For Birth Control "I was on this pill for almost 2 years as of a week ago. The first week of taking it, I experienced mood swings and weight gain, but it settled after a while. I was good for about a year, never got pregnant, but just recently I noticed I had severe side effects, from depression to being angry all of the time. I even started to get irritated 'down there' after every cycle. I just switched to Tri-Sprintec, so hopefully this works wonders. Don't go off of my horrible experience, everyone's body is different."

For Birth Control "I was on this birth control for a few years. I had absolutely zero problems. No weight gain, no terrible cramps, although I did have normal cramping. I did feel emotional at times, but not anything that was affecting me majorly. I was switched to a different birth control, and I’m not happy."

For Endometriosis "I'm 40. I have endometriosis for the last 15 years. I had an operation once. I resisted using birth control pills after the operation, and they grew back. I had a second operation, then I had shots for a year to stay in menopause; then I started to use Aviane. Now I don't have terribly horrible pains anymore. I'm happy with the result, but I gained a lot of weight even though I do work out. But I prefer weight instead of pains. I think I still should thank Aviane."

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for several years, overall, it has been good for me with no skin issues and less cramping. I have noticed decreased sex drive, slight weight gain, and slight increased BP, but not to a significant point. Overall, satisfied with this pill over others I have tried in the past."

For Birth Control "I personally was on Aviane for about 8 months. The first 3 months were pretty much flawless. I had a problem with my appetite to begin with, gained some weight, and dropped it shortly in the next coming months. Didn't experience any acne or stomach nausea. After three months, my period got progressively worse. I had intense cramps and felt downright miserable. My entire body ached. Aside from feeling awful, I was miserable to be around. I had mood swings I've never had before. Aviane was driving me crazy on my periods. I felt like a different person. My friends, family, and boyfriend could even tell I wasn't myself. Just wanted to put this out there, if someone was curious, there are other options."

For Birth Control "This was my first time on a birth control pill, I am 22. The first month on it was fine, no bad side effects besides my skin got so, so, so, so dry. My forehead flakes, side of my nose flakes. My skin has always been combination but never had such flaky dry skin, same with my scalp, itchy and flaky. On the second month, started gaining weight, feeling bloated and so severely tired. I have a cleaning obsession, and taking this pill made me so lazy and tired. It is the third month now, and I've gained 10 pounds, skin is drier than a desert, horrible cramps, gassy, and my nipples are so sore. I have been panicking about being pregnant, but it is nearly impossible. My boyfriend and I take so many precautions. This pill is horrible."

For Birth Control "I'm finishing up my 1st month of Aviane, and all I have to say is it is great. I've had a little spotting, but it's never that much, and it never lasts for more than a couple of hours. I haven't gotten any mood swings, no weight gain, and my acne has cleared up very quickly. This is definitely the birth control I would like to stay on. Even though everyone's different, this pill works great for me."

For Birth Control "I went on Aviane to make my periods lighter. It definitely helped in that way, but I've now been on it for 5 months, and I am constantly hungry. I gained 15 pounds (120 lbs to 135). Although that is the only side effect, the weight will not come off! I've been increasing my amount of exercise, and it's only making me gain more. I weighed myself yesterday, and I went up to 140 lbs."

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for a month now (never been on birth control before), and I am going to start a new pack tomorrow. Personally, I have had no weight gain (I actually lost weight), my moods were a little off the first couple of weeks, but they are back to normal now. I experienced mild spotting at the beginning. However, I did not get my period during the placebo week, so I am a little confused about that. I spotted for around 3 days right before placebo pills, but I don’t believe that it was my period. Also, my skin has broken out significantly (which could be because of my period coming soon????), but it has definitely not done anything to help my skin so far. Hopefully my skin will clear up, because then this pill would be amazing!"

For Birth Control "I used this for a few reasons. It helped make my periods lighter. I never had issues with that. But: 1. It made my hair fall out and thin out. 2. It gave me bumps all over my forehead. 3. I believe this pill aided me in becoming severely depressed. I've never been like this in my life. But I was heading in that direction while taking this. I felt completely numb every day. I naturally have anxiety and depression, but I have never been that bad ever. I think it made it worse. 4. I kept getting UTIs after sex while on this. I was always very dry 'down there.' Most likely due to the pill. I think it helped cause infections. 5. I also gained a few lbs on this and wasn't able to get rid of it, it seemed like. I stopped taking it and went on something else. My skin cleared up. My hair doesn't fall out as much. I haven't had another UTI so far. I'm definitely not as depressed as I was, but I want to wait longer to see with that."

For Birth Control "I was on another birth control for over a year, and it was fine, but it gave me too much depression. I switched to the Aviane, and the past two months haven’t been that great. My acne is the worst it has ever been in my life. I had some really bad periods in the beginning. The worst part for me is that the Aviane has caused me to gain ten pounds in two months. I’ve weighed the same weight for the past three years. My mood has improved significantly on this pill, but I hate my appearance so much now I don’t know if it’s worth it. I kind of want to quit hormonal birth control altogether now, it’s been a tough experience."

For Birth Control "Aviane made me feel terrible. After taking it for just two days, I couldn't bear the side effects, so I stopped immediately. I experienced extreme bloating, weight gain, moodiness, crying for no reason, depression, sore ovaries, muscle cramping, back pain, and a migraine headache!"

For Birth Control "I've been on this birth control for about two years, and this is the only one I've ever used. I can say I've definitely gained weight, but I'm sure it had to do with many other factors as well. Sex drive decreased, and I get moody and irritable. However, nothing is extreme, and it does its job. I've noticed constant mood swings the week after my period or the first week of the pills, so I sometimes double up to avoid the dip in hormones. I guess it's good enough to the point where I don't want to trial and error any other one, so that's why I stay on it. Everyone's bodies are so different."

For Birth Control "Was on this for a year, just stopped last week. I started this pill to help with my cramps because I would be in extreme pain from my periods. Needless to say, it fixed my cramps but caused me other problems. Gained 29 pounds, yeah 29 & I work out 4-5 times a week & eat pretty well. Ridiculous amount of weight to gain & it destroyed my skin. I had beautiful skin with occasional pimples around my period, but this made my skin have acne scars & break out every day. Awful. Gave it a 2 because it prevented pregnancy, that's it."

For Birth Control "I took Aviane for only 10 days, but in that time I gained a bit of weight, had severe migraines almost every day, spotting, and severe nausea. I have migraines triggered easily normally, but this was ridiculous. I woke up one morning and almost threw up because I constantly felt so sick. On day 11, before I could even take my next pill, I started my period very heavily with very painful cramps - I wasn't supposed to start for another 2 1/2 weeks (this is what I was put on the pill to control)."

For Birth Control "Just finished my first pack after never taking birth control in the past. Very slight improvement in my acne, made my breasts a little bigger, and helped increase my sex drive. However, it did make me gain weight and get some pretty bad mood swings. I will continue to take this pill to see if these side effects wear off."

"I have been taking Aviane for the past 3 years, and I have no complaints whatsoever. You may have headaches, nausea, or spotting when you first begin taking it, but that's just your body getting used to it, don't be fooled by terrifying reviews if they've been taking it for less than three months. Before I started Aviane, my cycles were INSANE. I would be in terrible pain, and the changes in my hormone levels were so extreme that I would often have excruciating migraines and vomit for 8+ hours. Now my periods are very light, regular, and typically last for only 3 days. My skin is clearer, and while I did put on some weight at first, it was less than 10 pounds, and I've already worked it off. I would recommend this pill to women everywhere."

For Birth Control "I’ve been taking Aviane for 5 months now, and the first few months were great. I had no problems whatsoever, and I would only take the orange pills and skip the last row because I don’t have to take them. I feel that it has made me gain weight, and I see myself constantly snacking, and I know I didn’t use to do that. It also doesn’t give me any energy, and I always find myself feeling down at times. Also, for 2 months now, it has caused me to breakthrough bleed, which the amount of pads I've been using is insane. So this time, I started to take the last row of the pill pack to see if it could stop my ongoing period. Hopefully, it works because honestly, I think that’s the only problem that I’ve had with this birth control, and it’s my first time taking birth control as well. I’m just so tired of wearing pads every single day for 2 months now, so I’m hoping it works as a birth control."

For Birth Control "I started taking Aviane in 2017 when I was 19 years old. I always had debilitating periods that would last 7-9 days. Day one, I’d always stay home from school/work because of the pain. After a few months of use, my periods were much lighter and the cramps were way more manageable and only 3-5 days. The only thing I noticed was my discharge was thicker. A year later, I (happily) gained 15 pounds, and my skin was really clear. Year 2, I lost 25 pounds and hair on my scalp. I now have a bald spot. I always had nipple/chest hair, but it was only a couple. Now, I have a ring of long, thick hair around my nipples and more than several chest hairs. I’ve given up plucking. Recently, my libido started decreasing. My discharge is so thick that I don’t self-lubricate well. I am considering stopping these. I miss growing hair in the right places, but I don’t want to go back to those periods. :("

For Birth Control "I started taking Aviane when I was 16 1/2, and I've been on it ever since. I'm now 21 and about to discontinue my use of Aviane. It caused me to be emotional almost all the time. I have very little patience, mood swings, I gained weight, it's tough to lose weight, I have constant headaches, and my acne is horrible to the point of scarring. Since I was taking this birth control through the toughest of teenage years, I just thought this was who I became. But after doing research and finding this website, I now know I'm not the only one who has suffered through taking Aviane. It did its job with preventing pregnancy, but didn't help with my heavy period and painful cramps. I'm finishing my current pack, and it'll be my last."

For Birth Control "I started taking Aviane because my old birth control made me gain a lot of weight, and my skin broke out. Aviane was great at first, it actually made me lose about 20 pounds and cleared my skin. However, it did make me extremely depressed, and I recently just got off of it after taking it for a year. For Birth Control "I started on Aviane when I was 15. It's got the job done with making sure I don't get pregnant. But all other aspects of it are completely horrible. It makes me way more irritable, I gained 30 pounds (and I'm a healthy person, I always watch what I eat and exercise). My acne is worse, I'm moody, emotional, and more sad. It literally makes me crazy. I'm a totally different person on it. I am now 24, and I am stopping it this month. I would never go on it again. But now I am at a loss of what to do because I don't want to get pregnant. I'm thinking of getting the nonhormonal copper IUD, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be welcome. But do not take this drug."

For Birth Control "After reading all these negative reviews, I suddenly don’t feel as alone. I’ve been on this birth control for 4 years, and I truly think it’s the root of my problems. On my placebo week, I feel 10x better. Then I start back up, and my stomach is terrible, I’m nauseous 24/7. I’ve definitely gained 10+ pounds, exhausted all the time. I am calling my doctor to change me this week because I can’t do it anymore. I also am a very upbeat person, and I feel as if this drug makes me have mood swings, which is unlike me, and then I get upset because I don’t know why I’m feeling so terrible. The bloating is so bad, my boobs get incredibly sore sometimes. I’ve taken pregnancy tests just because my symptoms mimicked pregnancy ones too closely. Not worth it."
