For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for about a year now, and by far, the worst side effect of it is the weight gain and breast tenderness. I haven't experienced any other negative side effects. I've gained 20 pounds in the last year, I feel frequently hungry, and more recently, bloated all the time. I've gained an entire cup size, which under any other circumstances would perhaps be nice, but I already had larger breasts for my small frame, and now they're just out of control. To go from 5'4" with large Cs to gaining 20 lbs and large Ds is just really very uncomfortable. I have unsuccessfully tried to lose the weight, but I have now decided to change my birth control entirely."

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for three months, and I can't stand it. I've had horrible mood swings and very emotional. My breasts have gotten bigger, but I had extremely bad stomach aches from it and was miserable for the first month. Plus, I've gained about 10 pounds from it."

For Birth Control "I have been taking Aviane for two months now. I have not had any weight gain, still having some pimple issues, but I hope that will clear up in the next couple of months. I feel my hormones are balanced, and I used to sweat a lot, and it has even stopped that! So happy on this pill."

For Birth Control "I've only been using Aviane for two months, but in those two months, I've seen great improvement! I switched from a different pill that caused weight gain and loss of libido. There are no libido issues with Aviane, and I'm already down a few pounds. I can take this pill continuously without any breakthrough bleeding or queasiness. It's great."

For Birth Control "I've been on this pill for about 9 months now, and I'm either switching to another pill or just getting off it in general. This pill overall isn't terrible, but I do have a few complaints. It made me gain a little bit of weight, typical. But what really bothers me is the week before I'm going to start my period, I spot for about 2 days. What also bothers me is my period is now 10 days long -_-"

For Endometriosis "I have been on this birth control for about a month and a half now. I have had some side effects within the 2nd and 3rd weeks with nausea and getting sick to my stomach after I ate, and I did get a headache here and there. I have felt slight weight gain, but nothing too noticeable, and the first few days I was a complete and total cow, but that's gone away very quickly. Otherwise, this pill is good for me. No serious side effects. I haven't had a period yet since I went on vacation and didn't want to have it because I wasn't sure what to expect, but I will have one at the end of this month. But so far, so good."

For Birth Control "Worst BC out of all three I have tried. I switched because this pill was much cheaper, now I know why. I gained over 5 pounds in only one pack (month). It gave me cystic acne, and before, my skin was clean. No babies with unprotected sex, but still, I will be switching back to my previous pill."

For Birth Control "I switched brands to Aviane. I have been taking this for three months now. The first two months were awful. My symptoms were synonymous with pregnancy symptoms, and I even had to take a pregnancy test. I had spotting, awful cramps, weight gain, breakouts, breast tenderness, morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings, and even depression. Now, things are starting to get better. I only get headaches occasionally, painful cramping, and breast tenderness. My skin has completely cleared up, much to my surprise. I am iffy about this brand of birth control. I'm going to continue for a couple more months, and if things get better, I will stay on it, and if things worsen again, I am going to switch."

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for many years. It has worked wonders for me. I had to switch to a different brand for insurance purposes, and immediately I gained 10 pounds, and my breasts were extremely sore and swollen. I NEVER had this with Aviane. I've already called my doctor, and I am switching back right away."

For Birth Control "I switched to this one after being on another pill for six months. I switched because I gained 20 pounds in 6 months. I gained 5 pounds in three months with this one, but the worst part was the absolute emotional roller coaster I was on. I was cranky beyond belief a week before my period, worse than my normal PMS. I encourage people to give it a shot anyway. You never know if it will work for you!"

For Birth Control "This will only be my second month taking this pill, so I know my body may need more time to adjust, but I just wanted to share my initial reviews. Positives: It has really cleared up my skin, and my period has been lighter. Negatives: my mood swings are extreme, I have gained weight, I get nauseous and have slight headaches, and my breasts are sore and seem to be bigger. (I was already a big cup size, so wasn't looking to have more added on.) All in all, though, I am going to give it another 2 months to see if things start to change."

For Birth Control "I've tried the following BC pills: Ortho- used to give me backaches and significant weight gain. Loesterin FE- gave me intense headaches and spotting. Alesse-wonderful! I just switched to the generic brand of Alesse, Aviane, and I hope it has the same effect as Alesse!"

"I've been on Aviane for about a month now. I haven't noticed any mood swings, but my breasts did get a little bit bigger, and I have gained weight! I'm not enjoying that part. I've been working out regularly for about two weeks now, and my diet is very healthy for the majority of the time, but I can't seem to lose that weight! I haven't noticed a change in my sex drive. I think headaches may come more frequently, and I am often tired, but I believe that part is because I need to get to bed earlier. So, besides the weight gain, Aviane is good."

For Birth Control "I began taking this birth control about 7 months ago. Upon taking it during the first month, I experienced severe nausea, headaches, and a heavy period with the worst cramps I have ever had. Each month alternates with irregular bleeding (getting my period before the placebo pill week) with cramps, which might be due to a wrong prescription. I have gained 7 pounds despite doing CrossFit 4 times a week, retaining fat around my midsection. Also, I have been moody, anxious, and have had continuous night sweats and headaches. I will be getting off of this pill ASAP after realizing that this medication is not worth the horrible side effects. I keep giving it another month to see if it will get better, but it hasn't."

For Birth Control "At the beginning, it was really bad. Awful mood swings, very agitated at absolutely everything, bleeding for 21 days straight. After 4-5 months, I did not see those mood swings anymore and had a regular cycle. Now, on it for 2 years, I noticed my cramps have been less painful. I went from fainting, vomiting, and being unable to walk to being able to take one Advil and be in slight discomfort. Although it left me with depression, I'd rather be constantly sad than experience those awful cramps. Pros: slightly better skin, regulated periods, bearable cramps, extra protection. Cons (after a year): depression, weight gain, spotting if a day was missed, more severe mood changes during periods, a bit more tired throughout the day but can still sleep fine."

For Birth Control "Aviane was the first ever birth control pill I tried, and I had a really great experience on it. I had little to no side effects, no nausea, no new breakouts, and no drastic weight gain. My periods come when expected on the placebo pills, and I would say they’re much more regulated now since I do get irregular periods from time to time (mostly discharge like old period blood). I’ve only been on it for 2 months so far, but I really do recommend this hormonal pill to anyone who is looking to try out some sort of birth control or pregnancy prevention. I had intercourse almost every day for a whole month straight, and I am not pregnant, phew! I ordered mine off of The Pill Club, and I really recommend their service as well! Stay safe, gals!"

For Birth Control "I have taken both Aviane and Falmina-both brands of levonorgestrel-estradiol 0.1-20 mg-mcg. Have had nothing but a good experience. My first month taking Aviane, I had some bleeding during the middle of my cycle, which might have been because I started it during the middle of my cycle. But since then, no spotting, periods always start 2-3 days after starting reminder pills. Very minor breast tenderness, only some months, but nothing different than I had with periods before I took Aviane. No weight gain, nausea, or anything like that. Highly recommend!"

For Birth Control "I've tried many birth control pills, but they all caused severe mood swings and depression. I like the fact that this pill seemed at first to have little to no negative effect on my mood. (I've been on it for 3 years). However, in the past year, I began having severe anxiety attacks and was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder after I began waking up in the mornings feeling faint and sick to my stomach, laying on the bathroom floor. I constantly feel exhausted, and although active, have gained 20 pounds in the past year. I also noticed an increase in my acne the past two years. I think this is because of the birth control. I am switching to the copper IUD next week and am so excited because it is hormone-free! I hope this helps."

For Birth Control "I have a hard time rating this because my feelings are mixed. I naturally have emotionally high highs and low lows when not on any birth control. On this pill, the emotions have somewhat leveled out, though not as much as they did on Yaz and maybe not enough. The real downside is a severely decreased sex drive (same response on Yaz), and it's affecting my relationship with my boyfriend. I can't attribute my breast growth, skin clearing, or weight gain to Aviane - all due to other factors. I take Aviane at night to sleep through the nausea (same on Yaz). If I miss a pill and have to take 2, it WILL make me vomit. But taking 1 pill each night as prescribed makes it manageable. I don't want to shop around, but maybe Aviane is not the pill for me."

For Birth Control "I was in Balcoltra for about a year before switching to this, as it is the generic version and much cheaper! It worked great, and I had no weight gain (even weight loss) and no acne, and very short periods. However, this birth control gave me hypertension that went away in the month after stopping this drug. If your BP is not hypersensitive to the hormones, this is a great option, but unfortunately, I couldn’t keep taking it!"

For Birth Control "I've been on Aviane for a little over a year. It works great as a birth control and is pretty inexpensive. I have gained weight, but I attribute it to the fact that I am no longer walking to school and work a sedentary office job. My periods without birth control lasted only 4 days, but now they last a little more than a week, so that's no fun. My sex drive has decreased slightly, but not too bad. Overall, I am glad I chose this product."

For Birth Control "I started taking this birth control 6 months ago. I had some initial spotting, which later turned into bleeding throughout my 3rd and 4th weeks. Every month. Every month I was bleeding for 2 weeks. I thought it would go away after the 3rd month because that's what the general consensus was on the internet, but it didn't, so I'm switching to a high-dose pill. However, other than the annoyance of having to constantly buy tampons, I had no other side effects. No acne, no moodiness, no weight gain (I actually ended up going from 117 to 111 while on the pill for those of you who might be worried about weight gain as much as I was), no breast tenderness, or any substantial change in sex drive. I wish I didn't have to switch."

For Birth Control "I've read all these reviews and I completely disagree with them. My experience with Aviane has been nothing but negative. I was on it for 2 months, I gained about 8 lbs (and I'm short, so that's a ton of weight and a whole pant size), my mood swings were out of control, and my first period on it lasted for 8 days and my second is on day 6 right now. If I wanted to have a period that lasted that long, I wouldn't have started the pill to begin with. I'm going back to Ortho Tri-Cyclen because I absolutely refuse to deal with the side effects. I mean, granted, I haven't had any cramps, but this weight gain and mood swings at the beginning of summer is a no-go for me."

"This is the only birth control I have used, but I haven't had mood swings. However, I have gained a ton of weight from it and have been eating healthy and like half of what I used to, so the weight gain will stop. I am about to switch when my year-long prescription runs out next month."

For Birth Control "I'm almost on month 3 of this birth control, and I've not had any problems with it. I haven't experienced any acne or weight gain. I'm just still trying to figure out my periods. The first month it came the day I started my first sugar pill. This month, I'm on my 2nd sugar pill and no sign of my period. However, overall I have been very satisfied with this birth control."
