/20 has made it unbearable. I’ve experienced bloating, nausea, sore breasts, irritability, no energy, and a negative sex drive. I thought I was going crazy until reading this thread."

For Birth Control "This birth control honestly does not deserve all the negative reviews. I've been on it for 3 years and have had no side effects. My sex drive is lower, but I think that has more to do with being a mom and not a selfish young adult anymore than it does with this medicine. I haven't had a period in the last two years, and it has been absolute bliss, no more ruined birthdays, anniversaries, beach vacations, etc. I was anemic in the past, and my periods used to be so debilitating that I would have to call out of work for the first day every month. I also suffered from cold-induced urticaria since I was 7 years old, and this birth control has somehow made that ailment completely vanish. Now I can go places without a jacket or swim in cold water and not have my body break out in hives. I seriously love this birth control, it has changed my life in incredible ways that I didn't even think were possible."

For Birth Control "I gained a little weight at first, but my body adjusted about 2 months in. These are great because the 'placebo' pills have iron in them. I am on birth control strictly to keep from passing out each month. My period was causing me to lose too much blood and causing anemia, so the iron is a must. If you take this birth control, be sure to take the brown pills instead of skipping them like so many people do."

For Birth Control "I got put on Junel Fe 1/20 as I told my doctor I needed a low-dose birth control. I haven’t had any negative reactions to it. I do take it later at night at 10 pm, and that works out for me. It’s been 4 months of taking it consistently, and so far I like it; makes my period super light and lasts 2-3 days."

For Birth Control "I started on Junel when I was 17, and I've had 0 problems with it. I didn't gain weight, feel depressed, or anything. My skin was cleared and my period got pretty light. I switched birth control pills for a while a few years ago (Junel wasn't available where I was abroad), and it was terrible! I was always sore, tired, gained weight, moody, etc. (this was a first-gen estrogen pill, unlike Junel, which is a low dose). I then switched back to Junel, and all those problems went away, thankfully. Everyone is different, but for me at least, Junel has been perfect."

For Birth Control "I'm moving through my second month of these pills after having tried Depo-Provera, which I hated, no sex drive, extremely mental... Seasonique, which caused teenage-like acne, wacky spotting... I like Junel Fe so far. I didn't know the brown pills are iron, thinking they were just sugar, I didn't take them and suffered low iron headaches. This month I'll take them. My period was quick and light, minimal cramping, not even bad enough to take painkillers. I do have a metallic taste in my mouth that started recently. I hope that goes away."

For Birth Control "I started taking Junel Fe after taking Sprintec for three months, and at first, I liked it. It is effective for birth control, but I had the worst side effects. It made my face break out, I gained some weight, and it made me so moody and depressed. Going on month five, I spent a lot of time sleeping and spending time alone because of the pill."

For Birth Control "In February, I started Junel. It's been very good with almost everything, but it hasn't helped with my cramping. I have regular periods that aren't heavy or light, they're just sort of painful. I haven't had any breakouts, major weight gain, or bad nausea. As for spotting, it only happened for a few weeks during my first month on Junel. My breasts also grew about a cup size."

For Birth Control "I'm on my 7th month of this pill, and it has been great. The first month was a little rocky, I broke out a lot and had really bad anxiety and depression, but it went away after the first month! Everything has been good from there. My periods are SUPER light and last 3-4 days. They used to be heavy and last up to 7 days. I also rarely get cramps anymore, and when I do, they are bearable. It hasn’t affected my sex life, and I’ve always been anxious/depressed, but this pill hasn’t made it worse. Also, not pregnant! So it works."

For Birth Control "Around December of 2011, my OBGYN prescribed Junel to me. Honestly, it's been great. My periods are lighter than they've ever been before. Previously, my cramps when I got my period were absolutely horrible. Now, I can only tell my period's coming when I'm on the fourth row of pills. Being regular is a huge plus. Also, my fiancé and I have not found ourselves in any trouble while using it. As much as a couple may find themselves having sex, we have never once had to face the consequences. These have been great to me and my relationship!"

For Birth Control "I have been on this birth control for 7 years and do not have complaints. I never experienced negative side effects and did not gain any weight. Before going on this birth control, my periods were irregular and had been for 6 years. I can pretty much predict the hour I will get my period each month. My periods only last 2-4 days now and are very light. The only 'problem' I have had is, over the past few years, I have skipped a few periods (about 3 or 4 a year). I talked to my OBGYN, and he said that is nothing to worry about. Overall, I think it's a great birth control."

For Birth Control "I've started taking this pill about a month ago, and the only complaint I have is I broke out along my chin and jawline. It's beginning to clear up, and I heard that it takes 1 or 2 packs for the acne to balance out. So far, I love this pill!"

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I really liked this birth control. I only experienced light acne about a week before my period, no cramps, stomach pain, or any other period symptoms. My period always came the day I started the brown iron pills. They were so light most of the time I never even used a pad or anything. I haven't used a tampon since I went on the medicine. I ended up going on Yaz because my mom thinks I should have a heavier period and that it's not healthy even though my cycle is regular. Overall, this pill is great."

For Birth Control "I’ve only been on Junel Fe 1/20 for almost 2 weeks. I never write reviews but always read them. So far, my experience has been positive. I was very hesitant to go on a birth control (BC) medicine because of how it made me feel in the past (Yaz), but after 3 kids and extremely heavy periods, I was desperate for relief. I started taking it the Sunday after my period began, and it lightened my normally heavy period within days. However, I’m still spotting, and it’s been almost 2 weeks (normally, my period is 7 days and incredibly heavy). I assume this will only last until my hormones and body regulate. The most positive thing about this is that I still feel completely normal emotionally and on an even keel when, in the past, this kind of medicine would make me weepy and angry. I am very happy with it so far and have high hopes for my period to be lighter and more regular! I’ll stick with it."

For Birth Control "I tried this medication for 2 years, and the negative effects didn't start until about 6 months into taking it. I experienced irregular periods, with only one occurring every 3-5 months. Additionally, I suffered from terrible anxiety, irrational fears, chest pains, mood swings, and prolonged periods of agitation for no apparent reason. I completely lost interest in sex, had night terrors, and felt paranoid, especially regarding personal safety. I ended up making several visits to the emergency room, believing I was having a heart attack, only to be told it was just anxiety. My stomach was upset every day for over a year, starting from the time I woke up (6 AM) until around 2 PM. (I took my pill at night before bed.) These side effects affected all my personal relationships because I constantly avoided being around people. After being off the pill for over 3 weeks, I have finally started to feel more like myself. Week by week, I noticed significant improvements. My sex drive has returned, my mind feels clear, and I am genuinely happy again. I am no longer overwhelmed, and I have regained my patience while losing the constant irritation I used to feel. It's important to share your story and experiences."

For Birth Control "Ever since I started taking Junel Fe, I’ve been having mood swings, and I would get really irritated easily and emotional at times. It's only been a month, and I am going to stop taking it. I know I should give it more time to work, but I cannot deal with the dark thoughts. I’m anxious more and feel depressed. My mental health is more important than this."

For Birth Control "I read reviews on this site before I started taking Junel myself, and some of the experiences almost scared me away. But I remembered that most people that have bad experiences are the ones more likely to write a review, so I decided to still give it a chance. I used to get very painful cramps during my period, and I was always in discomfort because of the cysts I had. Now, my bleeding is short, light, and pain-free, and I have no more aches from the cysts. My skin is clearer now too, so that's a bonus. I admit, the first two weeks my breasts got very sore and sensitive. But that subsided by week 3. I also got nauseous at first, but again, it went away within the first 3 weeks. I'm on month 4 now and doing well. The only thing I can say is that I do get more easily irritated than before, but it's honestly nothing I can't handle. Overall, I'd take some moodiness over the agonizing abdominal pain I experienced pre-Junel."

For Birth Control "Within days, I felt my entire mood begin to switch. I have never had dark thoughts like I began to have when taking Junel Fe. Extreme anger isn’t even the best to describe it, you can tie your own shoes the wrong way and it would make me mad. Anxiety at an all-time high where my mind would run wild or I would even be sometimes too anxious to get out of bed or out of my car to go into work. I didn’t gain any actual weight (sometimes water weight), but I always felt heavy, bloated, and downright disgusting. The mood changes and water weight aren’t even the worst. I would experience a lot of “breakthrough” bleeding, but it wasn’t spotting, it was a full-on period, and HEAVY!! It was like a monster period, super heavy and would last for days!! I also experienced cramping randomly throughout the month and not just close to/during my period. I do not recommend this birth control unless you want to start turning green and become the Hulk."

For Birth Control "I was switched from Microgestin due to insurance (I was on that brand for a year and NEVER had any side effects). The second I started Junel, I turned into a different person. I'm just going to break down my symptoms by month: Month 1: nausea, two weeks of breakthrough bleeding, migraines, sore and swollen breasts. Month 2: bloating, spotting, headaches, bowel problems, increased appetite. Month 3: EXTREME anxiety and paranoia, worse bloating, mood swings, leg cramps, abdominal cramping. Month 4: lower back pain, uterine and stomach cramps, intense bloating, mood swings, even worse anxiety. Literally thought I was pregnant this month because I didn't have any bleeding whatsoever and because my stomach hurt constantly. Do not take this pill if you have anxiety or depression. It has made me stress about pregnancy more than when I was relying on the pullout method. The ONLY plus side is that my withdrawal bleeds are super light and my acne (sorta) cleared up. I hate this medication."

For Birth Control "I'm very happy with this medicine for a few reasons: the first one being that I have not gotten pregnant, the second because I've been on other birth controls that gave me very bad side effects, some of which forced me to go to the hospital. Last but not least, and definitely not least, it kind of slowed my metabolism down a little, and I'm extremely happy with that because I'm very skinny and it was hard for me to put on weight before this medicine, but now I'm putting on weight very slowly. I have been taking it for 2 months now, and I'm sticking with it."

For Birth Control "I wanted to share my experience with this birth control because of the bad reviews. I’ve been on it for about two months now, and the only bad side effect I’ve had is sore breasts (they are REALLY sore before my period, to the point I need to put ice on them). Other than that, I’ve really liked this pill. I’m a 23 y/o with an average diet, and I work out 3-4 times a week. I haven’t had any weight gain or issues with cravings on it yet. My sex drive doesn't feel like it’s changed, but I also have a pretty high one, so maybe it’s just become more normal. I had some light spotting when I first started the pill, but it regulated quickly. I previously took Camilla and spotted ALL the time, even after using the pill religiously for a year. My gynecologist said it’s possible on June that I’ll get to the point where I have no periods at all. Overall, I’ve had a pretty good experience, so I would just recommend trying it if your doctor thinks it could work best with your body."

"I love Junel. I was switched to Junel after my previous birth control had me bleeding for 3 weeks at a time every month, and I got really depressed and gained a bunch of weight. Now I am on Junel, and I LOVE IT. I have lost 10 pounds, my headaches and acne are gone, my depression has decreased, no more fatigue, and I have yet to have a heavy period. I only have 3 days of light spotting, and I must say my sex drive has finally come back since my last birth control completely diminished it."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on Junel Fe for about 5 months and haven’t found the relief I was searching for. The first month went on without a breeze, but since then it’s been a disaster. My cramps have lessened but still are a nuisance and require medication to allow me to function properly. My cycle is completely irregular, I haven’t had a period while on my placebo pills the entire time I’ve been on Junel. I bleed on my active pills each month, and it’s still not regular or consistent, which terrifies me, thinking my birth control is not effective. My mood is ALL over the place, and my anxiety has been through the roof. My skin has sorta cleared up, but I contribute that to me not wearing makeup anymore. I contacted my doctor to change pills. This was my first time using birth control, and this experience was far from what I wanted. I kept giving it time so my body could adjust, however, I didn’t want to suffer anymore. Hopefully, I can find something that really fits my needs and doesn’t make things worse."

For Birth Control "I am almost through my third month of Junel Fe, and I feel a lot better than I did when I was taking Taytulla. On Taytulla, I developed a phobia, had anxiety attacks regularly, and experienced the worst depression of my life! After taking a year off from birth control, I am taking this, and my periods are very light, my cramps are not as painful, my acne is GONE, and no depression and minimal anxiety."

For Birth Control "I have been on a variety of birth control pills for 15 years now, and Junel is by far the worst medication I have ever experienced. Immediately, I experienced severe mood swings and depression. I stayed on Junel for 2 months, but nothing ever improved. 3 years later, a new doctor accidentally prescribed Junel to me, and I decided to try it again. Again, immediate mood swings, depression, etc."
