For Birth Control "I will have been on Aviane for two years as of next month. Once my prescription ends next month, I find it is time to get off of it. It's done its job preventing pregnancy, and I do have shorter periods. However, I have gained 20 pounds in the past two years, went from a 34 C to a 38 D (on the brink of DD), acne has stayed the same, and I have experienced mood swings, anger, and depression."

For Birth Control "I switched to Aviane from Yaz since the pharmacy told me it was the same but cheaper. It was not! I took Yaz for over 5 years and switched to Aviane, and have been taking it for about 1 year now. PROS: Short period, no mood swings. CONS: My acne is SO bad and getting worse. (I actually have a much more healthy lifestyle than before, so I don't know what else it could be.) I need to switch back soon or else my face is going to be wrecked. Also, very low sex drive, like almost nonexistent, which could be a pro or con."

For Birth Control "At 35, I have tried many BC pills out there. I post reviews, good or bad, to let people know of possible benefits or side effects. Low dose levonorgestrel has been the best pill for me. Always the least side effects. Inactive ingredients played a part in how each brand affected me as far as spotting or not. I was switched back to this type of pill after 3 weeks of straight bleeding on a minipill that only got heavier. This pill slowed a lot of the bleeding, but I still have some light spotting. The nurse said once I have that 7-day withdrawal bleed, I shouldn't spot any longer on active pills next month. She most likely is right because any pill I have ever used that has less than 7 placebos or is designed to eventually stop my period, my body retaliates and I get breakthrough bleeding until I switch over to a brand with 7 placebos. Hope this helps any of you ladies having BC pill issues."

"I started using birth control when I was 13 years old and am now 19 1/2. Aviane was the first thing that my doctor prescribed. I went from having heavy periods lasting over a month and being spaced up to 6 months apart to having light, almost pain-free periods that last 3-4 days. I used to have horrible cramping and lining issues, but now I rarely have light cramps and my moods have been so much better. I haven't experienced any side effects and never want to go off of birth control. I do not need a contraceptive, but it works amazingly for periods and hormone regulation!"

For Birth Control "If I could give Aviane a zero, I so would. I had the best skin before I took this... beautiful skin, and I am not exaggerating, this stuff made me break out to the max. I now have severe acne and have had it for months now, it’s so bad that I don’t want to go anywhere. I went to the dermatologist, and I’m now on antibiotics and prescribed medicine to put on my face. This is terrible. I would tell no girl/woman to ever, ever take this birth control."

For Birth Control "I tried Alesse in the past and liked it, but it made me feel extremely tired. I decided to try the generic Aviane to see if I felt different. I'm only on day 11, but I don't feel mentally well. I'm starting to feel irritated and depressed. I'm finishing the pack and will stop taking this pill. Our emotional health is much more important."

For Birth Control "I have only been on this birth control for one week. DO NOT TAKE THIS. I have been angry, anxious, and having really dark thoughts. I am never like this. I noticed my behavior changed drastically over the weekend. I also now have a yeast infection. I'm very red, and the skin is sore. I wanted this to work, but it has been scary as hell. I hope I go back to normal ASAP. Please monitor your mood if you are new to taking this."

For Birth Control "I was nervous to take this birth control. I’ve taken 3 other types, all pill form. I had previously experienced side effects from those pills, such as increased hunger, paranoia, huge mood swings, irritability, quick weight gain, etc. With Aviane, I haven’t noticed any of that, my period is lighter and shorter, the pills don’t make me feel nauseous or weird, and my mood is 100% normal and me. However, it has been a lot harder and slower of a process for me to lose the weight I have gained from the other pills. Normally, I lose weight relatively easily, but not the case here. Other small negative is I do experience some cramping a few days before placebo week starts."

For Birth Control "I recently got switched to this birth control as a trial for my mood swings. And the first month of taking the pill, everything was fine until it was time for my period. My period was abnormally light, but hormonal acne came back hard. I wake up to one to two cystic pimples a day, and it is so hard to keep under control. Even after period week, it keeps on coming, and it’s making me stress out. Nothing has changed besides acne, which is a big factor. Getting switched to my old BC pills ASAP. Truly debating stopping these pills for the time being."

For Birth Control "Aviane is the BEST birth control pill I've tried, don't let the bad reviews scare you! I've been on so many: Microgestin, Azurette, Apri, Trinessa, and Tri-Lo-Sprintec, to name a few. I've had side effects with all of those. I had things like breakouts, bloating, insomnia, constipation, mood changes, breakthrough bleeding, so I was nervous to start this. I have not had a single side effect on Aviane! I was worried about maybe having breakouts since I have sensitive skin and was previously on Accutane, but my skin has been smooth and clearer than ever since starting! No bleeding, bloating, or mood changes. I wish I had started it sooner. And my doctor said it's a great low-dose pill. If you have tried them all and lost hope of finding a good pill, try this one, trust me!!!"

For Birth Control "I was prescribed Aviane a year ago, and have since enjoyed my experience. My discharge is slightly thicker, but still has normal consistency from time to time. My period is very light, and my cramps are mild. Before, I used to have bad cramps. I will say that my libido seems to have slightly decreased, but I find I just need a little more time to warm up. Recently, I have been experiencing anxious and depressive symptoms, but that could be a result of the COVID-19 pandemic."

For Birth Control "I've been taking the Aviane birth control for 9 months. 2 months ago I started feeling my pregnancy symptoms-usual things started smelling weird, I would wake up starving, I started getting in my feelings (emotional) and watching certain movies I would cry. ✋Wait a minute, am I pregnant? Took 3 tests, all were negative. So I guess the fact that I've been taking it for so long, it actually kicked in and I'm experiencing the side effects. I have gained maybe 10 pounds since being on it, and my weight is staying."

For Ovarian Cysts "This is my first time on birth control, and I've heard so many stories about how Aviane gets you all irritated and nauseous, but so far, in the one week I've been using it, I feel perfectly normal. I'm not sure if that is because I just started, only time will tell. I'm not having any cramping in my ovaries because of my cysts so far. 10 out of 10 for me!"

For Birth Control "I've been on this birth control for 3 months and have not gained a single pound. I've actually lost weight, which was surprising. I have not had any side effects other than mood swings for the first week I went on it and spotting the week before I got my period. I don't use condoms with this birth control and have sex every other day and still haven't gotten pregnant. I really can't say enough positive things about this birth control."

For Birth Control "I've been taking Aviane for about a year. Cleared up my acne within a month or two; I don't get any cystic acne anymore. It's a relief. I don't get any side effects, and it definitely evens out my mood."

For Birth Control "I just want to say I found this site very helpful. I had been on Alesse previously and switched to Aviane because it was so much cheaper. Since switching, I have found that I am more fatigued, am losing an alarming amount of hair, and feel sick after I eat. This page helped me a lot because, until now, I was stressing out thinking that I was possibly pregnant (I have had lighter periods since I started 3 months ago, but that only added to the problem). I am still going to take a pregnancy test, but after reading this article, I feel like I will be able to at least sleep tonight."

For Birth Control "This birth control was awesome. It's very hard for me to go on birth control because I am sensitive to hormones, but this one was perfect. The only side effect I had was sore breasts, but it wasn't that serious for me. I'm on Lessina now, so I no longer take it (they are related). It's perfect too, but I don't have sore breasts on it."

For Birth Control "I've been on this pill going on six years now, and I cannot recommend it enough. My once debilitating menstrual cramps are much lighter, and my period has shortened by three days. The pill is so consistent, I can monitor my cycle down to the hour my bleeding will begin. I have had no negative side effects at all. My acne has been reduced but has not completely disappeared. The pill is effective at preventing pregnancy. Great birth control option that I have my own control over."

For Birth Control "I have been on this birth control regularly for almost a year now. I am very sensitive to the hormones and experienced extreme sickness, I mean to the point I was throwing up every morning and on the verge of passing out, no matter what I tried to prevent it. I learned that taking it in the morning solved this problem. Negative side effects are that I have a huge appetite (thankfully a high metabolism), constant headaches, worse PMS, no motivation, tiredness, irrational mood swings, and last week I noticed breakthrough bleeding and cramps halfway through the pack. But all in all, my periods are short and I'm not pregnant yet! Remember, every woman is different."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on this Aviane pill since February (so about 5 months now), and I absolutely hate the way it makes me feel. Ever since starting Aviane, my periods have been at least 10 days long or more, and my last period lasted a full 2 weeks, which is incredibly annoying. I have the worst mood swings ever and cry at the slightest things and often find myself hysterically crying for no reason. I have felt incredibly depressed since starting Aviane and want nothing more than to feel like my old self again. The only positives of this pill were that I didn’t gain any weight, didn’t experience any acne breakouts, my sex drive didn’t decrease, and most importantly, I didn’t get pregnant! I talked with my doctor, and she believes the reason for my symptoms is that the dosage of hormones is just too low for my body, so I received a prescription for a pill with a little bit higher dosage (Marlissa) and will be starting that soon."

For Birth Control "I have been taking the Aviane pill for about three months now, and it’s honestly been great! My boobs definitely grew two cup sizes, and my acne flared up at first, but everything balanced back out after the second month. I highly recommend this contraceptive!"

For Birth Control "This is the first birth control I've ever been on, and it works great. I've been on it for about 6 months. My period only lasts 5 days now, with no spotting whatsoever. I've had no abnormal bleeding; however, when I'm on my period the first day, my cramps hurt a little more than usual. My minimal acne is about the same, but during the first few months, I noticed that Aviane cleared my skin up quite well. During my periods when I stop taking Aviane, my acne might flare up a bit. Some days my mood swings get worse; I find myself angrier at small things or I get depressed for no reason. It's not a big deal to me. My weight also stayed about the same - I've lost almost 3 pounds, but during the first few weeks of taking Aviane, I was hungry a lot."

For Birth Control "I've been using Aviane for about 3.5 years now. I did notice some major mood swings getting on or off the pill, but after about a month, I think my hormones regulated back to normal. Other than that, I haven't had any other side effects unless you consider an almost non-existent period a side effect. I still get paranoid when I miss a period, but so far, so good. This has worked for me."

For Birth Control "Switched to Aviane from Lutera. Terrible mistake. First, my period was longer than normal (8-9 days). Second, I have fluid retention and bloating that kills my sex drive, so I don't even know how the actual medication affects my libido. My skin is now oily and uneven, with increased acne on my shoulders and back. My weight was steady and only varied about 2 pounds on any given day until I started this junk. Avoid it. Don't do it. Switching back to Lutera and throwing this out. I would rather be pregnant than deal with this medication."
