Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "So I just switched from the Pill to the ring (I was on the Pill for three years and needed something more convenient. At first, I loved it because all I had to do was slip it in and forget for three weeks. Two weeks into it, however, I have begun breaking out all over my body (I NEVER break out, EVER), and my forehead is littered with pimples. I've gotten moody, sore, and I'm nauseous beyond belief. After reading about others' experiences, I'm starting to get that it's a common thing. I'm switching back to the Pill. This isn't worth the convenience. Plus, it's two times the cost of what I was paying for the Pill."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I have been on the NuvaRing (NR) for about 6 months. Although it is extremely convenient, I have had the worst mood swings EVER. The mood swings overpower the convenience of the NR for me. I have also gained about 10-15 pounds, which is not normal for me at all (20 years old), low to really no sex drive, headaches, nausea. I know side effects are different for everyone, but I wanted to let someone else know my problems before they have to deal with them."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I got EluRyng as a substitute for my usual NuvaRing because my pharmacy didn’t have any name-brand. Honestly, so much worse than NuvaRing. I thought they would be somewhat comparable, but EluRyng gave me acne, I was always feeling nauseous, got really bad mood swings, and always had to take it out during sex. Instead of being flexible like NuvaRing, this ring is hard and hurts a lot during sex! I do not recommend unless this is your last resort. Other than the side effects, though, it seems to be as effective as the NuvaRing."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I started NuvaRing on 5/15/2016 and took it out 5/28/2016. I am 38 and have 3 children. I felt so depressed, emotional, and aggravated for the past week. I am extremely tired, have a headache, and just feel off. I'm nauseous and hungry at the same time. I don't know if it's in my head or if my body needs to adjust, but I am scared of going forward or symptoms worsening. What really made me nervous was my eyes felt like I had a fog over them, I took it out and flushed it down the toilet. 30 minutes later, my eyes were clear again. Maybe I was being paranoid, I don't know, but that wasn't for me. I'm getting my tubes tied."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I am a nurse and am confident I’ve never had depression during my life. On the contraceptive pill post having my kids, I had the 'black dog' within a month and immediately ceased it when I realized the link and felt better within days. Fast forward two years, and I’d say the ring has done the same thing, but also the levels of irritation I’ve felt have also felt heightened to anything I’ve experienced. I just took it out as I’ve had a difficult weekend and really do think this is the link. I’m 43 and have not felt like this before. It does 'its job,' but you need to look at what is happening to you carefully. Nil sex drive is also a thing for me that I think now may be linked. Definitely nausea that comes and goes and headaches. I’ve never been a person who uses Panadol, etc., and suddenly I’m needing it for headaches. I’m very hopeful I’ll feel better as this is all out of character for me."

For Birth Control "I was on the name brand NuvaRing for over a year. The only issue I had was that I gained a lot of weight without doing anything different with my diet. But this was my only side effect. I put up with this issue because everything else about it was so awesome! I will always recommend the name brand NuvaRing. However, I was recently switched to the generic version due to insurance reasons. THIS IS THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME!! My acne is bad, my period is bad, I’m constantly nauseous, I've gained more weight, and my hair is falling out. These past few months have been terrible. I’m looking for a different method of birth control due to this. Do not recommend."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I started using NuvaRing a month ago. I'm normally very dull when it comes to sex since giving birth to my son. NuvaRing changed that. I'm always wanting sex now, my husband loves it. No breakouts, and we don't feel it during sex, and I can just live a regular life. I don't see any weight gain, but I believe it's too early to know. My only side effect I dislike is the nausea."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "After reading these comments, I feel justified. I’ve been feeling the absolute worst for the last 2 months without any obvious cause. I’ve spoken to my doctor about this mystery illness, gotten bloodwork done, all to no avail. After my insurance switched me to EluRyng from NuvaRing 2 months ago without telling me, I have literally wondered why I feel so bad. I have had a constant-and I do mean constant-headache every single day. I’ve had bouts of nausea and vomiting. I’ve lost 5 lbs this month. I’ve never been so fatigued in my life. My anxiety, which has been under control, has been off the charts, and I’m snapping at people for no reason. I’ve had absolutely no sex drive, which is unusual. And we hate to say it-but we shouldn’t-suicidal thoughts. This is the worst “medication” out there. And I really hope you read this BEFORE you also experience these symptoms and find yourself on Google because you think you’re wondering how to keep living."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I was using NuvaRing for approximately a year when I was switched to EluRyng. I thought nothing of it, as generics are usually the same product with different labeling. A month later, I thought I was pregnant. I could not find the energy to do daily tasks, and my controlled depression became difficult to handle again. My breasts felt sore, I felt nauseous, and I got headaches easier than usual. And my period was way off. Two at-home pregnancy tests came back negative. But all of these symptoms weren't leaving, and I now have full-blown migraines every other day. Then I realized the only thing in my routine that changed is EluRyng. I started researching and found that all of my symptoms are side effects of EluRyng. I will be discussing this with my physician. This product gets a 1/10 for me because I didn't get pregnant, but with all the symptoms I experienced, I may as well have been."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "After being on the pill for 7 years, I switched to NuvaRing in January. I did not have any issues with headaches, feeling nauseous, or differences in my appetite. However, after the first month or so, my sex drive was completely gone. Every time my boyfriend and I would try to have sex, it would be very painful, or I would get no pleasure from it. I just switched back to the pill but really wish that NuvaRing would have worked out for me because otherwise I totally love how easy it was to use every month."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I have been on Nuvaring for 10+ years. Never any issues. I was switched to the generic (EluRyng), and I have had nothing but issues. Bloating is my #1 complaint but also constipation, mood swings, nausea. At one point, I thought I was pregnant. I will pay full price for Nuvaring if that's what it comes down to. My body can't handle EluRyng!!"

For Birth Control "I’ve been using NuvaRing for many, many years. I tried the pills and shots first, and this was by far the best option for me. I was recently switched to generic - and am glad I’m not the only one experiencing bad things with this switch. First, I lost the ring. Literally lost it. Gone. And have no idea where it went - which is the first time this has ever happened to me. Each time I put a new ring in, the next day I’m super nauseous. I had to call off work the first time. I’m bloating like crazy, and didn’t have a period on my “off” week for the first time. Don’t try this if you don’t have to. Not worth the switch."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I used to use NuvaRing years ago and never had an issue with it. I loved that I didn't have to take a daily pill. Unlike other birth control, NuvaRing didn't make me nauseous or break out. I recently started using it again after about a 4-year break. Huge mistake. I have been on it for 2 months, and I had to take it out. I am normally just a happy person in general, I became so short-tempered and irritable. My fiancé saw me so emotional and anxious. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my head and would snap at my son and fiancé over nothing. I gained 5 lbs in less than 2 months, am always hungry and super tired. I also started getting short of breath and had leg cramps that were absolutely crippling. I would wake up screaming from the cramps, and the next day my calves would feel bruised. I don't know if it's changed since I last used it, but I can't handle it. The effects were noticeable after just 2 days, so if you notice anything abnormal after you start taking it, don't ignore it."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "Honestly, I feel like I got lucky. Maybe it has something to do with me having no prior experience with the NuvaRing. This is my first birth control method, and I'm using the generic. So far, I have only experienced some mild nausea and mood swings, both of which are tolerable. After the first month, my period came in right when I expected it, and there was no spotting at all before the period whatsoever. I can't be too mad, granted it cost me nothing, and it works. But I'm sorry to hear about other women's negative experiences with the NR generic."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I have always used Natural Family Planning until my husband and I started working at the same hospital, and our hours made it impossible to keep track of everything like we had previously. I decided I'd try the lowest dose of birth control, which is the NuvaRing. I had it in for less than one week because I became extremely depressed, had crying spells, was constipated, and felt nauseated. All of this mattered, but I felt like my body needed to adjust to this... until, after sex, I was bleeding, and the left side of my vagina was very painful."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I began NuvaRing in July, and OMG, I wish I hadn't. I've been depressed ever since I started, nausea every once in a while, but literally crying my eyes out every single day. I've thought to seek help, I've never experienced depression this bad or these thoughts before. I thought I was just unhappy, and I don't know what told me to check these reviews, but I'm glad I did, and I can't relate more. Took out my NuvaRing last night, I'm done."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I had NuvaRing inserted for maybe 48 hours when I started noticing some extra side effects my doctor did NOT tell me about. I was only told my sex drive would be lower and I might gain weight, which I was okay with. But I woke up one morning feeling extremely nauseous, which isn’t new, but it usually goes away after a half hour of being up. Not this time. I couldn’t leave my bed because my stomach cramps were so awful, I couldn’t hold anything down, not water, crackers, broth. I had two awful anxiety attacks, thank goodness my roommate was home because if you know anything about anxiety attacks, you know how scary they can be. I finally realized after 11 pm that day, “OH maybe it’s the NuvaRing!” I took that thing out so fast, and less than two hours later, the cramping, vomiting, and extreme anxiety attacks stopped. Obviously, birth control affects women in different ways, but after that awful experience, I would never look back to the ring again."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I have been on many different pills, two different IUDs, the Depo shot, and then the ring. The ring, by far, was the worst. I had side effects with all forms of birth control, usually to do with unusual bleeding or inconsistent periods. The NuvaRing was the only birth control I could find that controlled my periods. Unfortunately, it also caused acne, weight gain, despite feeling nauseous all the time and having no appetite. No sex drive, and I was so anxious and emotional that I thought I was going crazy. I was on the ring for almost two years, with all of these side effects, which I did not realize were being caused by it. When I finally realized this may be why this is happening, I took it out, and I feel so much better now."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "This is my first time ever being on birth control, and so far I'm loving this NuvaRing. I've lost 5 pounds in 3 weeks. No acne, the only side effect is that I can't keep anything down. All I want to eat is fruits and salads. My doctor said it was normal and that maybe this will help with the anxiety I had before. But everybody is different, let's keep that in mind."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I literally just started NuvaRing 24 hours ago, and I'm already having morning sickness, a slight headache, and vomiting violently. I told my husband, but guys don't understand. I have to take it out. I'm not going to put my body through months of discomfort. It is not worth it, we have been doing well with the natural birth control method. Ladies, listen to your bodies."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I have used a lot of different birth controls in my 23 years of life, and I was on NuvaRing on and off the longest, and I loved it. I had no problems except my libido was a bit less, but I had extremely bad periods before it and would be out of school or work that whole week. Other birth controls make me feel like I have morning sickness, but this EluRyng has been the worst. I had it in for less than 24 hours, and I have never felt so sick in my life. It woke me up, I felt like I was either going to poop myself or vomit all over the bathroom. As soon as I took it out, I started feeling better. Never using that again."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I was taking the pill since I was 16 years old and didn't notice any problems until I was 22. I broke up with my boyfriend back then, and I went off the pill. Until then, I always thought that I was just naturally a sad, anxious, irritable person. But it was not true, the pill made me that way. After I went off, I became a happier person, and the smallest things would make me smile. I started a new relationship now. I'm 25. I didn't want to go on the pill again, so I opted for NuvaRing, and oh boy, it was hell on Earth! It was like the pill, but 10 times worse. I would wake up crying before I had any thought that could make me sad. I had no energy or appetite. I felt nauseated, and the worst part was the migraines. I have never had so many frequent migraines before. I don't know if everybody will have the same experience as me, but be mindful of the changes in your body and mind while on it."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "I started using NR because oral contraceptives made me extremely nauseous, so my Dr. suggested skipping the GI tract altogether. I'm on birth control and also take metformin to help manage the symptoms of my PCOS. I had chronic sharp pains in my abdomen for years, and the NR has been the first thing to help. I can't explain how thankful I am to not feel like I'm being stabbed from the inside every day. That being said, NR has given me extreme mood swings and depression and also very low libido. I find myself not being able to feel any emotion but anger. I took the ring out because I would rather deal with the physical pain than the psychological pain. Back to the drawing board for me."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "Birth control pills make me extremely nauseous, and the shot made me gain a ton of weight and caused bad acne, so the only method I can use consistently is the NuvaRing. It keeps my skin clear, is easy to use, doesn't bother my husband during sex, and it grew my breasts a cup size. Unfortunately, NuvaRing makes me so tired that I gained weight due to inactivity since all I want to do is sleep. I suspect it has caused anxiety and depression (although I can't be sure), and it gives me a terrible headache and nausea the first three days I put a new ring in. It dulls my sex drive a bit, but nothing major. I will probably stick with this method for a while unless something better comes around."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel for Birth Control "Don't let the internet scare you. Obviously, most people who write reviews are unhappy with the medication. Happy people are so much less likely to take time to write. I've been doing really well with the NuvaRing. I am so happy to not take a pill every day, and I don't have to worry about pregnancy. At the beginning, I had some nausea and dizziness, this lasted about 2 days. Other than that, pretty much smooth sailing. I'm in the second month now and have experienced some breakthrough bleeding on and off, but that's to be expected, and it's more annoying than it is actually troubling. No weight gain, actually, I have lost about 2 pounds, not sure if there is any relation there. For the most part, I forget I have it in."
