For Birth Control "This pill is the worst one I've taken; I've never been on such a problematic birth control like this before, and it's causing so much stress in my daily life. I switched from Reclipsen because it gave me a migraine every day. On the bright side, this pill hasn't given me any. Unfortunately, what it has given me is terrible acne, depression, day-long lasting nausea, and the day before my period, I had horrible pains in my right side from my belly button to the bottom of my pubic bone that I nearly went into the ER. It was so debilitating that I couldn't move a muscle. Now, upon my self-examination, I've discovered a lump and have nipple discharge. I'm not entirely sure if the birth control is the direct link, but my doctors and I will see."

For Birth Control "I have been taking birth control pills for over 10 years and never experienced a single negative side (other than bloating) until taking Ethinyl Estradiol & Levonorgestrel, also known as Aviane. It led to near-constant nausea and severe adult acne. A warning to women everywhere: STAY AWAY. Ethinyl Estradiol & Levonorgestrel, AKA Aviane, also goes by the following brand names: Alesse, Altavera, Amethyst, Enpresse, Lessina, Levlen, Levora, Lutera, Lybrel, Nordette, Orsythia, Portia, Sronyx, Tri-Levlen, Triphasil-21, Triphasil-28, Trivora-28."

For Birth Control "Oh boy... just under 2 weeks ago, I switched to Aviane from Loloestrin. I loved Lolo, it gave me no problems, but I had to switch because of insurance problems. Ever since starting Aviane, I have been SUPER moody... the smallest things are making me cry, and little remarks that would otherwise not bother me get me FURIOUS. I’m breaking out and have uncontrollable hunger. And if I don’t eat, I get even more angry!! I can’t win. Only gave it some stars because my sex drive actually increased, I had none before."

For Birth Control "Worst BC out of all three I have tried. I switched because this pill was much cheaper, now I know why. I gained over 5 pounds in only one pack (month). It gave me cystic acne, and before, my skin was clean. No babies with unprotected sex, but still, I will be switching back to my previous pill."

For Birth Control "I switched brands to Aviane. I have been taking this for three months now. The first two months were awful. My symptoms were synonymous with pregnancy symptoms, and I even had to take a pregnancy test. I had spotting, awful cramps, weight gain, breakouts, breast tenderness, morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings, and even depression. Now, things are starting to get better. I only get headaches occasionally, painful cramping, and breast tenderness. My skin has completely cleared up, much to my surprise. I am iffy about this brand of birth control. I'm going to continue for a couple more months, and if things get better, I will stay on it, and if things worsen again, I am going to switch."

"I switched from Junel Fe to Aviane because Junel made me break out. While my skin was flawless on Aviane for the four days I took it, I had severe mood swings. I would wake up angry and nauseous and cry almost three times a day for no reason at all. I had the same reaction to Plan B, and the progestin used in that is the same in Aviane. After four days on this medicine, I switched back to Junel, and I've been happy ever since! Lesson: don't switch birth control if acne is your only complaint. Stay with the medicine you have the least amount of side effects with."

For Birth Control "When I first started Aviane, I was so bloated, and the nausea was terrible. I thought I was pregnant, but I wasn't. I'm on month 6 now, and I don't feel any nauseousness, and I don't get bloated anymore. However, my mood swings have been terrible! I would get so angry, and I would sob at any cute animal on the internet. One side effect I can't ignore is the hunger. I will eat and eat and eat, and I've gained about 5 pounds. It's like I'm never full. But it's good that I gained weight because before taking the pill, I had no appetite and was slightly underweight. I appear healthier now. I feel a little more sane now, so I'm hoping that the emotional side effect will go away eventually. I also experienced some spotting when taking the pill continuously, skipping the placebos (but that's completely normal). I also had an increase in acne, but that went away quickly. I really do like this pill."

For Birth Control "I've been on this birth control for 8 months. It would work perfectly for me if it weren't for the acne. I have no mood swings, my period is normal (can be crampy for the first day, but nothing too crazy), my sex drive is normal (definitely increased compared to Yaz!), and I have been able to lose weight on it. However, it has not helped my acne at all. I think it actually makes it worse. I think I will be switching soon for that reason. I should also mention if I don't take it within an hour or two every day, it totally messes up my period and I will get my period at the most random times, even when I was not on the placebo week. I remember when I first started it, I got my period every other week (lasting 4-5 days each time), but that went away."

For Birth Control "Was fine for about a year taking it. After that, I was experiencing aura migraines, horrible painful cramps landing me in the ER. And horrible skin. Before going on it, I had some pimples here and there, but it was out of control with cystic pimples. Went off of it, and my skin improved within a month. Rare to get a migraine. Much happier to be off of it!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am on BC for abnormal period bleeding. I switched from Lutera to Aviane and now have terrible acne. When I have my off week, everything clears up. Afterwards, I'm back to 3 more weeks of painful acne."

For Birth Control "I have been on this birth control for 2 weeks now. Only dislike is I have gotten a few pimples, and my period was like 9 days long. But it hasn't made me feel sick or had any other side effect I was worried about. I guess so far, so good. We shall see how the next period goes."

For Birth Control "Now on Aviane for almost 2 months, I'm somewhat happy. My periods once again follow a schedule and have become lighter. I don't notice any difference in cramping or bloating from before (I usually experience those on the first day and still do). I'm occasionally nauseous in the mornings. The worst side effect for me is acne. I had pretty normal skin before-dry with one or two breakouts a month-now I'm oily. And no matter how diligent I am about skincare, I wake up every morning with at least 3 or 4 (and often more) new whiteheads. I'm getting frustrated, but trying to give my body another month to regulate. I'd hate to chance switching to something else that's worse, but if this acne doesn't subside, I'm going back to my doctor."

For Birth Control "After being reluctant for a long time, I finally decided to get on birth control. I am almost done with my 5th pill pack now. Overall, I feel like I am actually net calmer throughout the cycle, as I used to get very moody right before my period, and now that doesn't happen anymore. My periods went from 7 to 4 days and are very light. Sex drive has remained the same, possibly even increased slightly. No weight gain. Only possible effect could be a tiny bit of acne, but more like an extra tiny pimple rather than a whole breakout. I take the pill at night, which I heard helps minimize side effects. I would definitely recommend."

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for 5 months now. The first few months were great, no side effects. Maybe I was slightly moody right before getting my period during the first month of starting the pill, but that's pretty much it. I experienced minimal spotting the 2nd month. However, I am now switching to Yaz because this month I missed taking the pill by 1 hour, only 1 hour, and it caused me to have spotting, then resulted in getting my period while still taking active pills. I was concerned, so I think the dose may be too light for me. But I definitely recommend giving it a try, it may work for you. No weight gain, no mood swings, improved but didn't get rid of acne, but this can also be related to the fact that the dose was too low for me."

For Birth Control "I just started taking these pills about a month ago, I'm about to start my second pack. The only side effects I've had are slight nausea the first week I started taking them. My breasts are swollen, I still break out, and have had a lot of spotting initially, but now I don't. I don't have any mood swings. I feel sleepy even though I sleep plenty. That's about it."

For Birth Control "I've started this pill 3 weeks ago, and I've had a headache the first three days, and at the end of the first week, I had really bad cramps that I never had before. It lasted an hour. I did have some mood swings where I would just break into tears, but after that first week, I haven't had any pains or mood swings. My skin did change, and I am breaking out, but it doesn't really bother me. I've always had bad skin. This is the first time I have been on any sort of birth control, and so far so good. I just got my period, so I'm not pregnant. I take it first thing in the morning with water and never got nausea. Oh, and my weight hasn't changed. Yay!"

For Birth Control "I had to switch from Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo to Aviane about 5 months ago. Although everyone’s body processes things differently, I do have to say my hormonal acne is horrible and my sex drive is eh. My moods have also been horrible, one second I’m fine, the next I’m seeing red."

For Birth Control "I switched from BeYaz (which was horrible, FYI) to Aviane due to insurance issues. I've had no problems with Aviane aside from some breakouts, but now my skin is clear even going into my period. I have back pain before and during my period, and Aviane didn't help, but it's not that big of a deal. I don't feel as hormonal, and with no insurance, my prescription is only $4 at the pharmacy."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Started taking Aviane to regulate my periods. I was basically having two (8-10 day) heavy periods a month. It was ridiculously and a bit embarrassing telling my husband not yet all the time. So the side effects: nausea, acne, acne, acne, sex drive skyrocketed, really bad cramps, bloated, anxiety, and depression. I was not pleased by this birth control, so I called my doctor after my first pack and switched me to Blisorvi age 1/20. Everyone’s body responds differently though."

For Birth Control "Aviane is effective at preventing pregnancy. However, the side effects made the pill intolerable for me. As with all birth control, my physician recommended I give the pill a few months to work. I gave it five months, much to no avail. I’ve had extreme moodiness, acne breakouts consistently (jawline), worsened eczema, fatigue, and morning nausea. I am in the process of switching to another birth control at the moment."

For Birth Control "Took Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO for 3 years, and at the same time I started it, I became engaged. Went from semi-normal emotionally to severely psychotic-depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide, etc. I chalked it up to marriage jitters. I suffered for about a year after that before I read something about birth control causing mental problems, so I stopped the pill altogether. A month later, I started Aviane because I was paranoid I'd get pregnant. Miraculously, the bad thoughts and depression/anxiety disappeared within 2 months. The downside is my skin is horrible since I started this pill. I had flawless skin on Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO, but I will take zits over anything. If you struggle with depression, I'd give this pill a try."

For Birth Control "The first week of taking the pill was terrible, my period lasted for like 9 days, my breasts were extremely tender, and I was breaking out. The first 2 months were bad because I was spotting, my breasts were continuously tender, and I would break out. The pill was basically giving me the same side effects that I get when I’m about to get my period, but constantly. Also, I remember on the 2nd week of being on the pill, right after sex, I would get the worst cramps that would last for 2 minutes. I never had this happen previously, but the next week, those stopped. After 3 months, things were normal, but a little while after that, I’ve started to get migraines from time to time. Now I’ve been taking it for 5 months. No more spotting or strange cramps after sex, but only migraines from time to time and tender breasts once in a blue moon. Also, a little breakouts."

For Birth Control "I started this pill three months ago, and I absolutely hate it! Before starting this pill, I had no problems with acne at all, but for some reason, this pill made me break out all the time, and I couldn't control it at all. Another problem I had was my mood. I was hormonal with even simple things, and I just wanted to cry all the time. On the plus side, I didn't gain any weight, and well, I didn't get pregnant, so it works."

For Birth Control "I’ve been taking this birth control for almost a year, and I really enjoyed it. In the past few months, my periods have become somewhat irregular, though. In the third month of taking this pill, my acne was terrible, but it subsided after that. My doctor just switched me to Aubra, though, she said it is exactly like Aviane, so hopefully everything works out."

For Birth Control "Aviane was the first ever birth control pill I tried, and I had a really great experience on it. I had little to no side effects, no nausea, no new breakouts, and no drastic weight gain. My periods come when expected on the placebo pills, and I would say they’re much more regulated now since I do get irregular periods from time to time (mostly discharge like old period blood). I’ve only been on it for 2 months so far, but I really do recommend this hormonal pill to anyone who is looking to try out some sort of birth control or pregnancy prevention. I had intercourse almost every day for a whole month straight, and I am not pregnant, phew! I ordered mine off of The Pill Club, and I really recommend their service as well! Stay safe, gals!"
