For Birth Control "When I first started taking this pill, I broke out along my jawline due to hormone changes and my body adjusting to it. After 2 months, my acne improved, but the downside was that I got very bad mood swings. It wasn't until I stopped taking the pill that I realized how depressed and short-tempered I had become. With that being said, it helps with clearing acne but gives you bad mood swings."

For Birth Control "I wanted to try a new birth control because I was having acne issues with my old BC. The very first time I started using Aviane, I noticed some side effects right away. When I would start a new pack, I would have several mood swings and felt very sick. I had to call off work for the first 3 months (the first 1 or 2 days of each month) when starting a new pack because of the sickness it was causing me. I pushed through because Aviane was eliminating my acne, and I figured the side effects would go away eventually. I've been taking Aviane for almost a year. I don't get sick anymore, but I still get mood swings and headaches. I wanted to read reviews because I wasn't sure if my depression was caused by the BC or something else. I don't usually get really down and think negatively, so I really do think it may be the birth control. My negative thoughts are becoming too much, I get sad sometimes, and I just want it to stop. I will be switching to a different BC!"

For Birth Control "Started when I was 22, now almost 25. When I first started, I would bleed lightly for about a month. After a while, cramps weren't so bad. I'd have a few lighter ones the week before my period and during and after. Not like the extreme ones I had before where I wanted to die. Definitely worked in preventing pregnancy, even without using condoms unless it's the week of placebo pills. I used to be very small, a size 0 (24 inch) pants, I was probably a size 1 or 3 when I started the pill. Now I'm a size 10 (30 inch) pants, or bigger. I can't fit into any jeans. I've questioned whether I'm pregnant multiple times because of the weight, but I've taken tests that came out negative. Three months in a row I didn't get my period. Emotional, bad mood swings."

For Birth Control "Been on this pill for about a year now and have to say not too bad. Was switched to this from Lutera from the pharmacy, not continuing Lutera. No acne or weight gain problems, but did see a change in mood. Almost like my temper was more short-fused and I got angry more easily. Period is regular for the most part, but sometimes I have bleeding while on active pills, and it lasts forever. Also, before getting on birth control, I rarely had cramps. Now I get them with every period, and they’re really uncomfortable. I’m sexually active, so that’s why I continue to take the pill, and no scares thus far."

For Birth Control "I switched brands to Aviane. I have been taking this for three months now. The first two months were awful. My symptoms were synonymous with pregnancy symptoms, and I even had to take a pregnancy test. I had spotting, awful cramps, weight gain, breakouts, breast tenderness, morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings, and even depression. Now, things are starting to get better. I only get headaches occasionally, painful cramping, and breast tenderness. My skin has completely cleared up, much to my surprise. I am iffy about this brand of birth control. I'm going to continue for a couple more months, and if things get better, I will stay on it, and if things worsen again, I am going to switch."

"I switched from Junel Fe to Aviane because Junel made me break out. While my skin was flawless on Aviane for the four days I took it, I had severe mood swings. I would wake up angry and nauseous and cry almost three times a day for no reason at all. I had the same reaction to Plan B, and the progestin used in that is the same in Aviane. After four days on this medicine, I switched back to Junel, and I've been happy ever since! Lesson: don't switch birth control if acne is your only complaint. Stay with the medicine you have the least amount of side effects with."

For Birth Control "I have been on this birth control for over a year now, and it is not working for me. I have no sex drive anymore. On top of that, I have very bad mood swings. It makes me a complete cow, and I lose my temper very easily. This medication did not work for me."

For Birth Control "When I first started Aviane, I was so bloated, and the nausea was terrible. I thought I was pregnant, but I wasn't. I'm on month 6 now, and I don't feel any nauseousness, and I don't get bloated anymore. However, my mood swings have been terrible! I would get so angry, and I would sob at any cute animal on the internet. One side effect I can't ignore is the hunger. I will eat and eat and eat, and I've gained about 5 pounds. It's like I'm never full. But it's good that I gained weight because before taking the pill, I had no appetite and was slightly underweight. I appear healthier now. I feel a little more sane now, so I'm hoping that the emotional side effect will go away eventually. I also experienced some spotting when taking the pill continuously, skipping the placebos (but that's completely normal). I also had an increase in acne, but that went away quickly. I really do like this pill."

For Birth Control "Okay, so I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo before I started Aviane, and I had awful hormonal cystic acne along my jawline. I switched to Aviane in an attempt to control my acne. Within three days, I saw a major improvement. My skin is almost clear, and it has been a week. However, my mood swings are awful. I'm extremely angry, my boyfriend is putting up with a monster. On top of being miserable, my sex drive has completely tanked. Definitely didn't work for me at all. I hate to get off of it because my face is so clear, but I really can't take the anger anymore."

"I just started using Aviane about 2 weeks ago. I noticed that my breasts feel a bit heavier (which may be a good thing for a small girl like me), but I do notice that I am slightly aggravated at very minor things (mood swings). Slight cramping here and there, but nothing too bad. I also feel a bit bloated during the evening, and my appetite has changed. However, this could all be in my head because no one else has noticed any physical changes. So I guess, so far so good."

For Birth Control "I switched to this one after being on another pill for six months. I switched because I gained 20 pounds in 6 months. I gained 5 pounds in three months with this one, but the worst part was the absolute emotional roller coaster I was on. I was cranky beyond belief a week before my period, worse than my normal PMS. I encourage people to give it a shot anyway. You never know if it will work for you!"

For Birth Control "My breasts hurt. I get mood swings, headaches, a lot of nausea, which in a way is good because I lost a few lbs instead of gaining weight. However, it gave me depression. On the other side, periods are great, very light, and no cramps or anything. I tried NuvaRing once, and I had this horrible discharge, so I stopped using it. I've been on Alesse in the past, but insurance doesn't cover it. My main reason to take birth control is to prevent ovarian cysts. I hope it works because they are very painful. I think I'm going to keep using it for another month, see what happens."

For Birth Control "This will only be my second month taking this pill, so I know my body may need more time to adjust, but I just wanted to share my initial reviews. Positives: It has really cleared up my skin, and my period has been lighter. Negatives: my mood swings are extreme, I have gained weight, I get nauseous and have slight headaches, and my breasts are sore and seem to be bigger. (I was already a big cup size, so wasn't looking to have more added on.) All in all, though, I am going to give it another 2 months to see if things start to change."

For Birth Control "I have a bad habit of getting on and off birth control due to relationship status because I hate taking it. I finally found one that I like, Aviane. After feeling really emotional the first few weeks (the only reason I didn't give it 10 out of 10), I've totally mellowed. No weight gain at all, and after my third round of full packs, I had no cramping before my period, which is unheard of."

For Birth Control "I've started this pill 3 weeks ago, and I've had a headache the first three days, and at the end of the first week, I had really bad cramps that I never had before. It lasted an hour. I did have some mood swings where I would just break into tears, but after that first week, I haven't had any pains or mood swings. My skin did change, and I am breaking out, but it doesn't really bother me. I've always had bad skin. This is the first time I have been on any sort of birth control, and so far so good. I just got my period, so I'm not pregnant. I take it first thing in the morning with water and never got nausea. Oh, and my weight hasn't changed. Yay!"

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for 2 and a half weeks and have been extremely emotional, had breakthrough bleeding for almost a week now, and have bad cramps and bloating. I have seen most people say that it gets better after the first few months, so I'm crossing my fingers."

For Birth Control "I just started this pill last week. (My sister started Loestrin last week, and she's been spotting ever since.) I like the pill a lot because I have not experienced any side effects at all, until my fiancée talked to me tonight about my mood swings. We always get along, and this week I have been angry, and I am not as patient of a person. He alluded this to my birth control, and now that I've been thinking about it, he is totally right. I am going to give it a few more weeks but might have to switch. Along with these anger issues, I also have absolutely no sex drive, but otherwise, this is a great birth control pill."

For Birth Control "I've been on Aviane for over a year now, and overall I like it. I started it to get rid of my acne, I had acne on my face, chest, and back. Aviane cleared up some of my back, and my chest is completely clear, but it did not affect my face. On the plus side, I did not gain weight, but I do experience a lot of mood swings. I've noticed it is MUCH easier to cry or get upset now. A couple of months ago, I started using it to prevent pregnancy as well, and for that, I haven't had any problems."

For Birth Control "I was prescribed Aviane and tried it for the first time for about a year. My mood changes crept up on me, and before I knew it, I wasn't me and had lost every desire to live! I felt depressed and always full of loathing. So full of just plain loathing for everything, for absolutely no reason. I was plain and simply put, not in the mood for life anymore! After changing to an IUD, I waited over 6 months to see if my mood and depression changed. And it did! I am me again and not depressed! Also, this pill caused me to, for the 1st time in my life, to have a sun mustache! Google it. Darkening of skin can be an actual side effect with this one! My period got incredibly light and short, more like light spotting at most! I didn't mind that so much, but it did have me worried about being pregnant at times. I had clear skin while on it but got the absolute worst post-pill acne I've ever gotten after stopping any pill! I didn't get pregnant, so that's a plus! Overall not happy, wouldn't recommend."

For Birth Control "I'm on my 2nd week of taking Aviane, and so far I've been dealing with insanely annoying mood swings. I have been extremely emotional, and it made my period last longer than it normally does. Also, I got dizzy after my 3rd day on the pill and occasionally get a bit off balance. I'm going to try and stick it out for a few months, but after that, if I'm still like this, I'm going to see if I could switch medicines."

For Birth Control "At the beginning, it was really bad. Awful mood swings, very agitated at absolutely everything, bleeding for 21 days straight. After 4-5 months, I did not see those mood swings anymore and had a regular cycle. Now, on it for 2 years, I noticed my cramps have been less painful. I went from fainting, vomiting, and being unable to walk to being able to take one Advil and be in slight discomfort. Although it left me with depression, I'd rather be constantly sad than experience those awful cramps. Pros: slightly better skin, regulated periods, bearable cramps, extra protection. Cons (after a year): depression, weight gain, spotting if a day was missed, more severe mood changes during periods, a bit more tired throughout the day but can still sleep fine."

For Birth Control "So far, I've noticed hair loss, which my doctor told me will eventually go away, headaches only in the morning and before bedtime, mood swings. I'm normally very confident, but I've been depressed, and my skin has been so itchy I can't stand it. Been on for almost 3 months now, itching is increasingly getting worse for me."

For Birth Control "I was on Yaz for 2 years, and that was the worst. I changed to Aviane 3 months ago, and I love it. The first month, I was spotting a bit, but after that, my period has been good. It comes on time and is very short and light, and it only costs me $5 from the pharmacy. I do get pretty emotional during my period, but nothing life-altering. It's really great."
