For Birth Control "So, I recently went off birth control for two months (because I wasn't using it for pregnancy prevention anyway) and decided to start taking the pill again to regulate my cycle. Almost immediately, I experienced small hives/acne along the hairline, which gradually became acne/hives/cystic acne on my face, head, neck, and chest. I've never reacted to a birth control like this, but after thoroughly eliminating any other source for this reaction (allergies to food, soap, Xmas trees, etc.), I can safely say it is the culprit. It's been a month, and I'm switching to another brand. All other symptoms were fairly mild and typical for starting a new birth control."

For Birth Control "I was prescribed Lutera before, but was given the generic version through NuRx. I lost 9 lbs on Lutera over 4 months, which was a blessing since I had been trying to lose weight for 2 1/2 years and was hoping to lose more weight. Then I was prescribed Vienva, its generic version. The good: I have fewer migraines, I am in a better mood, and facial hair growth has slowed down, which has reduced some acne caused by it. The bad: I've gained 11 lbs in 3 weeks since I've been on Vienva, I have this constant 'I'm hungry' urge, and my period lasted 8 days with the same blood flow for 7 out of those 8 days. It's a new BC, so I'm going to see how my body reacts to it after 3 months, but so far I am not too happy with this BC. I probably wouldn't recommend it if you are overweight and have been trying to lose weight, as it can really ruin whatever work you've done. If you can try it out for 3 months and see how it goes, I'd say give it a shot. Every body works differently."

"I was recently put on this medication 2 weeks ago. I've read all of the reviews, and most people are taking this for contraception, as far as I've seen. I'm 41, and I started to notice that the two weeks before my period I became a nut, crying or angry, face breaking out extremely badly, and holding about 8 lbs of fluid during this time. I was also having intrusive thoughts as well as extreme pain in my left side, specifically in my left kidney area and hip. When I would start my period, all this went away, but I was on my period, so I was only looking at 1 normal week a month. My gynecologist seems to think this is all hormones caused by endometriosis and put me on this to even me out and help with the pain. I will know more definitively next week, as that will be the week before my period if it's helped with my mood any, but in these 2 weeks, I will say that my face all of a sudden started clearing up, and I've had more energy, and my boobs are a lot bigger, and I've never had boobs, so not mad!!!"

For Birth Control "I'm 27 and have been taking this pill for almost a year. It's helped with regulating my period, and my severe cramps have gone away completely. Unfortunately, it's caused me to have extremely oily hair and skin, which has made me have bad breakouts that are really difficult to manage, and no matter what I do, my hair is very greasy all the time. My hair and skin have gotten to a point where it's affecting my mental health, so I'm going to be switching off this brand. It's just not worth it."

For Birth Control "This birth control was fine other than the fact it gave me horrible acne. I’ve had acne before, but not to this extent - I might be sounding dramatic since it was not anything like cystic acne, but compared to my skin beforehand, which was perfect… it was bad for me. Deep, hormonal, painful acne that honestly made me depressed and not want to show my face anywhere. Glad I’m getting off of it and switching back to my old one! But, it works differently for everyone, I guess, just not for me."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on Vienva for 3 years, I also use it to skip my periods. I don’t really remember having too many troubles starting the pill, but here’s my experience using it LONG TERM. Periods: I’ve been blessed with having very light and regular periods my whole life, and so skipping them with this pill is a breeze. Vaginal effects: No change in my sex drive, it’s still high. However, this pill will make you discharge a lot. Health effects: I have never had any headaches or health issues caused by the pill. Missing the pill: If you miss more than two days, you’ll probably have breakthrough bleeding. If you stop taking it for about 2 weeks and then go back on, you’ll definitely experience some acne, hormonal changes, increased appetite, but that all stopped once I was back on for about a week. Hope this helps! P.S. I’m White, 20 years old, 5’3”, 125 lbs (started BC at age 16, weight 140)."

For Birth Control "I’ve been taking this for two weeks, and I actually feel better than I have in a long time. I only get a little spotting sometimes, which is natural, and just a few pimples, but nothing super out there. I actually was diagnosed with depression, and this has brought my mood up. I’m not even crying at the damn puppy commercials anymore. It’s been great! I never was a big eater, maybe one or two meals a day, if that, and this has increased my appetite. I love it because the fatigue of not eating was awful, now I feel a lot more energized."

For Birth Control "I shall preface this by saying that I’ve been on multiple different brands of birth control and Depo-Provera since I was 16 years old. I am 20 now. I have been taking Vienva for about 8 months now, and I’ve noticed that since I’ve been taking it, I have an increase of acne. Previously, I’ve never had chin or hormonal acne, but that is now something I have because of this medication. Also, at least 3 times a month, I’ll wake up from my sleep extremely nauseous and usually have an episode of vomiting. I am currently typing this from my bathroom floor as tonight is one of those nights. For pros, this birth control does its primary job well, a.k.a. preventing pregnancy. Also, I deal with extremely horrible long periods, and Vienva has somewhat helped with that. It’s kind of hit or miss, as sometimes I’ll get my period twice in a month or I’ll get it once for only 5 days (amazing for me). Overall, I don’t think this pill is awful, however, I don’t think it’s compatible with me."

For Birth Control "I've been on this birth control for about 2 years, and honestly, it's been great. It made me lose 15 pounds, and it made my period regular and decreased it from 8 days to 5. Minimal cramping and a little bit of mood swings, but not horrible. It does give me acne around my jawline and my chin, but I've had acne before this birth control, so it wasn't anything new for me."

For Birth Control "I’ve been taking this birth control for almost 3 months. The first few weeks of taking the pill, my face broke out really bad with acne. That went away after about 3-4 weeks, and now I don’t have any breakouts. However, I noticed that my mood has been extremely low, I’ve been irritable and feeling depressed since I started this pill. Yesterday was my last day taking it. I am going to try a new birth control, I can’t deal with the mood swings or feeling down all the time for no reason. As far as periods, I didn’t experience cramps on this pill. My flow was the same, but no cramps. I used to experience extreme menstrual cramps off the pill. So it helped with that. Also, I notice I do feel nauseous randomly sometimes since starting this pill."

For Birth Control "Vienva didn’t mentally affect me in any way. However, the first month or two, I had horrible acne breakouts in my chin area, somewhere that I have never really ever broken out in my life. I Googled face mapping for acne, and the chin area is linked to hormonal breakouts, which makes sense. You’re literally adding hormones into your body. It eventually cleared up and was fine. But I have had irregular bleeding. I’d get my period, but it would be so much lighter, almost not a real flow. You’d think it’s just spotting. And it would last for about 2 weeks. This time around, it’s been going on for over 2 weeks now. So, I contacted the pill club to switch my prescription."

For Birth Control "This birth control, for me personally, really helped my mental health after being on Sprintec, which gave me really bad anxiety and emotional mood swings. My mental state has never felt better than being on this pill. However, I'm having way worse physical side effects now than on my old pill. Intercourse is extremely painful, even putting in a tampon feels like it’s burning. I never had this issue before. It’s also made my acne worse than ever (I get hormonal acne easily). On the plus side, it hasn’t made me gain any weight. If you’re using this pill for reasons other than birth control, it’s great. However, if you’re using it to have unprotected sex, then it’s kind of pointless because sex has become so painful, and it lowers your libido too. However, every person is different, so what doesn’t work for me might work for you."

For Birth Control "I've been on birth control pills for more than 5 years and recently changed it to Vienva. At first, it's not really so bad, the migraine is not every day, but after the first month, it gave me lots of whiteheads and a few pimples (I barely had pimples previously) and bad, bad mood swings. I'm always irritated, makes me angry really, really fast. Sometimes I get brain fog, or sometimes I don't feel like myself. I'm just hoping after a few more months of taking it I'll feel better."

For Birth Control "I thought I was crazy, but reading all the other reviews makes me feel better knowing I am not the only one. Have developed cystic acne that is painful. Never have I had acne like this. Also feeling way more emotional, and even though I am working out more than ever, I have gained weight and my breasts are huge. My period has become really regular, and I do have less migraines than before, so that has been the positive."

For Birth Control "Okay, so this is month two of this pill. I have experienced acne!!! Weight gain!! I’m now in the process of making a doctor's appointment due to what seems to be a UTI. I was never a fan of birth control. I have never taken birth control before this, and I don’t feel confident with my body anymore. I work out 2-3 times a week, and no matter what I eat, I seem to not get a handle on slowing my weight gain."

For Birth Control "I have been on birth control for about 15 years straight. I have never had a problem. Suddenly, my Loestrin was changed out of nowhere to Vienva. I went along. Recently, I noticed after almost two years, on the placebo week, my face cleared up and I just generally felt better than usual, which is weird for a period week. It took me a long time to realize Vienva was the cause of two years of anxiety, depression, horrible acne, and who knows what else. I am so grateful for these reviews, so I thought I’d leave one. Please keep track of your symptoms when switching brands. I am no longer taking this and hope to get better. I will say it is effective in preventing pregnancy."

For Birth Control "This was horrible. Random spotting, piercing headaches, lots of acne, and very tired. I tried it for 4 months, giving my body time to acclimate. It was awful. I had to get it changed because I was just so tired all the time, and my face was constantly covered in pimples, even though I’ve never had any."

For Birth Control "I have been taking Vienva for almost 3 years now, but recently opted for a new BC. My anxiety has progressively gotten worse, my boobs are always so tender (and have grown from C cup to DD). I have irregular bleeding even when taking the pills regularly, and worst of all, I developed night sweats! I haven’t read anybody talk about the night sweats, but I saw one review mention hot flashes. I am literally 27, so I’m nowhere near menopausal age. Oh, the worst for me was the terrible cramping during rough sex! I remember when I first switched to this BC, the second time I slept with my now boyfriend I started having the most intense abdominal pain I had ever felt. He had to give me Advil and place a warm towel on my stomach. I should’ve switched right then, but I loved that I didn’t get dried out like with my old BC. Pros: I didn’t get acne, headaches, nausea, or pregnant (thank God)."

For Birth Control "I have been on Vienva for a month and a half. It’s made me more gassy, given me minor rashes on my wrists, caused acne, and possibly made me depressed because I haven’t been myself lately at all. I already had no pain during periods before, so I don’t know if it helps with that. It’s nice to have the added protection against pregnancy, but it doesn’t seem worth it, I will probably switch methods soon."

For Birth Control "If I could give this pill zero stars, I would. Costco unexpectedly switched me to Vienva from Orsythia. I took it for two months before I just couldn't take it anymore. The constant fatigue, weight gain, and acne are all things I could have managed. But the effects these pills have on your mood are awful. I already struggle with depression and anxiety, and these pills just amplified that tenfold. Within four days, I was constantly crying, lost all interest in any activity, and became very hopeless, even suicidal. Nobody should have to feel this way."
