For Birth Control "I've been on this birth control for about two years, and this is the only one I've ever used. I can say I've definitely gained weight, but I'm sure it had to do with many other factors as well. Sex drive decreased, and I get moody and irritable. However, nothing is extreme, and it does its job. I've noticed constant mood swings the week after my period or the first week of the pills, so I sometimes double up to avoid the dip in hormones. I guess it's good enough to the point where I don't want to trial and error any other one, so that's why I stay on it. Everyone's bodies are so different."

For Birth Control "I am 24 and have been on the pill for 3 weeks. I have experienced heavy breakthrough bleeding during week 3, with painful cramping as well. My skin has broken out substantially, and I have an increased need to sleep. Mood swings are minimal, but are nonetheless still there. I hope this is just my body adjusting, as it is my first time on the pill."

For Birth Control "After switching birth control pills, I was really happy to find this one. I experienced no nausea, headaches, and zero mood swings. My last birth control contributed to horrible emotional ups and downs, but this one seems to not even affect my emotions. So thankful to have found a pill with no noticeable side effects for me! Everyone's body chemistry is different though, so find what's right for you."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My doctor prescribed Aviane to me after I was suffering from very severe anemia caused by my ridiculously heavy and painful period. I used to bleed heavily for 10-12 days, meaning I would have to change my pad every 30 minutes or less. This is the first and only birth control pill that I have taken, and I am only taking it for anemia (but consider using it for its original purpose), and it has been a Godsend. My periods are significantly less painful, lighter, and the side effects are not nearly as awful. I have been taking the pill for about 3 1/2 years now, and other than some nausea, spotting, and discomfort for the first couple of months, it's been great. Mood swings occur, but so has breast enlargement. Fair trade in my book."

For Birth Control "Just finished my first pack after never taking birth control in the past. Very slight improvement in my acne, made my breasts a little bigger, and helped increase my sex drive. However, it did make me gain weight and get some pretty bad mood swings. I will continue to take this pill to see if these side effects wear off."

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for about 3 weeks, and the longer I've been taking it, the less I notice certain side effects. The very first week was hell. I had the worst mood swings of my life. I was contemplating switching but held on and powered through, and now I haven't experienced them! The one thing that I complain about now is that my breasts are very tender, and I've been a little bit more sleepy."

For Birth Control "So I have been on this pill for almost a month, and when I tell you it has been a nightmare. I have been having the craziest mood swings I have ever experienced in my life, so I'm going to get off this pill because I don't want to lose my relationship or job. This pill can work for people, but unfortunately, it just doesn't work well for me."

For Birth Control "I started this birth control about a month and a half ago. The first 2 weeks weren’t bad other than pretty bad nausea that would last all day! It just got worse, though. I definitely have a much larger appetite, and I crave sweets all the time. It also has severely affected my mood! I’m extremely emotional and crying for no reason or extremely irritated. Not only that, I’m also constantly bleeding! It’s not just spotting like breakthrough bleeding, it’s like I have to wear a tampon every day!!!!! It’s beyond frustrating!!! For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have not even made it a month on this medicine yet, so it may be unfair for me to comment so quickly, but I will. I switched to this from Loestrin 24 (which completely stopped my cycle for 6 months). I've been on Aviane for about 2 weeks, and I have had no weight gain - but that's the only positive so far. I have had high levels of unexplained anxiety, feel sick often, and am having huge, unpredictable mood swings. I have had 3 or 4 panic attacks since starting, which I have never experienced before - a scary feeling. My doctor has told me to give it a few months to even out."

For Birth Control "Update: I made a comment on here in November, 2 months after taking Aviane, and it was good, but now I’m on month 5 and I do not like it. I am constantly spotting and having breakthrough bleeding after my first week of active pills, and it lasts all the way 'til the first week of my next pack. I had terrible acne last month, which I never had before this pill. My moods are always changing, and I get mad super easily. I would be able to deal with it if I wasn’t constantly spotting and bleeding randomly, but I’m going to switch because it’s driving me crazy."

For Birth Control "I started taking Aviane when I was 16 1/2, and I've been on it ever since. I'm now 21 and about to discontinue my use of Aviane. It caused me to be emotional almost all the time. I have very little patience, mood swings, I gained weight, it's tough to lose weight, I have constant headaches, and my acne is horrible to the point of scarring. Since I was taking this birth control through the toughest of teenage years, I just thought this was who I became. But after doing research and finding this website, I now know I'm not the only one who has suffered through taking Aviane. It did its job with preventing pregnancy, but didn't help with my heavy period and painful cramps. I'm finishing my current pack, and it'll be my last."

I gained 12-ish pounds while taking this, and I had crazy mood swings and emotional instability. I would cry for no reason, and I was always slightly hungrier than I should be. For Birth Control "I started on Aviane when I was 15. It's got the job done with making sure I don't get pregnant. But all other aspects of it are completely horrible. It makes me way more irritable, I gained 30 pounds (and I'm a healthy person, I always watch what I eat and exercise). My acne is worse, I'm moody, emotional, and more sad. It literally makes me crazy. I'm a totally different person on it. I am now 24, and I am stopping it this month. I would never go on it again. But now I am at a loss of what to do because I don't want to get pregnant. I'm thinking of getting the nonhormonal copper IUD, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be welcome. But do not take this drug."

For Birth Control "I've been on Aviane for about 8 months, and it's the only birth control I've ever taken. Overall, it has been a positive experience. I had breakthrough bleeding the first month I was on it, but it stopped after that. I did not experience any weight gain or change in the length of my period, cramps, etc. I do get more acne on my face during my period now than I did before, though, and mood swings during week 3 can be extreme: crying for no reason, feeling anxious/overwhelmed, getting unreasonably angry and upset. After experiencing this several months in a row, I'm now often able to take a step back and say to myself, 'Okay, it's week 3, this is the pill, not you,' but it's something potential users should be prepared for."

For Birth Control "After reading all these negative reviews, I suddenly don’t feel as alone. I’ve been on this birth control for 4 years, and I truly think it’s the root of my problems. On my placebo week, I feel 10x better. Then I start back up, and my stomach is terrible, I’m nauseous 24/7. I’ve definitely gained 10+ pounds, exhausted all the time. I am calling my doctor to change me this week because I can’t do it anymore. I also am a very upbeat person, and I feel as if this drug makes me have mood swings, which is unlike me, and then I get upset because I don’t know why I’m feeling so terrible. The bloating is so bad, my boobs get incredibly sore sometimes. I’ve taken pregnancy tests just because my symptoms mimicked pregnancy ones too closely. Not worth it."

For Birth Control "Ok, so I was on the pill at an early age of 16 for PCOS syndrome till about 20 years old. I went cold turkey at 20 till 24 and decided to get back on when I got in a serious relationship. It was good the first week or three. No weight gain, larger breasts, no mood swings... up until the last week of the month. I began having SEVERE anxiety, constant ALL day nausea, and horrible mood swings. I felt so sick every day, and I even went to the hospital. I can honestly say this was the worst experience on birth control I ever had. The stomach sickness and constant hand shaking and anxiety feeling were enough for me to stop this mid-pack!"

For Birth Control "I have never felt so depressed as I am now while on this birth control. I am usually a very happy person, but these pills have turned me into an emotional, moody, and easily agitated woman. I have been on it for 5 months and decided to stop it today. In addition to my uncontrollable emotions, this pill has caused severe migraines to the point of vomiting, an increase in acne, sleep deprivation, and lack of motivation. My periods are still heavy, and I do still experience the same amount of cramping I did when I was not on any birth control. My periods are also still not regulated; some months I have skipped it completely. I am hoping that these side effects don't last after discontinuing the pill, as I've read on many other reviews."

For Birth Control "I've only been on Aviane for a month, and I absolutely hate it. I would not recommend this to anyone. I was taking Aubra before, but wanted to get out of Planned Parenthood. So I went to my family doctor, he gave me this. I have been depressed, have had bad mood swings, absolutely no sex drive, my breasts are very tender and seem larger, and I know I've gained weight. This will be my one and only month on it."

For Birth Control "I have been on this birth control for three years. I love it. Before I started Aviane, I had terrible periods where I felt like I was having the flu with an insane amount of bleeding. I couldn't live that way anymore, and my doctor suggested putting me on birth control. I was put on this pill for about 3 months, and then I saw commercials on Seasonale, where I could only get my period 4 times a year, and that seemed intriguing. After I was put on Seasonale, I had TERRIBLE mood swings, and I would cry every day. The only good thing about Seasonale was that my breasts grew a size and a half. I went back to Aviane after the other pill obviously wasn't going to work out, and I am happy with it! My periods are better and no side effects!"

For Ovarian Cysts "I have been on Aviane for 2 months now going on three. Within the first month, I've experienced headaches, depression, mood swings, severe cramping, and bloating, as well as stomach gain (which went down). All of those symptoms went away by the second month of taking this pill, which I've experienced lighter periods. I still have mood swings and get depressed at times, but I have very bad breakouts all over my face, chin, and neck, as well as black marks on my forehead. I've always had acne, but I've never experienced it this badly. I will continue to take it for the 3rd and 4th month just to see if anything gets better, and I will keep you posted."

For Birth Control "I have been taking Aviane birth control for a month now, and so far, so good. I had to switch birth controls because my last birth control caused me to have breakthrough bleeding almost every other week. It was horrible. But now I am no longer having that problem, no skin problems, no weight gain, and no mood swings. I just hope it stays this way."

For Birth Control "I've been on the pill for about 6 months, and I've had no severe issues or complaints about this birth control. I am 22, and this was my first birth control taken and prescribed by my gyno. I had no weight gain because I was more conscious of my cravings, and I didn't binge on them. It's always about perception, and if you're going to act upon all these desires to eat, clearly, you will gain a significant amount of weight. My sex drive remained the same, and I'm still very sexually aroused. One obvious side effect that was prevalent would ultimately be my mood swings. I would easily turn super sensitive or get extremely irate if my boyfriend would do something or say something that made me unhappy. Other than that, I highly recommend Aviane."
